Afghanistan - Zimbabwe

Afghanistan and Zimbabwe face off in the first ODI of the series today. Zimbabwe won the toss and was elected to field. Afghanistan scored 39 runs in 12 overs. However, they lost the wickets of Rahmanulla Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran. Now Rahmat Shah and Hashmatullah Shahidi are in the crease. Afghanistan will not be able to give big targets if these two batsmen cannot prolong their partnership. There are not many experienced players in Zimbabwe's squad. On the other hand, Afghanistan's bowling line-up is strong enough. So Afghanistan seems to be the favorite in this match.

The partnership between Rahamat Shah and Hashmatullah Shahidi has been lasting. And they have already scored 99 runs from this partnership. Rahamat Shah scored 49 off 94 balls and Hashmatuallah Shahidi scored 49 off 72 balls. Afghanistan scored 137 runs in 35.4 overs. Although their run rate is now less than 4. Yet since the Afghan bowlers are experienced. So even if the target is low, the chances of Afghanistan winning are high.

Afghanistan has been able to give a huge target of 277 runs. At the end of the 38th over, Afghanistan's collection was 150/2. They have scored 126 runs in the last 12 overs. The batsmen of Afghanistan have batted brilliantly. Neither Rahamat Shah nor Hashmatullah was able to score a century. On the other hand, as a result of performing in IPL, Rashid Khan's batting has improved. He has scored 39 runs from 17 balls today. As a result, Afghanistan has been able to give a huge target of 277.

I don't know what's the difference between whales, Scotland and Ireland. In many cases they are under England but still have there independent team's. Netherlands if want to come up then they have no other option but to avail such series seriously. I am sure Netherlands boards is paying good money to there players and they are not in dire need of money.

They have won the two one-day matches and the third and final ODI will be played tomorrow in Karachi. Pakistan Woman's team is a much better team than Sri Lanka and hence they are dominating the series and it was a good bet to pick even though the odds were really low. Sri Lanka woman teams once they loose their openers they struggle throughout the series and the odds drops considerably after that. Don't want to be harsh on Netherlands, because some of their top players were unavailable due to county cricket duties. But at the same time, inability to win a single match, even while playing at home is not defendable. And that too against a team which lost a home ODI series against Ireland. Netherlands is the only associate nation that is included for the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Super League. If they perform below expectation, then it will create issues not just for them, but for the other associate nations as well.

They scored 260 runs batting first and in reply Pakistan are in trouble as they need 145 runs in 20 overs with 5 wickets in hands. Srilanka hasn't won a single match so far in this tour, let's see if they can won today's game.

That is the problem. Their performance was not much below the expectation. But that is not enough. Considering their position in international cricket, they need to perform at a level which exceeds the expectation. Losing matches albeit giving a good fight will not work. They need to win matches. All three matches were close, and they should have won at least one of them. Let's not forget the fact that there is a sizable section within the ICC, which doesn't want teams like Netherlands and Ireland in international cricket.

I do agree that the wait period has to change and they should reduce the time gap to play for another country. I will not say that these rules should change completely if so it will be like Jamaican athletics for decades when there was a time where countries like US Canada and UK would scout for talents during their national tournament and then hijack young talents promising a good life and represent those countries and win Olympic gold for them.

It applies but those players have not played any international matches and hence allowed to play without any restrictions. If countries like UAE or similar countries wanted to buy someone who played International matches, the same rule is applicable for them as well.

I just learned from espncricinfo that Pakistan lost the last one day match, however, they have still won the series by 2 - 1.  Your wish of a complete whitewash didn't fulfill but I am sure this series will bring a big change to the women's cricket team and now they will feel confident to compete with the rest of the world.

Srilanka concluded there tour on winning note. This is there first victory in T20 and ODI played here in Pakistan. This victory proves that Srilanka has the capability to play good cricket. Once the current recession is over we will see some positive development in Srilanka women.
