1141  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Should security be employed in local bet shop? on: December 26, 2023, 11:13:22 PM
I do see security in those shops in one form or another. Maybe you don’t notice them because they’re dressed in plain clothes or watching over things on a surveillance camera in a back room, but I’d be surprised if they weren’t there. I agree that these types of places could do more to keep customers safe in their parking lots though. Almost no casino cares what happens once you walk out the door.
1142  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: In The Span Of six months what will make you trust a new casino on: December 26, 2023, 11:11:18 PM
It may sound a little strange but my answer wasn’t listed in the options. I actually think a good celebrity endorsement goes a long way. That’s because with all the laws surrounding casinos and endorsements I would assume that the celebrity’s management team did their homework to make sure the casino was safe and legitimate for users.

Well for me we are gonna see a start of a drip right now, but for a good thing, the Mxgox is starting to make payments to the creditors, so good for them and also for us because we start to expell one X from the equation (the weight of mxgox fund) .  The fact they are paying in FIAT implies we are gonna see some sells to make that happen, so be ready for that.

INFO

It remains to be seen what the mtgox folks are going to do with their coins.  Right now I think I'll probably cash mine out and buy a Tesla Cybertruck with the funds.  I imagine many others will probably feel the same way.  I always considered those coins lost, so having them back will probably result in me cashing out immediately in order to have additional cash.  It wouldn't surprise me if a large majority of those coins are sold for similar reasons.  Whether you stayed in Bitcoin and went on to stack, or you got out of Bitcoin, I'd imagine you'll be happy to get back dollars and not coins.  Everyone's circumstance is of course different, but that's my thinking on it.
1144  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] 1oz .999 Silver "Bitcoin" Binary Rounds on: December 26, 2023, 09:04:18 PM
With all the issues surrounding Bitcoin's mempool being extremely crowded and high fees I've had a few people inquire about me accepting other currencies for these coins.  While I'm not going to accept reversible payment methods like PayPal, I am usually happy to accept any non-reversible payment method like USDT or even other cryptocurrencies like MATIC, Solana, ETH, etc.  I don't typically look to accumulate cryptocurrencies outside of Bitcoin, but am always happy to work with people who want to make a purchase but don't like the idea of spending such a huge amount on blockchain fees.
1145  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2023-2024 betting on: December 26, 2023, 08:59:15 PM
I think the way to play today might be a parlay against all the horrible teams in the league.  You have the Nets playing the 2-27 Pistons.  The Magic playing against the 5-23 Wizards.  The Jazz playing against the 4-24 Spurs.  The Kings playing against the 7-21 Trail Blazers.  Finally the Clippers playing against the 7-20 Hornets.  Will all the horrible teams in the NBA lose today?  Probably not.  It's hard to pass up on such a big parlay with so many absolutely terrible teams involved though.  I'll have to check and see if I have anything sitting in my casino account to throw at this today.  Maybe more for fun then trying to win.  Smiley
1146  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When (if Tenable) is The Right Time to Share Your Bitcoin Private Keys? on: December 26, 2023, 08:48:24 PM
I think the best way to handle this is to leave a long set of clues that must be followed on different continents so that your heirs spend a great deal of time and effort trying to get ahold of your lost treasure.  It could be a like scavenger hunt you see in the movies.  Really find out who wants it the most.  LOL

More seriously...  Things like this are why some people have been waiting for an ETF to invest in Bitcoin.  People already have succession plans for their traditional portfolios and may not be comfortable taking control of plans to pass on their coins.  It's just not something that most people want to worry about...

I have ADHD

Even the guy who "invented" ADD and ADHD has come out and said that it is complete nonsense to sell drugs to kids.  Don't let the pharmaceutical industry brainwash you into thinking there's something wrong with you or you aren't intelligent because they 'diagnosed' you with a made up disease to try and trick your parents into drugging you up like a zombie for the rest of your life.  Know that you are most likely fine and your intelligence isn't something you can just change unfortunately.  Sure, you can learn new things and become more knowledgeable, but you aren't going to significantly increase your IQ.
1148  Other / Meta / Re: Mixers to be banned on: December 26, 2023, 08:40:39 PM
Why are you forced to use Bitcoin with ridiculous levels of privacy?
Because, according to you, unless every transaction is private by the protocol, nobody should try to enhance their privacy as that would "leave the unknowing recipient take the fall for their privacy". Which, needless to say, is a ridiculous idea.

