1121  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: High Fee on: May 15, 2023, 09:40:01 AM
If bitcoin transaction fee is 0.5$ then you can do bitcoin transaction. Because Bitcoin transaction fees usually range from 0.1$-100$.
I am not sure it has ever been $100 in history.
https://bitinfocharts.com/comparison/bitcoin-transactionfees.html#alltime
https://www.blockchain.com/explorer/charts/fees-usd-per-transaction

From two charts, you can see all time high transaction fee per transaction is about $60. I don't make screenshot and attach images here as images might have problems in future. You can click on links, choose all time tab and check it by yourself.
1122  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin IS an asset. Do you think it's bad? on: May 15, 2023, 09:24:37 AM
To make it more simple and probably easier to understand, you can look at it this way.

Bitcoin (with a capital B) = the technology, the network
bitcoin (with a small b) = the investment, the currency, the asset, etc

It's somewhat a naming convention flaw that makes it a bit confusing for the uninformed.
Nice point.

If anyone does not know their differences, Pmalek has Do you know the difference between Bitcoin and bitcoin?.

Honesly I did not know about the differences years ago and that thread is useful for newbies.  Cheesy

With bitcoin, we can also use its symbol BTC
Code:
[btc]
1123  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin IS an asset. Do you think it's bad? on: May 15, 2023, 08:09:37 AM
most people here treat Bitcoin as a technology that gives us freedom and represents ideas of satoshi

Bitcoin is not a technology. It is a product from blockchain technology.

Quote
I realized that everyone I talked to treat it just like an asset to invest in.

people think that Bitcoin will become stable enough to become a new currency

not as a technology that should be used to give people freedom from the banks?
People can use bitcoin differently. Some will use it as an asset. Some will use it as a currency, a payment method. Some will use it as a tool for trading on cryptocurrency market. Some will use it as a mean for their scam.

Freedom, yes Bitcoin and its decentralized network, its non custodial wallets already give us enough freedom and free from banks.

If you have your Bitcoin private keys, you have your own banks and freedom technically and financially.

I didn't think Everton will feel confident going against City, they will lose that game 4-0 probably Grin

I meant that if Leicester loses against Liverpool, it leaves Everton in a good position before the last 2 league games.
My gut feeling is that they will stay up, although they were horrible throughout most of the season.
Manchester City simply are overwhelmingly stronger than Everton even with their second squad. They do not use their main squad for this match as in mid of next week, they will host Real Madrid in a semi final which is a second leg and will decide what team will go next.

The temporary result is already 3 - 0 for Manchester City with two goals for Gundogan, 1 goal for Haaland. With about 30 minutes left, Manchester City can replace some star players with alternatives and can find one or two more goals with those substitution players who want to show themselves and find a better position in their club.

Submit a Request to imgur to allow image linking from bitcointalk.org:

There's no straight forward solution unless imgur allows it again. Or may be if we request imgur personally to allow image linking from https://bitcointalk.org/.

It seems that the most viable solution lies in imgur's willingness to allow this functionality once again. By personally reaching out to imgur and collectively expressing our desire for image linking from bitcointalk.org, there is a possibility that they may grant our request.

I'm sure if certain number of people request the same thing they might allow it

Here's the request form select "I have suggestion" or "My topic isn't listed here"

I kindly request your attention to the matter of enabling direct image linking on the esteemed Bitcoin forum, bitcointalk.org. I have been an avid user of imgur for posting images on this forum, but to my dismay, all of my images have suddenly ceased to appear on the forum. Despite their continued availability on the imgur platform, the linking functionality to bitcointalk.org seems to have become ineffective.

I would greatly appreciate your assistance in permitting image linking from this esteemed hosting service on bitcointalk.org. It would be immensely valuable for me and thousands of other bitcointalk users to continue utilizing imgur as my preferred image hosting platform. Therefore, I kindly request your consideration and support in enabling bitcointalk.org image linking.

Keep the subject "Allow images linking from https://bitcointalk.org/"

1127  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: You are still very early on: May 14, 2023, 01:35:21 PM
being early or late is just a relative term. even if you are early, if you don't do anything, then being early is useless but if you think you are too late, but you have done something like stashing some satoshis, then you are much better as compared to the one who was early but did nothing. so contemplate on what you are doing doing these times. if you think there's future in this market, act now. but don't regret if you just observed and did nothing today.
Joining early does not mean you gain profit or success. Like people who bought bitcoins in 2013 or 2017, not all of them sold their bitcoins at all time high or at least peak range in those bull run.

They joined early but they could sell their bitcoins at cheap price too or worse they got forced liquidations if they used margin, leverages for trading.

