2501  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Coinomi wallet hacked, all funds stolen on: March 06, 2023, 06:56:40 PM
The wallet was drained on Feb 14th.  The password was in my head not on paper.  The seed phrase was on paper in a safe which only I have access to.  Coinomi denies all responsibility and basically says too bad so sad.  My wife and I are retired, the wallet held our "safe" retirement cash savings.  Stay away from this wallet.
Sorry, but this is ultimately your own fault, this is a hot wallet and there is always a risk that something gets leaked if you are not careful.
I bet if I scanned your device used for installing Coinomi (probably with wInD0ws OS) that I would find several malware, or software that records what you type.
That is why people invented hardware wallets and that is why they are using airgapped devices.
On top of everything, Copinomi is closed source software, it's mistake using closed source Bitcoin wallets.

2502  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: All You Need To know About The World's First Functional Bitcoin Watch. on: March 06, 2023, 05:46:02 PM
Is this Bitcoin watch a great innovation for everyone or just for a selected few, or is it just a waste of money for anyone who intends to buy it?
For me this is not innovation at all, but rich people often throw money away on things like this... so why not.
Bitcoin watch would be cool to have as collectible item but I certainly wouldn't wear this Vanguard Bitcoin wallet with QR code public address and private key on USB stick.
I especially wouldn't waste do much money (from 13,000 to 82,000 CHF/EUR) for any watch in the world, but I understand this was designed to be luxury Bitcoin item.
2503  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Taproot Address vs Segwit Address: Clarification Needed. on: March 06, 2023, 05:38:35 PM
I have heard about taproot address and segwit address but it seems that segwit address is the most common type of address requested for bitcoin transaction. Why? For example when I go to the service board most of the campaign requires that applicants submit their segwit address. Why? Would bitcoin be lost if I send taproot address instead of a segwit address?
Segwit addresses starting with bc1 are much better than old format address starting with number 1 or 3, main reason is because fees are usually lower than for other address types.
Taproot addresses are very similar like segwit for regular users  so there is no much difference in fees, but they support scripts and they are even better for saving fees on multisig addresses.
Mostly used today are Segwit addresses, that is why managers are asking people to submit them instead of old formats, but you can use Taproot as well and nothing will be lost.
2504  Other / Archival / Re: Moderators trimmed the post counter on: March 06, 2023, 03:44:12 PM
Thanks for the links. If there was a big recount, then apparently this is a very rare occurrence, because in almost 4 years of my active presence on the forum, for the first time I encountered such phenomena that a bunch of posts simply disappeared.
This issue happened to me few times before and I couldn't explain how it happened exactly.
I never cared about that so much but I noticed this difference in campaign spreadsheet and I couldn't find the real reason, that was probably related with some older topics and topics, and maybe previously deleted posts are the real reason.
Note that I never checked if BPIP and Ninjastic websites are showing the same number of posts or not.
2505  Other / Meta / Re: Change a topic into self-moderated retrospectively / add polls retrospectively on: March 04, 2023, 09:26:49 PM
So, once a topic is created it can get filled with spam and we can't prevent that, we are just dependent on moderators deleting it?
You can still report all the posts you consider to be spam and moderators will probably delete most of them, if you created that topic.
It wouldn't be fair to change topics from normal to self-moderated later and I think scammers could abuse that function.
Just lock the old topic and create new one that is self-moderated... it's not that hard.

Doesn't make any sense in my opinion because I see zero reasons to disable it. It's just beneficial for spammers.
It doesn't make sense that you can't delete topic you created, but you still can't, and many other things  Tongue

Coinslotty trenutno radi s oko desetak strimera i vjerovao ili ne svaki isusov strimer out there hoće drugačije uvjete Cheesy Tako da ti sve ovisi od osobe do osobe i koliko negotiation powera ima. Ako si veliki strimer onda možeš doslovce uvjetovati što god želiš, no ako si neki mići mawi onda smo mi ti koji postavljamo uvjete.
SirJohnVonSlotty jeste li odabrali i naručili one hardverske novčanike o kojima smo pričali?
2507  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Novosti on: March 04, 2023, 06:19:51 PM

2508  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Best and Secure HWW ( Hardwarewallet ) on: March 03, 2023, 05:45:15 PM
What do you think would be the safest hardware wallets?
There is no one universally best and safest hardware wallet in the world, and you can always find good and bad things in all of them.
I would generally avoid any closed source hardware wallets devices like ledger or safepal, and I would look something that has regular updates.

