i hold  my nxt on dgex.

As do I. They are probably safe enough on DGEX, but having to pay fees without warning is annoying when u're used to trading for free.
I don't mind the trading fee, btw, 0.17 % I can live with, but the withdrawal fees seem a bit out of order.

@Larue...I seem to recall that the guy running nxtchg threw his hands up in the air and quit earlier today.
Edited above line because he hadn't, nxtchg.com is still up.

2222  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 03, 2014, 11:58:56 PM

For those of us that are new.... I just set up my first NXT account today.  What happened with DGEX exactly?  Are they an untrustworthy exchange now?

Not so much untrustworthy, but they introduced fees very suddenly today with (afaik) no warning at all.
Been trading since the start without fees (except on fast withdrawal) but are now charging for trades and all withdrawals.

Fair enough, they gotta make money, but the timing could have been a lot better and it came as a big surprise to a lot of people, including me.
2223  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Nxt cryptocurrency meeting in Maledives, December 2014 on: January 03, 2014, 11:53:07 PM
If the price hit 0.x - 0.0x range I will own F@ckin Maledives!

Then you maybe could re-name them:

NXTives?

Beerdives?

Maldklees?
2224  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 03, 2014, 11:47:25 PM
Just caught up with the thread.....bloody hell, my head hurts.

That was an interesting day:

Bad stuff:
Disappointed by DGEX, confused by market, annoyed by trolls, people leaving NXT team, sold short into rising market, bought back just as the market fell, got punched in the nuts by one of my kids - still hurts........

Can someone just cut out the hassle and give me a huge pile of NXT so I can retire and not deal with this anymore?

Oh well, moan over.

Good stuff:

Market seems to be wobbly but stable so far.

Source code is getting positive feedback all over, no real interesting problems found so far.

Lots of new people showing up on the fora, means lots of new peeps coming into NXT.

Lots of attention for NXT

I'm going to say (cautiously) that today was, on balance, a success for NXT.

Onwards and upwards....

Looks like Frank won't be joining us.

I'll bring my own beer, tho, i"m running out of supermodels.

is the real name of EpicThomas already known?
I suggest, that he returns twice the NXT he stole within a week.
otherwise the police hitmen should take over.
bahah
if he's a relative nobody that'd cost very little, less than the $ amount he stole.
but meh
Highly doubt any law enforcement agency will give one fuck about this, even if it was 1mil usd. So any retribution will be via darknet tbh  Roll Eyes

&&&

Any one have the link to the script / instructions one guy posted here to create a vanity address?

He's from the Netherlands, isn't he?
Then the law wíll prosecute, probably.
If someone files a criminal complaint, and he's easy to get to, they will arrive on his doorstep fairly soon.

Vigilante action will only make this worse for ús, not for him.

Hope you're not thinking of me again.....

Does anyone actually have a clue as to ETs geographical location?

I know it's not you, remember Wink
Because you said "if he lives near Amsterdam" I assumed NL was his location.
I have no idea where he would live.

Ooops...I'm getting paranoid again.....it's been a long day.
I was hoping he was close by so I could go round to his house and express my irritation.
But, no, I don't have a clue.

Edit +1 to PaulyC, agree totally, amazing community response.

2229  Economy / Economics / Re: How and why Bitcoin will plummet in price on: January 03, 2014, 12:21:54 AM
He seems to have completely missed the point that Bitcoins utility and thus value lies in its use as a method of currency transfer.

As far as I can figure out, he sees Bitcoin as a simple commodity whose price in a competitive market will fall to cover the cost of manufacture + a small profit margin. Just like cars or toilet seats.

Miss the point much ?

(And he's got tenure, I don't bloody believe it.)

OOOh looks like we have a troll...please can I keep him?

Only if u promise to walk it every day,  teach it to spell and clean out its cage.

Heres my piece of advice for today:

Don't Panic!

NXT is having a problem right now, but it's not a very big problem, if you can step back and look at it objectively.

EpicThomas showed us how easy it is to release modified client software and exploit it to steal funds, but the NXT community jumped on it pretty quickly and came up with solutions, evidence, a suspect and froze the stolen funds out from the exchanges.  All inside a few hours of the 3rd or 4th theft report coming in.
Have any of the trolls/pessimists ever seen a faster response to a security issue in the crypto/IT world?