If you want it to provide privacy without jumping through hoops or facilitating illegal behavior like money laundering, that needs to be done at the protocol level. I don’t make the laws.
Because... facilitating money laundering on the protocol is completely legal. Lol.

I noticed you didn’t answer my question about what you are doing to vendors and how you think they feel about it.
I already told you. Merchants cannot expect from their clients to do blockchain analysis, and nor should they as it is evidently inaccurate. Instead, merchants should expect that the bitcoin can come from any kind of activity, just as with cash.

If you believe that there should be no privacy in the world unless there is a universal consensus and enforcement, then you are the one indulging in fantasy.

You still didn't answer my question...  You think vendors appreciate you sending them obfuscated funds from a known money laundering operation?

Using a private protocol doesn't amount to money laundering just because it's private.  Isn't that your whole argument for mixers in the first place?  This is called talking in circles.

Accepting funds that have been illegally obtained is illegal.  You talking about blockchain analysis and expectations doesn't change this.  Purposely laundering the funds and having them sent to vendors is quite different from someone not knowing where their funds came from and spending them.  In a court of law this would be the difference between unintentional ignorance and intentionally obfuscating their source, which is illegal.

I do believe that privacy can come from using a private protocol.  That removes the "intentionally obfuscating their source" by users, which is what makes using mixers money laundering.  This isn't fantasy, it's reality.  Thinking you can intentionally obfuscate your funds using a 3rd party legally to protect your "privacy" is fantasy.

I don't even understand why you're against making a private protocol instead of relying 3rd parties.  Just so you can get paid to spam here?  Relying on 3rd parties is against everything Bitcoin represents in my opinion.  The exact opposite of self sovereignty.
1149  Economy / Speculation / Re: Retiring early with BTC on: December 26, 2023, 08:14:01 PM
I think Bitcoin has a place in any diversified portfolio, but I wouldn't look to it for retirement income.  I would actually advise people to build their Bitcoin position alongside their traditional investments and maybe cash out their BTC to move to income producing stocks that pay dividends as they retire.  This will give them income going forward without having to worry about the volatility in the Bitcoin market.  Exposure to only BTC as a way to retire could backfire on you bigtime if the price is down when you need emergency funds.  That's why I say Bitcoin is great to own and stack, but you've got to have some money coming in.
1150  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Which one did you use to gamble with more on: December 26, 2023, 06:55:09 PM
I mostly stake the bet before the match starts, but typically only because I’m not sitting around watching games at my computer where I’m able to place bets. On the rare occasion that it does happen I do enjoy live betting and taking advantage of swings in the game to get different odds in. On more than one occasion I’ve gotten bets in to where I’d win no matter the outcome, which is cool.
1151  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏆⚽🏀🏈Make thousands with sign up bonuses in the US on: December 26, 2023, 06:53:35 PM
Making money off online casino signup bonuses seems tempting, but it's rarely easy money.  These promotions come with fine print - like wagering requirements that force you to gamble away buckets of money before you can withdraw a cent. Say a casino offers you $100 free.  Nice! But you might need to place $2,000 in bets before cashing out.  That's a 20x rollover.  Good luck! You'll probably lose way before hitting that target.  Most bonus hunters end up losing money in the long run.