So joining time is important but not decisive and result you get will be a combination of many factors.

With Bitcoin, a most successful way is dollar cost averaging DCA: https://dcabtc.com/. With this approach you will have less headache, less effects from emotion, psychology and avoid loss by trading (spot, leverage, future).
1128  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: You are still very early on: May 14, 2023, 11:50:11 AM
You are late comer but you are not too late, the party is still here.

After 3 more halvings, 98.4% of total supply will be mined and imagine from 2032 to 2140, more than 100 years, there will be only 1.6% of remaining total supply will be mined.
If you are wondering about decision, this fact is not challenging too much for you to make your decision. Join or miss the party.

1129  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin open source wallets that support replace-by-fee (RBF) on: May 13, 2023, 04:49:01 PM
151 sat/vbyte is at very tip of the mempool but it is not a highest fee rate used in waiting transactions in mempool currently or last 24 hours. The highest values are somewhere from 250 to 300 sat/vbyte (last 24 hours).

By mentioning 151 sat/vbyte, you are making newbies panic. They actually can get a confirmation in a next one to two blocks with 70+ or 80+ (80+ is better choice) sat/vbyte.
https://jochen-hoenicke.de/queue/#BTC%20(default%20mempool),24h,weight
https://mempool.space/graphs/mempool#24h
You later saw what happened. But that is not the main discussion, this is about the importance of RBF. I was only explaining how RBF can be helpful to increase transaction fee so that stuck transaction or transactions that are not likely to be confirmed early can be replaced by high fee one so that such transaction will not be stuck and remain unconfirmed for longer period of time.
I wanted to inform you that you gave not clear information.
The mempool is at 151 sat/vbyte now.
When you mentioned mempool is at 151 sat/vbyte, what is mempool at that fee rate? You did not mention about it, with 151 sat/vbyte, it is 1 vMB from tip of mempool or 50 vMB from tip of mempool. The second part is important because it will help us to know what is an affordable fee rate to use at that time.

No offense but I hope you understand my contribution. Your information is not enough and not enough can be considered as not accurate.

Like now, I can write mempool is at 200 sat/vbyte but it is 0.121 vMB from tip of mempool and I can use a lower fee rate like 50+ sat/vbyte (0.823 vMB from tip of mempool) to get a confirmation within next 1 or 2 blocks.

1130  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: USDT sent to inactivated address! on: May 13, 2023, 04:35:19 PM
What do you mean by being inactive? Do you mean you can't spend the tokens you received?
Inactivated address or wallet is not a correct term written by OP and nobody understands what is OP's problem.

First possible issue is OP sent USDT to an old receiving address on his exchange account. It can fall into two possible cases: That is a change address but still belongs to a same wallet for his account. Or it is a new receiving address in a new wallet because of latest upgrade from that exchange just like Binance did weeks ago. The first case is fine, money will not be lost. The second case is risky and OP might lose his money and must open a support ticket to resolve it.

Quote
I guess you are using a non-custodial wallet and you can't spend the tokens due to not having TRON in your wallet. If that's the case, all you need is to deposit TRON to your address.
Possibly.

If it is OP case, OP must understand about a blockchain, its native currency and tokens on it.
A native currency is needed to use as transaction fee on one blockchain, for any transaction like that native currency transaction or any token on that blockchain.
TRON is a native currency on TRON network and it is used for transaction fee on that network. USDT TRC-20 is a token on TRON Network and USDT TRC-20 transaction will have to pay fee in TRON.

Same for BNB and BEP-20 tokens, ETH and ERC-20 tokens. Bitcoin and BRC-20 tokens (like Ordinals).
1131  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Does reversal occur with bitcoin transaction. on: May 13, 2023, 04:25:08 PM
I had some fiat transactions within the weekend, sending money to a number of persons in my unit and I discovered some hours later that one of the transaction has been reversed, a transaction which I have already gotten a debit alert to the credit of the receiver which he confirmed the reception. I had to then resend it once again.
Some payment methods have charge back like Paypal. It is more risky for you if you use Paypal for your deal.

But do not accept a transaction that has no confirmation only means a warning to people
It's not a warning by word but it has its meaning in practice too. The importance of transaction confirmation depends on each person who is in the deal and what is big or small that deal is for the person.

Yes, if you accept a bitcoin payment before it is confirmed, then you are accepting a certain amount of risk.  However, there are LOTS of ways we accept some risk in our lives.  What you need to do is to understand the risks, and then decide if you feel it is a worthwhile risk given the situation.

There are many situations where you may want to accept an unconfirmed bitcoin transaction.
True, Danny.

