An observation:

In the first cycle (Bitstamp), Bitcoin dropped 81.26% (Keep in mind Bitcoin traded approx ~50% of this cycle)
Second cycle, Bitcoin dropped 86.89%
Third cycle, Bitcoin dropped 84.12%
Fourth and current cycle so far Bitcoin has dropped 77.34%

2nd, 3rd, and 4th cycles have seen the majority of adoption which has increased each time.

IMO, if you're waiting to buy at cheaper prices, you're gambling.

This train waits for no one. Don't get r0ached
DYOR

hmmm...my ocd says that in the first cycle we dropped from roughly $32 to about $2, which is more like 93.75%.
I agree with the sentiment, though.

Ridiculous. One retarded exchange goes under and this? Too much speculation again.

yeah the stable coins issued by any exchange are simply completely fucked up and used to attack pow btc over and over and over.

repeat why would any usa citizen want a stable coin over an I bond.

if you understand how to use I bonds they have been killer investment since nov 2021.

nov 2021 7.1%
April 2022 9.6 %
nov 2022  6.89%

you can buy 15k worth if you know what you are doing and stagger them in case you need cash.

so from nov 21 to oct 28 2023. you could have 7.1% to 6.89% on the most perfectly pegged usd coin there is. USD itself in the I bond.

45k in over a 2 year time slot that will pull around 7.4% juice on it.

this is crushing crypto stable coins.  Which are crushing btc.

good thing is it will be over soon. maybe jan-march and we should be done.

DCA boys and girls.

seriously, could you stop plugging the ibond here, eh, on a f-g bitcoin thread?
first off, it is only 10K/year and second, you have to wait more than a year to collect that interest; you are losing 3 mo worth of interest if you collect yearly.

why people want stables: to reinvest in "crypto" on the swing, of course. Nobody uses them for true savings.

Lots of us gladly buying this dip, sowing seeds for generational profits in 3 or more years. Some here will be in a bad way, having not sold any in 2021 & struggling to pay bills etc due to the current climate.

We all enjoy a good laugh, ‘who gon’ mindrust’ but this is real life. Just keep HODLING, do not sell in panic. We are going to $150,000 or more in 2025. Please don’t panic, lots of us have been in this situation in previous bear markets. It’ll be fine, relax, turn the screen off & get away from charts. Bitcoin will recover & reach new ath’s.

If anybody is in a bad place & needs to talk, feel free to PM me.

I am not in a bad place, but 2018-2022 were disappointing despite a few successes.
As I said before, wall street would now give up on this as i don't see how they would soldier on since they trusted at least one guy (SBF) and he f-d them over.
A premier VC fund, Sequoia, invested half a bil in FTX at 32bil valuation. These kind of disasters are not easily forgotten in Silicon valley and elsewhere.
Same for regulators, which will hark back to us (regular folks) in various restrictions of trade and investments.
Regarding a 150K number-barring a minor miracle I now cannot imagine it happening in 2025.
Turns out, "crypto" is a perfect venue for stealing (or losing) customer funds. Who would have guessed?
That would leave a mark for, say, 7-8 years or so (until 2028-2030) as it was during the Internet bubble (took AMZN until 2007-2008 to fully recover from the Internet crash).

That is all very sad on the balance, because I believe that without a development of a parallel financial system (based, hopefully, on bitcoin), the current one has no chance of surviving long term (the debts are just too high).
1044  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 09, 2022, 07:30:39 PM
are we poor once again?

no we are not yet at bottom. 16k to fall very soon.

who knows and if it does, then certainly not because you want to buy it there.
In such moments, an exact price prediction is an utter gibberish.
btw, speculative biotech started the burst of the Internet bubble in 2000.
If cryptocurrency (or bitcoin) market craters, it might cause a domino effect in the rest (SP500).
However, the whole market already corrected a bunch, so maybe Great Depression 2 ain't going to happen.
1045  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 09, 2022, 02:38:21 AM
so.....lemme get this straight
Binance dumps FTX tokens knowing they'll be fucked since, well, they use FTX as collateral for loans or whatever (...remember cost of creating an FTX or token is 0.0000000000001$ on the blockchain)
FTX is fucked
Binance points gun at FTX and says gimme your non-us assets at what, a huge discount from highest valuation (dont think we know the price yet), or well dump more tokens and you'll be so fucked
Alameda is just his personal trading firm to front run clients and do the arb in house, they say "well buy all the tokens"
But they are full of diesel sludge because all their capital is probably loans based on worthless shitcoins they borrowed from customers at FTX
So they fold and the Sam guy cries in his 100s of millions or whatever of funds

And so the current cycle is coming to an end, where nothing was real and all was smoke and mirrors.

