What do I do about DGEX not honoring my withdrawal and keeping my BTC?

1st - do not troll to the general NXT thread
2nd  - contact DGEX, we have no "unhonored" withdrawals, a handful out of the tens of thousands are under investigation requiring input from customer.

Thank you

In what way is this trolling? I've been in touch with your support for more than a week and still no sign of my funds. Shame on you for taking 1.4% withdrawal fees and taking so long to process a simple Bitcoin transfer!

Elokane: this thread is intended as a central point for NXT development/marketing/whatever updates. It's not actually affiliated with DGEX in any official way. The Nextcoin.org forums are run by the DGEX crew and are a much better spot to get some attention from DGEX.

Damelon, Allwelder, Uniqueorn, VanBreuk, EvilDave

It's an honour, but I have 2 reasons to (almost) say no:

I've got a lot of real life commitments, NXT is eating up a lot of my free(ish) time.

I want to get a carbon-offset project set up, this will mean that I will want to have access to/control of quite a lot of NXT, and If i'm on the committee that decides to give me the money for my own pet project....hmmmm.

Having said all that, I'll accept a committee place if we really can't find anyone else willing to step up.

TL:DR:
EvilDave to the very bottom of the list, please.
1864  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: February 02, 2014, 04:10:57 PM
My very quick point before I go into stealth mode to work on the carbon-offset proposal:

Stop bloody ignoring each other !!

It's hard enough to communicate as it is, without important members of the NXT community turning their backs on each other.
It's a community, with a common goal, we need to get along with each other even if we disagree.

1865  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [NXT] Quick Poll for Conference Funding on: February 02, 2014, 04:05:59 PM
Yep, lets do it.
Conferences are an invaluable method of reaching the wider crypto/business community.
Right now, we need to make an impression within that community, the general public will follow later.
A professional presence at conferences is a very powerful tool, so spend the money.

1866  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: February 02, 2014, 01:31:35 PM
Salsa, Pin, could u both stop these insults?
+ 10

We are all on the same side.

I think that one of the problems here is that people are very willing to talk the talk, but not so quick to get off their asses and walk the walk.

We need people for Berlin, now.

So, if anyone can commit to helping on the Berlin conference, get in touch, form a working group and start making some decisions.....
Even if u get it slightly wrong, it's better than missing the opportunity.
1867  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: February 02, 2014, 01:21:51 PM
There is a lot of talk about the NXT "IPO".

Lot of others projecst are currently under the process of doing one, like EMunie or Ethereum. And they have some trouble with it (legal) .
I think we should change this term to avoid confusion with those project.
Those project are real IPO, where you have to pay a certain price/coin. With Emunie or Ethereum, the coins are already valued at the IPO stage.

NXT was not an IPO. It was a repartition.
21 bitcoins were raised but it would have worked the same way if it was 0.021 bitcoins. One billion NXT would have been created and distributed too.
1 NXT didn't have value at this stage.

So to break away from those other project and to avoid confusion.
I think we should use another term.
I propose "IPR" for Inital Public Repartition

What do you think about the idea and feel free to make your own proposal Smiley

+1, good bit of semantics.

Initial Public Distribution also works for me...
1868  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] NEX :: Nxt Reimagined - Industrial Strength - Imagine Fairness! on: February 02, 2014, 01:17:53 PM
Interesting use of the word "demand"

Anyone apart from the FCs and freshly created, no activity accounts want to weigh in on the demand for nex?

Come on, lets see that demand, kids.
1869  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt marketing & promotion :: Nxt now on Cryptmarket! [articles bounties] on: February 02, 2014, 01:13:43 PM
I don't think it's a good idea to use the cheap "sex appeal" sells strategy.
It's a cheap marketing plot that really don't bring attention to NXT as something other than "something associated with girls".

I think we should focus on donating to things that actually matter: wikileaks, snowden, fighting climate change, biotech research, hightech stuff.
Let's try to brand NXT as the futuristic cryptocurrency.

