This is too much for Calvin, more than a year of uncertainty is too much of an agony of a player that have family to feed and he got bills to pay also.

That's the problem of calvin because he didn't comply the requirement immediately, I think commissioner marcial is just basing on what he wants calvin to comply and if that is successfully complied, then he can come back and play, it's very simple.

It seems that Calvin is a victim of injustice here.

You can't say that, he was the one who violated the rules, he was just sanctioned and he hasn't complied yet.

If that's the decision of the commissioner then he just have to respect that and I think if he's eagerly wants to play the sooner then he should have comply no matter what hindrances he faced. I think that still remains a lesson for him to take until he fully realize what he done has really huge consequences even this scenario right now that he will not still be able to play even if he had been allowed by the commissioner to practice with the Phoenix Fuel Masters.

We thought for awhile that Abueva's comeback is going to be soon, but this news has ruined our excitement, if the betting was already created, then I might win as I would bet that Abueva will not come back in the first game of when the season resume. So, let's wait for him in the 2nd season then, at 32 there's still a lot of things he can do in the court.

Abueva Issue  .

We have different opinion on this issue and here's mine.

Calvin made a mistake and suffer the consequences of that one as he was suspended indefinitely by the commissioner which i thought Calvin deserves. More than a year have passed but still it's not been lifted yet as the commissioner said that Calvin need to complete some requirement before he will assess Abueva's fate. I think also that this is too much. We have seen worse scenario in the NBA than that of Calvin and Jones and NBA acted appropriately.

The only thing that would benefit if he will abuse his power on Abueva is their opponent as the Phoenix is a weak team without him, but I don't want to think of that kind of possibility as even with Abueva on the Phoenix playing, the top contenders are still the SMB team.

I am not going to talk about the PBA cause this is just an honest question, honest to goodness curiosity. The two other leagues that I think of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League and the ASEAN Basketball League. Since, I think, we don't have any separate threads here. I am curious whether there's betting going on - crypto or fiat, that is happening around. Is it local or is there like a system that like multiple cities system of betting.

Abueva needs to comply no question about that, but it's a while and there's a need for them to re-evaluates Calvin's case as he also have
family to support and without any assurance that he can still go back and play, he's family are also affected.

He's behaviors though might be the main concern but the sanctions that being implied to him might be enough. He's present to this league
adds spice as fans loves him for what he does inside the court.

PBA sticking to same format if Philippine Cup allowed to resume

THE PBA will stick to its usual format when the Philippine Cup is given clearance to resume its 2020 season.

PBA deputy commissioner and operations manager Eric Castro said the league will not be shortening its season if the government gives the go-signal to resume the games where it will still be played every Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays with occasional Saturday matches.

We will now enjoy the full schedule of the Philippine Cup and I'm really happy about this news as we will see more actions from our local players.

I like a no import game so I'm against coach Tab on this also, although I admire him as a coach as he has really managed well the Gilas Pilipinas team way back, it's different if we get a foreigner coach and we get him involve in the system compared to the true blooded Filipino who thinks of the culture of the Philippines.

I don't know why the PBA prefer to have more conference with imports and only one season which is all Filipino, I think it would be better if we only have conference with import.

I would love this also but PBA is a business, if all Filipino are playing, they might not able to get more viewers or attendees in the game. Just take a look at our Philippine team in the ABL, correct me if i'm wrong, they've got three imports and playing heavy minutes so what's left for the locals. Also, Fajardo did came from ABL before being drafted in the PBA and only a few people notice his potential because of the lack of playing time there.

One import is enough, coach Tab is wrong with saying more import is better although he will explain his side but the damage has been done.
He has to be careful with his words as he is the one who is going to handle the Gilas Pilipinas, so it's very discouraging to the local players.

TBH I am not aware that Fajardo started with ABL, I thought after college he was drafted by the SMB.
You are right, if Fajardo was not given good minutes in the PBA, he would not become the best player in the league now as this guy is not really a born basketball player, he started late in basketball already unlike other kids that from elementary, they already have a proper training on basketball.

