*Again* for those who are less educated about Bitcoin's history than they pretend to be:

https://twitter.com/pnosker/status/488469467467628544

Developmental issue vs. Business Security Failure.

Worlds apart. Apples and oranges. lol

You have to remember that the issue you are referencing was in the infancy of the DEVELOPMENT of Bitcoin. Not some business fuck up.

There is a difference.

Edit: I love how you are trying to justify what happened today as legitimate by point the attention elsewhere (like Bitcoin's past), which is not something you can compare it with. Damage control always comes with diverting attention elsewhere. Nice try, but not working.

You fudding idiots, letting the hackers keep the 8m coins wouldve been much worse. It would have created a massive sell off, either from the hackers or the investors anticipating a sell off from the hackers. You guys really have nothing better to do but just keep on repeating the same nonesense for hours? Hey bobby, doesnt it kind of suck for other coins that the hackers stole VRC instead of any other coin? Obviously VRC is an established giant for that to happen. And its not going anywhere.

They took vrc because mintpal had weak security measures in place for vrc. The attackers tried to get btc and ltc but we denied as that security is beefeeer then vrc.

People only try to steal what is valuable.  that is why they went after Vericoin because they know it is a coin that will be worth more in the future.  They could have stolen cloak or some other trash coin but they went for VRC and BTC!

The thieves know a damn good coin when they see one!

No, they stole it because Mintpal forgot to put it on cold storage.

It wasn't on cold storage due to the high volume

Paypal is only successful because the powers that be allow it.

Vericoin has no backing of the federal reserve in terms of approval.

Paypal is a broken system.

Once the issue gets resolved and the devs and community come back to the thread, its going to be a fucking circus with all the fudders. See you later VRC thread, prob will be locked.

This ^ is what I see given what happened today with the rollback.

No rules just roll it back.

Future implications of roll backs need to be addressed. They devs said they will never do it again. I doubt that.

What if 30% gets stolen again?

What % is the cut off to be considered "roll-back" material? 10%? 20%?
maybe then developer will go true way of development POS.

Anyway solutions to 30% staking should be implemented already, if VRC is PPC>NOVA>BC fork
and whole situation of 30% coins is just smoke screen of saving Mintpal exchange.

Here source of info.
Issues/controversies ( http://coinwiki.info/en/Novacoin )
Stake generation issues

The main proof-of-stake design problem is that unlike proof-of-work hashing rate, stake weight could be used multiple times without any overhead. It allows potential attacker to repeat his attempts to generate consecutive stakes until he will get lucky enough. And there is high probability to success without holding large stake, 20–25% of total weight (not coins) will be more than enough. Attacker can retry his attempts to generate consecutive stakes 1,000, 50,000, or 1 million times without any problem, using the same outputs.[12][13]

This could be worked around using centralized check-pointing. Novacoin creators resolved this issue using balanced weighting scheme.[14]
Centralized check pointing
_______
(BC POS 2.0 make more to repel those kind of attacks too... )

PayPal is successful because of demand.

Without demand you have what is common today, crypto that is good for laundering money and not much use in mainstream economy.

Paypal is popular because there is little alternative. That is why. Now Bitcoin comes along...watch paypal go the way of the dodo bird.

We agree that this situation looks like PayPal fraud department f**** . Yeah i stop using Paypal for over 1 year since Bitcoin . I have no idea what people say here that PayPal is successful as many bussines understand how much harm they actually do . But did they had any other option till Bitcoin ? No .

Also here is our article : http://247cryptonews.com/vericoin-lack-integrity-bailout-mintpal-mistake/
Not much but we want people to find out how stuff are going on . If i had 30% of vericoin and i have been hacked i bet all my bitcoins that Vericoin Team wouldn't have moved a single finger . We had a few Vericoins , now heading on Bittrex to sold them all . This entire operation it's becoming shady . Oh sh*t can't dump ....bittrex has VRC disable .

Goverment - Bailouts Banks . Vericoin - Bailouts Mintpal Smiley

Mintpal has not provided proof (as far as I am aware) they were indeed hacked and not just claimed to have been hacked.

This sets a precedent now.

I can see a user getting 20% of the coin supply in the future...selling them for BTC or buying something for VRC and after they get what they want they can just cry foul and ask for the devs to roll back the VRC blockchain because they claimed they had coins stolen that were of "substantial" amount.

This is a joke what happened today.

Oh shit, you've been here all day all night arguing about vericoin. Why so fucking concerned as you aren't even holding any VRC? We know your intentions, now get lost and let it be.

Obviously you know nothing.

My purpose here is to out the bullshit as much as some of you may want to suppress it.

Like many others, I have a lot of Veri on Mint. The only reason its there, like everyone else, is to trade. No one uses Veri, so a rollback was feasible.

But it might have just fucked crypto in general.

What do you mean, you can rollback Bitcoin? That's what every government around the world will be told. That's what every bank is going to spell out as to why they won't allow crypto.

As soon as possible, I'm dumping my entire holding.

Stupid fucking decision.

What about those transactions that took place in the meantime?

What if someone actually transferred big amounts of vrc to cryptsy and dumped them for btc. And now he finds out he still got the coins in his wallet...  Grin
