2201  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 06, 2014, 01:40:49 PM
Just managed to connect via TOR.
wtf?

So it looks like my IP is blocked by DGEX.
2202  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 06, 2014, 01:30:13 PM
I can't get any access to DGEX for the last 5 hours (18 hours since my last login)
Not even getting a start page, just server not responding.
Tried clearing browser caches, tried Firefox and IE, XP and 7, but nothing
Can get to the login page via my mobile, so I know they are up, but the site isn't exactly optimised for phone use.

Anyone else with the same problem and/or possible solutions?
Does the new security algo block certain IPs or browser/OS versions?

ping dgex.com , which IP do you see?

46.28.204.90

no reply, total packet loss.

@mcjavr & timmyd :   Like i said, I know other people can get on, but I can't, except via mobile.
Feels like my IP is blocked, but.....why?
2203  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 06, 2014, 01:26:38 PM
@ S3MKi:

Try restarting the Java applet and browser session.
If that doen't help, shut it all down again, replace yr current blocks.nxt and transactions.nxt with the backups (blocks.nxt.bak, transactions.nxt.bak), and start it all up again.

Which brings us to the final thing I want to discuss - what is the group feeling on what we should do about EpicThomas in light of the fact that the 300K NXT in the bandit accounts is increasingly looking like darkNXT that he never really had his hands on.   EpicThomas commited a crime, period.  Is paying almost 48K NXT in restitution enough to where we just pillory him verbally in the forum and send him on his way in shame?  Or do you want to go for blood and have me file something officially with the FBI?

Good job, Ricky!

On the darkNXT, it seems to be impossible to tell the difference between a darkNXT account (ie, funds but no passphrase set) from a NXT account that has recieved funds but not made any transfers out. Correct me if i'm wrong, by all means.

Is it a good idea to set up some sort of monitoring on the ET accounts with the stolen funds ?
So if it turns out that ET (or someone else) has access to the 300k and attempts to transfer out, someone will get an alert?
2206  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ask it BCnext yourself... on: January 06, 2014, 11:52:03 AM
Voted for 7 + 10: scam accusations + 5 things to help NXT

And I am curious about the whole BCNext/CfB relationship. Can we have that as the bonus question?

I'd take the horse-sized duck with 50 litres of orange sauce.....mmmmmm..... eet smakelijk, jongens! (Eat well, boys)

Not a BCNext question...

Can anyone get onto DGEX at the moment ?

Well I think Graviton/DGEX didn't do everything bad, he worked hard and helped the community but with the fees he will shoot himself in the foot.
Thanks. I'm still helping it. And when I have time I need to patch my bleeding foot and be more humble again.

I have not seen anybody actually do this. I am on Mac OSX 10.6.8 which does not run the required java so I cannot run the NRS until I get back home on Wed. Can someone do this and confirm whether these accts stolen funds have a key or not?

I did it locally back when they first were reported.  They didn't have public keys assigned then.

The list from the rickyjames post https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=345619.msg4321533;topicseen#msg4321533 returns:

http://localhost:7874/nxt?requestType=getAccountPublicKey&account=13643712185318669838
{}

http://localhost:7874/nxt?requestType=getAccountPublicKey&account=15182566201738727933
{}

http://localhost:7874/nxt?requestType=getAccountPublicKey&account=16204974692852323982
{}

http://localhost:7874/nxt?requestType=getAccountPublicKey&account=9793828175536096502
{}

http://localhost:7874/nxt?requestType=getAccountPublicKey&account=12152013998194592943
{}

http://localhost:7874/nxt?requestType=getAccountPublicKey&account=16204974692852323982
{}

All haven't had transactions out yet.  Doesn't mean the're necessarily darkNXT, though.

BTW, if you need to check, you can use a public node:
http://node1.nxtbase.com:7874/nxt?requestType=getAccountPublicKey&account=13643712185318669838

for example.

Just checking this myself, but xyzzyx beat me to posting it.

I can confirm that all of these accounts return no public string:

For the record, the lost/stolen NXT is here:

13643712185318669838  contains 100088 NXT taken from Framewood's   697109629372813510
15182566201738727933  contains 18665 NXT taken from plasticAiredale's    8439060069775407509
16204974692852323982  contains 7808  NXT taken from PaulyC's  16821029889165561706
9793828175536096502   contains 18197 NXT taken from newcn's   16886318053889080545
12152013998194592943  contains  147690 NXT  taken from sparta_cuss's  11794318797680953099

Note that

16204974692852323982  also contains 1155  NXT moved from four other accounts

and just to check, I ran my account and a couple of other sig accounts, all returned nice fat public keys.

Looks like ET is an unlucky thief.....
2211  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 05, 2014, 05:22:00 PM

Ricky can you. track down drexme as well?  He absconded with the nextcoin donation acct with 33k nxt in it

What the heck, I don't have enough time to do all the other stuff I gotta do, so sure, I'll take him on later next week.  One crusade at a time.   Grin

My feeling is that we MUST verify if destination accts are darkNXT or not. If not, when were the keys for those accts created. Key forensic info, yes?

If the stolen NXT turn out to be darkNXT, then EpicThomas is just the worlds most unlucky hacker/thief, but if they are in activated accounts then Marshal Ricky has probably got more work to do: either setting the Federales on ET or tracking down some more badguys to round up.

And if the earlier thefts/incidents (ie from before ET set up the poisoned client) turn out to be darkNXT'ed and not stolen, we only have a bug to deal with, not an unknown exploit with someone siphoning account funds.

@rickyjames: good work, mate. Love the accent, btw.

The first post of this thread should be updated with latest version 0.5.0 of the NXT Client Software released today.

Just updated to 5.0, my not very technical impression of the client is that it seems a lot smoother and faster, used the old blockchain from 4.9e (which I haven't had to throw away and reload since 4.8 ) and it loaded very quickly.

Good job, guys.

Block check (tho' i'm beginning to think we don't need to do this anymore):

Do lots of research.
Look at the price per coin, not just market cap.
Buy on the fall, sell on the rise.
Avoid PoW coins with a big pre-mine.
Look for coins with a serious community behind them. Forum with 10 threads is a bad sign.....

And:

Don't panic......
2217  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Nxt source code analysis (QA) on: January 04, 2014, 01:11:31 AM
For us common folks, what does this mean in plan english?  Grin

in plain english... the code has not been tested exhaustively.

So its like flying an airplane that hasn't been tested to fly.

That coders/devs are like cats...one on it's own is fine, but the chances of a massive fight increase exponentially with the number of coders (or cats) in the same space.

Is it possible for a coder to look at someone elses code and not start criticizing?

Keep it up, guys,  u're doing good work, even the trolls are useful to provide some extra motivation.

2218  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 04, 2014, 12:29:13 AM
Source code is getting positive feedback all over, no real interesting problems found so far.

Would you mind providing some links to the positive feedback?

It's commendable the he/they kept the promise by releasing the source code, but the code is a miracle, meaning it's a miracle it actually works  Cheesy

Take it you've already gone thru the bug thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=397183.0 ?

So far, nothing exciting, even the trolls are having a hard time finding fault....

Somehere in that thread is a summary of positive feedback, can't be arsed looking for it right now.
