3221  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][PRE-ICO]HoweyCoins: the only BitcoinTalk-endorsed ICO - GUARANTEED PROFIT on: July 28, 2018, 04:09:26 AM
I can't believe I just found this sweet opportunity to laugh my ass off.

Great project... much wow.

Anyone want to sell me their howeycoins with Paypal, you send first.

Edit: On a more serious note, did Theymos create this [ANN] and use the SEC's fake website as his way of trying to enlighten people.

Or was their some sort of request by the SEC to shed some light on this within the forum.

Either way nice to see some form of warning out there, unfortunately the 40 some pages show this may have gone over to many peoples heads.

What happens when you try and buy some of these amazing coins?
3222  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: How many watts will this PSU give me on 110v on: July 28, 2018, 03:04:07 AM
How many watts will this PSU give me on 110v.?

Based on how they describe it, the PSU will provide 1500W. Just remember on 110V, you will be pulling twice the amps compared to running on 220V

Each PSU is rated at 92% efficiency... soooo when you do the math:

750 * 2 = 1500 - 8% = 1380

I might be wrong but I think the efficiency calculation goes the other way.

1500/.92=1630

3226  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Solo mining with an Antminer - reduced power - just for fun on: July 24, 2018, 06:38:38 PM
It sounds like you haven't picked up the units yet?

If you truly are doing this just for fun, why not look into some usb miners, or an old s3 or something like that.
3227  Other / Meta / Re: Instructions on how to use BBCode on: July 24, 2018, 01:19:52 PM
Nicely laid out.

Would be good to include a link to the Forum help section that covers some of this. It will help people learn to navigate and realize the forum does have most of the resources they need.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=help;page=post#bbcref

This is found under the help tab, in the top left corner of the screen, then the posting section, finally under references SMF Bulletin Board Code

I did learn something new here though about making different list formats, and tables.
3228  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: PSU fan directions seem wrong on: July 23, 2018, 09:46:31 PM

The brick-style server PSU's all have fans on the end and AFAIK only the HP DP-series and Dell PSU's have the air coming out the fans. All Bitmain PSU's exhaust out the 12V output end as do the Soccerer's. Not the best idea for miners but then again the PSU's put out very little heat so is mostly a moot point.

Definitely not what I expected, just means I have some tinkering to do with my setup. I mostly don't like the fact that between the connector cables and the PSU position it was restricting airflow, as I tried to position it in a way that didn't exhaust right into the miner.

I might just keep them as spares and try picking up a couple more of the 2400-2880 PSU's.

Oh my god, yes. This annoys me so much.

My field is medicine. An important study came out a few days ago that shows that adrenaline, which is used as part of advanced life support algorithms, resulted in a significantly higher survival rate but no significant difference in the rate of favourable neurological outcome. This has been reported with the following headlines, neither of which are true:

These headlines are completely designed to bring in clicks and views at the expense of accuracy.

I think the worst part about how those stories are presented is the use of their quotes once you start reading the stories.

Quote
“Make no mistake, the results of this landmark trial will change the way people are treated if, unfortunately, their heart should stop,” said David Nunan, a senior researcher at the University of Oxford Centre for Evidence Based Medicine, who was not involved in the study. “Until now, everyone who’s been eligible to receive adrenaline would have been given it without question. That can no longer be the case.”

This quote pulled from the story that failed at math in the headline.

Not being medically trained myself, I would be inclined to dig deeper, but would start on google if I was unlucky enough to read the story that didn't link to the original article in the story as only 1 did.

If I had been lucky here's what I would have found... a basic conclusion written up based on the results (IMO showing the need for further testing for possible indicators for favorable/unfavorable outcomes). If I remember correctly that's how I was taught to do experiments/research in grade 4 or something for the good old science fair.

Just for kicks I did take a chance on google, like I would without a link to the source, and didn't get inundated by garbage yet this article was actually a well balanced interpretation IMO. It may be to recent but as soon as someone with an opinion will begin the spread, and there will be a rabbit hole of misinformaion to fall into.
3232  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: PSU fan directions seem wrong on: July 23, 2018, 05:29:28 AM

What PSU specifically are you using?

My PSUs all have exhaust fans. Typically exhausting upward from the fan out the top of the PSU. I would agree an intake fan would appear backwards.

I have one of each. I just tried the second one, to compare airflow direction.

Intake/forced air does seem weird, but I'll figure it out.

The APW3+ suck are in on the power plug side and exhaust on the power connector side.  So yeah, for most installations they vent hot air in the direction of the S9 intake fan.  Not a great design.

