I agree with everything. But I think there are some things to upgrade or modify. First of all, I think we should give subordinate members the right to get one Merit per day at 0 Merit by default, so that they can give them useful posts. Of course, to get rid of the malicious one, you have to make 1 Merit disappear after a day (ie your Merit is initialized). Instead, it would be a good idea to increase the number of Merit conditions in the condition of raising the member rating.

merit is difficult to collect, although on the one hand this is correct, but with another complicates normal people to upset the rank

Since this update was put into gear I have seen much less drive in anyone to post on this forum. Not only did you absolutely butcher the chances of ranking up within a couple months of being active, but you made hundreds of people leave and no longer use this site. It is nearly impossible to gain 90 merit because gaining merit to give out is so damn hard.
I've only received 2 merit points to give out over the time the system has been implemented. It literally will take over 6 months minimum to gain 90 merit on this forum unless you are super known. This basically created a monopoly for the already highly ranked users here on the forum. Waiting for the day for you guys to either remove this system, or make it more balanced.
Yep. And I warned them within a few weeks after they rolled this out that it would cripple what I considered an institution. It would also create a cast system. It did both. I also predicted it would reduce spam, yep - did that. But at what cost? They basically built up a huge wall around the castle and so people have decided to just build up the town instead of bothering the with the draw bridge. I even recommended they validate my concerns with analytics and made predictions about what the metrics would look like and what those patterns would likely mean. I got some merit out of my post, ironically, but I guess the content fell on deaf ears. Then again, perhaps a walled in castle was the point.

Thanks for the breakdown. Really didn't understand these points until I found this thread!

WEEKLY UPDATE ~snip~
Great analysis man, as usual. From 48K to 19K this is a big fall, idk if this is only because the initial sMerit now is almost totally distributed or because there are less quality posts. Lets see if in the next month the number will fall under the merit source limit. There are 80 merit sources with a total merit generation of up to 18500 sMerit per 30 days

I'd like to know how many of those 18,500 sMerit are actually generated every 30 days. If a source doesn't spend them then they don't get replaced 30 days later. I think only theymos could access that data unless anybody can confidently identify all 80 sources.

There were a lot of merit abuses in the first two months, I guess people got scared to send merit. There were many innocent that got tagged, tho. Well, there was no official announcement of the change, besides this thread and people just begin to try it as " no one reads the user manuals". We need more time for full overview I think.

But if it is the initial merit, it should have been half from the 48k. If i made the calculation. Since the time of 48k, then 48k-18k(merits from sources) then we got 30k initial merit for that time right right? Then if we divide it by half, then it should be 15k initial merit circulated for the last calculation, and if we add it with merits from sources it should be 33K maximum for the last part, but it only 19k. There must be something wrong, and i bet it is the quality is not increasing that much. Well, it could be other problem tho.

I know I see many posts that I would consider giving merit to if I had it. I really think that 80 merit sources aren't enough. Some them have been vocal in saying they can't find enough posts to use up their allocation so it isn't getting regenerated. Each of us has different interests and get involved in different threads. If the merit sources were more in number but each with less sMerit to use I think it would work better.

Same, there are posts or threads that i would consider giveng merits too, but if i had more merit. Yeah, we need more merit sources, and i think sources diversity, like adding merit sources from specific rank, would add more movement in the merits circulation, because you know, sometimes higher rank member have high expectation and standard for a post that they end up didnt give the merit for the poster. I would say adding merit sources for specific rank will help this problem, but of course that sources candidate still should have the ability to distinguish between great posts and not. But it is only my idea, and it has flaws too.

My guess. Some sources are busy in real life and can't read for hours the forum and some others don't care about be a sources.

The first half is definitely the case, I don't have knowledge of the second part. But I think there are plenty of suitable people who would be happy to do it.

If I'm not wrong the first draft of sources was done without the "ask from user to be a source" if this is true, some of those users maybe are not interest to spend Merit. This is my guess and probabily can be wrong.

That's true and a fair conclusion to come to. I've seen a few sources complaining that it's too much work for them to find enough good posts but none saying they didn't want to be a source. I guess if any aren't interested they wouldn't spend their time posting about not being interested either.
