Klee:

I'm fairly sure that u'll make it, bro. Just look at how far the price has already come, and that on a basis of dodgy clients, constant attacks of all kinds, hackers, trolls and not very much functionality.
When NXT gets into it's stride and more features get implemented, I think a dollar/NXT by the middle of this year is possible.

Get the beers in, warn Victorias Secret they will need some more models soon........we are going to the Maldives in style!

(I say we, because some lovely Nxt'er just dropped some more NXT on me. I love this community..... )
2102  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 20, 2014, 05:26:22 PM
I'm having problems typing right now, because I just checked my Nxt account.......

Whoever 17994440136003933734 is, they can come round to my house and shag my sister anytime they want. Might even throw in my girlfriend and a beer as well.

Thank you very, very much.

I get the impression that FC actually has some psychological issues. I definitely wouldn't want to spend much time in the same space....

It doesn't matter if FC has issues. He is useful and now is a part of Nxt promotion.

Yeah, i so love the irony of his situation: massive trolling efforts resulting in more publicity for the thing he is trolling.

Unless: maybe FC is actually BCNext, in full-on stress test mode.........
2104  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 20, 2014, 05:06:42 PM
Well, I faced a moral dilemma and would like to ask for an advice...

FrictionlessCoin created a thread dedicated to NEX (descendant of NXT). I had a lot of fun reading that thread but I suspect some people took NEX seriously. The problem is that if FC waits till April when Nxt source code becomes completely open, he still won't be able to generate a valid genesis block, coz Nxt uses a crypto algo modified by BCNext (this is why we collected 10 BTC for the audit). I support all cryptocurrencies and would like to help him to create a new genesis block, competition is good for the whole crypto-community. But this could look not very good to guys who own NXTs...

What would u do?

I would tell him that the only way for his coin to be truly fair, would be to make it free forever.  Otherwise, he's creating nothing new or fair.

I work for a non-profit and so work willingly for a small wage doing a job that could earn me loads of dosh.
That doesn't make it "unfair", it makes it my choice.

I find these cries of "unfair" so unbelievably naïve. I entered Nxt and couldn't buy a lot, because of said wage. So I decided to work, and it's paying off, because people here value work. I love that. Anyone who puts in hours and puts himself in the limelight can earn. I really believe FrictionlessCoin believes his story, though. That makes it a bit sad, because in the end he will still have to deal with the accusations of those who came later to the party.

The sad truth is that a lot people are out for a free lunch.

+10

I get the impression that FC actually has some psychological issues. I definitely wouldn't want to spend much time in the same space....

bla blah........is still a conference in May:
https://bitcoinfoundation.org/forum/index.php?/topic/652-bitcoin2014-l-may-15-17-l-amsterdam/

Of course, by then we may all be sitting in the Maldives, drinking beer served to us by supermodels.

I'm not the least bit surprised at this.
The worst part of it, is that they are still updating the site and are selling tickets.
So I would definitely call it a scam, because there is no way they will ever be able to book Science Park just a few months in advance.

Pity. Hopefully the bitcoinfoundation conference will turn out to be legit.

Having acquired over 10,000 Nxt now, I am willing to do a video conference from the Maledives, too, though.
Any whales reading this: give me and Damelon lots more NXT. We deserve it, tho' I think Damelon deserves it more:
http://www.nxtcoins.nl/

how many nxt does one have to have inorder to be a whale?

Good question......I'll say over the million. I reckon we are going to be looking at $1 / NXT very soon, so any one with 106 or more is gonna be a very happy cetacean.

Think its more incompetence/lack of interest than a scam. I'm fairly sure I've found the orgainser, and he's making no attempt to hide his ID.
Seems to be the same guy organising small-scale get togethers in Den Haag for the BTC community.
I'll keep on it, but I think that May is going to be our best bet, and like I say....Maldives!!

BTW: over 10.000? U complete bastard, I'm still at 9120 NXT........

Shit, I've only got 9,121 NXT. Can I still come ?

