1081  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: If you quit that's when you lose! on: July 21, 2023, 12:09:19 AM
There's a popular  remark among gamblers in the part of  my country I reside. The saying is expressed like this "if you quit that's when you lose".  They use this statement to encourage and give futuristic hope to themselves that no matter how much they loss today or how many wagers they have lost they don't need to quit as it's possible you may be the next jackpot winner tomorrow. For it's like say don't quit yet there may be a light at the end of the tunnel.

From what I observed from this statement is that, many of these gamblers have been misled by this very remark of a hypothetical hope which has liquidated their account.  While some who would have quit gambling long ago still hedge their hope on the idea behind the statement and keeps wagering.

Now let's take this to a discuss; how correct is this statement? And is there any similar statement like that in your home-country that's popularly used among gamblers to encourage themselves from quiting gambling because they're losing?
Or would you allow your decision to quit gambling to be affected by any popular statement among your fellow gamblers or it's a no no thing for you?

Thats basically what gambling is. Convincing yourself that you can make the impossible possible. But people tend to go too far, they start mixing up reality with their fantasy world. That is what leads to the biggest losses. Gambling itself is fun, if you go small. But going big should be avoided because going big always stems from going with your "gut feeling" or emotions. No matter how lucky you think you are, you should never keep throwing your money into the fire just because you have lost control.

Anyone who says "if you quit that's when you lose" is an irresponsible person who's advice should never be followed. That kind of statement is mathematically untrue. If you quit, you win by not losing even more money.
1082  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Will You Stop Gambling Even If You're Doing Great If This Happens To You on: July 20, 2023, 07:43:40 PM
You are doing great in sports betting you Are wining a good sum and you are on the way mastering a good method in sports betting finally you have come to a point that all the years of perseverance is paying off then you're rich father  decides that he will disinherit you if you do not stop gambling because he thinks that money that you are going to inherit will just vanish because of your addiction to gamble you will have to stop gambling for a minimum of five years.
You are going to inherit amount that you cannot win in sports betting possibly multi million

Will you explain to him that you are doing great and you are not a compulsive gambler
Will just stop gambling  and be practical and get that multi million inheritance
You'll just go on with your passion and just forget the money that your father will give to you as inheritance.

Let's discuss this scenario is possible

Well I think the choice to disinherit you is the father's and must be thusly respected. His conditions and views on life and morality are not the same as yours. So either you change to somebody who has absolutely different views on the world or you stay who you are and reject his money. I for one would not bend to somebodies conditions just for the sake of money. But some people are willing to play that role and wait for their inheritance to come. By the time it comes, you yourself will perhaps be an old man. What a waste of life. But that is just my opinion.

However, if such a small habit such as gambling is standing in your way, then that is a sign that you have a serious gambling problem and you should probably rethink your life if you are weighing a fortune against gambling. So in this particular situation, I would stop gambling. Because gambling should not be such a manipulative force in your long term decisions.
1083  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can I save my brother by investing in btc now? on: July 20, 2023, 06:09:15 PM
Thanks so much for your advice, I wouldn't think of btc until there is no way out, China also has organizations similar to the gofundme, We raised $20,000 before the bone marrow pairing, China has a very large population, And countless patients similar to ours every day, You can't raise all the treatment, We went to Beijing for medical treatment, I quit my job to take care of my younger brother, But leukemia is not a free disease in China, Only the types of hypertension can be reimbursed, And they also need to be paid for the insurance by the company every month, My younger brother is only seventeen years old, He is a student, Have not yet, As you have said, I have spoken to my friends and family, All the available channels were tried, $30,000, But they understand me very well, This is an interest-free loan, There are no time constraints available, My parents have a house, But in the countryside of China, Cannot mortgage sufficient funds, And they need a place to live, I own a house myself, Currently in the loan, To want a mortgage, Need two signatures from me and my wife, But my wife does not agree, My wife has asked me for a divorce several times, And I understand her very well, I don't want to say that China is bad, But in China, poor people with leukemia almost equals death, But I was my only younger brother, I grew up with him, He got very good grades, Great chance to get ahead. If I can choose now, I would like to replace my brother with leukemia. The above is all machine translation, considering the expression is not clear, sorry

