Man, i just dont know which one to throw a few btc at and let it sit in a wallet and forget about it for a year.

Then it's not XMR due to the emission rate. Inflation will kill your holdings over that time period.

Well, split it and diversify. Problem solved.

Nah, I like to win big....and lose big
lol
One more thing drk is btc compatible.
Example it was integrate to DieectBet really easilly (drk xollect mire vote too) but I think the comparibility help a lot.

Directbet adopted DRK way before Core though... ThePatient ... now that is something that will certainly fit your bill. Try it.

www.directbet.eu
yes but even before core it was btc compatible.
Did you try to send some CN coin, you need to put another key on the reciever side to be able to send something for exxample..

Darkcoin or Monero? Where should I invest?

I think that InstantX is moving Darkcoin into a category of its own, you cant see it as an "anon" coin anymore, because just with InstantX Darkcoin would be a real contender on the crypto world, that is a huge feature with great potential. Add to that Darksend and I would invest more into Darkcoin. Having said that, I dont think the two are mutually exclusive, I do think that any cryptonote project like Monero is a way longer term project because of the untested codebase. Below you find my take on Darkcoin vs Cryptonote coins (e.g. Monero), from a previous discussion.

I do have respect for the cryptonote projects, I hope they do well, that is good for the crypto community at large. I do think that adoption for them will come slower and are thus longer term projects, longer than DRK at least, because you dont only have to deal with the maturity of the added functionality to the original bitcoin protocol but with the stability of the CN protocol itself, they have had some real scares in that front. So for large and mature crypto businesses to adopt Cryptonote a long time of stable performance, third party reviews, etc, will be needed.

Having said that, the way we compete with Cryptonote coins is not by going into a pissing contest about anon, but by adding other features that differentiate us from them. Namely:

1. Darkcoin currently has a better financial model. The current Cryptonote coins are highly inflationary the emission rate is too fast, I believe this is inherited from the original coin when it was launched, this is a problem from an investment perspective specially since they are working with a new protocol and thus will need time for the market to slowly adopt, inflation is one of the main threats they have to deal with. Darkcoin, on the other hand, took care of this early on and has a small block reward that is reduced by 7% each year, and distributes that block reward between masternodes and miners creating a better balance and less incentive to dump.

2. They have some additional things to work on like GUI wallets, and I also believe one of their main GPU miners was developed by a gifted person that still takes a percentage of all coins mined, this is something they have to deal with in time too. I am sure they will develop all of this, but again it will take time, time that we will use to make sure Darkcoin finds a place in the market  in terms of adoption that ensures its long term survival.

2. We are working on other features, namely instant transactions, this is compatible with the Darksend architecture but not with the Cryptonote coins, this I believe is key, as it will differentiate Darkcoin from other anon solutions by adding value in a different area that they don't currently support. This actually will make Darkcoin competitive with any coin, anon or not.

3. Ease of integration to existing services we use the exact same Bitcoin API, rpc calls, etc.  This is key to get current Bitcoin businesses to add Darkcoin, as they dont need to make a big effort to support the coin. I think the cryptonote coins will have to rely more on new businesses that are created from inception to support their coins, like they have done with their online game, but that takes longer.

Because of the above, I strongly believe the cryptonote coins and Darkcoin can perfectly coexist as we would be leader on the Bitcoin protocol and they can work on developing the Cryptonote ecosystem. So cryptonote and Darkcoin in my opinion are not direct competitors, specially as Darkcoin is already adding other features that will support it above and beyond privacy.

We know you're a Monero shill, and it's cool, we don't hate you. It's just really sad you have to spam the drk thread to get fuel for your marketcap.

You're so full of hate, or is it passive aggressiveness?

Not sure why.

One: I've been on this thread much longer than you

Two: I lied when I said I was selling all my DRK when I got pissed one day and said I was gonna sell it all before I flaked out to the BCN thread. Actually, I've continuously held more, in value relative to the dollar, in DRK than I've ever had in Monero save for the few months people went nuts over it, because the amount of it I bought OTC happened to gain that much value.

Three: Facts go way farther in my book than shilling.