If you are only need wallet for Bitcoin than Foundation Passport is good option, but it is more expensive than others.
ColdCard is not really open source anymore now it has common clause license, and it can be used only for Bitcoin like Passport.
BitBox02 wallet is fine open source wallet, but it's not exactly my top choice.

The coldcard is also not included in the list, apparently coldcard is not that trustworthy
You literally wrote ''cold card'' in your list:

For me it would be
cold card
BitBox02
Foundation Device and OneKey
2509  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: zomg lightning netowrk payment is fast as heck on: March 03, 2023, 05:24:58 PM
I just did my first every lightning network payment from a smartphone wallet to a desktop wallet ( 2 different wallets, muun and phoenix )
Can you please clarify what desktop wallet you used exactly for lightning transactions, since Muun and Phoenix are both mobile only wallets?
Maybe it's possible to install them on computer using some Android emulator, but that is not exactly what you would call a desktop wallet.

2510  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Doing some work for Saxydev, Earned $90 but Never received the Payment.  on: March 03, 2023, 02:57:09 PM
but you still haven't provided any valid proof of payment, neither publicly nor in a private message to a trusted DT member.
You can clearly see this guy has some kind of mental illness that creates a lot of vulgar insults, lies and stupid posts, so I think it's time for moderators to react and clean the junk.
This clown turned everything into circus show with his recent posts, fake scam accusations, personal insults and he didn't provide a single proof of payment.
2511  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Electrum Wallet + BitBox02 on: March 03, 2023, 02:40:43 PM
I would like to connect my Electrum wallet to a BitBox02 to be safer.
If I lose my BitBox in the future and the seeds from the BitBox as well, are my coins always gone on the Electrum Wallet?
Or can I just restore my Electrum wallet with the seeds and just connect a new BitBox to it?
With BitBox device you can connect their native Bitbox app, Electrum wallet, Sparrow wallet, etc.  but keys (seed) are never moved from secure element chip that is in BitBox device, and they are always offline.
If you lost your BitBox device, and you lost your seed backup that is written on paper or metal (that should always be kept separated), than you can't restore your coins anymore.
Be careful experimenting with keys and stuff like multisig setup.

The coins are still on the seed of the BitBox because Electrum only serves as an interface
Correct.
Unless you leak it yourself, send it to some suspicious website, or keep it in digital form on your computer... you should never do this.
2512  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Multisig Wallet 2 of 3 on: March 03, 2023, 02:28:30 PM
Do I only need the 3 seeds of the hardware wallet to restore the wallet, or do I also need the master public keys?
I don't know for all hardware wallets, but I know that for Blockstream Jade you need both recovery phrase and xpub to restore your wallet.
Ledger and Trezor are not great for multisig setup, or they didn't fully support it when I last checked, so I would be very careful whit devices you going to use.

To sign I would then need 2 of 3 of the HWW,
but to restore I need all 3 seeds right?
Or are 2 out of 3 enough to restore the wallet ?
Yes, with two keys you can spend keys, and there is no single point of failure, but you need to have all three to restore (unless you have xpub from the lost key).

Is it also possible to create a 2 of 3 multisig with the Bitcoin Core wallet?
I would generally not recommend doing this, unless you are already running Bitcoin node 24/7.
If not than you will have to wait for days for blockchain to download and wallet to sync, not ideal situation when you want to make multisig transaction,
2513  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Security feature will still work as intended? on: March 03, 2023, 02:11:24 PM
will the hardware wallet not feel concerned...
...crypto wallets aren't supposed to feel or have feelings.
You can import seed words from hot wallet to hardware wallet if you are stupid enough to do it... I don't see any good reason for that when you can just send coins to new address.
There is a reason why hardware wallets are more secure because keys are stored offline and they never gets exposed to internet, unless you leak them yourself.

PS
As for crypto wallet feelings and concerns... this is not a circus, so if you continue making comments and posts like this I will have to start reporting them to moderators and put you on my ignore list.
2514  Economy / Reputation / Re: 'Bitcointalk forum is going downhill because of dkbit98' - CoinPayCard.net SCAM on: March 02, 2023, 08:31:23 PM
I received partial card numbers in personal message from guy that was scammed by CoinPayCard and I did basic search to find more information about Bank and issuer.
Here is short initial summary I was able to found so far:

Issuer/Bank exact name is: Private Bank & Trust Co
This is actual company with address: 920 S Waukegan Rd Ste 100, Lake Forest, IL 60045
Phone number registered to Alan H Kohn: (847) 482-8100
Official websites theprivatebank.com and privatebankandtrust.com are down for me.