Different exchanges have different requirements on minimum confirmations of their user deposit transaction before they will credit that deposit amount to user account.
Big exchanges tend to require less confirmations than small exchanges, 1 compares to 3 confirmations for big and small exchanges respectively.

Casinos are usually more keen on accept 0 confirmation but still allow users to bet. However, they don't allow users to withdraw after that deposit transaction has like 1 confirmation minimally.

Risk consideration and accepted confirmation in recommendations from Jameson Lopp (but each person, each platform has to make decisions).
How many bitcoin confirmations is enough?
Quote
If you are patient enough to wait for at least one confirmation then you are no longer vulnerable to race attacks or Finney attacks. Now your only concern is 51% attacks. What's the rule of thumb for an acceptable number of confirmations?
  • 1 confirmation: sufficient for small payments less than $1,000.
  • 3 confirmations: for payments $1,000 - $10,000. Most exchanges require 3 confirmations for deposits.
  • 6 confirmations: good for large payments between $10,000 - $1,000,000. Six is standard for most transactions to be considered secure.
  • 10 confirmations: suggested for large payments greater than $1,000,000.

also make weekend payment abd study when the mempool is not congested.
It is partially true only.

During weekends, there are less demand for transactions than intra-week days (working days) so usually you will have less waiting transactions in mempools during weekends. But it does not mean mempools always are not overloaded in weekends. The network can be congested a few weeks or months and if you fall into such periods, mempools will only get cleared a little bit but still likely congested.

For the first time since 2022 I have officially put an end to Bitcoin payments on my business until further notice
You should announce it in your business thread instead of creating a new thread (this one) for the announcement. In future, if you want to resume your business, make another announcement in that thread, not create another new thread.

Quote
I have gave few people some discount advantages to spread news about Bitcoin and now I am not so sure anymore, I can't even afford $5 per Bitcoin transaction, and also my customers that are surety when it comes to Bitcoin payment have all halt.
I could be wrong but do you have a business and accept Bitcoin as a payment method. So (assume it is true), your customers will have to make on-chain transactions to send their bitcoins to your wallets. They bear the transaction fee, not you. Correct me if I am wrong with my theory.

Quote
Is there any business owners accepting Bitcoin still? How are you doing it?
Big or small, you can always receive bitcoins. Problems appear only if you are senders and have to pay transaction fees.

Is there any way to go around this?
Lightning Network.
1135  Other / Meta / Re: Imgur images suddenly became invalid? on: May 11, 2023, 10:27:55 PM
The problem is probably from imgur. Their site now automatically redirects from the old domain imgur.com to imgur.io
I don't know about it but will check more.

Quote
Not sure why the did this but yes indeed the images with the imgur.com link are not showing in the forum.
Not all images are invalid. Perhaps some different reasons to make images valid or invalid from imgur.com.

I could be speculating, but It looks like Imgur has changed their terms of service. This involves removal of explicit content and "old, unused, and inactive content that is not tied to a user account from their platform" according to a TechCrunch article.

In addition to explicit images, Imgur is also removing old and unused photos that are not tied to an account. As a Twitter user noted, Imgur has been used for years to upload photos without an account and post links to different kinds of sites. Removing those images might result in a lot of dead links all over the internet.

The changes are going to take effect this Month on the 15th. That's just 3 days away, so I believe they started blocking proxies?
It is a terrible rule update from imgur.com.

With this change, I guess in future they will force people to pay money for image hosting. It's all about money at the end.

Years ago, they allowed to upload images with Tor but changed it and now, more terrible changes. Time to move from imgur to other sites.

1136  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Europa League 2022/23 Season on: May 11, 2023, 10:22:08 PM
Despite Roma losing points in the league, Mourinho knows what to do in cup games. They won the first game 1-0 at home. The goal came at 63 minutes. I expected the goal earlier, but there was no goal in the first half. In the second match, Mourinho will be looking for a goal from the counters by playing defensively. In this way, I think that he can easily write his name in the final. The coach of the cups is about to win a trophy again. The Mourinho level is a whole other level.
Mourinho is every experienced and smart and his tactics is perfect for knock-out matches. I felt like he intentionally reserved his players for Europa League when he saw that opportunities for AS Roma to compete for top four in Serie A becomes vague in a last few weeks.

Roma did not play better than Leverkusen in a first leg semi final and they even faced with conceded goal in early of first half. However, they played strictly in tactics and minimized chances for Leverkusen to have goals in Olimpico. Bove again had another great match for Roma and he has become a new icon in Rome. He is a home-grown player for them, just like Totti and De Rossi and now started to have bright future with them.

