When it comes to stales, besides cost, why could not deepbit pay us for them? Are there users who have more then 1%?
If deepbit paid for them would it get more users to offset the cost?
Thoughts?

Paying for stales on proportional does nothing, other than reward bad miners more than good miners.

Even on proportional the amount of stales affects the amount rewarded per share on average. Not that I'm recommending pools paying for stales - miners will mine at pools with lower stales. Paying for stales means, as you imply, that miners set up properly are helping reward miners set up poorly.

Yeah, I worded it poorly.  Paying for stales over proportional does the following:

1) Hurt the earnings of good miners with proper setups (miners with a lower proportion of stale shares than the pool average stale rate).
2) Help the earnings of bad miners with poor setups (miners with a higher proportion of stale shares than the pool average stale rate).

i.e. the other side of the coin I mentioned first Smiley

The reality is of course that this is a good thing, not a bad thing since:
If you set up your miner properly, you will gain a little more, proportional to your hash rate, for doing that.
If every sets up their miners properly (i.e. a similar reject rate all around) then no one gets more.
Meanwhile, the pool looks better due to the low reject rate - but with prop, the pool is still paying out the same.
... it's a very old idea Smiley

Can somebody explain the futures on the stats page?
Those are tickers from icbit.se bitcoin trading platform.
What futures are: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Futures_contract
All our futures are cash-settlement type, BTCUSD is based on USD/BTC exchange rate and the number is in USD (at this moment in contango state, as you see), OIL and GOLD were just recently launched - the price is in BTC.

I'll check this now.

UPDATE: Possibly there is a DDoS attack in progress. I'll post more details when possible.

Please take a look at the first post on this page, situation is explained there.
Now it gets better, but really there is nothing we can do against the DDoS.

Well you did say "possibly".  So there is definitely a DDoS going on now?

A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text.
Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing?

Yes, now it's definitely a DDoS.
Currently about 40% of users are affected.

Don't worry, your coins won't disappear from your balance.

Some new frontends were deployed, they started working before SSL cert was updated. Will be fixed soon.

UPDATE: Should be fine now for the majority of users.

I'm getting connection problems again, still DDoS?

EDIT: Why don't you greenlight IP's?!? Just add an IP field in the users settings and only accept connections from these IP's!

EDIT2: Or maybe thats exactly the problem: I just switched IP!!! My old IP connects fine, it's the new that is borked!
Currently all our traffic is still going thought a filtering system.

That's called "whitelisting", and it's done automatically by the filter. Sadly sometimes new IP is not added, but we are trying to improve that. By the way, what was your hashrate with old IP ?

EDIT: now the site works fine... but pit.deepbit.net is still borked...
May be your DNS is resolving deepbit.net and pit.deepbit.net to different IPs ? One of those filters may already be faster. Also if you are doing this from different PCs then even same domain can be resolved to different IPs.

You don't have to post IPs here, just check if they are same in both cases or not.