Fajardo got the gift which is the height but he give his best to improve himself as a big man, and now he is unstoppable in the PBA.

Coach Yeng Yao of NLEX is in favor of resuming pba season season, he is more concern on the job of the people working in the organization.

I agree with him and that's the reason why I believe soon PBA will resume as this business will die if they will not be allowed to come back soon.
PBA is the biggest sports organization in our country, and they also contribute on taxes revenue of the government so I guess they are vital for the recovery of the economy.

PBA will not die, it's impossible don't worry even they will remain suspended for years. They are backed by large companies and can go back anytime they want. But the problem here is the approval from IATF. They can't just say "we want to resume". They need to propose their plan to IATF and wait for approval. As of now, what they are seeking to be approved is for teams to allowed to resume their practice.

We don't have the same quarantine status compare to other countries wherein they are allowed to resume their leagues, whatever the number of cases, as long as they will be approved by their government. Here in PH, allowed activities are based on what is covered to the quarantine status. To be specific, large sports events are not allowed during GCQ. They will only be allowed if Manila shifted to MGCQ which is unlikely to happen for now considering the daily confirmed case rates.

I also doubt that they will be given special consideration if PBA wants to resume under GCQ. That's why I also mentioned a few pages back if they can consider resuming outside Manila. But that will be a hassle process starting from choosing the event location, facilities, etc. I have never read any news too about some of their proposed plans like no audience, how the players will be quarantined, safety protocols, etc. so I guess they will just wait for IATF to approve large sports events (I understand though because of budget concerns), totally different to the eagerness of other leagues to resume on different countries even they have large confirmed cases compare to us.

Today, June 15th, Pres. Duterte will address the nation on whether or not to tighten or ease the lockdown restrictions in Metro Manila and other parts of the country. Daily reported cases since June are averaging around 500+ on which half of it mostly came from the capital, Manila.

With that reason alone, there is no chance that we might experience a less strict quarantine status. That will also affect the decision of PBA whether to still push the idea of resuming the league or make it completely canceled this year. June 15, July 15, August 15, only a few months to go before the PBA decision and hard to believed we will see a few reported numbers in the next months. I don't mind now if PBA will come back or not. I'm more hoping first for the decrease in daily reported cases.

There's no problem with us fans, we can wait, but the problem is within the organization, people will lose their job and we know at this very tough time, we can't lose a source of income. PBA players might not be affected because they are big earners but low earner people or those who are just earning a minimum salary within the organization, they are the ones who will be heavily affected.

Let us also consider PBA's contribution to the government financially when they return, so I guess if we will weigh between the negative and the positive effect, I think making PBA resume will give more benefit in overall.

Even before Junemar graduated college in University of Cebu, there's a buzz in town that San Miguel already own Fajardo lol. When Fajardo graduated college, he did not join the draft yet because San Miguel did not own the first over-all pick yet (my theory  ) so to keep him active they sign him on the ABL. In 2012, SMC paved the way by trading their veterans including the Cebuano Hotshot, Dondon Hontiveros to Barako Bull in exchange for the number one over-all pick and the rest is history lol.

Any thoughts about the chances of PBA returning this year?

I'm confused because even though Metro Manila remain that way, I can't let the fact the consistency of increasing positive cases everyday. Still terrifying.

And the fact that Cebu shifted back to ECQ, it means that there is always a possibility that the same will happen to Manila if the high rate of infection will continue.

Since August is the timeline for PBA to announce their final decision, I doubt they can resume this year. It's just around less than 2 months to go. PBA still needs more time to prepare even they are now allowed to resume so let's say if we will base it on how NBA works on their resume, it's 2 months after the decision. That's why PBA choose August so at least they can resume on either by September or October, enough to finish one conference by end of the year.

Still hoping though that we can see a decline in numbers within a month.

They didn't disclose their strategy but the health guidelines they proposed were received positively based on informal talks with the IATF.

However, as I also mentioned too on my other post, the approval will still subject to the quarantine level status of Metro Manila.