If you cannot crowdsource the money then you will need to find another loan. I imagine that if somebody loaned you 75k, you could invest that 3k into Bitcoin and pay back your debts with the profit from Bitcoin within 15-20 years, if everything keeps going well for Bitcoin. But that would mean convincing a person or a bank to give you a loan for a very long amount of time. Either way you will still have to pay that loan back and depending on your Bitcoin profits, you might either pay it all back easily, or you will spend many years indebted, having to work the loan off.
1084  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can I save my brother by investing in btc now? on: July 19, 2023, 07:53:14 PM
sorry,I come from China,The following is translated by machine ,My brother has leukemia. I have already owed  30,000 US dollars. But my brother still hasn't improved. I finally got the bone marrow last week. The doctor said it would cost about 75,000 US dollars. My total assets are about 3,000 US dollars now. If I want to treat my brother. Is it too late to buy btc now?thank you

Bitcoin is not a get rich quick scheme. For you to make 75k USD out of your 3k USD you would need the Bitcoin price to go to 25x higher than it is now. Thats 750000 USD/BTC. The chance of that happening within the next 5 years is very low. Perhaps withing 10-15 years, sure. But since your brother's condition is so dire, it seems like he cannot wait that long.

Your best chance at getting 75k USD in a short time is either a loan or a go-fund-me.  In other words, crowdsourcing the money. But you will need to provide proof that you have a brother and that he truly has leukemia and that you do not have the money to pay for his treatment. Without that proof, nobody will send you any money.

As I said, try gofundme.com and provide proofs.
1085  Economy / Economics / Re: Population: Economic strength or weakness on: July 19, 2023, 03:50:42 PM
We have had different analyses about the implication of population on the economy of a nation. Some economists will argue that the reason for the underdevelopment of most countries is because of overpopulation. Hence they are advised to cut down the population through diverse means like birth control and so on. In other countries, economists are also predicting economic woes because of underpopulation. These nations have been advised to increase the birth rate through diverse means. Some nations are giving citizens diverse welfare packages to increase the number of children they have. Some are encouraging immigration to fill the gaps created by the labor shortages.

A close look at this situation shows that many of these overpopulated nations mostly in Africa and Asia are underdeveloped. While these underpopulated nations are economically buoyant. I think the reason for the poverty of these developing nations is not the population but bad governance and the inability to maximize and distribute available resources equally.  We cannot deny the fact that these overpopulated nations are economically important to these developed nations in terms of human resources. And they contribute immensely to the development of these first-world nations in terms of cheap labour.

How do you think these developed nations will fill vacancies in their nations and get cheap labor if the population of these developing nations is reduced?

For the price of Bitcoin, the more people the better.

That is an interesting question. How many people are too many people and how few people are too few for an optimal economy, given the fact that we have only planet earth to live our lives on? People think we can terraform mars or populate the moon but that those are all dreams. People would rather live underground before having to live in radioactive deserts with no atmosphere. So we definitely have a limited amount of room for human beings. Some say 10 billion but thats a crass underestimate, if you ask me. I am sure we can easily get to a hundred billion people, but everyone would have living conditions like the poorest people in China. So, they would not have a very good life. So economically, that would be everyone being driven by a need to survive, not thrive. The difference between rich and poor would be hopelessly, extremely far apart. Basically like in the movie "In Time".

Although anyone with a single Bitcoin would be a Trillionaire. So feel free to save Bitcoin ahead of time and your great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandchildren can be rich. If nobody spends or sells the BTC before... Roll Eyes

1086  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Mistake that prevented your big win. on: July 19, 2023, 03:27:57 PM
As a gambler,I know that we have done so many mistakes in the pass base on our bets and wrong strategy or calculations that we have done which led to losing the game that was suppose to make you win big. I want to use myself as an example,I love sportbet and I bet more on it. Last months I placed my bet on 7 games that was to be played for two days. When the 5th game was played, all matches came out as predicted and I was called by the casino,to offer me a cash out of $200 in my local currency and I refused it because if the other two games was played and the I got the predictions right. I will win $1200,so I turned the offer down. The painful part of it was that the two games were to kick off on the same time, and after the games,my prediction for the two games was wrong. I felt so bad because I allowed greed to control my emotion. For this reason,I having decided that when ever I have an opportunity to cash out again,I will always go for it,instead of thinking that I can win all the money.
So my question is this,as a gambler what mistake have you made when gambling that prevented you from winning big.
Let's discuss.