Also: I am not saying we can't use any of those "cheap marketing schemes", but let's not prioritize it over the important ones.
Having random hotgirls with a NXT logo tweeting about it certainly gets the logo out there in the zeitgeist, but you run the risk of being labelled as yet another altcoin joke

+1
Don't get me wrong, I like hot naked chicks, but it's not the best marketing for NXT. Don't forget that half the world has boobies and isn't that interested in seeing more.
Using sex-appeal in marketing is so 1960's, NXT needs to be 2060's.....

On the climate-change/carbon-offset/charity front, I've got a great proposal in the pipeline that won't cost a fortune, but will both do some good in the world and get NXT some really unique, high-profile publicity.  Stay tuned for further info, I should be able to post a working plan later on today.

(great proposal, I'm so modest  Grin )

How did u find this thread, possible sock puppet dude?

The genesis account passphrase was spectacularly weak, although long.

The opening line of 1984 ?
I'm surprised it wasn't cracked in December, TBH.

So, there's no real surprise here, DoctorEvil has simply highlighted a known issue. Password security needs to be ramped up, either by making users choose better passphrases or by beefing up password security in the client. or both...

So stop waving your arms around and claiming that the sky is falling, FC.
1872  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: February 02, 2014, 12:42:07 PM
Lets do it all:

Marketing, community and charity giveaways, carbon-offset.
1873  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: February 02, 2014, 12:35:49 PM
Frankly, we should be using the 10 mil for as many required expenses as possible. Isn't there some uncertainty of what will happen to those unclaimed funds if a consensus hasn't been met by the community by april, (says CfB?) So why dont we just come to agreement one bit at a time and see whats left when april or whenever comes.

On the 3rd of April I'll send the unclaimed coins to the genesis block. U should come to a consensus by that time, if u need this money.

Let me say "NO" very loudly.  NO!
Burning a very big pile of money is not a good idea. I will cry.....

I would like to see the unclaimed coins used for something useful, so my first 3 ideas are:

(selfish idea)
Distribute the coins into the NXT community. There are lots of guys, like me ,who have given NXT a lot of support over the last couple of months but are not exactly NXT-rich.  10 mill could make a lot of NXTers very happy. Especially me.....

(non-selfish idea)
Give it to charity. Just think of the publicity....crypto-anarchists give away a million dollars!

(good for the future idea)
My personal favourite: Get the remainder of the unclaimed coins forging, and use that forging income to help fund a carbon-offset program to make NXT very, very green. Again, much publicity, much love!

I'm going to do some more thinking about the carbon-offset idea today, so don't debate it yet.
I've posted some very rough numbers last night, and I should be able to have a fairly complete proposal in a couple of days.
Could someone give me estimates of the forging income from 10 megaNXT, both now and in a years time?

EDIT: And, yeah, I'm in favor of releasing 0.25 megaNXT for the Feb marketing.

1874  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: February 02, 2014, 02:42:57 AM

This donation was around 0.07% of TwinWinNerD's current stake in NXT.  That's about one NXT coin out of every thousand.   If EVERY NXTer donated one out of every thousand coins in their stake, no matter how big or how small, IT WOULD MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE IN THE MONTHS TO COME.

Please think about it, then please do it.

ED:cut for brevity

Ricky: u blackmailing swine.
I've sent 30NXT to the community fund, (tx id 11497794773844040352, my account nr below)
This represents roughly one NXT per 500 in my holdings. I'm going to miss them.....

I hope they'll be happy  Cry
1875  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: February 02, 2014, 02:33:33 AM
I have received....

Fully automated crypto gateways. Once we get the first one, it will be a relatively simple matter to add new ones by popping in a new low level to deal with the blockchain of the new crypto. All the other cryptos will be priced relative to NXT. this is part of what makes BTC so strong, all other cryptos go through it. BTC is the current reserve currency of the crypto world. Maybe not for long?

Imagine being able to do actual blockchain to blockchain exchanges of ALL other cryptos from within NXT Asset Exchange!! I am making an executive decision and fully authorizing 100000 NXT for this bounty. After the first one is done, maybe a much smaller bounty for each additional crypto added.

ED:cut stuff for brevity.

+10 to James
Just put me down as agreeing with pretty much everything above.

1876  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: February 02, 2014, 01:47:09 AM
I don't mind waiting...I'm just curious if anyone knows, in regards to NXTSolaris, if its like the PPC wallet...where you see incoming transactions that are still unconfirmed.

