2121  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 19, 2014, 09:24:34 PM
Well, I faced a moral dilemma and would like to ask for an advice...

FrictionlessCoin created a thread dedicated to NEX (descendant of NXT). I had a lot of fun reading that thread but I suspect some people took NEX seriously. The problem is that if FC waits till April when Nxt source code becomes completely open, he still won't be able to generate a valid genesis block, coz Nxt uses a crypto algo modified by BCNext (this is why we collected 10 BTC for the audit). I support all cryptocurrencies and would like to help him to create a new genesis block, competition is good for the whole crypto-community. But this could look not very good to guys who own NXTs...

What would u do?

I reference ENIAC and University of Pennsylvania somewhere in the 50's. University of Pennsylvania could be what M.I.T. is today. They are not because they refused to release any intellectual property related to ENIAC. Their greediness lead them to a lot less than if they had grasped the concept of spreading the word. NXT is a technology and it won't be hidden forever. The ones who try to hold technology under pressure are the first to get blown away.

I believe giving FrictionlessCoin some Ritalin would be more appropriate.   Undecided

+1

Release the code, yes, actively help FC, no.
2122  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 19, 2014, 09:05:54 PM
let him figure it out himself.

Hehe, it's not easy even for a skilled cryptographer...

I'm all for fair competition, but FC hasn't exactly been playing fair.
If u come on board with NEX, that is going to confuse things a lot and give FC a serious boost, while damaging NXT.
Like it or not, u are seen as a pivotal figure in the development of NXT, and helping NEX will give a sort of "official" NXT clone status to NEX that it doesn't deserve.

FC wants to launch his own NXT-clone, fine, let him launch it on his own.

Edit: @ Damelon: posted some thoughts on the A'dam BTC conference on:

I'm tempted to say, let him burn.

BUT: if he makes a complete bollocks of NEX (which looks likely) there are gonna be a lot of disappointed people. And, right or wrong, some of that disappointment will reflect badly on NXT.

We certainly need to continue to spam his thread hard, to make it obvious to even the most brain-dead that they will probably end up with nothing. That is also a good marketing strategy, hassle the fake while promoting the genuine NXT. I don't like negative markting, but in FCs case I'll make an exception.

Or we could just hire a Byelorussian hitman from the unclaimed coins.....

2124  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT - Voting on the scope of authority of the funding committee on: January 19, 2014, 08:09:50 PM
Open bounty, volunteer commitee. If a whale wants to reward them somewhere down the line, fine, but it shouldn't be a case of "let me on the commitee, give me some of that lovely free NXT"
2125  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 19, 2014, 08:04:39 PM
OK, time to organise my semi-random thoughts and inflict them on the Nxt community.

First off:   +100 to Comes-on-Beyonce for financing salsacz in his marketing efforts out of his own pocket. Nice move.

On the marketing vs devs front: stop bitching each other up.
Devs need marketing, marketeers need product. Nxt needs both sides of the coin to be a success.

Nxt has come a long way on the strength of grass-roots marketing and community activism. This is (as I've said 106 times) Nxts greatest strength; the community support. We need to continue this effort, and help finance the guys who are making this happen.

I need to throw down a definition here: I'm going to define marketing as pretty much any action that helps to bring Nxt into the public eye, while I see advertising as being the use of (semi-) traditional media (TV, radio, print, web) to throw a message in the face of a mass audience of Joe Public (ie non-techie people).

I'm totally in favour of marketing right now to the more tech-savvy community (crypto-freaks, nerds/web users in general) but I feel that mass market advertising will be a complete waste of time and money and maybe even counter-productive.
If we get Joe Public to sign up to NXT and his/her first experience is a tricky set-up process (or losing funds) they will get the hell out of Nxt very quickly and warn other people to avoid us.

tl:dr: Marketing good, mass market advertising bad. (right now)
Marketing dudes should carry on with the current grass-roots activism, devs should make sure that we have a better and improved Nxt experience, for example one-click clients + account locking/security.

On the marketing front: I've just checked out FrictionlessCoins NEX bollocks, and the one overwhelming impression I get is that people will go mad for it if they can maybe get something for free.

I propose that we use some of the unclaimed coins for a big give-away action. Hand out big fistfuls of NXT to the people who have been supporting NXT over the last couple of months (maybe by weighting this thread contribution, to include me, of course) and then carry on with random give-aways to new Nxt'ers.

And one big give-away to a public figure/charity. All give aways will bring people in, rewarding the established community will give us a warm fuzzy feeling, and a big public figure/charity give away will get lots of coverage in mainstream news media without Nxt having to pay for advertising.

This brings me to voting: we need to get the voting system sorted out.
Which brings me to the complete f**king nightmare that this thread is becoming. We need to hive off debate threads to one of the other 2 forums, so that we can concentrate on one topic at hand, not all the topics all of the time.

Having said that, I'm off to the Nextcoin.org forum:

https://nextcoin.org/index.php/topic,2277.0.html

to see what we can do about the Amsterdam BTC conferences.

Bag of crisps.....possibly salt 'n' vinegar if I'm feeling generous.

I am so running out of facepalm here.....

But at least this thread has provided with a priceless insight into the sheer gullibility of some elements of the BitcoinTalk community.
I'm getting a mailing list together for the launch of EvilCoin.......watch this space, and get ready to go 2 da moooonnn!!!!

