I disagree with you on the captaincy of Kohli. It was a much needed step. Kohli brought in a lot of bias and nepotism, and even the coach was acting like his sidekick. The team selection was not fair (Ashiwn's case being the classic example). And the fact that India never won an ICC event under the leadership of Kohli speaks a lot. Winning useless bilateral tours is one thing, and lifting the trophy in ICC events is another. I don't think that Rohit or Rahul will be able to bring much change. I would rather have Shreyas or Rishabh as the captain.
If Rohit fails to perform as captain then who else will lead team in ODI and T20? If Rohit fails then Indian team may be in chaos. Right now Indian team is not in a position to win any ICC tournament. Players these days are selected based on there performance in T20 leagues and series, that's primary reason why Indian cricket is going down. @Sithara007 there’s no doubt that Kohli did have his favourite player’s, but it’s also pertinent to note that he made the team more aggressive and that made opponents fear team India, and this fear factor was there before, but under Kohli it went to the highest levels I have seen till date for the Indian cricket team. Furthermore Rohit is an experienced IPL captain, plus he has Dravid in his corner and given time these duo can reshape the Indian cricket team.

Doesn't matter if India wins next ICC tournament (White ball) or not under Rohit captaincy as he's already 34.

We cant compare IPL with T20I as they both have different dynamics. If IPL is that much worthy, India would not have failed so miserably in recent T20I WC. I think it will take sometimes before India will find a suitable replacement of Kohli in T20I and ODI. KL Rahul and Rohit are no doubt great batsman but I don't see much spark in them as captain.

Give Rohit some time before making a final judgement against him. After just few matches we are concluding that he is just a temporary fix or wont be able to captain in the long run. He is 34 years right now and still have 2 to 3 years of cricket left. I am not a big supporter of Rohit, I am just saying if he is made Captain then let him do the captaincy with peaceful mind.

Surely this could be better choice for Indian future because now it's time for BCCI to do some hard decisions for breaking this player power which is never been ideal in any team specially like India where you have some good number of natural talented players those can handle pressures in well manner. I feel now it's time for having good role model like Australia where they are giving chance to talented players instead of checking Sr or Jr method, this will bring more aggression and good changes for long run. KL Rahul is having some time in South Africa, so if they go ahead with him in short formats for some time it's going to be very good.

I would prefer Shreyas over Rahul. As the captain of Delhi Capitals, I believe that Shreyas has performed much better than what Rahul did with Punjab Kings. And regarding Rohit, I agree with JSRAW. He's already 34 years old and may have only 2-3 years of prime cricket left with him. And given his lack of fitness and a lack of will to manage his obesity, actually I would be surprised if he even lasts for that long. Advantage for Rahul is that he is more or less a permanent member of the playing XI, while Shreyas hasn't yet reached that level.

Shreyas more or less fixed member of limited overs squad for quite some time but making inroads into playing XI is another ball game and this is true for KL Rahul also because there is enough competition for openers slot. Having said that Shreyas would be my first choice too.

Just when KL Rahul was looking to get captaincy of Test, India for the very first time lost a Test at the Wanderers in Johannesburg. Without Kohli India bowled out for 202 and it seems like Kohli is not that easy to be replaced atleast for year or two. He will come back harder and on his own terms this time.

Hardly anyone mentioned here about the upcoming U19 world cup (ODI format). It used to be one of the most high profile ICC events a decade ago. But as a result of the numerous T20 franchise leagues, I guess this event has lost it's sheen. This time also, 16 countries are participating (all the test nations except New Zealand, plus 5 associates - Canada, PNG, Uganda, UAE & Scotland).
Historically, some of the players who participated in this tournament went on to become legends in due course of time. Examples are Steve Smith, Virat Kohli (captained India during the 2008 U-19 World Cup), Josh Hazlewood, Chris Woakes, Ravindra Jadeja, Paul Stirling and Kane Williamson.

You ignored Babar Azam in your list of great players who participated in U19 WCs. Cricket has lost its charm due to T20 leagues primary because of IPL. U19 is the gateway to your international cricket career. I remember we use to watch U19 WC finals but nowadays no one is broadcasting these matches.

From what I heard, Star Sports will be broadcasting some of the matches in India. For other countries the broadcasters are - Sky Sports in New Zealand and United Kingdom, Gazi TV in Bangladesh, Ten Sports in Pakistan, Fox Sports in Australia and SuperSport in South Africa. But I have no idea about how many matches will be shown live. The interest has gone down considerably. Just one more week to go before the opening, and there is hardly any coverage in the mainstream media or in the sports channels.

All year we have t20 leagues plus icc tournaments there is hardly any interest left in U19 and domestic cricket. Trend these days is try to make it to any T20 league and from there players are picked for national team that play test and odi.

Even earlier there is not much interest to view the U 19 or domestic cricket and earlier it was hard to get the match broadcasted, but now a days you get the live feed. If you are talking about players not showing interest in the U19 tournament then you are wrong, all the players who is in the Indian team or in the IPL got selected because of domestic performance or because of their U19 performance. Other than that there is no way to draft a player for the IPL .

Another than that there is no way to draft a player for the IPL . Have to agree. I remember the pace bowling duo Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Shivam Mavi being picked by IPL franchises immediately after their stellar performances during the ICC U-19 World Cup of 2018. Almost half of the players from that squad managed to win IPL contracts. And the list includes - Prithvi Shaw, Shubman Gill, Riyan Parag, Ishan Porel, Abhishek Sharma and Arshdeep Singh. And for the squad for this year's tournament, I have high hopes on players such as Yash Dhull, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Vicky Ostwal and Angkrish Raghuvanshi.

I remember the tine when unmukta chand was captain on india under 19 time that time I had a lot of craze of that world cup which india won in the final. But now really before reading this thread I was not even aware that u19 world is starting soon. May be before thete is too much cricket all around the world and because of that this is getting less media coverage.

Everyday we have some T20 league going on Lanka league, BBL and so on. Even leagues are no more popular among viewers anymore because of its excess. U-19 cricket is essential as it produce players that are available for national squad for longer period of time. Players picked just based on there leagues performance cant survive ODI and Test.

Cant say whether Aus can win from here or not, as match is once again delayed because of rain. But one thing is very clear that Aus are now in very comfortable position as they are now 241/6. England wasn't able to take advantage of dismissing top orders at early stage of innings. England wont mind another draw.

The best quote i heard so far was from Usman Khawaja, he wanted to tour Pakistan and to give back to the Cricket community as the people are desperate to see a match live in their home soil for a long time and hence he wanted to tour Pakistan and majority of the players are now siding with the fact that they do not have any issues with the tour and that is promising.
