1741  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt marketing & promotion :: Recovering from Berlin Bitcoin conference on: February 15, 2014, 08:50:06 PM
May songsoflove be not the right charity, I really like the idea of reaching out to charities and work with them so they can accept NXT donations.

I think ANY action is good at the moment. See it as a test run. We can do more if it is succesful.
I would like it even more if it is privately funded. That would show the *community* gives, not the "community fund" Wink

With the current value of Nxt it shouldn't be thát hard to get a few thousands worth together Smiley

I have no problem with a spot of charity (as u guys may remember  Wink ) but I am just not keen on SongsOfLove at all.
I think it's a very bad fit for NXT.
http://www.songsoflove.org/

However, the agency promoting this to us, Cointropolis, may be able to bring something else to the table.
http://www.cointropolis.com/

And again (gonna beat this point until it's good and dead) it's still too early to go mainstream with NXT marketing.
Over a month or 3, maybe we'll be sponsoring F1, but right now we still need to have tech-savvy users, not Joe Public.
Some merchants would be useful, btw.

Huge Marketing Opportunity

Great job Salsacz and the rest of the Berlin crew!  NiftyNikel will be contacting you today to talk a bit about our charity drive we're about to start for SongsofLove. Our marketing group, CoinTropolis, will start the party off by donating 10k Nxt. I've worked with the foundation director before... they are completely behind it.

Not only does giving back feel good, it gives us a story worth printing with the 200+ writers we have in our media list.

OK, I've just had the time to take a look at the website for SongsOfLove.
http://www.songsoflove.org/

Hmmmm.....I'm going to sound like the Grinch who stole Christmas here, but I am not on board with this. At all....

I admire SongsofLoves apparent aim;  to bring some happiness to kids in hospital.
However, I think that this charity is not a good fit for NXT.
They appear to be offering the same deal to every crypto, so I am sure that the kids will get enough personalised songs to get them thru their illness, even if NXT doesn't get involved.

Sorry for being a grouch, but my vote is no.

I'm not quite sure why you're sorry, it's an opinion that holds equal weight and I sincerely appreciate the response.

If the community doesn't want to directly fund it, that's fine.. I'll decide what type of campaign I want to put together.  People joke about Dogecoin, however, there's a reason why they are kicking ass with far inferior tech. All the marketing in the world targeting nerds like us simply won't push us to that next level in my opinion. But what do I know. Wink

Very few charities accept Bitcoin. Of those charities, most want a digital currency converted to Bitcoin before they accept it. I know, I've done this when I lead initiatives for both Feather and Peercoin. From a PR perspective, that doesn't do us much good. Having a charity that directly accepts Nxt and willing to cross promote is a different story. Being able to call my contact back from Wired and WSJ and say "Ok, now I have a story for you" is different story.

We have a massive PR list, guess how many want to talk about Nxt outside of the hardcore crypto community? Interesting, Dogecoin gets mainstream coverage because they are seen as the non-nerd, tipping/charity currency of the Internet. When their PR people call up the different media publications, it's a much different conversation based on the marketing they've done in the past. I don't have to own any of their coins to appreciate how they are attempting to leverage themselves outside the hardcore communities.

I love charity, however, I'm taking those personal feelings out of the picture. For me, this is simply a business decision looking at ROI.  I was right about pushing conferences to start the conversation (I trained Nikel in Miami), I feel I'm right about this one as well.

** Action **

I'll put a video together explaining the idea. Those that want to contribute, great.. those that don't, that's cool too.

I think I've been missing the point that SongsofLove and Cointropolis are not a unit.

Cointropolis is a crypto marketing/promotion agency, and SoL is a charity that u are including in your crypto promo activities.
http://www.songsoflove.org/
http://www.cointropolis.com/
Am I gettting that right?

Assuming I'm on the right track, then. My problem is that I don't like SongsofLove as a promo vehicle for NXT.
But I have no issues with Cointropolis being involved with NXT promotion.
More help, the better, but don't forget that u are dealing with a de-centralised community, so u need to either find one friendly whale to finance your activities or convince a whole load of NXT minnows to agree with u.