Usually you guys are on point for defending darkcoin but nothing so far except massive down votes for the darkcoin supporter in this reddit thread.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/2tel4r/vulnerability_in_bitcoin_found_by_darkcoin_dev/

The issue was patched in Bitcoin Core 0.9.4 (released just a few days ago), we forked from 0.9.3. So they beat us to fixing it. It's funny though how r/Bitcoin reacts to stuff like this though... crazy.

According to nullc (maxwell I think? Coinjoin inventor / darkcoin hater) the fix in darkcoin is incorrect?

Yeah, I missed the later reference which still causes the client to crash, will be fixed in 11.0.13.

11.0.13 Core - All Users

Just updated my MNs to .13, It's pretty smooth and they work like clock now.

And if someone got the "network agree" problem, just try to stop and start with -reindex. it will fix that problem for you.  Grin

Oops, guess I'm kinda a dick then.

Sorry g4q34g4qg47ww, I think?

I thought thepatient was legitimately asking which one to throw money at...

Whatever you pick, never trade it, never sell it, forget about it, pretend it doesn't exist, try to make it worthless, try to make it worth more, say or write whatever you have to, do whatever you have to do to hold on to it, no matter what that is .. until there's absolutely no doubt in your mind it's time to use it.

Crypto certainly isn't linear.

Just my PO.

I'm having an issue with v0.11.0.13-g90ad641-beta (64-bit). (Win zip file version).

Earlier versions were crashing for me today but this one synced up fine after using a December wallet backup and clearing out peers etc.

The issue is that most of my wallet balance has disappeared - yikes!

Specifically, I see three transactions, dated Jan 21 and 22 that seem to account for the missing amount. They are labelled "Darksend Denominate" and I'm guessing they were legitimately part of a recent Darksend Mixing episode that had looked normal before today, but it appears that the post-mixing return of the balance has disappeared.

Any thoughts on this?

DarkSend mixing is literally a process of sending coins to yourself (your newly generated change addresses) together with few more people. So you need these new receiving addresses to get control over your coins. And they sit in your wallet.dat like any other addresses you own. To get your coins back please use your latest backup (Jan 22/23) - I hope you saved your wallet.dat somewhere before using the one from December....

Thanks - that sounds promising.

I'll work on it with fresh eyes. Thanks for your help.

Edit: Update - the latest backup (Jan 23) looked bloated, about double the size of earlier wallets, which is one reason I went back to earlier versions in debugging attempts. I tried the Jan 23 wallet using version 13 from scratch though (no peers etc) and the client crashed in various ways - never the same twice. Runaways, lockups (not responding), fatal error messages etc. No pattern that I could see although there was sometimes a message to the effect that the wallet could not be used.

My next available backup was Jan 20. It rebuilt fine right up to Jan. 21, at which point the Darksend Denominate amounts were deducted and did not return, leaving only crumbs as the account balance.

Whether or not I get this fixed - have I stumbled on a significant problem - if a DRK wallet gets corrupted or a drive crashes or whatever at about the time of a Darksend mix, might it mean that the mixed coins become unrecoverable? I am used to being able to recover other coins using a grandfather type of backup system and just working backwards until an older backup is good enough to seed a recovery - the only cost is length of time for a rebuild with older versions.

I think one needs a deterministic path for rebuilds in case of wallet loss/corruption but a nondeterministic way of mixing coins for anonymity. Ouch!

How about that 7k DRK sell on Cryptsy just now?
+ the 10k dump on bitfinex = ~17k

i'm glad otoh got part of his order filled and that the drk have been transferred out of  weak hands.

How do you know it wasn't him?

Back online now from west coast US, as I said before I won't create artificial volume by selling in to my own walls, many thanks for the coins who ever sold there, it will be a day or two before I can get my MN wallets live again and update to v.11.0.13, then I will restart any of my dropped MNs and add a few new ones I expect.

What happened to the rest of the buy walls that I thought were going to stay up for people to sell into if they desired? Just curious.

Im wondering if Otoh has gone a bit less obvious.. When he puts up his massive walls it pumps DRK up, he pays more and others get the cheaper coins.. Maybe he is just being a bit more subtle with it now, little buys (by his standards) here and there, thats what I would do....

And just keep slowly taking coins off the market...
