Can you explain what pool jumping is?
Is it when someone sees a pool has good luck with finding blocks so they jump to that pool hoping the luck continues?
Thanks in advance for any explanations.
That is the simplest explanation. they leave when the luck is bad and come back when the think it is going to be good. I'm sure that there are more complicated ways of calculating when to stay and go. In the end, they are trying to maximize gains by playing the system. I doubt that what the get is all that worthwhile. but they probably think it is. Like how gamblers always talk about their big wins and forget about their losses.

Like how gamblers always talk about their big wins and forget about their losses. sometimes people jump on a craps table when a roller get hot and want to join the ride.. or the other way like walking past a roulette wheel that shows it landed black 19 of the last 20 spins so you stop and bet red the next 10 thinking that it has to be red more than black now... two ways of thinking

You see, now we have seven blocks in one day. It's all good. Pool hop if you want, but you will only maximize your profits by luck alone. Hanging in any single pool gives you predictability.
Not true. There's plenty of information about how to maximise income by hopping proportional and scored proportional pools. Got a link? How can you predict luck?

The only way I know of is using Raulo's attack and AFAIK all notable pools i.e. anything that comes up looking like your not solo mining, have instituted some form of protection against it.

Got a link? How can you predict luck? You don't. You can calculate 'when to leave a pool' and not loose much, but there should be another pool you can jump to, which is the guessing part, that makes it not worth it IMHO.

I personally don't care who comes and goes. The only one who does likely is the pool itself since it works off a flat percentage whereas all our percentages vary with the size of the pool.

Can I adjust somehow the difficulty that I get? I thought that you could do it from the workers edit, but there is nothing there.

I'm not sure what you mean by adjust the difficulty. That is determined by the bitcoin network. If you mean adjust the amount of work you get, just power down your rig for part of the day.

Hmm, I'm not sure Organofcorti was thinking such a simple solution and I for one would like to know more...

Yes, slush's pool is currently finding approximately 35 blocks per week or 5 a day so 8 hours is not unusual (although disliked by many). To mine here you have to take the long blocks with the short...

No. VarDiff will in time will optimize your difficulty for your miners to maximize your submitted shares and minimize stales. Some pools have no ability to do this and you have to work it out manually. Some allow you to set minimums. Slush does it automatically. Sit back and relax and let the pool do it's magic. Hoppers check your stats, I see a strong "move along" signal.