Last point: I still think that the need for mainstream marketing is still a couple of months away.
The crypto community is round about now realising how that NXT is a serious contender, but we still need to improve the NXT user experience (ie perfect clients, stable NRS software, merchants ) before we can attract and keep more mainstream users.

So I feel that most of our marketing right now should still focus on the crypto/nerd/early adopter/techie/DOGEhead markets.

If anyone needs test coins, let me know. I'll send u 100k, but u'll be supposed to send testcoins to other guys. 100k is the only amount I have left.

Also, could anyone who trusts Klee start forging on the testnet?

I'm interested  , can i prove it ?

Couple of marketing projects just surfaced (as far as i can see) in the last couple of days:

I had a question surrounding the ROI for the charity event and not knowing who Blu Cantrell was in another thread, I wanted to address it here as well:

"I'd be happy to address it since this is one of my specializations. If you want to break mainstream news, you need to give writers a story. In our own Nxt bubble, it's easy to get frustrated about the lack of coverage we get when we send out news... but to be honest, that's just not how the world works. Dogecoin understands this intimately with their recent charity drives and news.  I've made the phone calls (my experience can be tracked through both Feathercoin and Peercoin) and it's always the same thing... they want something big to write about.

There's a reason professional poker focused so much on charity events as it fought to become more mainstream. The goodwill generated from events like this make life much easier for PR teams.  If this community decides to pass on it, that's fine.. but it's a mistake from an ROI perspective. It's not about the event, it's about everything around it.

As for Blue Cantrell, well, that's entirely different point. While I appreciate (and live) geek culture, mainstream news that covers mainstream audiences is exactly who I would like to target.

Check my history with Sunny King with Peercoin, I know what I'm talking about in this realm. Either way, I appreciate the consideration.
"
And CoinTropolis' earlier post with my reply:

Team,

We have a major opportunity with the charity to be the official sponsor:

"We can bill it as Nxt presents…,

Check out who we have on the bill:

songsoflove.org/LA

We can change the bitcoin Logo to Nxt."

Not only would we gain press before the event (which would open doors to a number of different writers), we would get media exposure at the event. I need to work out the details this weekend, but yeah... I'm pumped.  If Dogecoin can raise $30k for a bobsled team, I see no reason we can't raise $10k+.

Blu Cantrell will be there... guys, this is a huge event.

Sorry for the lack of response so far, but u guys are kinda rushing in the door and announcing breathlessly that u have a great opportunity for us......we need to cover some basics first.

1) Does the NXT community want to throw cash out now on mainstream marketing? The clients are all good, but we are still a long way from being ready to attract and keep Joe Public on the NXT boat. Conferences seem to be a very good use of marketing right now, that and getting the tech up and running....

2) Do we want to be associated with this event anyway ? I know some NXT'ers are totally against charity marketing.
WTF is songsoflove.org all about ?

Give us more info, pls, start a debate, get a decision from the NXT community.

BTW. Blu Cantrell ? Cute, nice tunes, but not exactly A-list, eh?
or did I miss something in the last decade?

CoinTropolis: maybe u've gone thru this on one of the other forums, too lazy to chack right now, but could u address my ponts above?
Does the NXT community want this or.......?

and on to another marketing project:

Hello, guys!
I want to remind you about collecting funds for the motion graphic design.
We need funds to pay sound designer and to dictors. Then the work will be complete.
For now we collected 398 nxt and 10 ltc, but it's not enough to finish video.

Especially i appeal to stakeholders and to devteam.
I'm sure that video will be very good promo of the nxt.
Also we could make more videos about new clients, transparent  mining, asset exchange and other features of the nxt.
We should teach people. How else they will know about benefits of the nxt?
Don't  pass by. Who except you can support that project? If not you then nobody!

nxt account to collect funds: 8987437801852093688
Here is an original topic
[/quote]

Had a look at the vid, it's ok, but still quite rough.
Again: put some more work into it, engage with the NXT community about it, put in requests for funds if u get a positive response.
U can't expect NXT , at this stage, to just throw large piles of cash at every mainstream marketing tool that comes along and asks for it.

