GPU miners to dev:
Dero Atlantis:

ASIC resistant?

plainly: YES/NO

Huh

Not a dev but, it has been stated numerous times. YES, ASIC resistant.

some link where dev confirms it?

Just read the last dozen pages, it's been asked and confirmed plenty of times.

I probably overlooked, so you have a concrete link? (from dev)

If you don't trust somebody else's word than perhaps you should look for yourself next time. It doesn't take much to realize that it will have to be ASIC resistant as the PoW is changing. Since it is a new PoW, there are no ASICs built for it yet.

I am not going to scour the ANN for you but there are official responses from the team confirming this multiple times. Here is a quote from the April Monthly update.

https://forum.dero.io/t/dero-monthly-update/446

"Specific Updates:

Source code: DERO project source code will be availiable in coming weeks.
POW: POW will be defintely changed to make it more egailtarian in DERO-Atlantis. Few algorithms have been short listed for DERO’s next POW and are under tests to handle scalabilty, verifiabilty, DoS issues etc. Right now there is no change in POW as we are already in process of migration to new blockchain next month."

Now, that statement is from April so don't get confused. What it means is that they had not changed PoW in April because they were going to release the new blockchain with Atlantis.

so only speculation, as often from half of that thread!
I read the forum every day from page 7.
dev never clearly confirmed the resistant asic, nor did it ever appear in the roudmap.
(as with other coins I watch)
Mining Dero I started when it was possible mine a CPU 5 Dero a day.
So I wonder if the original community that Dero supported in the beginnings can will be able to return?!

You are full of crap about actually looking for confirmation on your own.  And I don’t believe u have been following forum since page 7 or you would already have an answer. Stop wasting the communities time.

And as for your last post, stop sounding so entitled. If it’s that important to you get on slack and look for yourself.

I agree with Shrimby1, the information is being given to you. I have been around since the time that you are claiming you have been around. I can't see how you could be following a project for 6 months and not know the dev's stance on ASICs.

You shouldn't be so dismissive of people when they are offering the information that you are asking for and providing a reference point.

The story was like this:

1. When ASICs were anounced by Bitmain, Serena, as a representative of Dero devs, promised to spend her personal 20000$ to buy 3 ASICs to disassemble them in order to understand, how they are functioning and to release ASIC-resistant algo as soon as possible. https://forum.dero.io/t/deros-official-position-on-asics/281

"I will personally drop the $20,000 USD to buy the 3 well advertised ASICs to let our developers literally tear them apart and you can hold me to that."

2. "We are going to combat ASICs don’t worry" (Serena)

https://forum.dero.io/t/deros-official-position-on-asics/281/10

2.  After Monero team switched to Cryptonight-V7, Serena said that it is not a problem to switch to ASIC-resistant algo. They can even generate and switch the algo every few seconds. "Our devs even built an asic-resistant algo generator that can produce hundreds of new algos/second."

But at the same time Serena refused to release a new mining soft, which can mine with this kind changing algo. "We’re not planning to release our own mining program at this time or push our own updates for mining software. The algo generator is possible but it will require more time/resources and our team is currently focused on other things for the time being."

https://forum.dero.io/t/about-anonymous-hashrate-and-pools/343/17

3. Recently Serena said "We have confirmed that we are using a new algorithm that isn't ASIC friendly. ... For now though, we are moving to a brand new algo and it takes quite a while to develop an ASIC for any algo." The possible name of the algo is Dero-DAG ? Note that at the moment the mining soft for this band-new algo does not exist (otherwise it is not a brand-new), and as it is stated just before, there are no plans to release it.

4. The conclusion is that: even if some day (devs never announced the exact date) the Dero will switch to a new Asic-resistant algo, it will be only once, after that Bitmain is welcome to develop a brand new ASIC for it.

"ASIC technology is advancing, and perhaps it's inevitable that mining/network security" (Serena)  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2525508.3120

6. The devs are focused to create "robust, secure, energy efficient and decentralized blockchain network". Note, that ASICs are the most energy efficient devices ever.

Atlantis has a new algo that is (for now) ASIC-resistant to a reasonable degree. All we're trying to say is that mining technology has advanced quite far, and so we're still giving the whole ASIC situation a very thorough review. When Atlantis launches we will have a little bit more time to dig through our data to see what is, and isn't possible.

Alright, it looks like everyone is running out of things to cause FUD over. Go ahead and try some ASIC rhetoric and try to start arguments. Atlantis will do the talking when it's released. Have fun guys, I think I'll go ahead and wait until Atlantis is released. I'm going to sit this one out but I'll give you all of you  an "A" for effort and 1 out of 10 for originality.

ASIC FUD is so 2 months ago. lol

What's with that earlier quote that Inlite brought up though Serena:

"Our devs even built an asic-resistant algo generator that can produce hundreds of new algos/second."

In retrospect it seems like it was at least an odd thing to have said, and isn't a statement you're currently holding to.  Seems like it needs a bit of explanation.  From my understanding, there are two possibilities:

(1)  There is/was an algo generator that could change the algo as often as you like - but each change would still require a daemon update and a soft fork.  Basically it plays with some parameters and the new algo is fairly trivially different from the old one, but this change was at the time thought to be enough to throw ASICs off the network until a new hardware update of the ASIC (new ASIC) was developed.

(2)  The algo referred to is a POW algo that could change itself hundreds of times a second and would in some way be self-replicating and ASIC resistance without needing any daemon updates or forks

My impression is that (2) seems like science fiction and can't be what you meant.

That leaves (1).  Producing a new algo that differ from the old by just a few different parameters isn't really producing a new algo so that is stretching the facts a bit, and in any case, ASIC mining is more sophisticated than you then realised and/or has become more sophisticated, and you now realise that these kinds of trivial changes are not sufficient to build ASIC resistance anyway, since ASICs can be built to accommodate them.  Given that the new algo (Atlantis / Dero-DAG) is new and therefore there will be no ASIC for it for a while at least, you want to just wait to do more research on this before making further commitments.  But the new algo is not inherently ASIC resistant; there is nothing about it that will make it particularly difficult for bitmain to develop a new ASIC for it given a bit of time, just as they have done for other CN algos.  Therefore you don't (any more) claim native ASIC resistance, but you are open to doing this going forward, if it proves technically possible.

Comments?

The algo generator is capable of producing new algos based on variables/inputs from my understanding (fork required)

More information and research is needed in the area of advanced mining tech

olny CLI ?  Dero have  GUI WALLET?

No GUI wallet for DERO. It's kind of incredible that someone would buy an ASIC and not know how to set up a CLI wallet... You didn't do much research before you bought that thing, did you?

It's none of your business. We make money , we don't have time to to learn programming languages or IT education . IF you want make DERO great and TOP coin make GUI WALLET make convenient wallets and pools . Why btc bch ltc eth zcash and over have easy use ? I think that the trend at that time is important.
If eth changes to ASIC, more GPU miners or GPU providers will be in trouble.
I think that it is necessary to change by the trend.
Since now ASIC has few manufacturers, it becomes monopoly.
It would be better to wait a little more for the ASIC.
It had better get involved with more people.
