First world problems - tired to read news about war. At least don't write such bullshit. Now I'm spending my vacations time very well and simply enjoy life, but at the same time thoughts about war comes to my head that people in Ukraine is living in war almost 6 months, many people lost their home, lot of young men dying in front every day and their families won't see them returning from war. Russian is not the natural language to ukrainians, this is colonial language which was forced to learn by force. So it's normal that country want to leave colonial past behind. Perhaps you hit the nail on the head, and inadvertently pointed out the root cause of the issue. Asking if a language can be all those things, could be sort of a litmus test. I strongly suggest you reevaluate your position on the language (not asking you to reconsider events or people, but the language itself), and going forward question any sources that made you come to such conclusion.

That means, that you need to know this language and if you're a government worker you need to operate trough this language. If you're asian, in Britain you will communicate with other people trough english, not chineese or vietnameese.

Oh no, I wasn't trying to compare Ukraine's book bans that took place after being invaded by, and while still at war with Russia, and long standing Russian policy.  They aren't the same thing at all.

I thought I was against banning any book for any reason....but I have to admit "that country just invaded us, unprovoked and have been running around calling us nazis, blowing up random buildings and murdering thousands of random civilians in our country for the past 6 months, Putin is doing to us what Stalin did to Ukrainians a couple generations ago"  seems like an acceptable excuse to ban imports of books from Russia/Belarus, and inspecting all Russian books for Russian propaganda.
