Erick Chelle has drawn his player list and a notable absentee is Kelechi Iheanacho. I think it’s reasonable as his form has dipped and he has struggled for playing time.

I think it is very important for the new coach to select players that are based on merits and not based on name or old glory because the games that are upcoming are very important games and games that we cannot afford to lose. If Victor Osimhen is not fit for the game, the coach should drop him. It should be essential for the new coach to build a team that can function with or without any particular player.

Talking about players, I wish that New Manchester United player Dorgu was playing for Nigeria instead of the Danish national team.

Omitting Kelechi Iheanacho from the Super Eagles list for the upcoming games I don't think was a bad decision by the new Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle. The Imo State born attacker have struggled to shine this season both for clubs and country and considering the fact that the Super Eagles needs to win the two FIFA World Cup qualifying games in March, players that should be called up have to merit their place so it's a good call.

I support you on this, Eric Sékou Chelle was chosen for a reason and he is doing a brilliant job there. I wouldn't like to praise him just yet because he is still very young in that position but he has done many things that aligned with my expectations, at least to some reasonable extent. We need enough overhauling in the Super Eagle squad, seeing the regular faces who are not performing pisses me off. As for Kelechi Iheanacho, I don't know what this guy can possibly do, he has been struggling in Middlesbrough, even on loan, so I don't expect such a guy to be a point of debate.

Actually am one of those guys that is critical of this choice of manager Eric sekou chelle, not because of his nationality, no, but because of his lack of experience in managing a top national side like the super eagles, and I believe that the only reason Nigerians are still calm is that the super eagles has not played in any competitive match under his watch, but if he can get the super eagles back to the level they are expected to be, am very sure that the Nigerian fans will definitely fall in love with him, because we are very passionate when it comes to football and our super eagles, so for his own good, he really needs to start strong to silent doubters, if not, the pressure plus the criticism he might face might be too much for him to handle which will be the beginning of his end as the manager of the super eagles.

Then as for the likes of  kelechi iheanacho and other out of form players, that's left for the manager to decide if they will be invited or not, but if he is not following the wind and he actually knows what he is doing, kelechi iheanacho and other less active players should be drop from the super eagles.

Whatever the outcome we get at the end of the day we'll have Eric Chelle responsible for it, it's makes it imperative that the coach makes every necessary decision he believes could give him the results we want. And it's true, Iheanacho hasn't really made some attractive performances this season in all competitions so I don't see why dropping him for some player that could beat fit in the position is raising much dust from some fans.  We just have to win two crucial game to qualify for the WC and for that certain hard decisions needs to taken. All what we want is that Nigeria qualifies.

Te decision of the coach is not what most of us should debate on, he is the person in the rightful position to make the best selection to represent Nigeria in the WC qualifying matches. Just one mistake can make it all go wrong and miss the qualification for the World Cup. Super Eagles can’t afford to miss the World Cup for two consecutive times, it will only make our rating lower in the world rating of soccer. If a player is used and didn’t performed well, fans will still criticise his choice of not picking another player they feel he’s more fit for the game. In all, the decision lies on the coach and what he does is for the country and also for him to keep his job, he won’t make the wrong selection knowing well the repercussions of it.

Chelle knows what's at stake for Nigeria in this WC qualification and if he chooses to take the risk of not calling certain players who he thinks that their current form wouldn't fit in his team then so be it. There's some truth in what he said but the way he said it that's what I have issues with. Him talking down on the AFCON was the problem for me but the truth is if we have a player that achieved the same thing an African player achieved but he wins the AFCON while the other player wins the Euros, the vote will always go for the player with the Euro because we African don't value our own tournaments.



You'll see players rejecting to represent their country because they want to stay fit for the games in Europe or you'll see them not give their best when it comes to AFCON but play out their blood in the premier league or other league. We first have to value our own before others give us our accolades. But though nothing is stopping Mo Salah from winning the Balon d'or if he wins the premier league, champions league even without doing well in the AFCON.

How can the AFCON not be a major tournament but the rest of the world is suppose to accept that the Euros and Copa America is a huge tournament but when it comes to an African tournament, the story changes. We have to accept that African sports are not developing to the same level as European and Latin American sports because there is a lot of corruption. AFCON is not at the same level as EURO. Here in my country, I have never seen many people in bars watching AFCON games. They only watch my country's games and then leave.

But when there are Euro games, there are TVs everywhere in my country and lots of people are watching. Hotels and restaurants create special packages in which people pay and have VIP access to watch Euro games, with good food and wine. But they don't do that for AFCON.

Unfortunately, we have corrupt and incompetent leaders. While the Europeans, despite having some corruption, are competent, the Euro has good marketing, has high-quality national teams. All Euro games are good to watch. As an African, I can't watch the AFCON games because I fall asleep, I rarely watch the games of my country's national team. But in the past, when Cameroon, Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Egypt had good national teams, I watched the AFCON games. Today, our national teams are a disaster in the World Cup.

Africa pattern of playing football is boring and sometimes not interesting to watch. No doubt Africas especially Nigeria has good and experience players playing in various clubs in Euro and other parts of the world,you will see them on form,scoring goals for their clubs but immediately they are invited to play for their home country,
Some of the players will not even honor the invitation and the ones that accepted to play for their home country will start playing football like inexperienced players, like amateurs and even to score become a problems.
I don't know why it's now a traditional that whenever our Nigeria players are invited to play for their country, they will start playing boring football.Most Nigerians prefer subscribing to European football, watching European matches that are interesting and fun than watching our boring Africa footballs.

