So what about the West Indies ? Are they coming with their full strength ? If they do not drop any player due to injury or covid19 we could witness interesting games between the two teams as clearly some of the England good players are out of the team.

He can but its long way for him now first he need to check with Sri Lankan police about 2011 world cup and then think about any other way I personally love person like him to lead ICC good player and real gentleman. Is that investigating messing with the lives of these retired players now, if that is the situation that is a really fucked up situation to mess people's life just because some stupid politician accused about letting the world cup go which is really stupid as both teams played really well and Sri Lanka reached the finals and then the final was really competitive till the end, i always felt like Sangakkara never got the accolades when he was playing but looking back he was the best technical players in cricket and if he could get a position in ICC or the Sri Lankan cricket board i am sure he will make changes that would help grooming cricket. This is no point in going back in the history and investing the players also when Srilanka actually reach the finals. Wouldn't it be better if Srilanka instead of focusing on the history, focus more on the current team and try to make srilanka a better team by get rid of all the politics within the cricket board. The minister was more involved in it that the players. He was more concerned and now Srilanka has dropped the investigation before it even started. What a fool they are making of themselves. One thing they have achieved is tarnishing the reputation of a few legendary players. https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/id/29403833/investigation-sri-lanka-2011-world-cup-final-defeat-dropped

Still 4 days to go so they didn't announced anything regarding their front line squad including backup players and playing XI announcement takes place before the game. This is complete squad for Windies ~snip~ Edit: But this is the current WI squad announced: The Squad:
Jason Holder, Kraigg Brathwaite, Shai Hope, Shane Dowrich, Roston Chase, Shemarh Brooks, Rahkeem Cornwall, Nkrumah Bonner, Alzarri Joseph, Chemar Holder, John Campbell, Raymon Reifer, Kemar Roach, Jermaine Blackwood.
Reserves: Sunil Ambris, Joshua Da Silva, Shannon Gabriel, Keon Harding, Kyle Mayers, Preston McSween, Marquino Mindley, Shane Moseley, Anderson Phillip, Oshane Thomas, Jomel Warrican.

I completely forget that we are going to witness the first international cricket match after the three-month lockdown in a few days. Even without Root, Bairstow, Moin Ali and Curran, England looks far better than the West Indies team. Hope WI give a good fight for us and we don't see a 3-day match instead of 5 days.

I am not expecting West Indies to outperform England even if some of their players are not in the team, i do not remember a series in which West Indies was dominating in the Test level, if it is any other format then i would give them a chance but not in the Test format because they lack quality players who could play longer innings consistently. And England will be playing in their home condition. So the things will be tougher for the West-indies. I am eagerly waiting for this. It's been 5-6 months since we haven't seen cricket.

Are you guys really interested in watching test matches without any spectators? Test matches with spectators themselves are boring sometimes which is why no spectators makes it even more boring in my opinion. It would have better if they organized T-20 matches instead since they are entertaining even without spectators. I can understand why test match enthusiasts are excited though.

If you are working or busy in life then you wont be able to follow these matches even you are a cricket enthusiast and most of them follow the highlights and that is the case with me but i will never miss the Ashes series but not interested in ther rest of the matches.

West Indies is good team for "one-day" match and "T-20". They are a little bit weak in test match. but they have plus point in this series. because some renowned players like Bairstow, Moin Ali and Root will not play in this series. if west indies will play this series with their full strength, then we are going to see a competitor series. Now I’m just waiting to see the west indies’ squad.

If it is a one sided battle then there is nothing interesting to watch even if there is a million spectators and West Indies and England is not going to be a close match either as England might dominate them.
This is the main problem which I observed with test matches. Only popular series like the Ashes etc are usually viewed by test enthusiasts while the rest are usually viewed as highlights on YouTube etc. This is how I watch tests myself though I am not a test enthusiast. Also, England could face some issues even though they are technically a way stronger team due to the COVID effect. West Indies could surpris them if they bowl the right lines and lengths.

Who has the time to watch a match for 5 days when you can watch the highlights of the whole day in just 30 minutes? Test cricket is losing the charm because of the amount of time it consumes whereas other formats do not. This is another why you do not see crowds in the stadium.

Sub continent fans are used to watching empty stands when it comes to the Test cricket. I would say plenty of experience under their belt so nothing new hehe

It is test format, and I am not expecting any miracles by the West Indians. Gone are the days, when they used to dominate this format. Now I would consider it a good performance by West Indies, if they somehow avoid a complete white-wash by the England team. BTW, I am very happy about Ben Stokes. He should be leading the team more often. He has got the right balance of aggression and deviousness.

Generally, I don't bother about the audience I love to watch test matches with or without any spectators. I agree that its slow-paced but I don't think it's boring when played between equally matched teams. In T20, batsmen don't value their wicket, they just look at ways to hit the ball for runs. In Test cricket, batsmen actually value their wickets while trying to score runs and play as long as they can. A good ball deserves a leave and a bad one is punished to boundaries, you can see this in Tests. But in T20s, batsmen go after the bowlers all they have to worry about is runs. It is test format, and I am not expecting any miracles by the West Indians. Gone are the days, when they used to dominate this format. Now I would consider it a good performance by West Indies, if they somehow avoid a complete white-wash by the England team. BTW, I am very happy about Ben Stokes. I too am expecting a complete white-wash but I want to see some fight from the West Indies team. I want them to at least drag the game to the last day. If it was one-sided it can be boring.

Nowadays most of the test matches can be boring and one-sided. Examples are the recent tours by South Africa to India, and the tour by Pakistan to Australia. And this is one of the reasons why I wanted two divisions in test cricket, with the strongest 5 teams in the first division and the other six teams in the second division. However, the ICC came up with the stupidest idea ever, and they included 9 teams in the first division.

I don't think that will be a proper way to handle the championship. The current system is not that bad. There are some teams who play least International test matches which I think one of the major reason of having underperformance. Big teams like India, Australia, England play more matches than other which is another reason of them performing well.

Take a look at the West Indies squad and tell me one player who is consistent in the Test level, there are players that performs well in the ODI format in that squad like Shai Hope but to understand the real situation take a look at all the Test averages of the players that are in the squad and majority of the players average around 30 which is not even a standard in International cricket. I too am expecting a complete white-wash but I want to see some fight from the West Indies team. I want them to at least drag the game to the last day. If it was one-sided it can be boring. The only hope for West Indies in the Southampton ground is that they defeated England recently twice in that arena and that is the only confidence they can have going into this match, their batting line up is pathetic and good luck dragging the game till the fifth day against James Anderson, Jofra Archer and Stuart Broad.

It's true that the recent matches are one-sided and as suggested if we have like 2 divisions we'll have some good matches. But I don't think that will be practically acceptable one when deciding the Test Champion. When it comes to ODI, we have like 8 established cricket teams(IND, AUS, ENG, NZ, SA, PAK, SL, WI/BAN). So in order to decide the test champion, we can't just remove 3-4 teams from the list and ask them to play in the qualifiers to compete with the top teams for the Test championship.

They are considering every team the same considering most of them are not playing a lot of Test cricket nowadays. This may be the reason why they have included all 9 teams in one division.