This is their page on Bloomberg website that confirms they are operating as bank:
https://www.bloomberg.com/profile/company/0799354D:US#xj4y7vzkg?leadSource=uverify%20wall

Stay tuned, I am digging to find more information and connections.
You are free to add anything you find yourself.

EDIT:
CoinPayCard account was online in forum on March 1st, so he is well aware of everything:

2515  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano X Battery Circus on: March 02, 2023, 08:14:19 PM
Whenever I think I heard everything I need to know about ledger nono X hardware wallet, something new pops up to show how bad this device is.
We all heard about  screen issues with older model S that is not manufactured anymore, but model X have their own design flows related with screen.
If you often open and move metallic part screen will be scratched a lot and hard to read like in this examples:

https://www.reddit.com/r/ledgerwallet/comments/11dy997/flaw_with_the_ledger_x_design/

My suggestion is first not to buy ledger X for reasons I wrote in this topic, but if you already purchased it than do not remove screen protective foil (if there is one).
It is also possible to remove the metal clip and bend the metal to reduce scratches but be careful while doing this.
I am sure ledger is well aware of this crap design, that is why they made corrections with model S plus.

2516  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Alby a legitimate extension for lightning network usage? on: March 02, 2023, 07:55:28 PM
Is anyone aware of the risks of this extension, or has pursued studies on its reliability and excluded the possibility of scams?
I never used Alby myself so I can't vouch for anything, but I know people who use it for many months without any issues.
Alby is open source so any developer can inspect code and see if there are any potential flaws or bugs, but I am excluding possibility of scam.
They are very active on social media so you can contact them with your concerns, they can provide you better explanations for your questions.
2517  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: My PC cannot detect my ledger through electrum. on: March 02, 2023, 07:34:07 PM
I don't want to try anything else without someone else's input here. Anyone else have had this problem before?
Thousands of people have many issues with ledger nono X, it's one of the worst hardware wallets in the world.
Most problems are coming from bad battery and firmware issues, but in your case I would first make to sure to have latest firmware update and Bitcoin app in ledger live.
Ledger recently released new update and they changed a bunch of things, app size increased again for some coins (surprise, surprise).
If everything is updated I would try connecting with some alternative software wallets that support ledger, for example Sparrow wallet.
2518  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Which best for long term investment? Hardware wallet or Software wallet . on: March 02, 2023, 07:21:53 PM
I don't have any money to buy hardware. So I suggest using a software wallet.  However, I have no idea which wallet to use will provide the most security. So tell me a bit about what is a strong and security complete wallet?
If you have money to buy smartphone than I don't understand how you can't have much less money for purchasing hardware wallet.
Software wallets can never be safer than good hardware wallets, except if you are using them correctly on airgapped laptop, that is very unlikely for people who don't have money.

Theoretically speaking, a hardware wallet has more attack vectors than a software wallet, however that entirely depends on how you intend to use it.
What?!  Cheesy
No, hardware wallets don't have more attack vectors, because their only purpose is to work with cryptocurrency transactions.
Software wallets are installed on multi-purpose devices like computers or smartphones that by definition have multiple time more attacks vectors than hardware wallets.
Not to mention all the risk with malware, viruses, keyloggers, internet connection, and bunch of other issues that don't exist on good hardware wallets.
2519  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do you know which Bitcoin wallets provides complete anonymity & privacy? on: March 02, 2023, 05:13:31 PM
Why use the second best wallet when the first one exists?
Roll Eyes
If you have the ability to fully read my previous message than you will see the reasons I stated why I recommended Sparrow wallet, in some areas it is better than Electrum wallet.
It is totally related to question Elevates asked about privacy, and I don't think further explanation is needed at all.
2520  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do you know which Bitcoin wallets provides complete anonymity & privacy? on: March 02, 2023, 03:44:24 PM
If you are concerned about privacy I would suggest to check open source desktop wallet called Sparrow.
This is probably second best Bitcoin wallet after Electrum, and it has support for Tor, Paynyms, Coinjoin with Whirlpool, support for hardware wallets, strong encryption, etc.
https://sparrowwallet.com/

For mobile wallet Unstoppable wallet is decent choice, it's open source, has Tor support and it respects privacy:
https://unstoppable.money/

Wallets that support Lightning Network and some second layer privacy solutions (Mercury Wallet) can also be consider good for privacy.