HONG KONG CONFERENCE IN JUNE SHOULD BE HIGH PRIORITY....HONG KONG IS THE GATEWAY TO CHINA.
detailed date ?

Hong Kong is Inside the Bitcoins series, if I remember well:

I am not sure if I should post to both of our threads (this + marketing), but what the hell, new list of conferences:

Conferences: Miami (January 25), London (21 January), Berlin (February 12/13), Texas (March 6), Amsterdam (March, May), New York (April 7/8), Canada (April 11/13), Washington (June 20/22), Hong Kong (June 24/25), Melbourne (July 10/11), London (September 10), Las Vegas (October 6/7)

edit: all conferences, articles and videos are in the OP of marketing thread. There is also a new conf in:
Shanghai (September)
well,salsacz , got it,thank you

Quick update on the Amsterdam 18-20th March conference:
http://www.bitcoinference.com/

I've had a chat with the guys at the venue, they have absolutely no confirmed booking for the conference yet.
Apparently it was originally scheduled for November 2013, but the booking was cancelled.

I sent a couple of mails to the addresses on the Bitcoinference website, but so far there is no reply at all.
So I just fired up my Google-fu skills and I think I've found the conference organiser, but he (and his organisation) seem to mostly be available via F*c*book, so I gave up on that approach.

I don't think the conference is a scam, but I do think that it is probably not going to happen or not be a very large scale event.
If i've heard nothing useful by the end of this week, I'm going to conclude that its not going to happen.

But, do not despair, fair Nxt'ers, because there is still a conference in May:
https://bitcoinfoundation.org/forum/index.php?/topic/652-bitcoin2014-l-may-15-17-l-amsterdam/

Has anyone experienced at least one error with 0.5.9? I mean, a real exception stack trace in the log, other than due to corrupted .nxt files on startup? I haven't even seen a single blockchain rescan in the last two days, only the occasional "generated incorrect block" message, so I don't know whether rescans still cause exceptions, or rescans don't happen anymore, or complete without errors?

It is getting boring, no bugs to fix... need to focus on the refactoring. And no, no new feature requests until I am done with it.

Running nodes is also getting boring. MY VPS is still on 5.7 and it's been up and rolling with no problems for the last 110 hours.
Known peers total is 1451.

Just upgraded my home node to 5.9 and that was very bloody easy, too. Only bug/problem I've seen is that NRS 5.9 still reports that :
" NRS 0.5.8 started successfully "

All I can say is: good job, J-L, keep it up.
2110  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 20, 2014, 01:02:39 PM
and it's just about to pass the 8000 mark on DGEX, with 261 BTC traded so far today...

I might be able to come to Amsterdam (18-20th March) as well. Will see.

The March conference in Amsterdam looks kind of sketchy...I'm going to check it out today, so don't book any tickets yet.
Heres the link to the Nextcoin.org promotion topic, updates will be here:

Asking for help.
My Nxt client 0.5.8 ran well last week, but yesterday I closed it abnormally (just close without using Control C.)
Now my balance is correct in Nxt Blockchain exploer, but shows 0 Nxt banlance in the client.

And I downloaded 0.5.9, still 0 banlance,
turn back to 0.4.8, still 0 banlance shows in the client.
Anybody can solve my problem? Many thanks!

Try go back to 5.8, (or 5.9) delete the transactions.nxt and block.nxt files.
Restart the Java client and allow it to re-build its local blockchain, then connect with yr browser.

I believe we need to clarify for some people that marketing is not advertising.
not only advertising

I posted about that a while back:

I need to throw down a definition here: I'm going to define marketing as pretty much any action that helps to bring Nxt into the public eye, while I see advertising as being the use of (semi-) traditional media (TV, radio, print, web) to throw a message in the face of a mass audience of Joe Public (ie non-techie people).

All advertising is a form of marketing, most marketing is not advertising.
2114  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 20, 2014, 01:17:05 AM
Can we at least wait until we have a completed White Paper and Open Source Client.  I feel like I'm taking crazy pills here!  I would like to have a nice brief article explaining Nxt, Features, POS, and then at the bottom, a download link for one of the Open Source Clients.  You can't throw arbitrary marketing ideas around and expect funding, be more specific.  We need to wait until we have a one click client, or we will lose people forever.

