Do you think that there will be any update of the merit system? Or is there any possibility that merit system will be deleted?

I think the first is unlikely and the second is extremely unlikely. The system seems to be working as intended and other than continuing to add merit sources I don't expect to see any changes.

So, I had to be more active in the past, my fail. Hope that in future wont be hard to get merit, I see many threads where people asking for merit, because they think that they are posting good content..

If you have been involved in Bitcoin since 2013 then you probably know something about it and have something to contribute to the forum. The forum's purpose is to be a place for Bitcoin enthusiasts to meet and discuss relevant topics. If that's what you are here for then a) rank will not matter and b) you'll soon start getting Merit.

do you honestly believe that nobody can learn or help others without a healthy respect for the merit system??...really?..seriously...an adult actually posted that idea...wow, you people make it so easy...this thread should be closed just to keep any 8 yr olds from stopping by and embarrassing most of you...

I don't think merit is working entirely as intended*, but ad hominem attacks tend to not be terribly effective at converting someone to your cause. Then again, I'm not obsessed with ranking up, either; about the only benefit I care about is finally being able to wear my favorite forum avatar for this username (Banksy' "Star Wars Pulp Fiction").

* - mainly in that certain subfora seem to be all but ignored by merit sources, despite having a higher than average signal-to-noise ratio; e.g. - altcoins\mining is not nearly as afflicted by sig-campaign shitposters as the other altcoins subfora (or even the bitcoin subfora, from what little I've observed), but few posts are receiving merit.

That's equally true of the Bitcoin mining section which is disappointing as mining an area that people will get involved when they first get interested in Bitcoin and crypto. It really needs someone from those areas to step forward and apply to become a Merit source.

You should not waste your time on people who thinks he is right about everything and always mocking a system where it can help something to be better although the system is not perfect.

Click that ignore button, done.

I like you, fella.
Yeah, done. Thanks for your nice tutorial, which save my time and help me won't feel annoying in the future.

Yeah, you are welcome. I start doing this ignore thing since i have seen some high ranked people ignore other who can only whining about merit yet they are not doing something to make theirself better. It will save us a lot of time and emotion, and save us from meritting wrong person in the future.

Having a high rank doesn't necessarily mean users should have more credibility or be taken as examples. Ignoring someone just because their point of view is different than yours may not be a good idea, you may find yourself only confronted with opinions that you agree with and may become quite closed to any different opinion.

I am open to any point of view, but i am not open to any kind of harsh and rude word and attitude. You can deny other opinion politely, no need to bring any anger or rude word.

First of all, I don't understand what you mean If your thought is merit farming from alt account maybe that's possible happen.
As of now don't burden your self with merit on how to get just focus on how to make a quality post or how to build a post that good in English. Maybe that's the reason even a single smerit you don't have.
Forget the smerit reply on genuine topics that you can share a good idea, not on megathread, who knows there is someone who likes your post and give you smerit.

What I try to do is not pay too much attention to the way the message is delivered and focus on the content. Even if an argument is presented in a harsh way, if it makes sense then it's worth considering. I agree this may be difficult, especially in face-to-face conversations, in written communication it can be managed more easily I guess.

I don't even look at how much merit i have or don't have. I have never posted to simply gain rank either and never will. If you post only to get merit or further your rank than you need to re-evaluate yourself because it's a waste of your time.  Why would you roll like that in the 1st place? The rank has no difference, newbie can still post and read everything i can and jr member (which you don't even need merit or anything much to attain) can enter most bounty campaigns so what is the big deal with merit? Business as usual if you ask me. I use bitcointalk to gain trading knowledge and learn about new coins and events in the crypto world. Why is it that humans always form social hierarchies with ranks and levels anyhow, and than the masses want to conform to these systems?

I like this system, though I'd like it more if merit could decrease with shitty posts. There are lots of people on this forum just shilling, fudding & fomoing which needs to stop.

Are you sure these merit points are not mythical?
They've eluded me so far, despite my efforts to only post quality responses and posts.
0 for 65 is an indication that this system doesn't work or isn't fair.
At this rate I haven't even got a reference point to gauge my activities. It appears that I would have to do at least another 650 posts minimum to evolve from a Jr Member to Member with no guarantee that I will even achieve it then.
Doesn't it all seem a bit dodgey and like a sure road to disgruntledness and desertion of the forum by those who have tried their guts out.
I for one will be pointing out the unfairness and imbalances in the system to every Admin and Bounty Campaign manager.

Keep posting in altcoins (tokens/bounties et al.) and off-topic sections then asks why you didn't receive any smerit, is a legitimate question in my distorted opinion.

You've made 65 posts in 4 months since you registered, which isn't a lot.  I tried viewing your posts, but apparently I've got all the sections where you post on ignore, so my guess is that you're posting in mega spam threads that no one reads.  If you keep doing that, it's a guarantee that you'll never earn merit--and your English is pretty good.  So stop hanging around with the mouth-breathers who only know how to write garbage.

The merit rate is low, though.  That part is true.  What's your hurry to rank up?  You can read and write just fine on bitcointalk, regardless of rank.  If you are getting "discouraged" because you haven't earned merit, you're probably here for the paycheck and aren't going to get any sympathy.

All of the members could still rank up they just have to prove that they are worth it,
They just have to prove that they aren't one of those spammer's who are just spamming nonsense in this forum.
And I think if their comment, thread or post is really informative or helpful there would be a forum member that would surely give them a merit.

That is the central idea behind the system, probably stated 30-50  200-300 times in this thread before you did.

Well every person is different is true enough i guess. I can not do that while the person who is talking to me told me to "go fukkin die" in a thread which i made, even if that happens in a written communication.

There are always two sides to a story; while you may not need the merit to rank up, others do. Because the information or data gotten from the higher ranks ought to be authoritative in their assertions.

Else, before now, if as a newbie you depend on ranks to guide your investment choices and trading strategies, you might be in for a long-term loss:

Quote
"...I use bitcointalk to gain trading knowledge and learn about new coins and events in the crypto world."

But the ranking system can help sift through the pile of junk comments and remarks, and while ranking up is a compensation, it does well for the future newbies, crypto stakeholders and the forum for credibility.

But you are right, hierarchy is always a problem as long as people want to beat the system, but a system without one is chaotic and disorderly - and that's human nature by default.

The merit system exists now for more than a couple of months. Does it has improved the quality of posting? Quality is again subjective term.  There are merit giveaway mushroom-like crazy. Was that primary aim of the merit system.

I am on bitcointalk to understand what community think about future of the blockchain.  Still, the forum is helpful in that aspect and I will be using that help and not worrying about merit ....

FWIW, most of his posts are to the Tokens subforum under Altcoins. I'm probably much more interested in altcoins than you, and even I don't bother with the tokens and ICOs on account the vast majority of them are scams.

I see many quality post here but didn't have a merit. As I can say the problem will be the members who are not participating the purpose of the merit system

Lol, I was going to write the same thing right before putting him on ignore. @tsoyens01 is clearly fishing for merit by repeatedly posting to Meta, but didn't get the memo that shitposting here will just get him added to the ignore list of the very people most able to give him merit. Looking at his post history only cements my decision to ignore him as just and good.