Hmmm, My serious GetVisaCoin announcement generates 3 pages in a week.

NEX announcement generates 6 pages after a couple of hours.

I need to do some work on my presentation Sad

My GetVisaCoin proposal included an option to ADD new people to the genesis block, so it is basically the NEX proposal with the scam deterrent, and compensation for the VisaCoin victims.

GetVisaCoin is better than NEX.

We have the option to ADD new people to the GetVisaCoin genesis block for free, but I think it's better to prevent sock puppet mining, so I vote for a modest payment to a trusted third party - as little as 0.001 bitcoins.

Every aspect of GetVisaCoin is open to change. Nothing is set.

If you are going to support a clone of NXT you should support GetVisaCoin.

Support your own communty!

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=409696.0

edit: And I have donated 5 bitcoins of my own funds to the cause of GetVisaCoin.

Dude:
I like yr effort on trying to sort out one of the nastier scams in crypto. +10, I might be wrong, but I get the feeling that u r fairly genuine.
Maybe all of the peeps who are looking for a real investment, not just a comedy troll fight between FrictCoin and the NXT posse, should get over to your thread and throw some love in your direction.

(And dont feel bad about the page count, it's content that counts)
2130  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] NEX :: descendant of NXT on: January 19, 2014, 02:32:34 AM
I'm out of crisps.  Cry

Can I get those for free, too?

2131  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] NEX :: descendant of NXT on: January 19, 2014, 02:31:31 AM
What about the distributing NEX based on ugliness? Big ugly, lots of NEX!

I'm gonna be rich!  Wooo hooo!

I'm gonna be richer, unless..........r u really a Klingon?
2132  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] NEX :: descendant of NXT on: January 19, 2014, 02:12:11 AM
I'd rather have a million ixCoin......please?

I think its really unfair that people who bought lots of ixCoin have more than me.
2133  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 19, 2014, 02:07:10 AM
Good luck with this. I purchased some NXTs in an exchange and tried to install the wallet. Talk about unintuitive. I sold them back. Maybe this will turn out alright for you all, but right now NXT makes Bitcoin seem user-friendly.

Hope u made some profit on them.
If u decide to get back in, just ask for some help on the install. It's not all that difficult, but it is a multi-step process:

Download client (5.8 at the moment), links at the start of the thread.
Remember to verify the SHA256 hash.....
Read this entire thread..... Roll Eyes

Install/update Java.
Install update yr anti-virus/malware and run a scan.

Run the NRS Java client from the command line  (tricky bit), .bat file useful here.

Connect to the local NRS Java process using yr browser : localhost:7874

Create a really, really, really secure passphrase. 30 characters or more.

Input that passphrase to creat an account.   Passphrase = account.  Do not lose it......

Enjoy!

Seems like a lot of work for a troll.....he might be better off just coming over to the dark side with us.

"We are the NXT. Lower your shields and surrender your Bitcoins. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. You will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile. "
2135  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] NEX :: descendant of NXT on: January 19, 2014, 01:39:40 AM
To any newbies or confused bystanders:

This thread is a troll directed against NXT, dont expect anything to actually happen that will make u richer.

But if u've got nothing better to do, grab some beer and chips, put yr feet up and watch the game......
2136  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] NEX :: descendant of NXT on: January 19, 2014, 01:26:20 AM
And I thought FC had more style than the average troll...this is sad,  Sad sad, and sadder.
2137  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 18, 2014, 11:00:29 PM
Errr...the hex string in question is just a big number in decimal: 3.39197779385E+27 is what it converts back to.
Might be possible that someone is running a bruteforce attack on all the numbers, but seeing that 3 accounts on the same PC were compromised at the same time, malware/trojan is a much more likely explanation.

Getting a feeling of deja-vu here, feels like the EpicThomas story again

Are there any trojans out there with the ability to read copy/pasted text ? Not very up to date with the magical world of malware.

......10 unknown accounts, don't like the idea of putting a lock mechanism into the code.
Unless the lock is actually a properly planned feature, we shouldn't finagle the code just for one-off situations.

Just changed my mind, after reading the above posts.
Implement the lock, and use it in cases like this.
Either it's a real hack, or someone trying to game the community. Result will be the same, no possibilty to get the NXT out into BTC or fiat.

And for fucks sake, stop using software to generate passwords.
Use yr brain, thats what it's there for.
2139  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 18, 2014, 10:43:21 PM
Gone quiet all of a sudden....

That was an interesting day, to say the least.

Good moment for my 2 cents worth:

Unclaimed 10 million NXT: like the idea of giving it to 10 unknown accounts, don't like the idea of putting a lock mechanism into the code.
Unless the lock is actually a properly planned feature, we shouldn't finagle the code just for one-off situations.
Be a good idea for the 10 accounts to submit their real-world identities to an trusted Nxt'er, such as Anon136 or rickyjames.

Destroying the 10 mill is such a bad idea, i could cry. (Just give it to me, I'll see how quickly I can burn thru it)

Amsterdam Bitcoin conferences: I'm up to help, maybe with getting promo material sorted out. We need to form a working group to get moving on this. Maybe even a real-world meet-up in the not-to-distant future.....no clowns allowed, tho'

Love the price at the moment, but keep looking to the long term, guys. NXT has not arrived yet, but we do have a very good start.

Onwards and upwards.
