1221  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can you use Bitcoin to pay everything online? on: July 30, 2023, 09:34:18 AM
And because of the delay in payment I was thinking that not everything we see can be purchased with bitcoin, is it true?
It is true that paying with bitcoin is often not the most convenient thing to do, at least not for now. Keep in mind that Bitcoin was created only 14 years ago which is a very short amount of time in the grand scheme of things so it will take some time to properly implement low cast and fast bitcoin transfers.

I simply don't stress mytself too much about situtaion where bitcoin is not the most convenient and instead focos on those where I can sp[end my bitcoin easily, like for examplt paying for IPTV, VPN, gambling etc.
1222  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Kucoin to introduce mandatory KYC on: July 30, 2023, 09:25:55 AM
I thought that this would happen to Binance after imposing KYC, but the number of their users continued to grow, so it seems that an estimated number of people do not have problems with identity verification and may use Kucoin (the same company that runs OKX) as an alternative, so it is true that the number of users will decrease, but I see OKX is advertised in many places so the number of users will continue to grow.
I think that situation with Kucoin is a little bit different because many people used that exchange specifically for no KYC feature, myself included. Well, at least people around me.

Those who use Bitcoin as an investment are a large number and they do not care about privacy, on the contrary, they may keep their currencies in centralized platforms.
That's true, but I think those would already use Binance, Coinbase or other similar "reputable" exchange.
1223  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Kucoin to introduce mandatory KYC on: July 29, 2023, 05:50:29 PM
And as I already posted in this thread, I don't have more to say about Kucoin and its new KYC policy but I do wonder how many customers they've lost because of the change.
Judging by the people around me that I know used Kucoin until they introduced mandatory KYC, I would say that they will loose a lot of customers (me included). I mean, no KYC was the main reason why so many people used Kucoin and once you remove that, people will rather use Binance/Coinbase (at least people I know) or just try to find decentralized solutions.
1224  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Payment processor hacked, more than $23M in crypto stolen on: July 26, 2023, 05:36:45 PM
People should think critically about what is presented to them, but I think we have already passed the point where people were capable of doing that - it is much easier to surrender to the current of the media than to try to challenge it in any way.
And how exactly you challenged what @ZachXBT said? Did you maybe do a proper research, forensics etc? After all, he didn't claim that its 100% Lazarus behind it.

Aren't all governments doing that already?
It's not a secret that US is doing that and they even admitted that in public several times, especially when hackers have the option to choose prison or legal hacking for government  Tongue
Of course every developed country has their own teams of hackers doing their dirty work.

1225  Other / Meta / Re: Charles-Tim merit source application on: July 25, 2023, 05:02:44 PM
My guess is probably right - theymos want a merit source that tends to help lower ranked communities that have quality posts versus focusing on distributing merit to highly reputable users most of whom are merit sources.
I don't think that theymos cares about which rank potential merit source sends merit to, but rather to what kind of posts he merits. At least I like to think that.

Every user who applies becomes a merit source
Nope, not everyone who applied became a merit source as there are bunch of users who submitted their applications years ago and were skipped when theymos introduced new merit sources back in 2021, while some who enevr even applied became merit sources.

1226  Other / Meta / Re: Deleting Several Previous Posts/Comments To Reduce Post Count... on: July 25, 2023, 03:16:17 PM
i know there is no rule restricting users from deleting their previous posts when they feel like it, but I don't know why I feel doing such is a cheating on other honest forum members, as well as campaign managers who might believe you to be a quality poster based on your low posts count and merit earned, not knowing that you are just an average poster like most users of the forum, that deleting previous post is what has kept your post counts down..
To be honest, I don't think that they are fooling anyone other than themselves if they think by deleting posts and having better merit/post ratio will get them into better paid signature campaigns. Likewise, any manager that can get fooled by that is not a good manager at all and is not checking post history properly.

Another reason why some members might do that is because they could be embarassed by their early posts when they just joined the forum but its hard to say without you sharing the names of those members wo we can see type of posts they were deleting.
1227  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Payment processor hacked, more than $23M in crypto stolen on: July 25, 2023, 01:32:13 PM
It turns out that a country where less than 99% of people have access to the internet has the best hackers in the world - and what would happen if the internet was a common thing there? The whole world would probably be hacked Shocked
Who says that they are the best hacker group in the world?

After all, why country that is capable of developing nuke and long range missiles couldn't have a capable state sponsored hacker group? I don't think that they are so backwards as we like to think. Well, at least not at things that matter to them, e.g military.
1228  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Payment processor hacked, more than $23M in crypto stolen on: July 25, 2023, 10:21:11 AM
There is always a chance this was some type of inside job, and not even cold wallets could help in that case.
According to @ZachXBT, it looks like that infamous North Korean group Lazarus might be behind this. Also, total amount lost now is more than $60M as they located more TRON and BTC that was hacked.