Stay tuned for the next pump, spring 2024 first wave, autumn 2024-winter 2025 is going to be fun (just my prediction)

Although if anyone remembers, my superbowl crypto-ad prediction seems to have come true  Grin

You are right, but if speculators cannot make money speculating and loans are "not working" and even Saylor's hodling did not work 'yet", then what wall Street would be able to bet on?
Just trading bitcoin up and down?
They would be left with your conclusion that "nothing was real and all was smoke and mirrors" and might even include bitcoin in that "nothing".

You see, they (PTB) always feel that people with the "right connections" would "make it" and if Celsius/"The Machine" was cryptocurrencies "Bear Stearns", then I am afraid that FTX/SBF/Alameda could become a "Lehman". However, if CZ would successfully plays Bernanke/Paulson/Geithner role, then we might be OK.
I just don't see major institutions in it (the whole space) after this debacle.

Even when it's cloudy and i leave the telescope inside, i try my best on a hand-shot (supported) of the full moon.

1/50 sec @200mm
Really lucky, tonight.

Nice.
Just an anecdote...last night the moon was practically vertically up at my location at some point in late evening.
When that happens, i have difficulty with my small portal telescope.

Jupiter is almost always close to the Moon during summer/fall...that one is much fun to look at with all its visible satellites (looking like little light dots around it).

bitcoin on the other hand....sheesh.
1047  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 08, 2022, 09:16:59 PM
FTT reversed at around pi (3.14)...someone has a sense of humor?
-85-90% in the last few days
...brought bitcoin 3k lower..ouch!
1048  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 08, 2022, 08:43:37 PM
btw, there is no way that three letter agencies (FTC, SEC, etc) would allow Binance to buy the US part of ftx (FTX.us), imho.
It is possible that CZ wouldn't even want it, all things considered.
1049  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 08, 2022, 08:36:19 PM
This is the "last call" FUD shorting bullshit to liquidate idiot longs.

All markets will being to rally after tomorrow and into the end of the year.

Totally..maybe an up/down wiggle within a single session at first for a proper disorientation.
1050  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 08, 2022, 01:13:09 AM
Oh, yea...Searing, a fellow miner...sometimes members are peeling off and we don't know.

Searing was in mid sixties before the COVID if I remember correctly.
Others who have not been seen in a long while: infofront, gentlemand, last of the V8s, hairymclairy, marcus_of_augustus, Elwar, some older gent-a major whale (forgot the exact nick, maybe bitcoin bear or something, but he was always needling everyone about forks)?

Some folks probably made a fortune by 2021 and sold off, some are probably not here anymore, others might lost an interest in btc (if it is possible).

BTC to the ...

Some thin fogging going on throughout the session. Waited for clearer sky, but won't happen until 2am or so, i guess.
The full moon's appearane looks relatively flat, all light coming from the front, no shadows, but from the craters near the horizon.
Without the foggy clouding, the picture would have looked more crisp, but it's OK for first try on the moon.

Nice.
Almost 100% sure that the big spot is Tycho with an impact about 108 mil years ago.
Apparently, it was about 2/3 of the diameter of the dinosaur-killing rock that hit earth about 42 mil years later.
if Tycho hit Earth instead, we might have had different evolutionary path altogether (no T. rex, for example, albeit mammals already existed even 108 mil years ago, but were not dominant).

