Who just added 2Ph? AntPool? Edit: We had a similar spike back in October, the ~2PH/s did not stick around long, could be p2pool is a fail-over for a large mine?? Looks like you're right - whoever it was has gone again...... Edit: Has anyone sifted through the changes made by Bitmain in their p2pool git repo yet? Any thoughts? I'm shite with python code, so it's over my head I'm afraid..... I don't think their changes mean squat. If they change any of the fundamental pieces of p2pool, the rest of the network will reject the work, essentially forking the chain. So it's won't be p2pool.. maybe antpool? But definitely not p2pool. M EDIT: It'd be like someone "improving" Bitcoin by tweaking the protocol. That's fine if you want a new coin, but don't expect the Bitcoin network to accept it.

PPS for P2Pool has arrived! Give it a try and help us beta test. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=306611.0Miners will notice a significant improvement to payout variance along with regular weekly payments. The NastyPool-PPS payout system has gone live. I think this is particularly beneficial for smaller miners who are looking to support a decentralized mining network while at the same time greatly reducing their variance from typical P2Pool nodes. I urge miners to give it a try and let me know your feedback. server: nastyfans.org:9332 username: 1YourBitcoinAddress-PPS password: anything statistics: https://nastyfans.org/miners/

Over the past 5 days (120+ hours), only 4 blocks were found. Not blaming you, of course. I'm just disappointed in the (bad) luck in block solving. I was hoping Bitmain's Antpool P2P solution would help P2Pool by adding more hashrate, which should increase the number of blocks found, purely from a statistics perspective. But the jury is still out on the overall value of Antpool P2P to P2Pool. Or maybe a better way to put it is, many believe Antpool P2P does not add value to P2Pool's core fundamentals of mining decentralization. The same could be said regarding NastyPool. I'm not saying that is a bad thing. It's just that your pool is similar to a traditional pool, as it shows up to the P2Pool chain as a single Bitcoin address.

By the way, for any miners in the US-Midwest looking to mine on P2Pool, or looking for a backup, my node is fast and free. The server has a i5-3350p (Ivy Bridge), which is plenty fast for single thread performance, which is where it matters. 16GB DDR3-2133, ASUS Sabertooth Z77 Motherboard, RAID-1 240GB Samsung SSD. And here's the most important part; a dedicated business network line (100Mb down, 4Mbit up) only for Bitcoin P2Pool. All my other networking is using a residential line. Anyway.. if you have a need, check it out. I live in the suburbs of St. Louis. The website is very basic with just the mining statistics for now. When my Bitmain L1 arrives, I will get my Litecoin P2Pool node running again. http://bitcoin.missouriminer.com:9332/

The goal was to build a more traditional style payout solution on the back of the P2Pool network to solve the high share difficulty level that discourages small and mid-sized miners with erratic payouts. You can now get weekly payouts by mining P2Pool via NastyPool with as little as 10MH/s. I think that does add value to P2Pool.

You can now get weekly payouts by mining P2Pool via NastyPool with as little as 10MH/s. I think that does add value to P2Pool. I agree with your statements, and small miners definitely need the type of help your pool provides. Even a 1TH/s miner is only getting 1 share every 12 or so hours. I did not intend any negative comments about your pool. I mainly tried to reference community feedback regarding the value of Antpool P2P towards decentralization, and it has more to do with the way Bitmain advertised their work towards P2Pool. And I thought your pool had a similar approach, therefore you got hit with my shrapnel. Sorry about that. Bitmain made a statement several weeks (months?) ago that they were going to merge a decent sized pool (~5 PH/s) into P2Pool and add value to P2Pool's existing implementation. It turns out their implementation is not what was expected by the community majority, or so it seems. The discussion can be found here. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=855548.0 By the way, I really like Bitmain's hardware. For me they have been rock solid, and customer support has been good. They sent me an S3 controller card when I essentially bricked an S3 with a firmware upgrade fail. But this does not mean I agree 100% with everything they do. I'm still waiting to see the final outcome of their P2P, and hoping for the best.

I notice that p2pool.info not updating. Are there problems? Does Forrest not have time/interest in maintaining it?
I would be happy to step up to help here. I can also provide hosting if that becomes a issue.
If this is already discussed maybe someone can point me to the discussion?

p2pool.info hasn't worked properly since forrestv took ownership of it many months ago, and yes, he's not interested in fixing it. A better source of p2pool info is: http://minefast.coincadence.com/p2pool-stats.phpForrestv no longer participates in any discussions here either - you can try sending him a PM of course regarding taking ownership of p2pool.info - but don't hold your breath waiting for a reply

I haven't received a share in over 24 hours, I was running 1.6 TH/s for most of the day, and a few hours ago added some to total 2.5 TH/s. I had been getting two or three shares a day consistently for the last couple weeks. Is there some way to troubleshoot this to make sure all is working? I have a local node running p2pool in Linux and six antminer S3s. I don't see any complaints in the p2pool log, and the status page looks ok, just no new shares. Should I restart p2pool on my local node, is there any penalty in doing a restart, I mean, would I have to wait for some ramp up period again, or does it pick back up where it left off?

I should also mention that I have my difficulty set to 512 by appending +512 to my wallet address, I was using /5000+512 based on a recommendation from some tutorial, but I didn't understand the /5000 and took it out to troubleshoot

/50000 give you share of that power, but only if pool share is LESS than this number. It is way more so it can be removed. +512 give you work units on this power to solve - it makes that traffic between you and pool is less than if you not use it.

Got an email this morning from Bitmain announcing, among other things, the launch of AntPool. Excerpt: Additionally, we’d like to share with you our new product - Antpool (antpool.com), which has been proven to be stable and secure through its long testing period. Antpool encompasses both a traditional pool at stratum.antpool.com:3333 or solo.antpool.com:3333 and a p2p pool at p2p.antpool.com:3333. The p2p.antpool.com:3333 URL resolves to this error page: Does not seem like they are off to a strong start....

Did it say if the p2p code was now available for download, so we can run our own nodes? I see the Github repository has some updates, but I can't assume it is ready, nor did I see any new instructions for setting up a node.

I got it too. I don't know though, it's all very vague & still leaves a lot of unanswered questions. I've PM'd the two pool engineers from the Bitmain thread (ktzhan & xlc1985) in an effort to get some clarification, as asking on the actual thread gets either no reply or a dogie comment/guess.
I was really hoping that Bitmain would have been more open about the whole matter tbh, but the more I look at it, the more I get the impression that they are just cashing in on the "decentralization" pitch - as ckolivas said earlier. Not much benefit to p2pool at all, as it stands. If any.

The statement regarding not getting a share is the same as saying: I picked a card 20 times and didn't get a Jack - there's something wrong with the deck of cards.
It's more like saying, I'm using one of those card dealing machines from Vegas to deal me 3 cards a second. For the last two weeks I've gotten 1-3 four of kinds every 24 hours, then for 35 hours, I get zero, and I think a card got stuck in the machine. I did finally get a share today but, then it got orphaned. Is it normal with 2TH/s to have a stretch of 35 hours with no share? Is 2.5TH/s big enough to compete in p2pool? If we're talking about random odds, it seems less likely that I would go that long without getting a share than it does that I would get three shares in a day. I'm fine if this is normal, just trying to learn what to expect, and trying to make sure my systems are configured correctly.
