I think that will give us an idea, so the salary is just very low compared to international league I guess. Making like 400k to 500k per month is very small if you are a superstar, I think Fajardo is making 500k per month, and I also think they will have big bonuses if their team wins.

The figures are good in terms of playing in the country. Not that low as joining the international league is not as easy and isn't a sustainable offer even a player is a superstar.

Calvin Abueva for example, if only don't have a problem in the league might take the offer to play abroad.

And you are right, there are bonuses, especially with SMC teams. A big bonus especially for a championship. Scottie Thompson gives us a clue about how much is it and he claimed the bonus alone can extend his Thompson’s Sports Hair Shop business into 3 to 4 franchises.

That's why they are aiming for the championship, unfortunately for the weak teams, a superstar would just rely on the salary as there's no way they can be in the Finals or even in quarter or semi Finals. Big teams are dominating and if they see some player with potential playing in a small team, they'll sign them to make their team stronger.

Just imagine, Romeo and Pringle were the best players in Global Port, now they are playin in two different SMB team.  Grin

This upcoming draft is an exciting one as it is talent laden poll. Dwight  Ramos has not yet filed his application for the draft but there are big names in the pool that exciting to watch in the PBA, Jason Brickman, Munzon to name a few.

Who do you think will be the number one pick over-all this upcoming draft?

I'm not so familiar with all the players in the picture, I only know Jason Brickman actually and I think this guy really played well, so I guess he will be the number 1 pick, just my wild guess.

Ever wonder why Scottie Thompson had a good 3 point shooting percentage in the bubble?

Here's the answer.

https://www.spin.ph/basketball/pba/how-mark-caguioa-helped-scottie-thompson-improve-his-outside-shooting-a793-20201227?ref=home_hybrid_2
Quote
SCOTTIE Thompson credited Barangay Ginebra teammate and former MVP Mark Caguioa for his improved shooting this PBA season.

Thompson, 27, said the veteran guard was never amiss in giving him the confidence to keep shooting from the outside especially when the opportunity presents itself.

“Si Kuya Mark, sinasabihan ako about sa shooting ko, kung kailan ko puwedeng itira,” he said. “Minsan kasi sabi niya, puwede ko nang i-tira, pero di ko tinitira.”

Not exactly known for his shooting prowess, the fifth-year guard delivered in the clutch for the Kings during the recently concluded bubble season at Clark, Pampanga, hitting two pressure-packed treys in two important games in the playoffs.

He hit the game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer that clinched for the Kings a berth in the finals after their 83-80 win over the Meralco Bolts in their do-or-die encounter.

I'm sure it's fresh in our memory the winning 3 point shot of Thompson against the Meralco. I like to brought it out here.

Nice one! For sure Scottie will be more confident on his shooting become versatile as well. Thanks to a veteran like Mark Caguioa for pushing him. I'm expecting that he will do more outside shooting the next season.

But aside from it, my other concern is his Free Throw Percentage. It was a little bit low compared to others, only averaging 59%.  That's why if you may notice, he is the one who always get fouled by the opposing team during crucial times because they knew that there's a high chance for him to miss. Yeah we know that he is more a defensive player rather than an offensive one but free throws are part of the basics, every player was expected to master it. But good thing Ginebra got Richard coz Chard Knows Free Throws Cheesy.

After this encouragement from Mark "the Spark" Caguioa for sure the next thing in his mind is also to adjust and enhance his FT percentage.

This confidence that he gained fromt he last bubble gives him the previledge to keep practicing and making it more better from his shooting capabilities.

I see your point, since he also part of the circle in terms of crucial minutes, he really needs to improve his FT capabilities, it will add more
threat to the opposing team knowing that he can deliver if duty calls for him to take the shot.

Don't worry about that, slowly Scottie will improve because he is willing to learn, he is already contributing a lot in the floor and eventually he will become an all around player. Just look at Lebron, he is also good but he struggles in his FT, maybe some players really have weakness but I'm sure they're working on it.

Can't compare him to Lebron, he is a GOAT (I think so now)... Grin

Anyway, Scottie was compared to Rodman here as his highlight was not really his offence but his defense and rebounding, but the fact that he is improving, that is good to know, and who knows one day he will win as the best play of the conference or the season, it's not impossible as this kid is really a hard working PBA player.

~snip~...

One thing i admire about Scottie Thompson is that he is brave enough to take the shot. That's is part of the opponent's game plan to leave Scottie Thompson open rather than Tenorio or Pringle which has a higher percentage than Thompson on that area. There's a saying "Pick your poison", i think that's it.

The case of Scottie Thompson is not different on that of SMB's Chris Ross. He is more of a defensive player when he came to SMB and have very low percentage on the outside but that all change when opponents always leave him open. His confidence is high shooting those 3's because there is a high chance that they will get the offensive rebound because of JMF15. It's just a matter of confidence.