I know nothing about the Solaris client, but withdrawals from exchanges are notoriously slow.
A peer 2 peer NXt transaction will be almost instant, but your NXT are probably still safely queued at BTER.

Fun fact: the genesis account http://www.mynxt.info/blockexplorer/details.php?action=ac&ac=1739068987193023818 that credited all the original stakeholders used this passphrase:

Quote from: 1984 - George Orwell
It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen.

As I've pointed out in my first post https://nextcoin.org/index.php/topic,3608.msg34002.html

1.5% of NXT accounts are trivially crackable with a 15 line script and a widely-available passphrase list (the rockyou leak dataset).

I've let my script keep running on more lists since then and at current measure have recovered the passphrases of a little more than 3% of all accounts that have ever been used.  Since genesis ~8M NXT has been sent to these "weak" accounts.

As I pointed out in my original post, my motivation for doing this was to investigate the root cause of the rash of thefts that had been reported (since I suspected weak passphrases) as well as prod the devs to drop the brainwallet-based key management scheme as the default option.  I actually cracked the genesis account a few days ago but originally thought my code was just buggy when I saw it's balance was negative ... LOL.

As a side note, I should point out that widespread knowledge of the genesis account key isn't a security issue per se.  Although I'd advise devs to be defensive moving forward about the possibility of integer overflow/underflow whenever dealing with amounts/fees now that the whole world has access to an account with a negative balance.

Breaking news... Nxt genesis account compromised.  3% of all Nxt accounts already compromised.

Breaking news...FCs spread their usual FUD.
And don't acknowledge the source:
https://nextcoin.org/index.php/topic,3752.0.html

In other words, don't worry too much.

I should have been clearer on the swarming thing: online swarming good, real world swarming at a conference not so good, IMHO
Think the the real world swarm idea came from jl777, a few pages back.

I posted a central thread for Berlin yesterday, but so far it's as empty as a politicians promise:
https://nextcoin.org/index.php/topic,3739.0.html

Ebereon is in Southern Germany, so he should be able to get the RPS to the conference, somehow
He also mentioned that he could post a system to the rest of Europe, but without batteries.

Last thought for a while: are there any de-centralised/cloud on-line t-shirt/clothing printers ?
I'm thinking of something like:
www.threadless.com
where someone could upload a logo from, say, the US and then anyone could order clothing with that print for delivery to any other part of the world.

Problem with threadless is that they seem to only accept designs they like, they aren't in the business of just printing promo material.
I apologize for my bad idea about real world swarms. I figure it is better to toss out all my ideas and see whichs ones stick. Kind of like baseball. If I bat .333 I am allstar Smiley

James
No worries, mate......sorry to piss on your parade.
It's not actually a bad idea, though, just maybe the wrong context. See salsacz's flashmob/viral vid concept above. I can see a NXT flashmob/swarm being a really cool promo tool for the general public.

@damelon: good news all round. Nice one.

On carbon offset: I've done some very, very superficial research into it, but here are some (dodgy) numbers:
Assuming a NXT network of 1000 RaspPi (non-solar) and 1000 small VPS,

RaspPi consumption is 4 Watts (from ebereons numbers) = 35 kilowatthours/year x1000 = 35,000 kWh per year
VPS consumption is around 10 -25 Watts (Amazon EC2+guess work) = 88 - 220 kWh/year x1000 = 88 - 220,000 kWh per year.

This gives a total for my hypothetical 1000 RP/1000 VPS network of somewhere between  123,000 and 255,000 kWh per year.

Taking these figures and plugging them into various carbon emission calculators gives us total CO2 emissions, which vary between country, of between 88 and 176 tonnes per year (in the US) or as low as 20 - 40 tonnes in Switzerland.

This gives us cost estimates (depending on project type) from 1000 CHF per year to around 2500 USD per year for carbon offset.
Hmmm.....not very expensive, but I do know that the current NXT network is larger than my estimate.
More brainstorming needed....

@Damelon: Hello, scary clown.

Good news on the designing mate. Hope it works out. I've got a few good contacts on the printing side.
I'd like to see some NXT clothing for conference reps, and general sale.
Are u aware of any one who has made some good quaity NXT t-shirt/clothing prints so far?