The biggest mistake that us gamblers usually make, is not cashing out when we win. Especially if like in your story we win a nice amount of winnings that we should definitely cash out. My story is basically the same except I should have known when to stop. I did not. So, I lost a good amount of money in a poker game. I felt the need to go all in, like an idiot, all because I thought I had a nice set of cards which felt like an almost unbeatable hand. So my ego took over and said; hey, We are going to win anyway, so might as well make our profits the maximum amount... Shocked

Of course I lost. Just goes to show never to let your emotions take over.
1087  Economy / Gambling / Re: How much time for a Duelbits withdrawal? Been 24h+ on: July 19, 2023, 12:05:50 PM
20 thousand usdt, not 20 dollars. No they did not ask for KYC.

Customer support said they don’t know why it is being delayed and that they don’t have any timeframe on when this could be resolved.

On the other websites I also withdrew these amounts and sometimes much more (180k on Rollbit).

Anyway no problem I understand, but I am only asking others who play there about their experience, just to know what to expect. I’ve seen the thread about the 500k win but that’s on another level.

That is very strange. If customer support itself has told you that they do not know the reason for the delay then perhaps something went wrong? Did you check to see if you withdrew to the correct address? I always triple and quadruple check, especially with such large amounts of money. You need to be 100% sure you withdrew to the correct blockchain, as well. Was this USDT address a ERC20 or A TRC20 or some other blockchain?

Duelbits is a very well known and trusted online cryptocurrency gambling casino platform so they would not try to lie or scam you out of your money.

Have there been any updates since the customer support last contacted you?

Blackrock CEO Larry Fink Says Crypto Will 'Transcend Any One Currency' — Sees Broad-Based Global Interest.

https://news.bitcoin.com/blackrock-ceo-larry-fink-says-crypto-will-transcend-any-one-currency-sees-broad-based-global-interest

All countries in the world including America are slowly going to establish BTCBitcoin as the only coin, Although it is a long-term plan but we hope it will be implemented.

I am going to have to go ahead and quote JJG here: WTF IS CRYPTO?

Do institutional investor CEO's really not know how to spell Bitcoin? Or maybe they think crypto is another word for Bitcoin? Its the only way to explain their crappy investment decisions...
1089  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: XRP - yes or no? on: July 18, 2023, 06:36:07 PM
I have only been into XRP for 2-3 months and I haven't sold yet.

Even I have been left feeling ‘is that it?’ as it didn't even 2x in price after everyone saying it will 5-10x once they win the case. It has even been relisted on Coinbase and that doesn't seem to have done anything.

I will continue holding and wont sell any until I 3x my money at least which would mean XRP going to $1.25.

If I had been buying the last 2 years like many have then I would be disappointed with the outcome so far but I do think we will see another pump soon and eventually get past $1.

It's very likely XRP will cross the $1 mark after the partial victory in the court. How long will that last is a mystery. I really hope that XRP gets used for real world applications instead of being a purely-speculative crypto asset. Now that XRP is not a security, we should see additional exchanges listing it soon. Coinbase might get back to XRP trading because of the court ruling. Only time will tell us if this happens or not.

I'm glad XRP won the battle against the SEC, even though I don't like the way it's organized (centralization). This will make the crypto industry flourish once more within the US. Who knows if XRP keeps soaring until it becomes the third-largest cryptocurrency by market cap? Just my thoughts Grin

I think most people were expecting the SEC to lose anyway and they have been doing so for a long time now. So while the news about XRP winning the court case is a welcome one, I do not doubt that the SEC will file to take it further in a second court case. So we are back to where we started. Nothing to be excited about.

Furthermore the ruling was only a partial victory since the court ruled that institutional sales of XRP were considered securities anyway. So can we really consider the whole thing to be a win? That is hard to tell... Huh

And even if we do eventually see a full win, that will have changed nothing about there being better altcoin alternatives to XRP. So again, nothing exciting there.

