Hello slush family! Quick question... I recently changed out my mining equipment that I have pointed at the pool (3 S9s). For you S9 users out there, do you let slush auto-set the MIN DIFF (ie leaving the setting in workers set to or do you update that value? Yes, usually, it is better to let the pool choose the DIFF. If you have a lot of hashpower, it can be interesting to exact adjust diff for win 0~0.2% better. But for 3 S9, you will loose your time. FYI, when I log into my miner statuses directly it's showing diffs = 8.86k / 8.89k / 8.84k respectively?
I ask because I've been seeing swings up / down in my hash rate between 36TH <-> 46TH. Is this about normal? The 3 S9s are all 13.5TH, so would expect ~41TH. Thanks!!!
Thats normal, you should look the 24h average to evaluate your "exact miner efficiency" by select it in Worker page. Usually, it is a little less than the S9 display because include ping effects, reject share and time lost at each new block. If difference exceed ~-1% in average of every days you check, then you have a problem.

Strictly speaking, slushpool offers a choice and is not only signalling BU, as miners can choose to mine for segwit as well.

If the slushpool mod watches this forum can you please explain the large swings in hash rate recently?
Is this people coming/going from pool using software to pick pools based on luck rate, last block hit, etc?
It's very confusing to me because sometimes hash rate drops by high # of PH, but the number of works goes up... how is this possible???
Thanks!

Probably some big concerns who have slush as a backup pool, their primary pool goes offline for some reason and they flip over to slush, then flip back when their primary comes back.

Might only hit a block or two every few days, but at least I'm getting paid for the work I submit. I hate that Slush only pays if you are mining when the block is found. PPLNS is the way to go for a small miner - ~50TH's Just my opinion.

Slush,
Is it possible for you to set up the pool to allow ASICBOOST? I have no idea what this would entail, I assume my S9 firmware would need an accommodating upgrade as well.
I would like to compete fairly with miners who have this covert ASICBOOST enabled.
Cheers

A pool has nothing to do with ASICBOOST! Don't listen to trolls (blindly) and do your homework on the matter first. (hint) this is over an year old (patented) optimisation for mining hardware and software - not illegal to use (in production) if you pay the patent fee. EDIT: Just to make it clear - it is illegal to use it without paying the fee (as with any other patented technology), but it is not a hack as it was published, probably because of misunderstanding.

Well I thought one has to mine empty blocks to take advantage of covert ASICBOOST (?), therefore I figured the pool would have to organize that in their mining code. Also, a Patent in China has no jurisdiction outside of China. I'm not in China, I would like to use ASICBOOST and compete on an even playing field. Preferably, Segwit is activated ASAP and it is rendered obsolete...

An empty block is bad for the network, as it does not contain any transactions (while the sole purpose of the blockchain is to secure the transactions), but (almost) every pool needs to provide to it's miners some data to work on initially (after a block is found) and an empty block is the fastest way to do it (with or without ASICBOOOST). Mining only empty blocks (with or without ASICBOOST) is bad for the network (and that can be considered a hack), but it can be easily confirmed from the blocks mined from the pool and no pool will probably do it anyway (and loose the transaction fees), so (IMHO) this is simple trolling around this matter.

Sure, I agree and understand empty blocks are bad for the network. I don't want to mine empty blocks, I'd be at Antpool if I did. I'm not trying to troll, I just want to compete with the other cheaters, until the problem is fixed, is all.

If you really want this to work and get the consensus support from the people mining in SlushPool, submit a proposal on their Development Corner. Let's see how it goes from there.

I'm not exactly computer literate, so I would appreciate any help re setting up a mining proxy.
I am currently mining on Slush with a cellular internet connection and I want to minimize my bandwidth use, since data is expensive. Currently I've boosted my miner difficulty to the maximum setting and have managed to minimize my bandwidth to about 4.3 mB a day / Antminer S9. This is not good enough however, I am soon going to be doing a rather sizable farm expansion.
I understand I might be able to point my Antminers through a proxy and minimize my bandwidth. I've been fumbling around trying to figure out how to set it up, Slushpool has some info in the helpcenter about using the Proxy, but I still am having problems figuring it out. In fact I have no idea what I'm doing, I have no background in this kind of stuff.
If anyone has any info or can refer me to a how-to or anything helpful, I would be much obliged. Feel free to PM me

Can you get a better deal for the internet service? That would be the easiest way.

It is my understanding that miner and pool need to support asicboost for it to work. Patents will only be valid in the countries they have been granted (generally). Reddit mentions that apparently the patent has not yet been granted (in the us)? Either way, a level playing field would be good. Some redditors say they are already using asicboost, but could be trolling... Does anyone have any first hand info? Seems the version number needs to be changed in the bmminer.conf and the pool needs to support it (via the stratum protocol) to send the right sort of work.

I read that paper a long time ago and might be wrong, but ... The pool may help a lot, but a miner can also do that on it's own. From what i remember (and understood) those 30% are the maximum possible in about 10% of the cases, so (IMHO) not worth all the headache. Once again, it was a long time ago, I didn't pay much attention and might be completely wrong here, but it doesn't seem a big deal to me, as it is less than the variance caused from luck (5-10%).