I totally understand your point, the AFCON is not very presentable like other tournaments and sometimes it's often ruined by poor network coverage so so forth but that doesn't mean that one should disregard the tournament it's not as shitty as it used to be and for a pundit like Carragher to come talk thrash about it is very disrespectful, even though anyone has something to say it's definitely not him.

 Someone who's football career was thrash has no right to backlash a tournament, he hasn't won a major trophy not even the league trophy so I wonder why he'll come out to start backlashing the AFCON tournament, moreover it is some of the players from Africa that even makes the European Leagues and tournament interesting to watch, if African tournament is thrash like he things why then do European clubs buy African players.

Including Kelechi Iheanacho name on the list would have been encourage able for the player because he could regain his confident if it was lost for him, however the new super eagles coach has not played with him for a while to have concluded his incompetency because he only saw that Kelechi Iheanacho has not been doing well in Middlesbrough, so I think he should have just been on the list as a trial for few matches and if he did not prove to the coach then he should be on bench, though one thing I saw there was that the coach was not bias and he believes the list can fulfill his promise but in the field we would no.

I got that aspect of the coach responsibility to coordinate for the team, but it happens behind the scenes on several occasions that those in power will have to infiltrate on the decision making process for the team, this is mostly affected by the coach before being extended to the team performance and so on, that is why we should fight against any external influence that may perpetrate any decision making process of the team.

There is nothing special about the list since it contains the best Nigerian players currently. The only surprise in the inclusion of former captain Armed Musa in the list. I thought his time has passed and should take other roles in the national team. But he is such a great player that is performing pretty well in the local league with Kano Pillars. I am also pleased that the coach watched some Nigerian Premier League game and selected some home based players. I just hope to see a good game from the Super Eagles again.

Any team that see this list will be so scared to face Nigeria, Nigeria has good numbers of players playing in top clubs in all round Europe. in most club Nigeria players are the top man there, but when these players come to represent  the country game, they wont give out their best.

There is not fear for the super eagle anymore, every team play Nigeria  with the  hope to get the three points. Because of poor performance from the players, they really need to step their games for the jersey as their are doing for in their various clubs. The players Nigeria has is  able to win them any cup, the African best player is a Nigeria player and a top player for Atalanta. Good quality players with poor performance.

I agree with what you said, because every player has the right to fight for his team to get to the next round, and every player has the right to be in the position they want as long as they fulfill the conditions that have been set, because their struggle to get into the big competition is so big that they can determine their own direction and can be considered by their managers and coaches whether they have the right to be in that position or not, they have passed everything one by one so that they can fight for their respective clubs to go to the next round, that's all. it goes back to their respective teams whether they can fight or not.

From a year to another, the amount of change that you see on a single player is huge, that without counting injuries and hard punishments done for a reason or another. African players, as I always say, are quite fragile and their performance aren't very stable comparing to European or South American players for example.
There will be change for sure, and until then could Osimhen be more valuable for the team? or might he just vanish?

This is a good list, but how to use them to make sure this trophy follow super eagle this season is the major challenge because their coach use to select those that are loyal to him when he was looking for the coaching job, whether they are good or not he will use them to play the game. I notice that some super eagle coach don't use to value all those local players because they believed that those  Nigerian players playing international teams are more experience than those players playing in local team which is not true.

Super eagle coach will not force any premier league players to come home and play, but if they show interest and they have the capacity to represent their team, super eagle coach will consider such players because they need to win this trophy.

If dropping some players will bring changes in the team then it is fine, am not against any decision taken by the head coach but it must be taken for the good interest of the team.
Yea what am against is trying to play politics in the team because of people that facilitated his appointment, things should be adequately, the super eagles really needs to move forward, they have been lacking behind and for such to be achieved I think  the manager must do everything possible to perform his managerial duties without allowing individual interest to ruin what's needed to be done, yea definitely the manager will face public lashing if he doesn't do things according to the expectation of the citizens as you said.

Osimhen will be the least on the list to vanish, who is a better striker we have in the team compared to Osimhen, i don't know your reason for asking why Osimhen seems to be either valuable to the team or not, knowing he is in great form internationally at Galatasaray, the main goal scorer we have to build on to be left out in the squad list, first pick will be Osimhen when considering attackers. I have seen the list, comfortable with the names i see there especially the newly included players, we wait on the final list to know how the qualifiers will look like.

Of course Nigeria has several players scattered in many different leagues in Europe and this list is just tip of them all. I think these are just those in most top leagues that are in current good form. For Kelechi Iheanacho's case I think it's not yet guaranteed that he would make it to the 23 men final list. I feel it's just Chille approach on giving all the players a fair playing opportunity to work hard which will determine who deserves to be in the finalist and those that won't base on their standard and form

Any team that see this list will be so scared to face Nigeria, Nigeria has good numbers of players playing in top clubs in all round Europe.

I won't say so for myself, Nigeria shouldn't be too confident since the games ahead is a crucial two matches that means them qualifying to the WC or not. This is football and uncertainties do happen with the underdogs creating an off set when you least expected.
