I think that Theymos is pretty smart, and he thinks about these features before he implements them. The merit airdrop was really just used to kick start the system, but it also served another purpose. It allowed Theymos to evaluate the use of sMerits, and the way members awarded them. This has revealed a lot about the motives and morality of many of the members, some of them quite senior. The inclusion of merit abuse into the trust ratings shows the way that the community takes members' morality seriously.
As a result of the airdrop, and the awarding of sMerit, several members have been added as merit sources, and they are able to feed a constant stream into the community. The ability to award sMerits by quality posters is a great addition, and it allows the responsible members in the community to help shape the character of the boards. This will be an ongoing process, and I believe we will see continuing improvements in posting habits.

I just realized that I would be able to use my sMerits to add Merits to my account. I didn't go through with it, I just clicked on +Merit to see if I'd get some kind of "you can't" error, but I didn't. I don't intend to do it, as I think it doesn't make much of a sense. I assume this might have been discussed before, any reason why it has been thought this way? Thank you.

how can i have my own merit
Please read there for more information, for your interests: Merit & new rank requirements (Theymos, forum admin's topic)In short, after the launch of merit system, only members who had ranks from Member and above were allocated specific points of merits based on their ranks. After that point, all users in the forum (at all ranks) have to collect their own merits by themselves through their constructive, high-quality, helpful, and good-formated threads. No one give your merits for free. You have to make your contribution to the forum to earn merits as rewards for your good works.

It is likely that you did not take your effort to merit yourself far enough. If you do attempt to merit yourself, you will get this message: "An Error Has Occurred! You cannot send merit to yourself." I know this to be the case, because in the interest of science, I just attempted this merit sending upon myself, and I got the above message.

1) Self-Custody is a right. There is no such thing as "non-custodial" or "un-hosted." 2) ESG, KYC & AML are attack-vectors on Bitcoin to be avoided or minimized. 3) How much alt (shit)coin diversification is necessary? if you are into Bitcoin, then 0%......if you cannot control your gambling, then perhaps limit your alt(shit)coin exposure to less than 10% of your bitcoin size...Put BTC here: bc1q49wt0ddnj07wzzp6z7affw9ven7fztyhevqu9k

By the new merit system do you think it can help the newbies or the new comers on this thread ? , Is giving merit are based only on the agree post such as yes i believe or yes i agree something like that. Or merit based on quality of the post either it can help somebody or what so ever ? By the new rank requirements which is the new merit system i think lot of members here giving a hard time just to earn some merit right? But then again the new system , i think it would positively help us to build or construct our post to be quality , i hope some of us don't be shy by giving merit though , .

You need to understand the difference between merit and smerit. It's explained in almost all of the merit threads. If people are still having problems understanding the merit system here, then maybe I should put together some descriptive pages. It's really quite a simple implementation.

Yes, That's right, I didn't try meriting myself fearing that it would actually work. I don't know how hard it would be to remove +Merit from one's posts, I think doing so seems more natural than giving an error when someone tries to merit themselves. Thanks for trying .

In my opinion, this is an April Fools joke from admin. April Fools is a wide known tradition in this world, and i believe it is known globally, not only in one country, but if this system is true, i will be shocked hard.

I don't think it is entirely global which accounts partly for the large number of people not getting it. Then there are those who will always be fooled. I'm enjoying how many are asking what the f in fMerit stands for

Another plus signal is I have not seen Theymos launched something without detailed announcement about its mechanism. Combined all of them, I believe we have witnessed big joke. Congratulations, take it easy and enjoy fun.

Oh, I saw this one, too, TheQuin. It sounds a bit stupid but honestly I don't know what the new ranking system is. Very complicated formula in the code, I do not understand it. Maybe I don't understand due to I am new member and lack of fundamental knowledge to catch those ones. Sorry if I am saying something foolish.
