Anyone experienced any errors like this?

[ 1084.587016] amdgpu 0000:07:00.0: GPU fault detected: 147 0x05708801
[ 1084.587016] amdgpu 0000:07:00.0: VM_CONTEXT1_PROTECTION_FAULT_ADDR 0x00E0983C
[ 1084.587016] amdgpu 0000:07:00.0: VM_CONTEXT1_PROTECTION_FAULT_STATUS 0x06088002

I've walked the cards and even went as far as replacing the OS but it keeps coming back. So far, I'm only seeing this on the z170a board with the 6 470s.
Yes my dmesg is spammed with that. I ignore it.

Yes, I have 7 plugged in with 6 working just fine at the moment, and I believe the lack of the 7th showing up is that I have not shorted out the second x16 slot - I am running old style risers from 2014.

I hope to short the pins during lunch today and have 7 running!

I'll get you the exact specs sometime today, work permitting Smiley

please report if this is a HW or SW problem. I am interested in this as well.
Sorry I haven't had time to resolve this yet. Busy busy always..

@tytanick, I have been getting a small amount of reboots on a couple of my rigs, maybe 2 or 3 reboots a day.  My rigs come back up fine after about 30 secs but is there a specific log I can look at to determine why this is happening?

I am running in to this same issue and I am actually running smOS on an SSD instead of a USB stick. Is there anyway I can turn some logging on to be able to look back at why my system reboots 3-6 times a day? Sometimes its minutes apart sometimes it is hours apart and the screen scrolls so fast that there is no point in trying to catch what is happening anyway.

Soothaa,

I spent a good bit of the day futzing with that machine and I'm convinced that it's just not going to support 7 cards until MSI releases a new bios that's going to allow us to disable the SATA controller. I have several z98 boards from them that support 7 cards and in each case, the option that allows use of the 7th card is the ability to disable the SATA controller.

With 7 cards on the z170a, you can get 7 cards to show up in the OS and Claymore but as soon as a stress is put on the cards, you start to see weirdness with the OS like hangups or dropping network. I believe this is due to a resource constraint. Possibly interrupts or memory addresses. I went through the OS and ensured that everything that could be disabled was. That included: Audio, HPTimer, and the Serial port. Could be that the next BIOS from MSI fixes things. Only time will tell.

The highlight of the day had to be the new USB risers. Back in 2013/2014, those were crazy expensive and difficult to get. Now days, they're cheaper than the risers I bought years ago. These new ones popped right in and replaced the older risers AND the jumper wires I'd had to put in the PCIe slots to force the motherboard to see the cards.

Has anyone been able to get dual eth+DCR mining working yet? All the pools (dwarfpool for eth + suprnova for dcr) i've tried for mining DCR say that it can't authorize with the pool then fails at recogning the username and password switches.

From what I've read on here, people have been able to get the MSI z170a boards to run fine with 7 cards in windows, no? If that is the case, then it must be something else...

That's interesting. I still have not yet had time to take another look at the board (and still won't tonight Sad) plus it seems Amazon is delaying my new risers until Friday. Come Saturday I will be totally focused on this and building my datacenter so I hopefully will have more info then.

Suprnova changed the ports for DCR.
