It’s no secret that local coaches are paid less than foreign managers. The players are more bigger than the managers, that’s why the players do not respect local coaches because they know the coaches job is not secure and can be replace by a average foreign coach.

I really do not believe that players can be very disrespectful to local coaches and that the local coach, who is the manager of the team, tolerates it. Respect should not be as a result of pay grade; some of these footballers earn more than their club coaches, but they still show their maximum respect because these coaches have positioned themselves in the manner that the command respect. If any player disrespects you, regardless of the player's status, keep them out of the team. I don't think there is any player in the team aside from Lookman that is indespensable, and I don't see Lookman as someone in that line to be disrespectful.

I don’t agree with you. Very recently we saw the issue between Victor Osimhen and former Super Eagles manager, Finidi George. We also saw how the NFF handled the situation, the matter wasn’t settled the way I would expect. Osimhen did not receive any punishment for his outburst online neither was he asked to give a public apology to the manager. The inaction of the NFF in this matter indicates that some okayers are bigger than the coach. I think Finidi George even resigned immediately after that incident so that’s one example I can give in this discussion.

CAF needs to come up with a holistic approach on how to check the players both the ones at the local League and those playing in Europe, because looking at the finalist, they are all European base footballers,  this goes to show that our local League does not contribute in any way in bringing up good players that deserve this kind of award, instead we rely on Europe based Statistics to give an African award.

You aren't wrong but I don't support this initiative because we'll be downgrading our local leagues with this differentiation. I want to see the local players be able to compete with the international players and even win them but when we start getting someone killing it in the local league, he'll be bought by the European clubs immediately.

Maybe just a honouring acknowledgement for one of the best players in the local league but we shouldn't make a big deal out of it because I don't think other continent have such.

Few hours ago, Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the finalists for this year's African best player award and surprisingly to me Real Madrid and Morocco forward Brahim Diaz didn't make the shortlist. My prediction from the moment CAF first published the nominees for the award this year have been that Nigeria and Atalanta winger Ademola Lookman is going to win the award and that's because I feel he's had a better year than the other nominees but considering the contributions and achievements of Brahim Diaz this year, I feel he should've at least made the final shortlist.
What's your opinion about the finalists? Do you think they deserve to be there or is there any name you think is missing? Let me read your views.

Whoever supports Brahim Diaz <<<<<< as I don't think he should have merited the five man shortlist. Its not just about achievement but also your work rate. Now tell me, what did he di fir Real Madrid to win the league and champions league? Hakim did well with assist for PSG,  Serhou did for Stuttgart last season,  Lookman did for 9ja and Atalanta same for Adigra who did with Brighton but can say same for that goalie. Is he shortlisted because of that penalties saved? Lmao!

Ronwen Williams didn't make the shortlist because of the heroic penalty saves he made in South Africa's quarter finals game against Cape Verde in the 2024 CAF African Cup Nations tournament but because he was one of the stand out players in that competition as well as his performances for his club. Williams actually deserves his place in the final shortlist for African best player but I'm very certain that he'll not win the award.

I think CAF is also considering the home based players and players that only plays for Africa and not Europe, but if you see their respective performances of the local based players in the Africa Nations Cup, you will agree with me that the tournament they used to play is not professional enough for the players to outshine the other players that have experienced playing with world class players across the globe.

I am very sure their nominations will be based on general performances in all competitions which the local based players will also be considered, but they will be eliminated at some stage since there are other quality players that are better than them and they are all Africans so no need to consider where they are playing for since they are Africans.

Ademola Lukman is my favorite to win this award because he outshine all of the finalist in my opinion.

Simon Adingra of Côte D'Ivoire and Brighton, Guirassy for Guinea and Borussia Dortmund, Acharaf Hakimi for Morocco and PSG, Ademola Lookman for Nigeria and Atalanta, and Ronwen Williams are all names on the finalist of the African Best Player award but I don't agree with CAF on this list. I don't think Hakimi and Guirassy performed well enough to warrant been named as finalist of CAF award for the best African player. In as much some people may think Diaz deserves to make it to the final list, I don't see what he did that warrant his name been among the finalist.

You are not far from telling the truth. The difference between our local players and foreign players is PR. If the right PR is presented to Africa local players they will be worthy enough to compete for the African Best Footballer of the Year Award with international players.

Still on still, our international players will always appear better for the African Best Footballer of the Year Award because they are the ones that the world knows and recognizes than our local players who are not yet known globally.

We're at fault for allowing this to happen. I see some players are getting favourite treatment and this make them to feel above others. Victor Osimhen is likely going to get a more favourable treatment than others with less impact on the team and this make this players to feel like they're on top of the world.