It was a magnificent goal from Gatti to end the game on the 97th minutes of the extra time. The equalising goal has brought hope back to the Italian side. Juventus deserves the goal because they took total control of the second half and they mounted pressure on Sevilla till Gatti finally broke the deadlock on Sevilla. So many opportunities were not properly used by Juve, as they lost many chances in the second half.
It is a simple goal for Gatti, not a magnificent one but it is so important for Juventus. With this goal, they had a draw and will play a second leg in Seville with less pressure.

We know that Sevilla have very good support from his fans at their home stadium and it won't be easy test for any guest. Juventus actually deserve to have goals in the  match after many opportunities they created. In that equalizer, if not Gatti, Milik can score it too as they both can complete that situation easily.

This draw will help Juventus and Serie A to hope that they will have an Italian final match in Europa League between Juventus and AS Roma.
1137  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will the adjustment of the difficulty rate help with lowering transaction fees? on: May 10, 2023, 03:04:50 PM
My friend and I were discussing Bitcoin transaction fees yesterday, and he believes that transaction fees are related to the difficulty rate, and since the difficulty rate is adjusted roughly every two weeks, transaction fees will go down after the adjustment. I wasn't so sure
Nobody can be sure about that.

Difficulty, difficulty adjustment, network hashrate, transaction demand (waiting transactions in mempools) interact with each other and impact on transaction fee.
If difficulty adjusts to lower than now, blocks can be found with faster average block time that can be helpful to clear mempools at faster rate. However it is only true if the rate of new waiting transactions in mempool remains the same like now. In reality we are unsure what will happen with that rate in next 2 weeks and later.

Another factor is hypes around Ordinals, BRC20 that can contribute to add transactions with very high fee rates at tip of mempools. It will cause domino effects and late comers will have to increase their fee rates if they don't want to wait a few weeks. You can not control how people react with their transaction need and mempools, fee rates.

Sum up, it is a very complicated scenario but I believe that sooner or later, the hype will no longer hot than now. From DeFi, NFTs, GameFi, Metaverse on Ethereum ERC20 chain, I believe it won't be different on Bitcoin blockchain.
1138  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Question/Help!] Bitcoin Transaction Fee Discrepancy on: May 10, 2023, 02:49:37 PM
The problem with Myceliuem is that you cannot set the transaction fee based on mempool. That is why Electrum Wallet is highly recommended as you can input the transaction fee based on the current fee shown on mempool.
If it allows you to type your favorite fee rate, it is acceptable to use. I don't see that allowance with Mycelium wallet. If it does not have Mempool option but allows you to type fee rate manually, you can manually check mempool by yourself and type it for your transaction.

With Electrum wallet, I double check mempool manually every time before I broadcast my transaction.

Quote
Mycelium as per my understanding follows Johoe's Bitcoin Mempool Size Statistics and uses it to give those fee options.
I am not sure about that.

OP can move this topic to Wallet software (Mycelium) board.
1139  Other / Meta / Re: List of the forum's admins/ global moderators/ staffs on: May 10, 2023, 01:39:04 PM
You can find all administrators in the same way by typing "administrator" in the box.
It is how I found staffs, admins, VIP members and Donators when I made my threads.

@tranthidung: Cryptios needs an update too:
Official confirmation: alanst is not a member of Cryptios anymore.
Thank you Loyce. I knew about that announcement from Cyrus but forgot to update this thread. On it now.

What could be the reason that a staff would be dropped by theymos after being appointed? Could it be related to wrongly handling cases or intimidation of ordinary members?
Mostly is because of inactivity or abandon the forum. It can be from other personal reasons like Dabs.

Forum staffs were chosen very carefully and very less likely they will turn to be scammers. I recall that one forum staff was removed because of scam (it is very far in the past).

With the re-opening of Vietnamese after being blocked for spam, I hope that the Vietnamese language becomes more active now.
I put my time to request unlocking that local thread but sadly local members did not contribute good things there. Only a representative of BitcoinVietnam looks good and I am very doubtful that Vietnamese guys will be actively in that thread. They are very early Bitcoin adopters in Vietnam.

The number of unconfirmed transactions is again high, as it was in 2017 and not only.
Has the era of bitcoin passed as the number 1 cryptocurrency?
Or is it a move to strangle his price?
Reading your topic title and your total activity point, I guessed you are a new member in last few years, one or two years after 2017. When I checked your profile, I found that you are from a 2016-cohort and you are surely knew about what happened in 2017 (with the quoted content too).

I don't understand why you tried to say it is a first ever Bitcoin has problems to be seen. This time, what is happening is significantly better than what happened in 2017 or 2021.
