So the update now with PBA is that players already in a bubble creating space for them keeping away from these virus. I actually think that players are not high risk to this virus because they are athletic.~snip~

I had to cut your comment and let's discuss your opinion.

Check the list of NBA players who got infected with covid-19 here (https://www.slamonline.com/nba/nba-coronavirus-covid-list/), and now tell me that are not in high risk of getting infected as they are athletic. They might not feel the complication because of their healthy body but just look at the other risk, they might be able to carry the virus and live normally but what about the people around them?

The high risk is they can also infect people.

That's right, anyone who has the virus has the risk of getting his health destroyed or destroy the people he can infect with the virus.

Breaking news for Phoenix.

Phoenix fires Louie Alas, appoints Topex Robinson interim coach

Quote
PHOENIX Super LPG fired Louie Alas as head coach of its team in the PBA, appointing Topex Robinson to take over in an interim capacity.

The Fuel Masters made the stunning announcement on its social media accounts on Friday, just days after suspending Alas for 15 days for breaking health protocols in the team's return to practice amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Good luck to this team, hopefully the decision would result to an improvement of the team.

That must be the reason, he broke the protocol so the team decided to fire him, and they tank when Abueva got suspended.

Anyway, time for the interim coach to do the job, I guess coach Topex Robinson has already a lot of coaching experience in the PBA though he has not become a head coach yet, so good luck for him and I hope that hussle play of the Phoenix team will remain, they are known for their good defense.

New coach in abueva's comeback, that would be a great news.

You are right Coach Topex is in this field for such a longtime, but with the head coach it will be his break now.

The timing for Abueva's comeback would be very interesting knowing that both alumni's are product of San Sebastian 'Baste"
maybe the blends will work now that Robinson already the head coach.

Phoenix had success also with Alas but when Abueva was out, that's where the nightmare started. Well, the team are always working for the best interest of the team and their aim is to win, Alas is just unfortunate not able to finish his 3 years contact with the Phoenix, but it's still all good for the team.

Abueva coming back is the bigger news here.

Since their entry in 2016, Phoenix's overall performance is at worst so I don't call it a success.

There is only a single time where they reached the 2nd place but even twice to beat advantage on the playoffs, they lose.

Phoenix's problem is not the coach but the players itself. They need to overhaul the roster.

I just newly notice this Parks and Enciso is on TNT now read the articles here guys https://www.pba.ph/news/parks-enciso-come-on-board-for-katropa for having them TNT will became more stronger team. But also I'm sad about the retirement of Kelly Williams  since I think he can still contribute interms of experience but I'm sure he will get a special slot on the team and maybe he will became a mentor of those youngsters on his former teams.

I miss a lot of updates will read some interesting articles here https://www.pba.ph/news.

Park were already part of the TNT team in the past conference, I think Enciso is the new recruit as the last time I saw him, he was playing with the Alaska jersey. I think Parks could be successful in TNT but it will surely take time to build the chemistry especially that he is not handling the ball most of the time with TNT, they have castro who man the floor.

Nothing to be sad, his time has come, they can't be young forever but we will surely miss his contribution to the team.

They called him "THE MACHINE GUN KELLY".

Maybe not a success for you but they have reach in the semi finals IIRC.

There is only a single time where they reached the 2nd place but even twice to beat advantage on the playoffs, they lose.

I guess it's hard to do that unless they can acquire a dominant center.
What I've noticed in the PBA in the past years is that when a team has a good big man, they usually win, like Fajardo for instance in SMB and even the GSM with Greg, this is the only two teams that dominate the league, but wait up, GSM was a shitty team before coach Tim Cone accept the coaching job, so maybe we can also consider the coaching job of Phoenix which is not good or outstanding.

I'm finally back here after a long vacation, lol..

There are a lot of news today but what excite me is the update on the PBA return, they will have their own bubble and that's what I like to witness.

Quote
Even with fans limited to watch the games on TV, the PBA is all set to return with a bang, holding a bubble setup in Clark City in Angeles, Pampanga.

Though still awaiting the government's official nod, the pro hoop has scheduled its Season 45 Philippine Cup restart on Oct. 9 at the AUF Gym, with the compact tourney running for two months.

It will be in Clark Pampanga, I hope this is final and the date will not be postpone.