Can you list gambling sites that use them?
I've heard names like HypeDrop, Ignition and Bovada being mentioned in articles but I can't say I heard about any of those before.
1229  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Mjesečna Analiza za Hrvatsku Lokalnu Zajednicu (Bitcointalk Croatian) on: July 24, 2023, 06:28:46 PM

1230  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Mjesečna Analiza za Hrvatsku Lokalnu Zajednicu (Bitcointalk Croatian) on: July 24, 2023, 02:53:15 PM
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5457330.0

1231  Other / Meta / Re: Charles-Tim merit source application on: July 24, 2023, 02:47:10 PM
You will be surprised by this stat from Rikafip:
..
I think that its obvious to anyone who follows my thread that Nigerian board is undermrited at the moment and could use at least one more merit source. The only "problem" is that theymos tends to readjust merit in bulk when he sees that amount of merit shared forum-wise went down significantly so it may take a while before applications made after July 2021 gets approved as at the moment, overall amount of merit shared is still pretty good.

Anyway, good luck and hopefully you get merit source status eventually. In the meantime, you might wanna report posts from your local board in Report unmerited good posts to Merit Source thread. I did that when we were in your situation and it helped us a lot.
1232  Other / Meta / Re: [CHARTS] Brief monthly overview of the local boards activity on: July 24, 2023, 09:30:16 AM
Small update: Every once in a while I have to check one of my older reports and it usually ends by me checking old pages of this thread, not knowing where exactly particular overview is (since I am often too bored to check Google drive). So, in order to make it easierr for me and everyone else to check previous months overviews, I added the list of monthly overviews to the first post of this thread.

Ideally that should be added to reserved post, but since I didn't think in advance and make one, I have to do it this way. When the list becomes too long I will  reorganize it a little bit and create table for an easier access.
1233  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Mjesečna Analiza za Hrvatsku Lokalnu Zajednicu (Bitcointalk Croatian) on: July 24, 2023, 08:55:49 AM

1234  Economy / Reputation / Re: Questionable Merit History From: deadsea33 on: July 24, 2023, 05:57:11 AM
I still don't know how a person can cheat others by using online translators. I'm sorry I have no idea about this.
Arabic local board historically has a very high (often highest among all local boards) merit/post ratio so I wouldn't be surprised if someone who doesn't speak Arabic at all uses Google translate in order to farm merit.

By the way, are you a native Arabic speaker?
1235  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Mjesečna Analiza za Hrvatsku Lokalnu Zajednicu (Bitcointalk Croatian) on: July 24, 2023, 05:42:36 AM
Daleko najgori mjesec za mene osobno, za 7. će bar s moje strane stvari izgledati malo bolje.

1236  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Payment processor hacked, more than $23M in crypto stolen on: July 23, 2023, 05:52:35 PM
I wonder if all the stolen coins belong to their clients or if it's a combination of client funds + their own profits.
In that twitter thread that mk4 shared its mentioned that one of their clients (HypeDrop) had to disable withdrawals so it seems that not only their funds was lost in that hack.

Another reason why custodian payment processors are dangerous, despite being simpler and more user-friendly
Iirc the only crypto payment processor I ever used was Paycek and it was very user friendly (its non-custodial ofc)  so I don't know how easier custodial ones could be.

1237  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Mjesečna Analiza za Hrvatsku Lokalnu Zajednicu (Bitcointalk Croatian) on: July 23, 2023, 03:26:17 PM

Analiza broja postova tijekom Lipnja 2023

Lista aktivnih clanova tijekom Lipnja 2023

1238  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SCAM or not ? on: July 23, 2023, 06:51:58 AM
This is just like a newer version of the Nigerian prince emails, nothing more, nothing less. I just don't get it, it's like if someone on the street asks you to give him $50 telling you he's going to be right back with $100, he just needs to get into his car to get you the money. Would people fall for something like that? At this point I would say yes.
It is a little bit more elaborated than that because scammers invest more time and effort in order to fool the victim, compared to nigerian prince email scam. Some scammes play very long game and are willing to chat with victim for months before they go on the actual scam.

It does sound stupid to us that know about that scamming technique and generally have experience, but many people are gullibl and not aware of all the dangers on the Internet.
1239  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SCAM or not ? on: July 23, 2023, 06:36:12 AM
A question that always begs for an answer is, why do people wait until they have scammed 100% or the scam cycle has been completed before they seek for help or open up to other people in the community?
Because people feel embarrased to admit themselves and to others that they have been scammed in a such way. Also, when you see reactions like "If you had IQ above 50, you would realize while typing this post out that it was an obvious scam. So you didn't thought this was a scam, that proves your IQ is way below 50[/i]",  so no wonder that many people decide to rather suck it up then ask for help.

I don't want to sound but is this for real? What does it even mean that you met someone on internet who told you to invest in some unknown crypto trading platform? I just don't understand who someone can fall for something like that.
That's a pretty common scam tactic in which "female" contacts the victim, flirts with him for some time and then moves conversation towards "incredible investment opportunity on xyz platform". Men (and women) tend to switch off their brain when they fall in love and scammers are very well aware of that.
1240  Economy / Service Discussion / Payment processor hacked, more than $23M in crypto stolen on: July 23, 2023, 06:26:56 AM
Payment processor Alphapo was hacked for 23 million USD in BTC, ETH and XRP. Did anyone here use them because I can't remember I ever heard about them before.

Alphapo, a payment processor for various gambling services, reported a breach of their hot wallets today, July 23, 2023. The breach resulted in a loss of over $23 million in Ethereum (ETH), TRON (TRX), and Bitcoin (BTC) cryptocurrencies. The exact amount of BTC stolen remains unclear.

The stolen funds on Ethereum were swapped for ETH and then bridged to Avalanche and Bitcoin. The addresses involved in the breach include:
