Actually, TheQuin has summarized it nicely, but I’ll just add my 2 cents:
@DdmrDdmr hey I can see you have a huge number of merits, how you got that.
Fortunately, some forum members have gone the extra mile and created methods to allow us all to see be able to see the complete merit history for anyone, if the most recent 120 days isn’t enough (see
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2818350.msg42912815#msg42912815), so we can see anyone’s merited posts and understand the why to it all.
Everyone has their own skill-set, I just happen to be able to apply some of mine here, although there are other forum areas I’d be happier to engage with and probably should, if and when I can master the subjects treated in the area well enough.
I have been very good in terms of posting, still i did not manage to get these many merits. Now since months, I don't have smerits also go give it to someone I want. Obviously, you would have done the right things and I have not. Could you advise how to get merits, is it any special area in this form gets you more merit, because i am mostly active on coin announcement threads.
I looked briefly through your posting history. As you said, you post basically on the Ann Altcoins section of the forum. Numerically, that is the most merit awarded section of all the forum (12,57%), although in the last month it has dropped down to third place (9,27% of all sMerit).
Ann is a strange section in terms of merit. I haven’t analysed it too much in depth, but perception leads me to believe that the sMerit that does get awarded there often goes to Ann thread openers, as a means of creating a perception of trustworthiness in the token/coin as I’ve seen you yourself stated in your posts some time back. These at some point may hand out sMerit to others within the Ann thread. I haven’t taken a look at the specific criteria used, although we have all seen shady awarding going on in that section (as others) at some point, being such a large and dynamic area.
Nowadays, probably contrary to what the Merit System intended initially, there is a large responsibility concentrated on Merit Sources for sMerit awarding. They are behind, I’d say, more than half of sMerit that is being awarded. I would venture to say that the Ann section has no merit sources there (nor need be most would say).
It shouldn’t really be a question of the section that you post in, but it does have it’s influence I guess in terms of where merit awarders may be more active. Even so, that is totally secondary I’d say (with the exception of most local boards) to the main factors such as posts content, depth, and style itself, alongside your aggregate posting history, which conforms part of your digital board character.
I am here more than 1 year before you, still we are on the same rank, does that seem right to you?
Rightness or fairness is a relative concept. Here we are, talking about ranks and merits. Compared to the chances in life that you get, based on where you are born and what family and environment you grow up with, these rank and merit concepts seem rather banal and to some point it seems frivolous to talk about their rightness by comparison really.
Bringing it all down a level, you were probably into BTC a year before me, so does that make it “right” that you got in at a way better market time than me? From my point of view it does, even if I grit my teeth with personal resent for hearing about it all and giving it a pass for such a long time. But that’s on me, not others.
This whole merit system was to stop scams, but it also pushed good actors in some way. I am about to each activity count required for hero, however, I am not even sn member.
I am stuck at full member and i do not see any hope to go forward this way.
I’ts what I was on about in this post really:

Most of the posts that earned merits for
DdmrDdmr were from Meta and serious discussion sections, but I rarely post on those sections.
So this means other section don't have posts that are much worthy to read by others? I agree that there were lot of spammers who have no knowledge about cryptos but still posting for earning money from bounties but we need to have find the quality posts in the bitcoin section as well, since the main reason of the forum is to discussing about bitcoin.
The whole Bitcoin forum section adds up to 9,18% of all awarded Merit (Bitcoin Discussion 4,94%, Bitcoin Technical Support 0,56%, Development & Technical Discussion 2,44%, Mining 0,97%, Project Development 0,27%). Not a lot on a Bitcoin forum, but Merit is not specifically aimed at Bitcoin, but rather any useful/interesting/controversial/you name it kind of post.
Meta is one of the interesting sections, since it has reduced spam and some bright people around, focusing on ideas related to the forum itself. The forum is the infrastructure for talking about bitcoin and other areas, therefore Meta should be a rather merited section. Bitcoin seems under-merited subjectively, but there are many spam megathreads there that don’t help too much, and the really technical posts are understood only by a reduced set of eyes.