Hi, guys:

Just had a lok at my peers lists and it looks like 10% (or so) of NXT nodes are still running 7.3 or lower client versions.
Just saw a 4.9 fly past....

Upgrade the bloody things to 7.4 or 7.5 before block 70 67,000 (in about 20 minutes.....)

And on exchanges:

Just discovered;
www.swisscex.com.
It's only about 2 weeks old, so the trade volumes are still way too low, but the exchange itself runs like a watch, real pleasure to use.
Check it out, sell your PotCoins.....

I don't pimp stuff very often, apart from NXT, but I think Swisscex has serious potential.

Well, soon, anyway.........

Don't forget to upgrade to 7.4 or 7.5 before block 67000, or J-L says that there will be much forking.

I downloaded the client and thought I would be able to forge a few coins but the forge link on the site doesn't work.

How does one go about forging some of these coins?

Welcome to NXT, mate.

Now the bad news: it's a proof af stake crypto, we already made all the coins.
Forging only gets u the revenue from transaction fees, based on how much NXT u hold. It's not like mining, where u create new coins.

Best advice I can give u: buy lots of NXT now.

Here's my spot of Latin for a NXT slogan:

non deorum, non reges, iustus NXT

No gods, no kings, just NXT
(corrections welcome)

You know, I think the original "no gods, no kings, just us" works too -- especially considering that Nxt will likely become a foundation upon which other currencies ride.  The "just us" is all-inclusive.

Just a thought.
Works for me....lets go for "just us".

Now, we need someone who actually knows Latin for a grammar check...I'm not totally sure if Google translate is trustworthy.  Huh

So much good news today....all the effort of the last few weeks is beginning to pay off.
You guys familiar with the term tipping point, as referring to a chaotic system ?
I think NXT just hit a tipping point within the crypto community, from possible scam to serious contender.
Onwards and upwards from here, hodl and buy in if ya can.

And for the sarcastic NXT t-shirt design:

BTW:Good work on the clients, all of u....

....and I, for one, welcome our new DGEX overlords.

BullDoge imo is just this: "look Doge crowd - we have a network here (NXT) network, that is stronger than Bitcoin"

That's all, just to look in our direction.

It's important -- maybe not mandatory, but important -- to have a doge ambassador, patron, supporter etc to be involved from the start. Defector is too negative of a word; maybe someone who could help doge people migrate and navigate the features.

Bulldoge navigator in an admiral's hat. Make it so.

+1 to swartzfeger.

This could work, BUT we don't want to make this look like either an attack on DOGE or an attempt to ride on DOGES back.
Basically, don't be assholes about it.
NXT could certainly use a tipping/throwing coins around element, it'll be useful, and not just for a bit of extra marketing.

I would suggest. like SF above, to reach out to the DOGE posse and ask for some help/input/whatever.
Co-operate, don't compete directly.

We can call it PuppyDoge !

@ EvilDave:
I was thinking around 5000nxt shipped for each genesis monolith. Does it sound reasonable? I know it's a little pricey but they are one of a kind pieces, the manufacturing and material is not cheap and I'm taking a risk already when ordering 10 of them from my pocket. But let me know what you think, we can negotiate these terms.

5000 NXT = $225 USD. Sounds about right for what it is.....
I think it's a beautiful piece, but there's just no way that I personally am able to part with 5000 of my beloved NXT for it.
(My preciouses.... Cry )
However, if I was a stakeholder/whale I'd take one off you in a minute, just as a reminder of how I got to be a millionaire.
I think u should wait, and get some confirmed orders from big NXT holders before u put the manufacturing order in.

A monolith would also work well on a stand/booth at conferences, maybe the marketing fund could help out.

NXT marketing is a joke, shaking hands on conferences with people that already know NXT does not change sh***. I have said thousand times NXT has nothing.

dodge is having a simple wallet, NXT does not even has that. NXT is only for few IT nerds.

marketing of NXT is an EPIC fail!
