Besides KNC forgetting the screws both my modules are running hot. Did anyone put thermal grease in between the aluminum plate and the heatsink or just greased the chip only? Both new modules I put in are running 10 degrees warmer then the other two. Seriously, how warm can these go before there starts to be a problem? I have dies shutting down all over the place on both new modules. I'm only hashing at 540Gh/s and according to BTC Guild, it's only 318Gh/s. Although BTC Guild may need some time to catch up, since it's only been a 10 minutes. Yea, I posted this on the KNC forums too...I want to cover all bases here.

You did remove the plastic protector from the cooling tower base, yes?

Well, I've got 5 modules running now and I'm getting about 660GH/s. Adding only 110GH/s to my old 550GH/s seemed slow, so I used bertmod and see that I've got the dreaded Die 0 issue! I'm running firmware 0.98.1 and blocked the airflow to raise the temp without success (reached 80 degrees C before I lost my nerve and started the fan again).

Are there any other tricks before I decide to RMA it? My 2nd module arrives tomorrow and I'm hoping for better luck.

It's not the ASIC that needs to get hot, it's the VRMs. I know this cause I used the water cooling to test it. I had no fan on the radiator, and a fan blowing on the VMRs, the temp never raised and the die never came back on. Switch to a fan cooling the radiator and no fan on the VRMs, the temp shot up and the dead die came alive.

Anyone use a 10-pin connector directly on the PSU: http://www.frozencpu.com/products/19648/ele-1163/FrozenCPU_ConnectRight_10-Pin_Female_PSU_Power_Connector_-_Corsair_Seasonic_-_Black.html

I can't find it in the UK or Europe Sad And the usual 6 pin PCI-E does not fit.
Any ideas?

I have the 24pin version of that, plugged right into the end of the 24 pin cable for my KnCs. works very very well, no problems yet.

I also have 4 of these, but I want to ditch the 24 pin cable, so only 1x Moles for the Beaglebone and 4x PCI-E cables for the cards are left.

Here's an interesting tidbit for you: Jumping right at the power supply works on some PSUs, however not all. It worked fine on the terrible Corsair RM850, however on the AX860 and the Seasonic 860 (same psu) it absolutely will not work, however jumping it at the end of the 24pin cable works fine. I notice there are multiple wires coming from teh PSU side that then double up on the 24Pin end, I didn't bother looking into it further or tracking the ones that needed bridging, I just deal with the ATX cable and jump it at the end.

Yep, and I forgot to mention that I am also using enablecores.bin. I downgraded all the way to 0.91 and all of a sudden all of the DC/DC modules had amperage! I then upgraded to 0.92 and I lost the original DC/DC plus another!

I remember Phoenix mention that he pressed down on his VRMs and felt a 'snap', so I tried that and two of them seemed to click as if they weren't all the way down. Upon powering up, however, there was no difference.

I went back to 0.91 and it brings back the first DC/DC that was failing, but the one that failed later is still offline. Let the wild goose chase continue!

You just install it like a firmware upgrade.

Version 0.3 seems to work ok with 0.99.

I jump all my PSUs right at the modular connector. You don't have to have 10pin connector if you can just get the female crimp pins instead.  Make a small lead and attach it to the proper PS_On and Gnd pins.

P.S. - I do make switch connectors that will work for this but the shipping to Europe sucks cost wise for singles.

Do you mean to get these, connect a cable between them, insulate them and then plug it directly into the PSU:

Can you post some pictures on what you made, so I can get a better idea.

Thank you.