Could XRP reach 1 dollar? Very likely, yes. I just do not see the latest news as a reason to invest because the current excitement and the current price is currently based entirely all on FOMO.

1090  Other / Politics & Society / Re: How the world look like If russia vs Western nukes on: July 18, 2023, 06:08:28 PM
So If USA vs russia fight with nukes how everything look like
People who never experinced nuke war what they should know?
Will the internet connection Will be disturbed Also when it's war i still want to trade online.
Like how powerful the nuclear Are ... How to keep still good life Even when nuke hit ?
Is home basement good idea ?

Any survival in a nuclear war will be short term. In the long run extinction of the human race as well as most (if not all) life on earth is guaranteed. In fact, if such a war would happen, the lucky ones will be the people who get incinerated within a millisecond. Everyone else will die slowly from radiation poisoning or just starvation. Because plants will not grow during nuclear winter. Sure, the ultra rich might have self sustaining bunkers but that will be all for naught on a dead, radioactive planet. They will simply be the last to die.

But let me save you the suspense: You are not part of the ultra rich.
1091  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling everywhere on: July 18, 2023, 02:11:10 PM

So if you use our saved money to stake a bet, what really comes next to your mind? I will like us to talk about this.

We hope to win. That's the point of gambling so far. If you are optimistic all time time you will definitely keep trying and come up with strategy not to lose a lot of course. If you have played rock, paper, scissors your objective is to outsmart the other party by thinking which will be his next cast. They can come up a strategy with this.

Winning makes you profit. Gamblers will find something to reason and justify their gambling. Why save when you can profit when you get lucky.

Well no, rock, paper, scissors is a game of skill not a game of luck. Its all about that split microsecond where you can see your opponents move unfolding and you have exactly that microsecond of time to make your decision of which counter-move to make. Gambling wins can also make you profit but unfortunately you will not be in control of whether you have a higher chance of winning or not. Unless of course we are talking about sports betting. With sports betting at least you can do some research on the players and so on. More research in that regard does give you a higher chance to win.

But gambling games like slots? You are completely relying on luck. And the probability is shifted against you in the house's favor.
1092  Economy / Gambling / Re: FreeBitco.in is no longer a KYC free casino! (New terms) on: July 18, 2023, 01:24:31 PM
Something about the timing of this news is kind of strange to me... Centralized platforms, whether online cryptocurrency gambling casinos or cryptocurrency exchanges are going through with implementing KYC, seemingly as though they have been forced to do so quietly by the government.

A few days ago Kucoin exchange switched to KYC, as though under some coercion. Despite being non-KYC for such a long time now. Now Freebitco.in is going KYC too? Something is going on... A few months back people started warning others to take out their money from centralized exchanges...

Although I do not mind following anti-money-laundering laws and such, I am very skeptical about providing government documents which can be used by identity thieves to take out loans and commit crimes in your name. ID theft has ruined lives.

We need decentralized technology to up its game and we need more advanced decentralized gambling platforms as well as exchanges. Undecided

^Okay, with all the discussion around AI generated content, I want to conduct a little test to see if you guys can discern AI from reality.  Obviously, this is an informal test but here goes.  (feel free to use one of those detection tools on it as well).  It's not necessary for everyone to respond to this post - I'll update this post with an edit at  ~2100 UST to let you know.  Oh, regardless of what comes after this, I still love you JJG Smiley

I just wanted to bring up a point about JJG's forum postings. Don't get me wrong, the guy knows his stuff and has some really useful insights. But seriously, he uses way too many words to make a simple point! I mean, come on, who has the time to read through a novel every time he posts something? It's like he's trying to show off how smart he is by using a million unnecessary words. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate a well-thought-out argument, but sometimes brevity is key.

To me it is more interesting why we think it is written by an AI or human, instead of using some detection tool. This would be an interesting school assignment @Homer Smiley. Why I think it is AI-generated:

- It uses "don't get me wrong" twice in the same alinea, something humans get taught to avoid (re-using the same words).

