We *absolutely* have to have speakers and stands at this event. Preferrably with business cards, brochures and NXT clothing.
I think a stand cost like 2000 euros to have ?

I am willing to help, as i am in the neighborhood!! Any other persons interested?

That's far enough in the future for me to arrange days off work. Smiley
I can be there.

I'm up for it.
I could arrange for promo material (Cards, brochures, T-shirts etc) to be printed up locally.
Let's move this over to the nextcoin thread to get the details worked out.

I would much prefer a grassroots kind of marketing.
If Nxt gets tied to a "movement" it will *certainly* backfire.

Let them find out from the fact that individuals are adopting it en masse.  Smiley

+1000...etc.

Maybe we should change C-f-B's nick to Comes-from-Below.

Let the mass-market press come to us, when they start to wonder what all the buzz is about.

I hate to be modest, but here's a quote from some unsung genius on page 996 :

I predict that NXT is about to roll on up like we wont believe.....the number of newguys is ramping up, and I get the feeling that the wider crypto-community is slowly realising that NXT is not the most scam coin out there.

I love it when a plan comes together........

Subtle hint: All donations gratefully accepted from now on, btw, can't afford to buy NXT any more

2145  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NXT vs Bitcoin, Litecoin, Peercoin and Quark on: January 18, 2014, 08:10:39 PM

NXT has a block chain that is a month old that does not require energy or resources to create.   Anybody can create a new NXT and issue themselves a billion coins.

So even though I have taken over development of the coin,  there is no way I could regenerate all the coins created in the block chain.   It is there for all eternity.

Contrast NXT, if someone forks the coin,  he can issue himself 1 billion coins,  claim a fair distribution and NXT would have a direct competitor.  There is no barrier of entry.

Most alt-coins, the barrier of entry of creating a new one is very low.  However,  to create a coin with 5 peta hashes of network... that is extremely difficult.

Not in the business of knocking ixCoin (shit, I own 200, and it seems like a solid, stable crypto), but just to point out the flaw in FCs reasoning here: If u simply clone NXT, u end up with a billion coins but no community backup, no further development efforts.

The barrier of entry is to making a direct competitor is the accumulation of skills, marketing ability, money and commitment that the NXT core community represents.

(And, btw, i am so not a big NXT stakeholder. Not in the initial distro, bought all I can afford since Xmas, which is around 10,000 NXT at the moment)
2146  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NXT vs Bitcoin, Litecoin, Peercoin and Quark on: January 18, 2014, 02:36:56 PM
Lets face it, guys, NXT is winning.
Trolls are either too dumb to figure it out or they are slowly realizing that they are, in fact, on the losing side.

@HinnomTX; Love the mine DOGE/buy NXT strategy, btw, full of win in a very strange way.
2147  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A new way to scam newbies on: January 17, 2014, 07:18:58 PM
you don't need a proof for suspicions

Right. But I do need a proof to post them publicly.
There are not a lot of projects which insist on DAC so I think every body know which one you mean.

But maybe you can elaborate on the reasons whith make looks this project suspicious to you?

(Btw I am suspicious that you are spreading FUD about a competiting project to yours for the only reason that it's a competiting project to yours. Coincidentally, your project looks very suspicious to me. But since I don't have proof, I will not tell the name of that project. Do you think I should make a thread to warn newbie though?)

Its not so much FUD, but is in C-f-B's best interests to warn people against DAC scams.
Part of the project where C-f-B is working on, relies heavily on the DAC concept, and if there is a wave of DAC-related scams, that will harm legitimate projects.

Hoi, dudes:

(Ben Engels, dus excuses vooraf voor mijn NLands)

De voorpagina van Het Parool vandaag is erg Bitcoin-gerelateerd, maar niet bepaald in een goed manier:

http://www.parool.nl/parool/nl/7/MISDAAD/article/detail/3579093/2014/01/17/Amsterdamse-recherche-bestelt-een-pistoolmitrailleur-met-bitcoins.dhtml

The linkje boven is naar de web artikel, maar het staat als voorpagina kopstuk in de papieren versie.

Geniet ervan.......

Yes, mining is really 2000 and late. Forging FTW! It's unbelievable how much electricity we burn at this time for generating coins. I hope this will end as soon as possible.

