Is there a thread which tracks merit-begging PM spam, or appropriate for that purpose? Out of the numerous merit-related threads, I haven’t seen one where that would be on-topic; but I don’t want to create yet another, if an appropriate thread exists.

Slightly off-topic: I use " Report To Admin" for PM-spam (bottom-right under each PM). Thanks; I know, and I do intend to report to admin. But of course, I will also red-tag; and I want a place to collect them in public, in case any DT members may deem that useful. Since there doesn’t seem to be an appropriate topic, I will make a new one for merit-related spam by PM, e-mail (which I have also received), and other means of private contact.

As other members already stated, this is a private forum, so the owner has any right to do what he thinks is the best move to improve his property. It doesn't make any sense to complain about any aspect we don't like; much better to be grateful for the opportunity we have to learn a lot and - eventually - to have a little extra income from campaigns.
So, not with the intention to complain, but just to offer some ideas, here are my two cents: the intention behind the merit system is very good, and I think that only spammers and shitposters don't agree. What I find inefficient - and probably more of the "complainers" agree with me - are mainly these two aspect:
1) the system is really too unbalanced in favor of old members. I understand that I have to earn my position, and I agree that only "good members" will rank up. But if I read the old posts of a lot of high rank members, I find a lot of shitpost, and I just wonder why "they" had this privilege by luck in the meanwhile I have to work hard for the same results. I agree, life is unfair, but this aspect is very disturbing.
2) the merits are too scarce. I had ONE. Now I have THREE. Really, a so little number make me anxious to give them. Even if I like a post. I think it's the same for other low rank members. The result is that may be I write a masterwork (I'd like...) but nobody has merit to give to me. The only members with a lot of merits to give are Legendaries (another privilege..), but it seems that they prefer to reward each other, may be just to show friendship. I'm pretty sure you did some math projections, but in this way the system it's really too rigid. Of course, may be I'm wrong. We'll see.
But please accept the idea that - even if the meirt system is a good point to start - there is a lot of space for improvement.
i agree with you, it is necessary to define a mathematical rule for calculating merits. anew algorithm that solve this problem. i gona to write the algorithm of this system but I doubted for some of the comments to write this algorithm or no.

I predict that Merit will be the next big Crypto Coin, seems to be huge demand for Meritcoin
Provide that merit sources are providing them for free (without taking any money), you will not see this being traded for huge prices. Only way to get good amount for yourself is to make more meaningful posts which is not that hard if you have the right attitude.

Was any consideration given to providing small amounts of sMerit to Newbie and Jr. Member Ranks? In this way, those most in need of help and guidance could say thanks (give Merit) to those who assist them.
This would also instil the concept of giving Merit to helpful posts right from the outset for the newest members of the forum.

I like the Merit system, it's really a genius idea, I found that a lot of member trying to do their best to get some M, it's really something good which will surely improve post quality; but that's not all, I also noticed that many members are sympathetic to each other, each one agrees with the others, it is also a positive point of merit.

Thank you guys! You've explained everything to me better than infographics did.
Btw, infographics are useless if you just put text on a jpeg picture. That's not an infographic.

Slightly off-topic: I use " Report To Admin" for PM-spam (bottom-right under each PM). This. I believe sending unsolicited/spammy PMs can result in temp-ban (somebody correct me if I'm wrong), asking for undeserved merit is, or should be, another offence (similarly to asking for positive trust rating). Reporting such PMs is probably way better than red-tagging. Or you could do both. Obviously it all depends on the context of the PM.

True, now more of the users need to improve their post, they need to excel and grow up, because if not they can't collect any merits from the others. Otherwise users will become challenge to gain merits, but some of them were not agreed regarding smerits maybe because they cannot know the importance of ranking up. It is not about the money or bitcoin we earned. It is about how we can improve our post and how they can shared our idea to others.

There is downside of giving some sMerits to newbies. Suppose 1 smerit is given for a newbie account. A lot of new accounts will be registered to abuse this. For instance, someone wil make 10-15 such accounts and give merits to main profile to gain member rank. Also, they get additional sMerits in the main account which can be further abused. It is better the current way.

Finally i found details regarding Merit system.
Concern: No one can read through each and every post and then award points based on relevancy. That means many a posts will be overlooked and usually the first posts to be read will get rewarded and the later ones will just be lost even if they ended up being more useful.

I am actually in favor of this. Most of the times initial replies have already addressed the issue asked. Thereafter, members just keep repeating the same things in other words to increase the post count. So, you have to be active as well to get merit points.

What do you mean finally, the thread has been here for two weeks. If you look towards the top right there is a search feature you probably could have found it faster . And yes there are some flaws to the system, but it isn't 100% concrete, admins said they would monitor and see how it goes. Make useful posts and you need not worry

This information or a link to it should be available when i click on profile merit. Every new feature or system has a "? / help" link just a click away on the same page which explains everything about it. I am just providing this as a suggestion so that whenever something new is added, such a help feature can be included from the beginning. Currently i did use the top right search button, but i assure you it wasnt very fast. Plus it wasnt even the first post to come up when i did the search.

This is a forum and help information is provided in the form of stickied threads at the top of each board. Meta is the board with all information about the forum itself. The sticky Forum ranks/positions/badges (What do those shiny coins under my name mean?) links to this thread in the first lines. This thread has all the information in the OP.

Self-Custody is a right. Say no to"Non-custodial"
|
What I see is that no one use merit. As we cant rank up, people are going to pay a lot for high ranked account.. and its not cool. It just add more values to accounts that reached higher rank before this update. Not rly fair. Just look at people's merit, they only have the merit based on their previous rank (0, 10 and 100 mostly). The idea was great, but atm its not working. Deleting all ranks would be better Yes. Sounds like you have a lot of great ideas. First, this system has been in place for a bit longer than 2 weeks, so we have plenty of information to determine that it is not working and that tweaking it is not going to work. In other words, it is a fucking disaster. Secondly, based on the first idea, let's blow it all up, and start from the beginning. Let's put everyone at zero. A reset. That will be better. Let's also throw all the bitcoins of the members into a pot and divide them up evenly amongst all members.... 5 bitcoins each should be good enough. Who need more than 5 bitcoins? Price is going to go up anyhow.
|
1) Self-Custody is a right. There is no such thing as "non-custodial" or "un-hosted." 2) ESG, KYC & AML are attack-vectors on Bitcoin to be avoided or minimized. 3) How much alt (shit)coin diversification is necessary? if you are into Bitcoin, then 0%......if you cannot control your gambling, then perhaps limit your alt(shit)coin exposure to less than 10% of your bitcoin size...Put BTC here: bc1q49wt0ddnj07wzzp6z7affw9ven7fztyhevqu9k
