I'd like to vote for the implementation of fractional merit. Considering we live in crypto and all I think it's a shame that I am unable to send someone half a merit, 4.20 merit or similar.

I don't think fractional merit is necessary. Does it make a difference when Binance - one of the biggest exchanges doesn't allow its users to sell/buy fractional tokens.

Besides, the current merit system encourage people gaining merit in order to send, i.e when you receive 1 merit, you need to earn 1 more to be able to send. It's helpful in reducing merit abuse.

Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

How would merit be abused by you being able to send 0.5 instead of 1? You'd still need to get 1 merit to send that 0.5 merit so it makes no sense to me why you'd not be able to.

For all I care keep it as you need to have 1 sMerit to send anything to someone else, but give me the chance to merit a post for 2.5 or similar.

If one of my alts luckily receive 1 merit for an effortless post, I'll need to wish for more luck to get 1 more merit to be able to send 1 to my main account. Whereas, with fractional merit system, I'd immediately send 0,5 merit to my main without praying any luck.

I doubt that the 0.5 merit would matter much. Merit abusers/farmers usually get tagged anyways, not sure I'd give 2 satoshis about someone who has 0.5 merit on their account, lol.

It's not about buying/selling merit, dude. And 0,5 merit would make a ton of sense if 1 merit is required to become junior member and access to bounties sub.

How can i earn some merits?
-
You got your merits now, thanks to that generous giver. Welcome to "Member" rank, hope you could earn more merits next time.
And it's not suspicious at all, to receive 10 Merit from a red trusted account seller, 2 hours after complaining about Merit.

For all I care keep it as you need to have 1 sMerit to send anything to someone else, but give me the chance to merit a post for 2.5 or similar.
I see no point in fractional Merits. If you want to give 2.5, you may end up giving 2, while someone else in the same situation would give 3. In the end, it doesn't matter on average. And considering you need 1000 Merit to become Legendary, you can give an amount as low as 0.001 times Legendary already.

I hope the new forum software could solve account buying/selling once it's released. I'm still waiting for statistics before I can post my suggestion on how we can "somehow" stop it. I hope theymos would implement it.

Normally, if given a choice to do something and nothing, I choose to do nothing.
But I will do something if it helps someone else to do nothing.
I'd work all night if it meant nothing got done.

You would be a Member by now, but that’s it.

You really need to take a look at your posts and then take a look at the posts by theyoungmillionaire who also posts in English and on your local board. You should be able to spot the differences in what a merited post looks like vs a non-merited post. Performing this comparison should suffice for anyone. You cannot seriously call it hard untill you make the effort ...

There is nothing impossible for humans to do. You try again and again.I think you'll also find. Read the posts of all the boards of the forum. Then you can understand how Merit is available when posting.You will be experienced with the same.

ESG, KYC & AML are attack vectors on Bitcoin

Regarding demerit, I really think it would be abused to "punish" people you disagree with, rather than punishing low quality posts. I can't even imagine the drama it would create on the forums with tears and hurt feelings.

Yes.  Some members advocate for demerits, but it really seems an unnecessary and petty kind of practice, and there seems to be other ways to punish bad posts/posters by 1) not giving merits, 2) substantively responding to the posts, 3) use the trust system 4) report the member (perhaps banning or suspension might be applied if egregious)

Of course, we have to deal with ESG, KYC & AML, but each of them are attack vectors on Bitcoin to be avoided or minimized.

In this life everyone must do the best for themselves, as well as on Meta, even though I don't get a little bit of merit but I don't try to do the best and the best.
The merit rules are good for judging that professionals in the posts hopefully this can last forever.

Actually nowadays it is more difficult to obtain merit and in my opinion this is due to several reasons:
- the merit airdrop is over, or is ending and people do not have any more merit, so they can't +merit even if a message deserves to be rewarded;
- the sources seem less and less active, as the number of sources increases, the number of merit decreases, it should be the opposite;
- some people do not read messages from random people but only from "most popular people";
- some people do not use the merits received but know they keep them in the grave.

the last part made me laugh Cheesy like what i experienced here lately, i want to give someone merit because of his post that helped me a lot and someone that inspire me more to pursue crypto but i dont have any merit. I guess they should have more merit sources, the ones who were always active and appreciate people, not only those famous ones.

years before, having a good rank is by increasing your activity and posts, and it takes time but now we need merits. merits help this forum to implement its rules, merit system divides the good poster and not so good poster. if you have a good posts, constructive posts, on the topic post then you will get it. yes it is hard, i am agree with that , yes it is maybe difficult at first but if we continue to extend our capabilities to improve our posts then I think someday somehow we will be having that merit, and having a constructive sentence can open our new way to write.

It is only merit man. Human body and mind combined can do a lot of things way beyond getting merits if you do the right thing. Do not look at the past like that because you will find more and more regret. Move on and embrace the future. Do what Ddmr's suggestions.

Yeah i dont know why they are really want some features like demerit. This place will be a battlefield since day 1 demerits introduced, if that ever happens. I agree with JJG, not giving merit is already a punishment for the bad posters. We just need to add some rules to mae the punishment hit even harder, like making a 1-5 merits requirement to be Jr. Member.
