1001  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Some helpful Telegram Bots to monitor Bitcoin TX, Fees, other TX and this forum on: May 07, 2023, 02:49:11 PM
Those bot operators will use data from available resources rather than running their own Bitcoin full nodes. If they rely on other parties to have data for their Telegram bots, they will have issues if those parties have problems.

It's good to mention those telegram bot notifiers but it's better if you mention some websites to check mempools and fee rates. Likely those bots use data from those websites
1002  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's with Bitcoin transaction fee? on: May 07, 2023, 02:37:36 PM
Bitcoin’s Frenzy of Activity Pushes Average Transaction Fee Over $7, Nearly 2-Year High

It is because of BRC-20 tokens and low quality projects try to migrate their projects to Bitcoin blockchain that is a biggest chain and can be helpful for them to catch attention of token fans. Those tokens can be weak, low quality but from what you have seen on Ethereum blockchain, Binance Smart Chain and other chains with smart contracts, you will see the same with BRC-20 tokens.

I guess it won't stop soon and the Bitcoin network, mempools will be more overloaded with those shit tokens.
1003  Other / Meta / Re: [Workaround] Automatically Save Text Written In Bitcointalk Editor on: May 07, 2023, 01:12:39 PM
I don't like to use those extensions because I prioritize my safety and security on my device first.

Convenience is not my priority as I can manually do it with Notepad, Word and so on. No need to use extensions which can save my time but it is not too much to sacrifice safety and security. A few seconds to copy and paste to save a draft is not annoying with me.

Browser extensions: more dangerous than you think
1004  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How Bitcoin Ordinal will waste block space? on: May 07, 2023, 01:03:36 PM
It is getting quite irritating that they seem to be spamming the blockchain just for fun. It’s basically trolling as its making fees so much more expensive. I can’t think of any reason that is attractive for somebody to desire to spam blocks with dumb ordinals.
I don't think they are doing it for fun. They are only participating in a game of greed and they chase for profit without any knowledge about Bitcoin blockchain and I am sure many of them don't know about fee rate, mempools.

I also really believe that they still feel comfortable with Bitcoin blockchain and transaction fee on it after familiar with hilarious expensive fee on Ethereum blockchain. Despite of recent rise, fee on Bitcoin blockchain is still cheaper than on ERC-20 chain.

We, as Bitcoiners on this blockchain, care about it but they don't care about that and still enjoy discount transaction fee on Bitcoin blockchain.
1005  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Are there boards or threads that a newbie is not supposed to post in? on: May 06, 2023, 03:57:01 PM
So for now the following boards are restricted: Archival, Serious Discussion, and Ivory Tower.
Serious discussion; Ivory Tower boards have restrictions years ago, not recently.
Honestly, I don't know when the restriction on Archival was applied but my guess is since 2018 with Enhanced newbie restrictions & requirements.

But it does affect:
 - Board restrictions
With a Copper membership, newbies can make threads in Archival.
1006  Other / Off-topic / Re: Was it that easy to learn a reputable member posting format? on: May 06, 2023, 03:39:34 PM
"The more you keep following people you don't know when you start acting like them" this made me to have this belief that I must certainly improved even though I am not exactly acting like them.
Following good posters and learning from them, then applying it in your writing, you will improve yourself more or less.

Some ways to improve your writing:
Basically, read more, write less and write as most succinctly as possible.
1007  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin open source wallets that support replace-by-fee (RBF) on: May 06, 2023, 12:50:33 PM
The mempool is at 151 sat/vbyte now. Because of RBF, I can use a fee rate of 20 to 30 sat/vbyte or lower fee rate and still be able to pump the fee if no confirmation within the time I am expecting.
151 sat/vbyte is at very tip of the mempool but it is not a highest fee rate used in waiting transactions in mempool currently or last 24 hours. The highest values are somewhere from 250 to 300 sat/vbyte (last 24 hours).

By mentioning 151 sat/vbyte, you are making newbies panic. They actually can get a confirmation in a next one to two blocks with 70+ or 80+ (80+ is better choice) sat/vbyte.