- "the guy knows his stuff and has some really useful insights" says exactly nothing, it attempts to disguise knowing any specifics about JJG. Except for the prompt it has been given that JJG uses lots of words trying to get a point across.

1095  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Easy or hard to quit? on: July 17, 2023, 04:25:30 PM
Can you quit gambling if you make a life changing money and never go back to gambling?

I asked this because those who made some money through gambling near me always go back to gamble and they end up losing everything they once made through gambling.

Is it fine to say that people should not go back into gambling once they made high amount of money? Because the chance of losing that money again is very high, even if they don't use all the money to gamble at once, gambling can take it all back in time.

Have you ever won a high amount of money from gambling and managed to not lose them all back to gambling? And to date, you are still gambling?

Would I still be tempted to gamble, even though I made a life changing decision not to gamble, ever again? Even if that meant I had made enough money to last me 1000 lifetimes?

The answer to that question might be a bit irrational.

I think that even though we all here think we ultimately have full control over ourselves and our desires, the simple and unshakeable truth is: We are only human. And being human comes with a loss of control.

I like gambling and I do enjoy it, as many of you do. And having made it into an enjoyable hobby, I do not think I could resist the temptation and never gamble again. Because at some point, I would give in my urges.

It is true that we as good human beings also need some fun, but sometimes it is difficult because many do not know healthy fun and that includes being able to control emotions and performing many functions, including putting everything on a scale, not go crazy, and control impulses above all, when we play we have many impulses and that is what leads us to make bad decisions.

If we had the coldness of a robot to manage our own emotions, we would be very advanced beings and with many things that we can achieve, but it is difficult, very difficult to control emotions, and even though it is something we can do ourselves, we get into our minds that we are invincible when we play and that is when we lose the most money.

I agree, we do sometimes get into a particular mindset of being invincible because we manage to convince ourselves of that fact by manipulating ourselves emotionally. But that again only goes to show that no matter how faultless and amazing we human beings think ourselves to be, in the end, we are still quite fragile when it comes to matters of the mind.

So that being said, I think nobody who makes gambling losses should be too hard on themselves and they should remember that making such bad decisions is all a part of being human.

Next time they think about taking huge risks, they will remember what happened to them the last time, so in a way making such mistakes can be a good life lesson.
1096  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: People Are Not Nerdy Enough on: July 17, 2023, 02:54:06 PM
Yes, I am complaining that people are not nerdy enough. It's been 14 years since Satoshi published his white paper and the vast majority of people still don't understand what Bitcoin is and how to use it. Sure there are many people buying Bitcoin on crypto exchanges and speculating on it.

However, the average guy on the street that I speak to, and even many people on crypto forums still don't understand Bitcoin's potential as a virtual commodity, or it's potential to create an alternative to Fiat economies. Maybe the problem is deeper than just a lack of understanding about the technology? Maybe it's a lack of understanding about economics as a whole? How many people are economists?

I understand that my frustration might be due to the fact that I am coming from a very privileged position. What are your thoughts on this?

I think all people on earth are nerdy.

Because what does it mean to be nerdy? Does it mean that you are good in math? Good with science? Computers? No. It just means that you are very focused on a particular thing that you really like and you have become better at it than most people. By that definition we cannot expect everyone to be good at the same thing that you are good in, neither can we expect everyone to be just as excited for something that you are excited in.

A welder who loves his job and is amazing at it and continues to study the deeper knowledge of welding will become nerdy about welding. But that does not mean he should also be interested in cryptocurrency, or economics at all.

Our job as cryptocurrency nerds is to get people interested and motivated.
1097  Economy / Gambling / Re: Whats happening with Betnomi? on: July 17, 2023, 01:36:04 PM
This really worries me the most. Betnomi gave me quite the run-around trying to verify my account on multiple fronts. So they have essentially every type of personal identification of mine, banking information, etc. So if they were compromised then my personal identity and many others may also be.
We don't know what happened. I don't think it was hacked. It seems either betnomi sold their database or they have created another website. All are based on assumption. Nothing confirmed yet.

Well, this is serious... Who knows how many people left their documents on Betnomi?

