Same as that we see in the FIFA, cricket needs to be encouraged with more countries. Different levels of qualifiers needs to be conducted, so to give opportunity to new teams. Playing with limited number of teams shrunk the fanbase within specific countries and cricket will be termed as the sport of specific regions. With the T20 leagues more countries have slowly started to practice cricket.

These new teams that are playing the T20 format will not be able to play ODI or Test cricket. All three formats are very different and require different skills. T20 has been beneficial in the growth of cricket but a country cannot only play T20 they need players to play other formats. Unfortunately, there are hardly any players outside the known teams that can play. I think slowly T20 will kill other formats of cricket no matter how hard ICC tries in the future.

I really cannot decide which is better for cricket. If T20 is given more importance the other two formats of cricket will eventually be dead and if T20 is not given a lot more important regardless of how the other two formats of cricket are doing I think cricket is not going to be popular worldwide and the popularity of cricket will certainly decrease. so it's a difficult dilemma for ICC.

For the namesake, the ICC can claim that cricket is very popular and their ranking includes 91 different countries. But in reality, only around 20 of these teams are composed of native players. And in the recent times, the ICC funding is skewed heavily to favor teams primarily being consisted of foreign players.

Just like you can't compare apple with orange's, likewise we can't compare icc with fifa. Though cricket is old game but it failed to get global popularity and remain confined to South Asia mostly or we can say countries where UK ruled once. Even associate level teams are capable of beating top teams in fifa while that's not the case in icc tournaments.

I disagree with the last part of your argument. The chance of an associate side defeating a full member is much more in cricket, when compared to football (there is no associate/full divide in football, and FIFA treats all of them equally). Netherlands have defeated England not once but twice in T20 World Cup. Then we have dozens of upsets occurring in various ICC tournaments. The associate nations hardly ever get a chance to compete against the test nations outside the ICC tournaments, and that is why we almost never hear about such outcomes outside the ICC tournaments.

Yes, I agree because if you don't give a team enough chances of competing with the best, how will they be able to beat the best? And we hardly see associate teams play with regular cricket playing teams. These associate teams are needed to be brought forward by the ICC and need to arrange a lot more tournaments for these teams where they can play against better teams and that's how they will get better. Otherwise, these teams are not going to be interested in cricket as the top 10 regular cricket-playing nations are.

Hardly any country outside top 15 or 20 is capable of playing cricket. While if we see fifa rankings then countries in top 75 are capable of giving good performance. Its not incorrect to say that cricket is game of subcontinent now. Players from these countries are the only reason why we are seeing 91 countries in T20 table.

If you talk about test then it's the original and proper cricket format. Cricket skills specially of bowlers are tested greatly in test only. The main reason why cricket didn't evolved over time like football, basketball is because of lengthy test format. I am very much convinced that cricket can survive in T20 format in the long run.

I am not sure, how the pink ball will help Test cricket, and playing night matches will increase viewership? Before T20 every team was either playing ODI or Test cricket, I am referring to prior to 2007, at that time we were TV coverage and still, cricket did not get as much recognition as the post-T20 world cup and IPL.

I still prefer watching ODI but a Test match is something that I would prefer watching the highlights as I do not have the patience to watch a whole day match for the next 5 days. Today's generation has the same attitude toward ODI and I am certain in the next 10 years ODI will face the same problem as Test cricket is facing today.

Do you watch Ashes, it is one of the most viewed series and if it is not entertaining why would someone watch those. There are certain series that the fans watch and it is a battle between the bat and ball and only skillful players can be consistent and even in that regard it is entertaining for me.

Back in 90s life was not that busy so we can spare time for ODI and test back then. T20 held at night are best to watch and enjoy. May be we have T10 taking over T20 in coming days.

Maybe they have an option while working or maybe they are still die-hard fans of this format. T20 or IPL are mostly played during the hours when I am also back from work hence I can watch those matches live.

Most working-class does the same but the same attitude can be seen with the younger generation.

Bro stops talking like the ICC. you are saying Ashes is the most viewed series of cricket and that's why test cricket has lots of the was just like ICC says that 10  countries playing in a tournament is the world cup. and you can only watch a test match for the whole duration only if you are really interested and attached to cricket, maybe as a player otherwise you have endless time to waste.

People have a lot of things to do. but I am not saying that test cricket is not interesting. test cricket requires the most skill among all the formats of cricket but the part that is not acceptable to the viewers is the time-consuming part.

That's exactly what people need to understand. you cannot just sit on your butt and watch Test cricket for 5 days. that is the peak inactivity of a man in my opinion. and I think test cricket is eventually going to die out and there is not much that ICC will be able to do about that. but if you or someone who is trying to take cricket as a professional I highly suggest that you should watch test cricket more than any other format.

The Ashes is considered pinnacle of test cricket and it's surely interesting event but i would argue that it's not competitive series at all, when playing in Australia. In England yeah it's competitive one for sure.

But not in Australia. The kind of show poms put up there, it's downright embarrassing. Ofc it's funny to watch Poms getting belted by Aussie but after 1-2 test it becomes boring affair.

Cricket requires a lot of skill and especially the test format requires higher skill than any other format of cricket but test cricket requires a lot of time and generally, people don't have that much time to watch test cricket. often times we can see that it is cricket is arranged on the weekends and people generally watch for 1 or 2 days but after that people need to go to work and a lot of people are just content with watching the score and the highlights.

T20I or league matches are held in afternoon or at night, that's why they widely watched and liked. If we talk about test then I only check score at the end of every day. After introduction of T20, its very hard to watch 100 over game that took your whole day.

I just hope that we refrain from further reducing the duration. T20 match lasts for 3 hrs on average, and that is fine with me. Slightly longer when compared to average football match, but it is tolerable. T10 needs a few changes to its format. If we want to make T10 more interesting, then there should be only 6 players per side. You can't have a 10 over match with 11 players on each team.

T20 is just need of hour to keep cricket alive in 21st century, its never a proper cricket format. If you wanna see skills of bowler and batsmen then you need to focus on test. I don't think the cricket in the world needs T10 right now, even if it is needed you should be way into the future where almost nobody has enough time to watch cricket for even three hours. I really don't think t10 is going to require too much skill as everyone will just go and smash the ball.

right now the T20 format is alright and one-day internationals are a good mix of skill and smashing. but I do think that if  ICC wants a lot more teams to play cricket they really need to promote t20.