And then everyone affected got compensated.....unbelievable, but true. Salute to gbeirn, u r a hero.

Just to put this into proportion: total stolen was 300 kNXT, which is only 0.03 % of the total supply.
There were approximately 10-20 accounts compromised, which is at most 0.3 % of all NXT accounts.

And we should (almost) thank EpicThomas for making everyone raise their security game, it will now be much harder for an attacker to distribute compromised software again. That attack vector is closed right now. And is not a problem that only affects NXT, btw, all cryptos are vulnerable to this sort of exploit, so watch out for dodgy DOGE wallets in the future.

Time for a Nietsche mis-quote: "Whatever doesn't kill you, only makes u more money"

@EpicThomas:
You and your stolen NXT arent going anywhere. You can't convert it into fiat currency without going thru an exchange or the NXT blockchain.
Someone, sooner or later, will figure out who u are in the real world and come round to your house.
I suggest you take rickyjames up on his offer, give it back, and u can go on with yr life without looking over yr shoulder all day.

I hope the OPs momma comes home and catches him doing this shit.

What an arsehole.
2233  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 02, 2014, 04:03:18 PM
So to paraphrase EpicThomas:

U admit that u modifed and uploaded the client, but then some bad people took it over and stole the money.

Forgive me for not believing u very much.

I am still updating my originall post.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=345619.msg4269560#msg4269560

EvilDave is online so he is cleaning probably. After my research I will check all quoting links for the clients, can anyone help? Like to check pages 500-550...?

Not me, salsa, I'm an innocent bystander here.
Intel got EpicThomas and EvilDave mixed up for a moment in the heat of the fight.

So do we have any leads on the realworld ID and/or location of EpicThomas ?
I volunteer as part of a doorkicking crew if he's within a reasonable distance of Amsterdam.

@Damelon...thx for the quick correction, bro.
2236  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 02, 2014, 09:51:35 AM
EpicThomas <> EvilDave, sorry my error, just was confused by a screen where EpicThomas quotes the EvilDave message.

No problem, sent u a PM to say no hard feelings.

BTW, just need to say in public how impressed I am by the speedy and effective response of the NXT community to this issue. Good work, guys !

Onwards and upwards.....

Er...wtf?

Am i missing something?

I think you turned him into a newt, but he got better.

Hmmm...I'm mostly not that evil  Grin

And HappyCoins.nl actually are very good, low fees, fast delivery and u can pay using the Dutch iDeal system. I spit on PayPal.....

Still curious why my name is up in lights all of a sudden

According to your posts, you also actively "helped" people to understand how they got their funds stolen.

I would call you hacktroll!

One of your messages:
Quote
@PaulyC :

Have u scanned yr PC for malware? Trojan/key logger looks like a very good possiblility at this moment.

And how is yr off-line security ? Anyone else have acess to yr PC?

I don't see the problem, seems like a reasonable question.

Me not hacktroll, anyway.

I call u a silly person and wave my genitals in the face of your aunties....

I think its a case of mistaken identity as people are a bit excited and a little angry at the moment.  You should go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for all of this to blow over.

Good plan, tho' in my case i"d be better off going to bed. Which is where i"m going.....

Checked my SHA256 hash, luckily I got the good client from the nextcoin thread, pays to update late sometimes.

Quick check for the non-evil client is size: 7.173.063 bytes and u are good.

There is not so much information in the internet about evildave + bitcoin. I found something interesting, some evildave speaking dutch used the service "www.happycoins.nl" to buy bitcoins. He paid using paypal.

Here is the quote from his feedback (translated from dutch):

I am very satisfied with the services of Happy Coins, definitely recommended.
They are one of the few mogelikheiden to buy via PayPal, and my experience with a fairly large purchase Bitcoin Bitcoin their was just okay.

Only downside was that it took a little longer to get nearly 90 minutes, the Bitcoins on my wallet, but that was a very busy period.

So, it's worth to contact with happycoins.nl and get his data.