Nothing is confirmed, and I don't see anyone complaining about money left there (I checked around)... My balance was $2. This is a very strange situation, I am not sure what to think anymore. Definitely, Betnomi is offline for too long and all this smells fishy, but again where are some big complaints, and scam accusations? With my $2 there and without KYC I dodge a bullet, and I played on Betnomi just because we had poker games there...

Good thing that I haven't played on this platform as far as I can remember. But if they have been hacked as speculated, then losing their money and then the customers data, then it's a double whammy for us.

Hopefully, they can come back and clear the space for us. I mean they have been slowly getting into the community and establishing themselves. So the sudden offline is really very sad to see and at the same time there are have speculations as to what really happen to them.

If that is true and they have indeed been hacked then not only is their precious money gone but the KYC details will now be in danger of being used for identity theft. Anyone who did KYC on their platform should probably alert the authorities that their government documents might be used by a third party without approval. That way, at least they can save themselves with a legitimate claim and plausible deniability, should someone take out a loan in their name or commit some kind of crime in a different country in their name...

This is exactly the reason why KYC is such a double edged sword.

Also, if they were planning on scamming their customers, then I think they would have made it possible to deposit and bet but not withdraw.

Best thing to do is stay away for now and wait for further details. Maybe its not a hack, but something else.
1098  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How was your first experience with gambling? on: July 14, 2023, 03:20:06 AM
Gambling is a game that has an addictive effect. Most people who have joined gambling sites will find it difficult to get out of the gambling circle. It doesn't matter how much you lose at gambling, as long as we still have money, we will continue to gamble

Can you share your first experience playing gambling? and who told you about gambling sites?

I myself know gambling sites from my own friends. I idly and try to deposit. Starting from playing with a little money, after a while I didn't know how much money I had spent playing gambling

My first experience with gambling was with slots. It was an after school thing with friends at a physical casino and I think I was around 18 or 19. It was something completely new for me and while I started off with mere Euro cents, soon I lost over 50 Euros or so before I realized that I needed to stop. Don't get me wrong, I had fun but as with discovering anything new there is a tendency to overdo it and not even notice. But slots alone do get boring after a while. Especially the European slots which were my first ones. They are basically all the same template but with a different style. So there is only so much you can get from them in terms of entertainment. I moved on to card games not soon after and honestly, I have not gotten bored of poker even after all these years. I think what keeps the game exciting are the different people that you play with.

as long as it is free then why not join ? but trust me most signal groups has only the same intention and that is to pump their own supported projects and degrade those they hated.
free signals are mostly created for nothing but to favor those creator and not us investors.
most of them are liars and of course scammers.
just do your own research mate and study everything before putting your money inside.

Free cheese is only found in a mousetrap. At some point there will be a catch and if you drop your guard because you have gotten used to the group and perhaps even built up some form of trust, you will be tricked into giving someone your money. Or worse, you will simply lose all your money on some quacks ideas on trading speculation. Avoid signal groups like the plague and you will be a happier person for it.

Furthermore, anything that has to do with Telegram should be considered a scam automatically. The same goes for groups which are on discord or other unprofessional, discrete locations/platforms. Scammers use such platforms because its easy to stay anonymous and/or deny posting histories.

Don't self diagnose, it's bad.

When you're not an addict, you will search about signs of gambling addict and there are few signs that same like your habit, you will diagnose if you're an addict and vice versa. It's better for someone visit a doctor and ask them if you're an addict or not, so you will get a proper answer since they more know about your problem.

while I do agree with you on the fact that it is not a good idea to self diagnose, since one is always biased for oneself, I think that visiting a doctor is unnecessary. Addictions are easy to spot, especially from the perspective of family and/or friends. I do not think that one necessarily has to visit a doctor to determine whether one has an addiction or not. Especially a gambling addiction. Not only would you be wasting a doctors precious time but you will probably be laughed out of his office.

The safe bet is: if you start asking yourself if you have a gambling problem, the answer should be an automatic yes, based purely on the act of self-questioning. At that point, just walk away from the gambling world for a few weeks at the very least. Some would even need a longer time to get rid of the gambling addiction.

People who easily get addicted should not gamble at all.
