I have a theory: I purchased hosting later with order 58xx, while my Saturn is 39xx. It might be that I got pushed down the queue as I saw a couple of orders in the 39xx-41xx range which got shipped yesterday, while mine still says "Paid".

Well aparently it still dont mean crap. Who knows how long it will be till i get my miner.

Just an update for everyone who doesn't couldn't get all their asics up and running.

I ordered 3 jupiters from KNCminer and they arrived last friday.  And my cowoker ordered 1 jupiter. 

These are great products once you get them up and running, but boy was it a painful experience.
The issues I had with them are below.

1.  The fans on the heat sink falls off easily.  When You hear things rattling in the box, you have to open them up and put the fans on the heat sinks properly.  And they use torx screw drivers so that was a pain in the ass, luckily I had a torx set around the house.  I had to open all 3 jupiter boxes to put the fans back on at least 1 of the heat sinks on each of the units.

I had only 1 unit with all 4 asic boards running properly the others did not report any status on the status page.  After resetting the fans, I took a closer inspection.

2.  On 1 of the asic boards, the serial cable (not the power cable) CRUSHED one of the pins on the asic board.  I took the unit off line and straightened the pin on the board and then the ASIC came on.  I was pretty happy about taht.

3. Another asic board on another unit, the asic board's serial cable was defective or had some impedance issue.  I swapped the 2 cables (the ones that were the same length) and brought that asic online.  At this point all my asics were working properly.

However One of my coworkers who purchased an jupiter as well couldn't get his controller board to power on.  The asics were all powered though since he saw the fans were spinning.

4.  My coworker debugged on the on board pins and realized that there was no power going in to the controller.  So he took apart his unit and looked at the soldering on the power connector and realized it was faulty.  He touched up on the Power connector solder and the controller now came online.  the man spent a good 6 hours on this.

These were some of the issues that came up.  I hope this helps some of the people having similar problems.

Wow, that's unfortunate and I hope mine do not arrive in that condition.

Couple of things.

Did you contact KnCMiner with all of the above information?

Did your coworker just void his warranty by soldering the board?  

 I got sick of debugging after a while and was considering an RMA, then I decided to look at the hardware instead of the software.  And that's how I ended up fixing them. 

My first email I told them about my problem and what I have already tried to fix, and they gave me some canned response about how to enable the cores, which I clearly told them I've tried it already.  So definatly no help.  After I fixed it I did tell them about how I fixed it.

My co worker likely did void his warranty but I doubt they'd know by looking at the board itself so I don't think there is nothing stopping him from sending the damn thing in if it was to ever break.

 

This sucks.  Completely unacceptable on a >$7k USD device.

Actually, I don't understand why they used a 4-pin Molex for 5V, instead of a 24-pin ATX Molex, attached to the controller board. That way that could have added a power switch and pull 5V from one of the red wires at the same time. Don't think it would have cost much more, maybe $5 extra...

I just have it plugged into the PSU of a regular computer. Turn on the computer, and the KNC comes on as well.

So I upgraded to 0.96 and slush is reporting 66Gh/s from my Mercury
Thats down from 120 Gh/s on 0.95

And, according to SSH, its still hashing at 140 Gh/s like it always has.
Confuzzled.

You need to give it time, remember that figure is a average, not a real time stat.

So slush is now reporting 142GH/s as it should. So technically 0.96 actually made it better. In 0.95 cgminer was reporting 140Gh/s but slush never reported 140GH/s even after all day of mining

again i'm a noob my .95 unit Jupiter (that for some reason abused as it was arriving box in shreds and full of rain water poured out 1/2 glass) seems according to knc ver of cgminer to run around 550gh stable on .95 (I have touched nothing nothing I tell you..actually runs well enough it freaks me out a little) OR is that just cgminer version by knc being optimistic in that my slush account is showing around 520gh....or from the above you mean slush is just a real time ave when it shows real time gh on connection on account page (thanks hope that made sense?)

mine with shipping to the usa was $7131.30 I think it was or thereabouts including UPS shipping charge. Also USA so no VAT or duties on my unit either (think it slipped thru..its not like the box says 'electronics" or anything the ups guy probably thought it was a "breadbox' from the weight of the thing.

4 pin is better.

reason being 24-pin molex uses an entire rail with something like 20amps.  You are using probably something like 10 watts and end up taking up a 100watt rail.  You can probably use that rail for something else.

additionally people with the Lepa 1600  PSU can power 2 units easily, you don't want the power switch determined by 1/2 unit if you hook up 2 units on it.

I noticed something interesting with my Mercury that I was hoping others could confirm. My miner has been running at about 120GHs with 1 core disabled pulling 117W of power at about 36C per bertmod. I stuck the miner in the Garage yesterday since it's getting cold here now and this morning I check and it's running about 138Ghs pulling 109W of power at about 27C and only 1 core disabled. I've read several posts on here from 'ormoma that the temperatures don't matter but this clearly shows that a 10C drop in ambient temperature gave me a significant boost in hashing power that has been sustained ever since the temperature change not to mention the lower power draw...

So, talk performance.  How are they?  Not posted perf, but actual.

My Jupiter has been running for just under 23 hours.  cgminer shows an average of 547Gh/s and 2.5% error rate.  That translates to a pool speed of 533GH/s.

Bertmod (monitoring software) says the chips are taking 480 watts.  Plus the power for the beaglebone.

Okay, received my jupiter today.  Wast getting about 450gh/s with temperatures around 60 degrees C.
I updated to .96 and my temps went down to 40 degrees C. Hashrate stayed about the same.
I loaded up enablecore.bin and it gave me an error while rebooting.  Now everytime I try to go to the miners setup page, it gives me a 404 page not found.

Any ideas??

I sometimes wonder if when one first fires up a new miner and there's bad cores and high temperature, if it's better to let it run just like that for a couple of days.  The rationale would be that if in shipment some ball grid away  points cracked and separated but still making marginal electrical contact, there will be a higher resistance point there that will be hot, hence the high temperatures.  It might get hot enough at that point or points to liquify the solder while nearby healthy solder points remain okay.  Then after turning it off and cooling, when you restart that point has a solid solder contact.

Mine has been running at 100% on all 4 cores overnight and maxed out at 137.5GH/s avg so I would expect max avg of a Saturn to be 275GH/s and Jupiter 550GH/s, 5 second averages not withstanding.

I've also noticed an interesting phenomena of "bad boots". Sometimes after a restart things are not up to par, but if you keep trying you will hit a "golden boot" that works much better. I recommend for people having trouble to try this!