+ lots.

On the marketing side, we do need to play on how efficient and eco-friendly NXT is, in comparison to certain other cryptos that seem to want to eat all the electricity.

I have an idea for both PR, the unclaimed coins and being green :

Figure out how much energy the NXT network uses, then set up a carbon-offset project using some of the unclaimed coins.
NXT becomes the worlds first carbon-neutral, tree loving, planet-saving crypto.

If any one has the time to pick this up and run with it, feel free.
2150  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 16, 2014, 11:37:20 PM

6 months down the line from now, general advertising may bring us big gains, but if we go all-out now, we will just get a lot of pissed-off people who can't get the tech to work reliably and they will probably not be telling all their friends to go out and buy some NXT.

nobody says to go up now.. 6 months is a good time to get prepared

BUT - Bitcoin is famous because it was first. So if there will be any other PoS / fork with huge marketing asset, they will be the first because of the media attention

Salsacz, dont get me wrong, mate, I think u (and the rest of the PR guys) are doing a brilliant job. Keep on going...
But I don't want us to do a DeLorean and bring something brilliant, but not exactly finished, into the spotlight.
If NXT (or any competitor) goes large too soon and things go wrong because the tech is not quite ready, there will not be a second chance to get it right.

NXT is in a good position right now, and I think that one of the few ways it can go badly wrong is if we try to force it to grow too quickly.
2151  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 16, 2014, 11:27:25 PM
@loopgate88: One option would be to buy BTC at MTGOX.COM and send the BTC to DGEX.COM and buy NXT. If you have no verified account at MTGOX it will take a looong time after you'll be able to withdrawal your BTC to DGEX. Maybe someone will sell NXT one on one through PayPal or something.

Personal sale will probably be fastest, getting BTC out of MtGox and onto DGEX will be at least 24 hours, on a good day. Could easily be 2 or 3 days if yr unlucky.
2152  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 16, 2014, 11:19:46 PM
wtf, why the fucking price is continual falling?
Everyone buy NXT, there are everyday tousends of new accounts and everyone speak about the coin, but the price is falling?
WHY?Huh

This is amazingly good news. New interest + new accounts + lots of excitement + falling price = big stake holders are selling. This is crucial for the long term health of the network.

+1

So: i've just plowed thru the last 30 pages in one sitting, and now my eyeballs are bleeding.
Trolls, lunatics, confused noobs, scam artists, videogame sales, massive debates about advertising, a call for a new Messiah to lead us and , on top of it all, a new client to install.    One day of NXT.....

I predict that NXT is about to roll on up like we wont believe.....the number of newguys is ramping up, and I get the feeling that the wider crypto-community is slowly realising that NXT is not the most scam coin out there.

Which brings me to my 2 cents on marketing vs advertising.  And a quote:

We need to spend all 9Mil on development, we build something so good that people will spread the word organically.

+1000 this

And another quote: "Build it and they will come...."

We need good, solid tech that works for everyone in place before we start advertising/marketing to Joe Public.
Right now JP has a vague idea of Bitcoins existence, but will never even consider buying NXT right now, no matter how much we advertise.  NXTs current target audience has to be the crypto-community and tech-savvy early adopters, and these people can be reached thru the grass-roots marketing approach that is bringing people in right now.

6 months down the line from now, general advertising may bring us big gains, but if we go all-out now, we will just get a lot of pissed-off people who can't get the tech to work reliably and they will probably not be telling all their friends to go out and buy some NXT.

And one tiny little point: apart from buying Battlefield 4 keys, what can u spend yr NXT on right now?

Look down.....

Quote
NXT's single vision is decentralization and community involvement, imho . If i am not wrong, I share this vision with BCNext and Cfb. So you plan to count on BCNext or Cfb to make decisions for you, I think you would be disappointed.

But if some points, this venture become too disarrayed and too fragmented that BCNext has to appear and decide everything then I will leave because because all my efforts have been fruitless. Up until that point, if you care about NXT, then giving up the habit of looking up for a leader and actually doing something. You yourself could actually shape the vision for NXT.

This project can not simultaneously break new ground in technology and social organization to this extent.  Each of those goals is gargantuan and to ask Nxt to accomplish both simultaneously is asking the impossible.  One, if not both, must fail.