EDIT Ha, apparently dino-killer and Tycho crater forming asteroid are sisters/brothers as explained here:

But there will be only 21,000,000 bitcoins

Or 0.002625 btc/per person

Maybe 6 bil adults, so ~0.004 per adult-plankton
10X more than average is 0.04 btc (just about $500 rn)-shrimp
100X more than average  is 0.4 btc-fish
1000X is 4 btc-dolphin
10000X is 40 btc-whale
100000X is 400 btc-blue whale (i know that they posted much higher number before, but this is what I surmise the whale size account would be eventually and the prominence of whales confirms as there are about 10K-25K blue whales and 14K addresses between 100 and 1000 btc)
1053  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 07, 2022, 05:54:21 PM
Hyge seizure:

I don't know why it's news now if the seizure happened last year, so the value of those BTC is now just a little more than $1 billion.

if it is $3.5 bil, then maybe gov can accept META shares for someone's tax obligations at $390/share valuation?
It's also from Nov 2021, lol.

Here is the guy who believes in something [bitcoin].
M. Saylor talks with P. Diamandis (not sure if it was posted before or not):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4na2pycrcc

TL;DR a bit of a $10 mil/per sweet hopium, but it is much more...enjoy.

Whenever he is in this particular location...  where is this?  It loks like it might be the interior of a boat.  His yacht?

French Riviera?...the shirt says: St. Tropez...i know, he could be anywhere and it is just a shirt, but i guess one would not want to wear a St. Tropez shirt while on Trinidad &Tobago, or am i wrong?

Some renovation bills are coming up....maybe sell some bitcoin?
....naah.

But can you resist the temptation to sell some to get these high fashion trousers?

haha...tempting, but i am literally too old for this "stuff", albeit I used to be skinny like that...way back.

@jjg..just say no to batslapping  Cheesy

@JJG..I have no clue what you are talking about (at least in my direction), but, again, this situation is pretty typical.

Have you fellas seen this?
Is stage 2 of deleveraging about to commence?

https://www.coindesk.com/business/2022/11/02/divisions-in-sam-bankman-frieds-crypto-empire-blur-on-his-trading-titan-alamedas-balance-sheet/

https://news.yahoo.com/binance-sell-rest-ftx-token-165514765.html

Granted, they are talking mostly about "crypto', but nobody actually knows if bitcoin is among the assets Alameda holds.
The fact is that MOST of Alameda assets are in their sister/parent company token (FTT) and they lent out 7.4 bil $ worth based on that value (and unspecified "crypto", which in part may or may not be bitcoin).

TL;DR "Due to recent revelations that have came to light"...It seems that SBF is under pressure.
1059  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 06, 2022, 05:53:38 PM
Bitcoin is definitely a communal property, but it is unique with some interesting complications.

For example, if you communicate the private key to the second party (wife, husband, gf, bf), then you basically relinquish the property and rely on their honesty, which is fine, but we all know how contentious breakups sometimes are.

If, on the other hand, you don't communicate the private key, then the other party has no ways to participate in a split of such property, unless you signed a legal document stating that you have bitcoin, specifying the amounts and accounts.

Looking up keeps us grounded and also reminds us what tiny of an unimportant fart we really are  Grin

I agree with keeping grounded, but re the other statement, it remains to be seen, Fermi paradox and all.
Evolution does not have a direction, so it is absolutely not predestined to produce intelligent and above all, technologically advanced (with various levels of such) species. The skies are silent and no visible megastructures are present (no cities in the sky in comparison to what you see on the Earth surface from the nearby space).

For those who are scientifically inclined: read the "Wonderful Life: The Burgess Shale and the Nature of History" by Stephen J Gould
Here is the most important part:
Quote
In his highly influential book ‘Wonderful Life’, Harvard paleontologist Stephen Jay Gould proposed that evolution is an unpredictable process that can be characterized as

“a staggeringly improbable series of events, sensible enough in retrospect and subject to rigorous explanation, but utterly unpredictable and quite unrepeatable. Wind back the tape of life to the early days of the Burgess Shale; let it play again from an identical starting point, and the chance becomes vanishingly small that anything like human intelligence would grace the replay.” (Gould, 1989, p. 45)

Infucking deed ya are!

and the meaning of this random word soup is?