All happening in next week or two. Marketing takes time. Plan, preparing it, releasing it. 2 weeks is not very long time

James
China will be the first one of the biggest Nxt market with the more exchange platforms adding Nxt I am contacting recently.

+1 to allwelder,  China as market could be huge (a la Bitcoin). We are already seeing how Chinese access to NXT drove the price up over the last couple of days. AFAIK someone sold like 500 NXT at one point for 0.25 BTC.

I say: give the Chinese boys everything they ask for right now. Marketing/translations/localised clients.....whatever.

A quick idea to finish on:

We all know that the banhammer is coming down on Bitcoin (and other cryptos) very soon in China.

We also all know that NXT will soon have an integrated Asset Exchange, freeing us from needing to use 3rd party exchanges such as DGEX, BTER, etc, and that this feature will be very useful in the current Chinese environment. No exchanges, true peer-2-peer currency exchange.

The possibly crazy concept here is : will it be possible (or can it be implemented?) to exchange other cryptos such as Bitcoin thru the NXT asset exchange, or an add-on to the AE?

If NXT could become a backdoor into (or out of) China for all other cryptos, things could get very interesting.

And its morning in Beijing, I'm off to my bed.

2115  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 20, 2014, 12:27:52 AM
Mysterious.....

Anyhow, on to me:

I've had the 5.7 client up and running solidly on both my VPS and one home PC for the last 74 hours. No down time. Couple of incorrect block generation events that both nodes recovered from.
Jean-Luc....I could kiss u. Good work.

Now I have to upgrade to 5.9, any feedback/tips/whatever?

Last point:

There is a plan afoot to send some Nxt'ers to one of the upcoming Bitcoin conferences in Amsterdam:

https://nextcoin.org/index.php/topic,2277.0.html

to do lots of general NXT promotion.
Any help/feedabck/offers of funding gratefully recieved.
AND: if we do go to one or both of the conferences, there is a definite need for a seriously technical dude to help with presentations or Q&A sessions.    Volunteers....?

Why?  He's not been very helpful at all.

He did an awesome promotion of Nxt.

+1

...catching up slowly....

Got a link to this promotion?  All I've ever see him to is attack NXT.

Yeah, thats what he does best. But his semi-obsessive negativity/hate hard-on about NXT has the paradoxical result of bringing NXT to even more peoples attention....just look at the nex launch thread, the content is massively about NXT.

The only bad publicity is no publicity.

A very kind donator neer.g deposited 250k to the NxtMarketing account and joined Come-from-Beyond's 250.000 donated for NxtMarketing:

2037401990853753795

Big cudos to neer.g. It is the guy ho often anonymously awards people who "work" for the Nxt.

Friends, this is Nxt. Here, you don't have any boss, no government, here you are being paid by others, if they are satistied with your work or just want to support your efforts. Anyone can come here and chat, ask for help, but also do something, contribute, help others.

PS: he used me also as an "escrow", 10k will be sent directly to uniqueorn and 5k to me and pinarello, that's why he sent 270.000.

Αlso I thank to Come-from-Beyond!

Sweet, I love NXT sometimes....

Release the code, yes, actively help FC, no.

What about other copycats?

Haven't read the next 4 pages yet, so I could be completely out of date here:

I have no problem with someone taking the NXT source code and building something useful on top of it/modifying it/memeing it/whatever.

I do have a big problem with someone who is prepared to blatantly copy an entire project, stealing the entire thing and changing only one letter in the name, in order to satisfy a personal vendetta.

If u ( beloved C-f-B) do get involved with nex in any way, u could find yourself in a lose/lose situation:

nex succeeds: FC takes all the credit and the cash, the potential crypto-freak market for NXT is reduced, slowing growth and diluting NXT's market share.

or

nex fails: u get the blame because of your evil sabotage of FCs project.

U gotta make yr own decisions, but I wouldn't touch this with a very long stick.....
