Quick question -- I am using phoenix 2 which I got working properly yesterday. However it seems unable to connect on the stratum URL, and always goes back to the api2 URL as "backup", but the "my account" page hasn't shown any change in the past day despite the miner running at ~950 Mhash/h for the past 15 hours or so... is this normal? Unless something has changed recently, phoenix doesn't do stratum. Either use the stratum proxy, or use cgminer like the rest of the planet.

Well, the proxy seems to work... just getting to this point was a bit of a pain so I'll stick with that for now.

yes. this is exactly what i'm intending to do. Any plans on opening your "private pool" to others (aka creating a new pool)?

happy diff increase everyone! 21335329 woohooo! 21th/s yum!
Anyone know why blockchain.info doesnt show the diff increase yet? maybe the block it changed in hasn't gotten to their display yet? they seem to be a few blocks behind usually. at least it looks that way to me. I watched the diff listed on https://blockchain.info/stats on Saturday and it slowly increased until it got to the current diff listed on Slush (21335329). Based on that, am I correct to assume that blockchain.info is calculating the diff? Does anyone here know how the diff changes are relayed over the BTC network so that nodes are aware of what the current diff is?

Dear Slush,
Thank-you for runnig a fair, effectively implemented, secure, stable pool. It is a pleasure to mine here, secure in the knowledge that you are ever vigilant, a technical wizard, the leader in bitcoin stratum technology, and a fellow miner.

There is no single entity to calculate and propagate the diff. Each node can calculate on its own, and will accept only blocks meeting the difficulty. Blocks are time-stamped by the one who mines the block. Average network time is communicated between nodes, and blocks with a timestamp differing more than 3 hours from network average are not accepted. Every 2016 blocks, timestamp of first and last of those blocks are compared to calculate average time per block for that diff-round. The difficulty is then adjusted in such a way that new difficulty would have caused an average time per block of exactly 10 minutes for the last 2016 blocks. Since every node works on the same chain of blocks with same timestamps and does the same calculations, the new diff calculated by all nodes will be the same.

Any chance of running a Litecoin pool, too, slush? That'd make me a very happy camper. I want to get into litecoins, so that would be cool. yes, Slush, what about running a litecoin pool for retired GPU miners?

wemineltc.com is what I switched my GPUs to. Good payouts so far, especially with the value of LTC right now.

Same here, it's a nice LTC pool. I did use ltcmine.ru for a little while, but they've had a few DDOS attacks and other issues. WeMineLTC is supposed to be DDOS-proof, thanks to servers all over the place behind DDOS protection.