When the player is earning far more than the coach, they begin to see their coach as less of a manager to tell them what to do. Money controls people and the players are no exception.

There's no way the national coach and the players will earn same amount as salary when the coach is just taking care of the players at the national level and the players are getting better pay at club side other than whatever they are earning while playing for Nigeria. Giving an excuse that it is because of money that the players don't respect the coach don't make sense at all because as professional players, money should never never be a reason why you should disrespect a coach.

Playing for your nation is a previledge And if f you're a coach that get to take charge of the national team, it's something that you should see as a previledge and so get the players to be at the best of behaviors that will give you the best of working environment so you can get the desired result. Most local coaches we've had are former players of the super eagles and for that, why should any of the playes disrespect them? It's just that this current set of the super eagles have been hyped and they've gotten to close to fans such they lack to sense of privacy which can be distracting sometimes. Even Ronaldo has some sort of autonomy because of the kind of influence he has but his coaches still finds a way of relating well with him so it doesn't look like he's being disrespectful. The foreign managers only have that ability of carrying their self regardless of how much they are earning and that directly commands respect from the players.

There is no difference between the international players and the local ones since they all have the ability to score goals and do better with time. What makes an international players different from local ones is the recognition and their worth. The problem is that many local players especially those ones in the local leagues are not really respected because many believe they don't have the qualities to compete in the international stage. Another thing that makes football unique is the amount of experience you have gain to make swift decisions when you are in a particular situation in the pitch. Experienced players would not have to think for too long before they get going to make an impressive movement that will end up in goals.

I have know this for several years, back when I had the opportunity to stay with a state team in a hotel I saw the height of insult on coaches players where so rude and they do not want to abide with regulations installed by the coaches and since this has happened even in the state team I knew the national team will still have to face bigger issues than I have seen because those who have made it far in the Europe feels that they have all it takes and playing in the local team is just like having a friendly match that doesn't require much of coaching and this makes them more disrespectful than you can imagine. I have once heard a player in our national team say he can buy the coach so he shouldn't talk to him like he owns him for just playing in the national team, this is one big statement that can destabilize any human.

I agree with you. I don't see much difference between a local player and an international player. In football what matters most is your ability and skills to make a different in a particular match. You can still be an international and experienced players yet a local player can still be better than you. Football is a team game and requires team effort to succeed, for me be you an international player or a local player as long as you are fit and capable to play and deliver then you are good.

This is true, some of the European base players feel they have made so much money and fame and so they should be given all the respect that should be given the coach and they sometimes feel they are more experienced because they are playing at the international level that is a concern the NFF should look into and make sure these players give the coach the respect they really do deserve.

I was marvel at how he spoke those Yoruba words to Nigerians, bro must have been training to so hard to express those words. Anyways, he tried because he wasn't raise and brought up in Nigeria but regardless, the blood is ticker than water they say because Nigeria is in the blood and he represents us very well. We have now won Afocon player of the year two times in a season, it's going to be a very long night between my handle and the Ghanians.

Honestly, impressed by Afcon organizers that they didn't play this one like they made Balon D'or so controversial, it would have been a long night of war between Nigerians on Twitter(X) and any country that win the award but they did what was deserving. Well deserved award. Congratulations to Ademola Lookman for winning the CAF Mens player of the year award and for his relentless efforts since Atalanta won the Europa league last season, he has been very consistent in performance, comports himself, humbles himself, has a good relationship with his teammates and coaches. There could not have been anyone that worth the award this year other than Lookman. It's a win win for Nigeria at large because it's not easy to win the prestigious award for last year by Victor Osimhen (Nigerian) and this year, Ademola Lookman (Nigerian) also won the award. Hoping for more good performance by the Super Eagles players and not only about Ademola Lookman. Hopefully, Nigeria will still win the award next year. Congratulations once again Lookman.

Mahmoud Ibrahim Ibrahim El Khatib won the award as a local based player but foreign based players dominated the award. North African local leagues are the best in Africa in terms of quality, organization and players's earnings. But I suspect that since after the Arab Spring the quality has reduced. Until African local leagues become well organized and receive the right attention, the player who plays abroad will always win the award. CAF will not overlook players who are making waves on a well packaged league and focus on an African league that has low standards.

You are right, CAF need to look for ways to make African football better than it is now so that home based players can always be rated high.

By the way, congratulations to Ademola Lukman on his well deserved award, I think he is the best player in the whole over Africa based on his last season’s performance and even this season. He has started performing really well again this season ahead of another African Footballer of the year award.