I am positive that PBA will resume because NBA already does and Filipinos are really fans of basketball NBA or PBA and other local basketball events. How I wish PBA to start immediately after all the pre requisites or requirements complied. For now, watching NBA is one of the interesting event of basketball. I assume majority of Filipinos are following now the results of NBA play off series to which now already in conference finals.

All the speculation of the PBA resumption is finally taking shape and i believe that this PBA bubble in Clark City will push through and successful because they will just copy what the NBA bubble have done and maybe improve some other things that is applicable to Philippine settings. It's good that the date of the resumption coincides with the ending of the NBA.

I expect for one season to finish this year from the PBA and this is it.
The owners of the team really want it that the league can finish at least one season so they can get some advertisement still.

Now is the time that many PBA fans are waiting for Cheesy. I also saw this in one legit Facebook page and I'm quite happy with it. I really do hope that this date will not be postponed or at least no hindrances will happen before and during the PBA resume or they will stop it again.

I think it will not be postpone, they have prepared for this and they have some model that they are following which is the NBA, also they have an ample time to prepare for the resumption, and PBA organization is very strict in implementing the rules so I'm not expecting another violation that will be reported that could hindrance the resumption of the conference.

Latest news about the PBA Bubble.

PBA chairman Vargas reveals Clark bubble will cost league around P65 million

Quote
THE PBA Bubble definitely won't come cheap.

Board chairman Ricky Vargas disclosed the league will have to shell out around P65 million just to resume the season in an enclosed environment at the New Clark City in Angeles, Pampanga.

The commissioner has always stayed away from that question. But I’ll tell you, it’s close to P65 million that will cost us,” said Vargas Saturday during his guest appearance in the Power&Play program of former commissioner Noli Eala.

Initially, the Board and commissioner Willie Marcial refused to make an estimate on how much the PBA will have to spend in putting up a bubble similar to the NBA concept being held at the Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

Vargas said the league will be ‘spending quite a sum of money to see this through,’ shortly after the Board on Thursday decided to choose Clark City as the ideal place where the PBA can resume its season.

Quite expensive but the PBA teams can surely afford this, the only question in my mind now is that can they operate profitably with that huge expense?

AFAIK they'll only get their revenue from sponsors and advertisements, are they gonna earn more than they will spend in the Bubble?

IIRC, PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial said that they won't expect much of a profit once the league resume as what matters to them is to give entertainment to the people. We can assume they already accept the fact that once they resume the league, cost > profit.

About the cost, they have funds to support the expense and they are ready to resume the league.

But for how long they can sustain the operation with only a few revenue, I don't know.

I just don't believe them saying it's just for fun, for sure higher ups will still require to earn a profit. They might as well not continue it if all they can have is their money losing. It will not work that way honestly. I think it will be pushed through if they see a certain light about gaining a profit for it, even just a few. Cause as you've said, they can't continue the operation with that set up.

Yes they have funds because PBA is the biggest basketball league in the country and they have lot of sponsors, this return, they probably are just playing at a lose just to entertain the fans and with that we have to thank them.

But for how long they can sustain the operation with only a few revenue, I don't know.

If they are running this league without profit then I don't think it will last longer since they are business people who aim for profit, and in addition we also have to consider that teams are paying millions of pesos for the salary of the players and the staff so it's not worthy if they will not get profit in return for their business. Maybe we will only see the PBA in one conference if Covid-19 still stays, it might be halted again.

P65 million in just two months, i think they can afford they one considering that this is the only time that they will do a bubble and also i think we have a better scenario next year in terms of COVID transmission plus the vaccination of people then things would be back to normal.
It's very good that they are doing this bubble at this time of the year because it somehow show the Filipino people a glimpse of hope and also be entertain in the comfort of their own home as we are an avid fans of this sport.

Was there really an assurance that we will be free from covid in the coming months? The vaccine has not be release yet, I think no country yet has already invented a working and proven vaccine against the covid-19 so it's hard to expect that everything will be back to normal after this conference. P65 million is easy as they have budget now but for another conference with the same set up, I doubt they will resume.

No assurance that we will be COVID free next year mate but the sure thing is that things would improve and people can learn to live with it if ever it still exist but if we will based our speculation on history, the 1918 FLU pandemic lasted only two years and the vaccine was developed more than ten years after. With the complex technologies that we have at the moment, this COVID-19 pandemic would be over in less than two years IMHO.
