The Davis Cup will take place tomorrow after being postponed the previous year, Spain as defending champions will be without Nadal who has announced the end this year in August due to injury.
Yeah, but Spain will have the young and upcoming Alcaraz to carry them. Spain will start against Ecuador so I think they can win this one. They also have Carreno-Busta and Albert Vinolas so still a solid team for them. Can't wait for Davis cup, still not used to new rules but it should mean we have fast matches and a lot of drama. Alcaraz should be good for Spain but he is still not Nadal, and has almost no experience but that is somewhat easier to overcame when you have your captain on the bench with you. Rooting for my Croatia and we should be going trough as long as Cilic can beat opponents 2nd player. We have best doubles in the world with Mektić/Pavić and no second player to speak of. So it should come down to Cilic results. Good thing he found some semblances of form towards the end of the season. I think this will really be a big test for Alcaraz, yes he is not Nadal, but he is touted to be the next one so we will see. Regular tournaments and Davis Cup are very different matches, and as you have said, there is a lot of drama in here. Yeah, Croatia is still a very good team, Cilic has been playing above lately and he just peak in this Davis Cup. I'm not familiar with doubles though, but Mektić/Pavić are sho-in. As far as Djokovic getting the vaccine jab? Nah, I don't think so, I remember that he is against it and then he contacted the virus. But he didn't get any of it but just decided to be quarantine.

I actually read a article yesterday where it was claimed that Djoko has now decided to get the jab and are going to get vaccinated in time for AO.
Happy to see he decided to get the jab so we can enjoy his presence next year too. Would be astonishing if the worlds best tennis player decided to put his career on hold over such a reason.

Oh really? that's good news for his fans, and bad news for his competitor as for sure he will enter the AO to start the year. Ok here is the article I've seen: https://www.insider.com/novak-djokovic-will-get-vaccinated-before-australian-open-boss-says-2021-11Craig Tiley, the head of the Australian Open called out Novak Djokovic and seemingly attempted to goad him into getting vaccinated against COVID-19 by saying the tennis star "will not want to miss" his shot at a record 21st Grand Slam. Yeah, he has a good record in AO so it's really necessary for him to get the jab so that he can compete and probably have a good chance to win next year. I guess it's the right decision for him.

Is that him saying he'll get vaccinated though, or just the Australian Open people desperately trying to convince him to do it, because they want him to play there? TBH given his personality and the way he is often so outspoken on these things, I would actually be quite surprised if he got the vaccine. Of course he will have a good chance of winning the Australian Open if he competes there, and achieving the record, but it's not like he won't be the favourite at every other slam as well.

He is very popular person in Serbia and I am sure somebody would take care of that for him. Not implying that he will do it that way but I am sure it has been done already and will be done in future as well with some prominet figures which are opponents of vaccinations for personal reasons.

Yes, that's possible, and we really don't know if he will really get the full vaccine or not. Or maybe the AO organizers are going to give him a free pass for all we know. And we all know that he doesn't want to miss the Australian Open as he will be gunning for the record. And the organizers as well doesn't want to lose the top seed and the main draw in their tournament. So I will just speculate that there could be colluding behind and let Djokovic get a free pass without actually taking the jab.

Even if he announces that he got the vaccination for real or not he will come under a lot of criticism from his anti-vaccination supporters, it will be a big thing for him to defend his decision to go against everything he talked about before. It will be very interesting to see what he does.
Will he forgo his opinions in pursuit of an almost guaranteed 21st GS win at his favourite event?
How will he react if he gets vaccinated and loses at the AO?

There are a lot of athletes as well, like in the NBA who are not playing because they don't want to get vaccinated, just Irving. And there are some who changes stance, because they are going to lose a lot of money if they don't play. Will he forgo his opinions in pursuit of an almost guaranteed 21st GS win at his favourite event?
How will he react if he gets vaccinated and loses at the AO?
Probably this is his goal and that's why he is willing to take now the vaccine after his hard line stance before. So winning for him is the most important thing. Well still a win-win for him even if he losses the AO. Vaccine is more important, in my opinion.