Quote
People should not be using wallets that do not support RBF.
First they should not use wallets in online accounts that are custodial wallets usually. With such wallets, they don't have Coin control feature so sure not have choice to control fee rate too.
1008  Other / Off-topic / Re: Recommended Google Authicator for Exchange Market account on: May 05, 2023, 04:39:50 PM
I am using Google Authenticator till this day and I have no single problem using this Authenticator application, I have use 4 different types of android smartphones and I have import my Google authenticator account from one phone to another till this day I have no single problem using Google Authenticator on those phones.
2FA - Important Precautions with Google Authenticator

It is not an open source 2-factor authentication application and if you are an open-source enthusiast, you will not like it and will find alternatives (open-source will be your main consideration).

You should prioritize open-source things as you can verify it or at least other prominent developers can verify it. If the community did not report shady malicious things with that application, it looks good enough. For close-source applications, nobody can verify codes.
1009  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [May 2023] Fees not low! Wait for opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs on: May 05, 2023, 03:17:38 PM
And if it's meaningless to Bitcoin, why do this on an expensive blockchain?
Bitcoin blockchain is less expensive than Ethereum blockchain. It usually gives cheaper transaction fee than Ethereum blockchain. It is very far since a last time I saw people complained that they had to spend $50 or $100 in transaction fee for their Bitcoin transactions. However, it was repeatedly reported with transactions on Ethereum blockchain.

Comparison in their average transaction fees: https://bitinfocharts.com/comparison/transactionfees-btc-eth.html#alltime

It makes me think they're only using Bitcoin to profit off it's popularity.
I agree with this point. Those shit BRC-20 meme coins try to exploit the popularity of Bitcoin.

And the people who are throwing their money at it have no idea what they're buying.
It is true too. They simply look for quick rich train and hope on BRC-20 meme train without knowing basics about Bitcoin and short lifespans of meme coins.
1010  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: They are milking money out of us on: May 05, 2023, 03:03:49 PM
AI technology and crypto is like a sea with a mixture of water and oil.

Focus on useful utilities that is sensible for crypto in general,  or just stick with Bitcoin, do not be one of those that will have horror stories to say about AI investments in future.
Cryptocurrencies are like stocks. If you have a company, have a product, have utility for your product, you will want to get money from it. Rather than stocks, they go with tokens that are more easily to be launched.

I don't think it is only limited to AI projects, but you can generalize it to altcoin projects which mostly are scam. Without real utility and many of them were launched with a trend. Although I have that stance about altcoins, I disagree with anyone to say altcoins are not needed for the growth of blockchain technology and cryptocurrency ecosystem. They are parts of the ecosystem and contribute for its growth as well as more regulations in this field.

Again regulations are necessary for cryptocurrency ecosystem and I disagree with anyone say regulations are bad for this ecosystem.
1011  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin doesn't give you instant 100 percent profits on: May 05, 2023, 01:51:26 AM
from my last research I didn't see where it was written bitcoin to be a Ponzi scheme or a quick get rich scheme to give you 1000x immediately you invested.
There are Ponzi teams tried to attract people to their models by using Bitcoin but Bitcoin is not responsible for their Ponzi scam.

Quote
Why can't you guys read before requesting for what could make you rich over night.
Because they are too greed and with this attitude, they will be easily attracted by scam groups like Ponzi.

Quote
Please bitcoin doesn't need to be pressured in other to gain profits and for you to enjoy the investment the only alternative is to choose long term investment period maybe from 1 year to 10 years
It is a zero sum game so in this market, there are always winners and losers at any specific point of time or within any period. Even when Bitcoin made its all time high to above $69k, there are losers, not only winners.

Fortunately, if you invest in Bitcoin and hold your bitcoins long enough, you will reduce risk of loss by the market volatility while increase your chance to see profit.

1012  Other / Meta / Re: Can one use UI to correct grammatical errors? on: May 05, 2023, 01:20:04 AM
it is AI not UI Smiley, I was wonder what you are trying to say..
Me too when I read the topic title.