Pessimist...... Grin

The tech is not a paradigm breaking leap into the unknown. As i see it, NXTs strength lies in the refinement and unification of existing tech
into one over-arching eco-system.

The social organisation side is, again, nothing new.....u ever tried to get a bunch of anarchists organised ? I have....

Quote from: bitcoinrocks
Someone (BCNext?, CfB?) needs to step up and unify this project under a single vision.

Quote from: Come-from-Beyond
Both refuse to do so. Sorry guys.

Is there anyone else with real authority over the code?  Jean-Paul?  (Or was it Jean-Luc?)  Nxt needs this.

No gods, no kings, just NXT

Hello, Dutch guy....

Yeah, it's definitely bed time here in the CET zone....

Just installed 5.7 to my home PCs, in conjunction with the Java 7 update 51.
Seems to work, no obvious issues. Feels faster and smoother, so a thumbs-up to Jean-Luc.

Gonna upgrade VPS later on today.....engaging sleep drive!

Just remember your Secret passphrase please.

+10....yep!

Remember: your passphrase is your account.
No wallet, no backup.  Passphrase gone = NXT gone.

So make sure u write yr passphrase down on a little piece of paper, or in the back of the most boring book u own.
Or embed it in some other text (or whatever) document, or get a tattoo.....

Just don't lose it.

@ Pin:

figured it out on the VPS, I'm paying for I/O requests.
Here is my billing to date:

EBS
$0.00 for the first 2 million I/O requests under monthly free tier           2,000,000 IOs    $0.00
$0.00 per GB-month of provisioned storage under monthly free tier    5.484 GB-Mo    $0.00
$0.10 per 1 million I/O requests                                                   1,343,218 IOs    $0.13
Total:            $0.13
Region Total:    $0.13

+  3 dollarcents tax, brings me to a total of $0.16. The swine....

Hey, NXT peeps.

First question :

Just about to upgrade my home PCs and maybe VPS to 5.7.

Got prompted by Java for an upgrade to  Java 7 update 51....anyone had any issues with this Java version and the newest NRS ?

Second question:

Running a basic Amazon VPS on the almost free plan for a few days now. Just started to get into being billed, it's now costing me around 7 or 8 dollarcents per day.
What sort of costs are other guys/girls/humanoids with Amazon (or other) VPSes seeing ?

I'll put up a thread on nxtcrypto to save wear and tear on this thread......

I have the same as you I think, windows 2008 server free EC2 on amazone.

Till now its free, I wonder why you have to pay?
Edit: yep, its the EC2...
I got about 4 or 5 days of free, then started to get costs.
Have u checked your billing lately ?

I'm good with 7 or 8 cents per day, its about one decent cup of coffee per month.
Might have a look later on, see if I can figure out what i'm paying for....

Nxtcrypto thread about VPS costs:
https://forums.nxtcrypto.org/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=591

Please use it, could be useful information for the community as a whole.

2160  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 13, 2014, 06:16:52 PM
Don't sell NXTs so cheap and in big amounts because you only help speculators kill Nxt rate on DGEX. Seriously, not when bitcoin is falling. This is the best way to damage community because noone will invest in it since rate can't recover. Even big stock holders aren't damaging it so much like you this way. I don't see any strategy here no HOLD action to help Nxt rate and create demand boosting community growth. When someone leaves dgex he want go back soon. Even if someone don't like dgex it will still affect price of Nxt on any other exchange in future. Kill it and u'll kill Nxt.
If community can break only because there's no "to da moon!" action... Do we really need such kind of "community"?

I agree. My new policy is to add anyone complaining about short term price movements, or market manipulation to my ignore list. I encourage others to do the same.

NXT will succeed because of its features and applications that take advantage of them, not because of price stability in the first 4 months of its existence.

+1 to IveBeenBit.

To Ebrelus et al.....CfB is only selling off 10 BTC worth of unclaimed NXT to finance a bounty for an external audit.
He's selling @ 95% of DGEX price, to people who are serious about NXT and are happy to get a small discount.
Wish I had some BTC available, but i'm Mr Skint, dammit.

Stop the panic......