So it's maybe just the Australian Open telling this to the media or Djokovic really shows intention to take the jab now because he wants to compete in the tournament and wants to win next year and achieve the record breaking. And maybe he knows that if he didn't complete here, chances are, the young gen might take over the next Grand slams, so he needs to take his chances now and 'swallow his pride'.

If the AO is so concerned about peoples' health then they should cancel the event entirely. I don’t want him to be hurt by the vaccination. He is already immune.. If he ends up with myocarditis or pericarditis, the AO won’t care. The GS is a big deal but not more than Novak’s life. I equally don't think Novak really has to play next January's grandslam tournament. It's not like it's a do or die kind of scenario. If he's not comfortable let him stay away. What he's achieved at that grandslam is so immense that not taking part in January won't reduce much from his achievements.

Itally won against USA in Davis cup which was sort of expected but Sinner destroyed Isner 6:2 6:0. I don't think Isner lost the match with just 2 games by his name ever. Even against players like Djokovic he almost always managed to get 3 or 4 games per set on board. I guess he is out of form but still Sinner must have played some incredible returns yesterday since Isner serve is a force to respect.

I didn't see it, but the reports do say that Sinner played extremely well. I don't know with Isner, I suppose so much of his game is based on the strong serve and winning all his own service games, if that serve starts to misfire, or he faces someone who is great at returning, then he can struggle. Isner actually ranks top on percentage of service games won this year, a ludicrous 92%... so maybe he did just start to misfire a bit.

This is certainly a big dilemma for Djokovic. Is it more important to him his personal attitude about vaccination and his freedom or is it more important to him to win the GS in Australia and officially become GOAT, the greatest tennis player in history? In fact, it is a question of whether personal fame or personal dignity and attitude are more important to him. Djokovic is a very stubborn character, so I would not be surprised if his position on vaccination prevails and he gives up performing in Australia.

I wasn't able to watch the game as well. But basing on the score, it's either Sinner play perfect on this match that Isner has no answer or Isner was really out of shape that he just goes on the motion of the game. And just imagine if you have to bet on the second set to love. Rublev vs Quiroz of Ecuador now, for sure Rublev is going to win this match for Russia. 1.05 odds for Rublev, Lol, better be go on the under 1.85.

And with the names you mentioned, they are either in the top 10 or at least in top 20 so Russia will be a formidable team in this year Davis Cup. So don't be surprised if they goes to the final.

And just like that, Djokovic Serbia's was upset by Germany in the Davis Cup.
Djokovic really try to salvage Serbia's win here, but they've lost in the doubles to Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz in score of 7-6 (7/5), 3-6, 7-6 (7/5), it was really that close as you look at the score. Germany now advances vs Austria next.

It has probably already happened, but if Djokovic would do it and it comes out, than all hell would break loose. As this would be considered as fraud, he would probably get a fine/suspension and loose some of his lucrative sponsor deals. And just like that, Djokovic Serbia's was upset by Germany in the Davis Cup.

Its not a great system to rely on one single shot or a serve or not have a crucial shot. I never warmed to Isner, its all about the serve with him and it is brilliant but I think he relies on it too much as in his other game play is not as impressive. Being an all-rounder like say the top 10 players is essential.

I never warmed to Isner, its all about the serve with him and it is brilliant but I think he relies on it too much as in his other game play is not as impressive.
Being an all-rounder like say the top 10 players is essential.
Everybody plays to his strength. Isner did brilliantly with the cards he has been dealt. He is not one of the more talented players and yet he had very good career. He went all in on his serve and net plays and it worked good for him during the years. Guy over 2 meters tall will never be the best mover on tour, it is not possible, he has to rely on his superior reach and strength. Never liked him as well but I respect what he has done and not every player is built to be all-rounder. You have to be good at everything to be top 10 but that place is reserved for the best of the best. Isner best ranking was 8th place I think, and that was when all 4 greats played well and had first 4 spots reserved. So not too shabby.