I’d have to agree with this. OP makes it sound like you just register for a few sites and withdraw the bonuses. Sites wouldn’t offer these sorts of bonuses if it wasn’t profitable for them to do so and most people don’t sign up and verify their identity just to do the minimum and withdraw. I think people would be better to focus on the gaming experience and not the bonuses.
1152  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Solana and centralisation - High TPS on: December 26, 2023, 06:49:58 PM
I don’t know anyone who runs a Solana node and think it’s primarily large companies who were bribed into doing so. Even then, they’re constantly having to pause operations and restart their blockchain. It just isn’t a serious coin for people to use as a store of value. Maybe someday. I think Solana is primarily benefiting from Bitcoin’s clogged mempool and new investors wanting to buy the next big thing without realizing it’s shortcomings.
1153  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why Trump is Americas best option on: December 26, 2023, 06:46:09 PM
I’m just excited about his promise to get transgender activists out of the classroom and mass deport all the invaders who Biden has been letting into our country these last few years. I couldn’t care less about his tweets or who he has sex with while he’s married. I just want someone to fix our country before we turn into the mess that is Europe.
1154  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 26, 2023, 06:44:24 PM
Feels like the end of year fireworks are over and the price is starting to drift lower. I suspect this will likely remain until we get news on the ETF in a couple weeks. I’m still curious if we’ll see a sell the news situation or not. Part of me thinks we have to see some profit taking, but another part of me thinks the market is ready to rip on any news.
1155  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: December 26, 2023, 06:42:56 PM
Lakers really looked weak, I mean at times they got close enough and all, but from the start they were weak, it started out like 20-3 or something, and then there was a moment in 40's where it was like 46-45 or something which means it got closer but then once again it got further away with time.

I have to say it is not really all that confusing because Lakers did not build a good team at all. Just because you have Lebron and AD doesn't mean that you can get any random 10 more people and hope for a title, you need to build a decent team. They won the title a few years ago, and look how many players are left from that team, aside from the big two, not that many players are left from that team which shows the main problem for them. They really needed to build a team that would help their good players but they decided not to go with that. I still think that they could go to playoffs, I mean it is not that far away from them, but it is not going to be easy at all.

The Lakers' results have actually gotten worse lately, but I wouldn't call them a weak team. I think they are still competitive, and let me remind you that they reached the Western Conference Finals last season. I wouldn't rule out the possibility that the Lakers can repeat this deep run in the next playoffs, although it will definitely be a tough task for them.

I think it’s a motivation issue for the Lakers. You don’t just go undefeated in the in-season tournament and then forget how to win a game. They’ve got some other things going on.

Luka proved again he’s Devon Booker’s nightmare. Dropping 50 on Christmas in a win over the Suns is embarrassing. Booker better get this rivalry figured out or it’s going to start eating away at his legacy.
1156  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: December 26, 2023, 02:03:43 AM
I was a bit surprised to see the Knicks beat the Bucks, especially with Giannis and Dame having good games. Was also a little surprised to see LeBron have a bad game on Christmas, but he almost managed a triple double in the loss so it wasn’t horrible.

Why is Andrew Wiggins coming off the bench for the Warriors now? He’s arguably their second best player.
1157  Other / Politics & Society / Re: [POLL] Do you eat tacos on Taco Tuesday? on: December 25, 2023, 07:46:25 PM
^ I looked up the origin of Taco Tuesday and here’s what Wikipedia says…

Quote
The first known use of the term "Taco Tuesday" was in 1973 as an advertisement in the Rapid City Journal for a local business.[8][9] Businesses advertising tacos on Tuesdays have been around since at least 1933.

Many also believe it started at another restaurant in 1969 as a way to bring in business on the slowest day of the week.
1158  Other / Meta / Re: Mixers to be banned on: December 25, 2023, 06:54:48 PM
What do you think the merchants that receive funds from you marked to be from a mixer and possibly even from criminal activity think?
I think that we either treat each coin equally or this whole concept falls apart. Every coin is potentially originating from criminal activity. Merchants cannot expect from their customers to hire a (provably inaccurate) blockchain analysis firm to tell them if their coins are "clean".

If all transactions are private, then we're all accepting the same consequences and fighting for privacy.
So? Does that mean that until all transactions are private on a protocol level, everyone's forced to use bitcoin with ridiculous levels of privacy? Lol. As I said, I'll never understand your perspective.

Why are you forced to use Bitcoin with ridiculous levels of privacy? Nobody forces me to do anything… Not every transaction has to be private and there are other coins that do provide privacy without you having to launder money. If you want financial privacy right now without jumping through hoops, Bitcoin is not the right coin for you. If you want it to provide privacy without jumping through hoops or facilitating illegal behavior like money laundering, that needs to be done at the protocol level. I don’t make the laws. Your perspective is that of fantasy.

I noticed you didn’t answer my question about what you are doing to vendors and how you think they feel about it.
