So, for the slower people here ( ie; me):

The smaller file:
First file inside is 7173063 bytes in size and has the SHA256 hash:
ec7c30a100717e60d8abe50eedb23641952847d91ff90b9b05a74ff98d8a4cf2  nxt-client-0.4.8 (2).zip

Is the correct client.

and the larger file:

The second file inside is 7177834 bytes in size and has the SHA256 hash:
948ce760c379f13f4ea9def6babaa36b0d706bf91098f1d64945fdde3eac5f06  nxt-client-0.4.8.zip

has probably had some sort of backdoor added to allow thievery?

Bastards, btw, if this is confirmed.

What about the nextern-holiday-fund? Is there someone organazing it so he can work on the client full time?
C'mon bitchizzz

I have asked several stakeholders to lead a fund-raising but they do not seem to be interested. I would suggest nextern to sell his full-feature client instead of making it free. That would give him quite a sum for his work.

Nxt won't succeed without a full functioning, user friendly client. I hope everyone is aware of this.
+100

If NXT is going to succeed, it needs mass adoption.
I've got some IT background, but I've had a steep learning curve to climb over the last 10 days just to get the client up and running.

There is no way that the average Facebook/email/Candycrush user is going to get into NXT if they have to write their own .bat files.
And without a mass adoption, NXT is never going to be any more than a really amazing ALT-currency, not the only currency.

In summary:
one-click client = NXT success.

@PaulyC :

Have u scanned yr PC for malware? Trojan/key logger looks like a very good possiblility at this moment.

And how is yr off-line security ? Anyone else have acess to yr PC?

2244  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 01, 2014, 06:57:29 PM
offline mining of all NXT accounts in parallel
problem gets worse the more NXT accounts there are
this attracts more hackers the more NXT is worth
This will create an equilibrium effect like a boat anchor to a hot air balloon. The more NXT succeeds, the more it will be hacked.

CfB, tell me there is a solution that is more effective than the user needs to not be unlucky

James

If they can do this with NXT why can't they do it with Bitcoin?

Need to have access to your wallet.dat file to attack it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but all account numbers and passwords are encoded into the NXT blockchain, and it is this that is being brute forced, if there really is an attack.
2245  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 01, 2014, 06:40:42 PM
Quick question on the theft issue:

If someone is just running a brute force attack on the whole NXT network attempting to hit the jackpot, wont this activity be very visible in the blockchain?
Way I see it, every password generated by the brute force attack will create an account.
Can anyone (with more skillz than me) have a look at the account creation (possibly vs IP address) stats and see if something wierd is showing up?

Thx for the block check, guys, I'm on the right line.

Hows the DDoS coming on, and do we need more nodes ?
Could maybe get another PC or 2 up and running if needed.

Otherwise I'll only be drinking champagne or something.....

2251  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: First time crypto investor: NXT or Earthcoin? on: December 31, 2013, 02:36:14 AM
And buy some Bitcoin, just as a backup.
Even .2 BTC could yield a few thousand dollar over the next couple of years.

There may be a day that NXT takes Bitcoin down, but that is not going to happen overnight.
2252  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 31, 2013, 02:32:53 AM
why is NXT prices on a decline? people don't like NXT?

or big stake holders selling them to increase market adaptation for official launch in 3 days time?

Dont worry too much, if u don't like the price now, a different one will come along very soon.
And in the long term, NXT needs to be spread aorund to everyone.

Just stay in: don't panic on the way down or sell your house to buy in on the way up.

It looks to me like the price is gonna stay aound the .00006 to .00007 for a while, some big walls up on both sell and buy.

2253  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: First time crypto investor: NXT or Earthcoin? on: December 31, 2013, 02:07:59 AM
i dont think earthcoin will be around long, its just like doge quick pump and dump then on to the next coin, but at least it has some value,

NXT is just one gigantic hustle, i just dont know how it works on people or keeps going.

And why do you think that ?
Not in search of an argument, just really curious why u think that way about NXT
2254  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: First time crypto investor: NXT or Earthcoin? on: December 31, 2013, 02:06:01 AM
Dont have any experience with Ripple, so no advice on that point.

My personal feeling is that Earthcoin doesnt bring very much to the table....another scrypt clone coin.
The only USP I can see is that the mining yield varies with the seasons of the year.
Sounds useful.  Huh

NXT is a whole different ball game....loads of interesting features (mostly vaporware ATM) on a unique Java platform with an amazing community behind it. I like it a lot more than Earthcoin, to say the least.

BUT: this is the wonderful world of crypto, anything can happen. So my advice to you is to spread the risk. Never go all-in on any one coin, but spread your money (and risk) around.

I'm 50% in Bitcoin, 25% NXT and the rest in PPC, XPM, Quark and so on. Even got 1000 DOGE, just in case.
2255  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 29, 2013, 02:51:02 AM
. So stop bitching and be thankful to be apart of this project.
These future  Sergey and Larry will make you very rich even though you don't know who they are.

This is my attitude and belief.  I play poker.  After a lot of research, I went all-in on NXT on Nov 19 for a 4M+ stake.  (Yes, it's money I can afford to lose, but it would certainly be a non-trivial loss).  I'm sitting on it until I see geosynchronous satellites out the window on the way to the moon.  Start the countdown.

As for me....I discovered NXT about 10 days ago,  bought in for .25 BTC last Sunday in the middle of a DDoS attack and DGEX overload.

I'm never going to get private jet levels of wealth out of this, but that doesn't matter.
I'm quite happy with what i expect to get out of NXT and am very bloody pleased to be in on this opportunity.

So, no bitching or begging from me, just gratitude. I've seen enough in the last week to know how bloody hard some people are working to make NXT a success.

Might be stupid...but what does cumulative represent?

Voted on Cryptsy.

@ Aldrin

Nice one, mate ! Its all I can say. Wish u all the best, thanks for this opportunity.

Sorry...got interrupted by a memory leaky crash followed by real life issues...but I'm back on.

Obviously, I'd be well happy to get more NXT, but I'm not being purely selfish here.

I'd happily give away 5% of my NXT holdings (thats about 250NXT right now) to assure an insane publicity circus around the NXT launch.

Because I know that my NXT are only worth what people are willing to pay.....no buyers, no ride to the moon. Boo hoo....

Investing is sometimes like fishing, u have to scatter some bait out and then watch the fish come 2 u.

Distribution of NXT among the original 71 vs the rest of us, and the effects this will have on forging revenues for the "little guys" is one of the main points that NXT critics can use against NXT, and I kind of see their point.

If enough people see NXT as a scam coin used by an elite inner circle to get rich, that could play hard against NXT, no matter how good it is or how pure the motives of the initial stakeholders are.

The only solution: give all of the NXT to me, I'll take good care of it..... Roll Eyes

But seriously: I propose some sort of massive giveaway to coincide with the Jan 3 launch.
From what I can see on the blockchain explorer there are only 5000 or so active accounts (seems low, tbh).
Give every account 10,000 NXT, that'll cost 50 million NXT, 5% of the total, and will generate the most publicity ever for a crypto launch.

(imagine the headlines: Crypto-anarchists give away millions! )
And imagine the tsunami rush of new users hoping to get a piece of the action.......ready to buy in hard. Everyone will go to the moon......