Who do you think will be the number one pick over-all this upcoming draft?
Munzon is what I see the #1 pick right now. He played very good in 3x3 and he is very athletic too.

I love to see these rookies playing in the PBA. Most of them are very promising as I see. I'm still waiting for Andre Paras to be included in the draft pool too Smiley

Nice comparison there, and I completely agree with that, Scottie Thompson is younger and he is learning many things to improve his game. Chris Ross when starting was also not a good 3 point shooter, he just developed his game overtime and look how good he is now.

Nice comparison there, and I completely agree with that, Scottie Thompson is younger and he is learning many things to improve his game. Chris Ross when starting was also not a good 3 point shooter, he just developed his game overtime and look how good he is now.

Scottie has a very decent number with 11.45 PPG, 8.82 RPG, and 6.36 APG

I think that data was on the last conference alone and I would say it's really a big improvement, he is almost an all around player, a little big short by westbrook's triple double but no doubt a better team player than WB.

Agree to that! better than WB as he's very wise and act as role player than treat himself as superstar,  A kind gestures that respect his
teammates.

If you have this kind of a guy inside your team who can help boosting everyone, he's small but he's capabilities challenged all his teammates
that there's nothing impossible if you really bring all your best when you are playing.

Excited to see what more addition to his performance, aside from his outside shots
I'm also aiming for him to keep attacking and drop the ball with Japet or whoever
inside.

Scottie Thompson is good and there's no doubt about that, but let's just refrain from comparing him to an NBA All-Star or Superstar (Rodman, Westbrook etc.) as the environment have a big difference. Cheesy He has his own play different to mentioned NBA players here.

Like for example in Game 2 of the recent PBA finals, he is struggling throughout game and don't have much contribution.

But look, he's still brave enough to take that clutch shot and that's the only field goal he made on that game. Memorable one on his career.

I only remember the Yap brothers to perform well in one team.

Do you mean James Yap and Roger Yap here?

They aren't brothers mate.

Scottie Thompson just needs to work on being a consistent player.

He saved lots of games of Ginebra via his clutch shots during the playoffs but his average is low. Maybe because Pringle is the center of their offense.

But one thing for sure that Scottie will be a franchise player of Brgy. Ginebra and maybe become the face of the team in the future when his seniors are now retired.

He will get there someday, I think that he is doing what he can for the Team, even Tim Cone believes in him. He said in an interview that he needs to be more aggressive with his plays because he believes that it helps his team a lot. He will be a franchise player for the team, remember that he was the Former Finals MVP. If he can synergize his plays with Pringle I think that it spur him to greater heights.

As long as Pringle is their, there's someone who can provide the offense they need.

Scottie is good, but he is not like Pringle who can generate a lot of points, scottie is just some kind of player who helps in the defense and so a little of offense. Sometimes, his points is even lower than his rebounds, he is a beast in that department.

Munzon is what I see the #1 pick right now. He played very good in 3x3 and he is very athletic too.

I love to see these rookies playing in the PBA. Most of them are very promising as I see. I'm still waiting for Andre Paras to be included in the draft pool too Smiley

Agree, Munzon is a very promising player but for him to be the #1 pick over-all defends on who's got the right to pick #1. AFAIK it is Blackwater who will pick first and i think they won't select a wingman if a PF or Center prospect is available.

My pick for the number 1 overall is Troy Rike if Thirdy Ravena won't be submitting his draft application. Troy stands 6 foot 8 and a banger which could slow down somehow opponents bigs.

That's the beauty of this team, they are well balance  they don't need  to become a ball hog to give. Pringle got all the  authorization to keep attacking to break the defense.

All the role players knew how to work with him and that's includes Thompson, he's not asking that much for the ball but he work and
keep moving in case drop may happened then he's there ready to take the shot.

It's more exciting season after the bubble as SMB's stars players, Fajardo and Romeo are both expected to play,
it will test BGSM to face to face with their sister company who have deeper squad like them.

It's been in the news that Greg Slaughter apologizes for what "he did" before that leads to his contract not being renewed.
https://www.spin.ph/basketball/pba/greg-slaughter-apologizes-to-ginebra-management-expresses-desire-to-rejoin-kings-a795-20201229

And BGSM team governor Alfrancis Chua responded: "There is no bad blood. I think he's mature enough to realize that what he did is wrong."
https://www.spin.ph/basketball/pba/alfrancis-chua-on-greg-slaughter-s-return-to-ginebra-a1931-20201229

Looks like there's really a "big issue" behind that we didn't know. I'm curious about what Slaughter did. Referring to this article back during the time when Slaughter is on the hot topic,  I didn't found a clear answer but just the rumor of the possible trade between him and Christian Standhardinger.

Anyways, if you read the article about Chua's response, we can consider that Slaughter's return is still has a low chance "for now". Maybe because it's early to get back in business (PBA trade talks, signing, etc.) as we are in the Holiday season and still has several months to go before the PBA opening.