Not only AI but we also can use Grammarly to check grammar and fix bugs. Personally I think the Free version of Grammarly is goo enough to use for grammatical checking.

It is useful for people who want to improve their writing skills including grammar issues.
1013  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How much time it takes for single block confirmation? on: May 04, 2023, 02:45:44 PM
In average, it is about 10 minutes between two blocks. In specific, it can be any time from 1 second to 10 minutes or more than 10 minutes.

BTC empty blocks (2009 - 5 May 2020): miners, size, daily, monthly, yearly stats.

It is my thread with some charts and statistics for empty blocks and one block before those, time gaps between those blocks. You can see how different time gaps are. It is similar for non empty blocks and one-block before or after them.

Time gap:
Code:
    variable |         N      mean        sd       p50       p25       p75       min       max
-------------+--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    emptygap |      76.0     348.4     497.9      69.5      26.0     505.5       1.0    2421.0

1014  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can't do something else offline, is this something wrong? on: May 04, 2023, 02:04:38 PM
My end goal is retirement through Bitcoin, I have no other dream than this, and I am not a dreamer but a doer.
If your end goal is like that, why not simply focus on what you are doing. Invest in Bitcoin, Mining bitcoin and hodl it.

Expanding what you are doing to other things is risky as firstly you are not familiar with it and you will face with higher risk to lose your capital. No guarantee that if you copy a business model which is profitable under management of your friend, you will gain profit too. If you lose your capital with kind of unfamiliar business, your dream will become farther a little bit.

It can be used for many types of account, not only exchange account. Your topic title is not general enough.

If you want an open source 2-factor authentication application, let's consider.

1017  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Core fees on: May 04, 2023, 07:18:00 AM
OR other alternative... i just buy new brand new Notebook for 500$, i only download bitcoin core and import its keys there... with this there is no way a malicious software or any attacker could steal my keys.. because Notebook is new.
It is true at beginning when you use the Notebook a first time.

However if you use it for other things, with time and with your usages, you will probably connect your Notebook with more potential threats and that device will become less safe over time.

It depends on how you use a device, new or old is only one factor.

Best is using it as a device for your air-gapped wallet or as one of co-signers of your multi-sig wallets (like 2/2 multisig wallet or 2/3 multisig wallet)
1018  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Robbing bitcoins from a bitcoiner on: May 02, 2023, 03:21:28 PM
question about physical bitcoins:

what type of safety a individual should take to protect bitcoins physically like cascusious coins.
You have to trust the company which launch their collectible coins but is trusting any third-party is a good idea to start with?

Bitcoin with its technology, private keys, mnemonic seeds give us a perfect chance to have our own bank and we don't have to trust any third-party to secure our coins. Now, you want to take risk and bet that your trust will not be betrayed by any third-party company or any middle man.

Trust no one in Bitcoin (Coldkey story).

If you trust, you can end like people who trust Yogg and his works.

Another important point is "Keep your mouth shut off as much as possible". It's to keep your secret that nobody or limited people can know that you are a bitcoin investor".
If you are always talkative and tell everyone around you that you have bitcoins and how you store your bitcoins, like I bring my coins around with my phone, tablets, usb, hardware wallet, you can be robbed on road or similar.
1019  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which YouTube channels and pages to follow for update on market news and TA? on: May 02, 2023, 03:13:03 PM
Seriously OP, I think Youtube is the absolute worst place to research crypto.  Even if you search for a specific topic, all of the results that pop up are going to be from professional Youtubers who are most likely making their living from ad/sponsorship revenue rather than anything related to cryptocurrencies.
Bitcoin videos on Youtube....and a suggestion for our possible BCT channel.

I only follow Youtube channels which have resources to learn technical things. Most of Youtube channels are incentivized by owner intention to make money from it. Their reviews, analyses can be nothing more than sponsored resources and to attract curious watchers, followers in order to increase their total followers and get higher payrate for their videos.