Thanks for clearing that up.
3233  Bitcoin / Mining support / PSU fan directions seem wrong on: July 23, 2018, 12:21:08 AM
For the first time I'm using 1600W psu's.

I have I a sorcerer from Canaan, and 1 APW3++

When I hook them up the fan starts drawing air in and exhausting where the output power cables are.

Maybe I'm wrong in this but that seems backwards, because they are essentially going to feed the psu exhaust to the miner, because of the cable length limitations.

If I'm right and both psu's are exhausting wrong, what could be the cause...besides having 2 with backward fans.

I am running them on a 220v circuit. I've ever run into this issue in that circuit with my 2400w psu's.
3234  Other / Meta / Re: account jenia1 hacked. I have locked it within 10 minutes. whats next? on: July 21, 2018, 02:42:16 PM
I can understand the reasoning. Might I suggest instead just buying the copper membership.

Despite not being against the forum rules, trying to buy accounts will get you red tagged by DT. This includes the new account should someone make the connection.

When anything comes up you can reference your locked account and continue to use the same signed message as  a link.

Good luck

This happened the first time I created the topic, but after messaging them this one has been allowed to stay in hardware until now.

I guess the moderators have changed their stance over the past few months. I can see why, now that the frenzy has died down, it was nice in the past knowing exactly when product was available.

Sorry to say but you stand very close to 0% chance of contacting them outside the forum.

For whatever reason there is a very long wait in recovering accounts that have been hacked. Best us to just sit back use this account until they reach you in the queue.
3238  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Where do you draw the line, Freedom of Speech/Misinformation on: July 20, 2018, 03:10:08 PM
How does 2009 BTC fit into the freedom.  The libertarian community along with silk road and satoshi dice were the only reason IMO bitcoin made it out of the basement dwelleing nerd domain!
Every system needs adopters, and if the system is presented openly and honestly(the system, not it's users) it is for society as a whole to decide it's place.

Imagine if groups of bankers, politicians and anti-gamblers etc had been able to stifle the free speech of those users, we may never have heard of BTC.  The model of free expression of value was completely against the "norm" of the time!  I personally found BTC from a fiat online poker forum I was into at the time, and after I figured out it wasn't the next internet scam (which was my first impression LOL) I was hooked.
We don't really have to imagine, a lot of the old time investors and large scale bankers, still spread the word of how BTC is failing and can never work. This is fine for them to do as an opinion , I'm just sick of opinion be passed on as fact.

My intro to BTC came in a way that definitely didn't convince me it had a future, but that was my fault for not researching. A few years later here I am, definitely understanding the hooked feeling

I admit that anti-vaccine, flat earth, chemtrail etc etc are vastly different that disruptive tech like BTC however the line must be such that legitimate innovation MUST NOT be stifled because illegitimate/agenda driven/trollingmotherfucking users are taking advantage of the situation.

I completely agree, again the more I speak here I realise my issue is more with how information is "branded". When it comes to tech or any innovation, I'm all for it. I just want to see it tested and presented in an honest way so that if there are consequences or side effects; people know and can make an informed decision.
I expect the same from any counter arguments as well, honestly these days I almost miss talking to old timey behind the tiimes racially insensitve persons of age, in my small town who would tell you it was just how they felt not try and convince you of made up facts surrounding superiority.

Is that their official title, I feel this may go off the rails shortly Wink

I completely agree with you, however, that you should be allowed to hold and voice whatever opinions you like, just don't expect anyone to take you seriously or even listen to you if your opinions are stupid.

I wish that still had some effect on people and the stranglehold their "feeling facts" had on them. People like the easy way out and that doesn't often include challenging long held beliefs. This does have effect on a small scale but seems ineffective at this point for large scale distributorsof half truths, and full lies.

3239  Other / Meta / Re: BanAppeal on: July 20, 2018, 01:16:21 AM
I checked your post history and it looks like you had zero to contribute to the forum; and were only here for bounties. So I'd be surprised if you were trying to help the community, as opposed to passing of the story as your own knowledge on a merit hunt or something.

If it was plagiarism, just move on because you the person are banned.

One thing I want to know, did the message you received tell you that plagiarism was the reason? Did it link the post?

3240  Other / Meta / Re: It's a struggle getting newbies to comment in basic information threads. on: July 19, 2018, 06:14:40 PM
I like that you are fishing for a good newbie. Unfortunately the pool of candidates is filled with old boots, tires, and the odd bloated corpse.

What is nice is that the patience paid off and you got a solid response from a low ranked member.

I'm not sure if the timeframe you waited is indicative of the more literate bounty hunters leaving, and the remaining are only the laziest and the bots. Unwilling to do some research and put in some effort, for the promise of reward.
