1181  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Solana just reached $80!!! on: December 22, 2023, 01:13:46 AM
I am not FOMOIng but just accepted the fact that I've missed buying this on its low. It reached $90 today and who knows if it will be $100 tomorrow or by the next day.

Although I do not deny that it is also good to hold the solana in the long term for investors who believe in it, So, when that happened to SOL, it was obviously because of the evenness of their project, so that and the upcoming halving or bull run may be just a few of the possible reasons.
It's a good hold but many have missed it like me. When a network or chain is being chosen by other projects to build themselves, they are increasing in demand so as SOL.

I just can’t get on board with Solana. The network goes down too often and is so centralized for my liking. However, you can’t deny that the price isn’t on an absolute tear. It seems to be the biggest benefactor of the Bitcoin mempool issues at the moment. While I’m not on this train, I am happy for those that are.
1182  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: December 22, 2023, 01:11:40 AM
I keep seeing all these social media posts saying that McGregor is going to fight in UFC 300. Is this official yet? I thought the news wasn’t released yet but I’m seeing a lot of Conor McGregor at UFC 300 posts… I hope we do get to see him fight sooner than later. He isn’t exactly getting any younger and seems to be switching his focus to politics.
1183  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: December 22, 2023, 12:43:47 AM
Joel Embiid really went off yesterday. Scoring 51 points against a team with the best record in the NBA and likely defensive player of the year. I’m actually impressed. I was thinking it would go the other way and Embiid would struggle and his team would lose. That was one of those games people get reminded about when the MVP voting starts.

Yeah, I think he has something to proved this year, he put all the big men of Wolves into foul trouble. And then his shooting touch and grab 12 rebounds. Maxey too has a great performance. We should not forget as well on the defense they put against Anthony Edwards.

OKC vs Clippers, this is the game to watch tonight, OKC huge favorite, but Clippers is holding that they can continue with their winning streak.
And then we have the Wolves vs the Lakers. Lebron needed this win to get back into the groove, they are 1-4 after winning the In-Season Tournament.

He is playing like an MVP and I’m glad to see it. I think if I were a voter this year though I would still have to give it to Luka Doncic. He’s playing at another level as well. It would be great to see Embiid win a title to get the last missing piece for his career. It’s going to be tough getting over Giannis and Dame in the playoffs though.
1184  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 22, 2023, 12:41:40 AM
Bitcoin is having a nice run but with its mempool issues currently you can really see the effect on higher throughput blockchains. Solana and ADA seem to be crushing it as a result. I hope Bitcoin can get this figured out. It is way too early in the cycle to be having these issues. Makes you wonder who these people are making transactions currently.
1185  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do not gamble with Loan Money~otherwise you will be in danger like me on: December 21, 2023, 03:19:36 PM
You would think that not taking out a loan to gamble would be common sense but people always tend to think they’re going to be the exception to the rule. At least OP didn’t borrow crypto to gamble with or that pain could have been even worse. I imagine the lending section here is full of people who do this same activity…
1186  Economy / Speculation / Re: High transaction fees affects those who DCA on: December 21, 2023, 03:17:09 PM
Another day and the mempool is even more full. Currently it costs almost double what it did yesterday to get a transaction onto the blockchain. I had assumed this backlog would have been getting worked through by now but it is still getting worse. People are having to spend a great deal to get anything through the network right now.

1188  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you remember when Twitch banned gambling? Now they allow nudity! on: December 20, 2023, 10:05:18 PM
They got quite a bit of pushback from that decision and it was ridiculous, but I can understand why they did it.  Amazon has been paying for Twitch to lose money forever now.  Even the streamers wouldn't make any money if it weren't for Amazon's free subscription monthly with their customers prime accounts.  They now seem to be grasping at straws looking for profitability, which they may never find.  Microsoft may have been smart to ditch Mixer and let Amazon (and now Stake with their Kick investment) carry the industry by dumping money at unprofitable services until the industry can become more established.
1189  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is Michael Jordan a gambling addict ? on: December 20, 2023, 10:01:45 PM
He takes care of his family, far from broke and gambling brings him entertainment.. so my question, would MJ be considered an addict?  I argue he's not.  He just loves to do it, but any negative effects may be literally zero ..

Wiki Definition "Addiction is a neuropsychological disorder characterized by a persistent and intense urge to use a drug or engage in a behaviour that produces natural reward, despite substantial harm and other negative consequences. Repetitive drug use often alters brain function in ways that perpetuate craving, and weakens (but does not completely negate) self-control.[1] This phenomenon – drugs reshaping brain function – has led to an understanding of addiction as a brain disorder with a complex variety of psychosocial as well as neurobiological (and thus involuntary)[a] factors that are implicated in addiction's development.[2][3][4] Classic signs of addiction include compulsive engagement in rewarding stimuli, preoccupation with substances or behavior, and continued use despite negative consequences. Habits and patterns associated with addiction are typically characterized by immediate gratification (short-term reward),[5][6] coupled with delayed deleterious effects (long-term costs).[3][7]"

I think he is an obvious gambling addict and after watching his documentary I feel even more secure in feeling that way.  Michael Jordan has a gambling problem definitely and even though he is tremendously successful and could gamble away a million dollars a day for the rest of his life and be fine, that doesn't change that he is an addict.  Given the definition you are referencing above, I would say he most definitely had his life/career negatively effected by gambling, but then you'd have to believe the conspiracy that he was suspended for the 1994 and 1995 seasons for betting on his team and possibly even the reason his father was murdered...
1190  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Bitsler witheld my money for 7 days, with no explanation what so ever on: December 20, 2023, 09:58:11 PM
While this may be a legitimate concern and something I would definitely take note of and consider if I were using Bitsler, I can also see how this would be understandable this time of year.  It's quite likely that large withdrawals go through some sort of manual process, and as we enter the holiday season it's also reasonable to consider that their staff is probably extremely limited in what they are able to do if you assume that many of them are on vacation.  There could even be bosses that have to give final approval on such things so it is highly possible the person you talked to had their hands tied with no other answer to give you then you have to wait.
1191  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin is Undervalued vs Gold. Here is my thesis. on: December 20, 2023, 09:55:38 PM
imo you've computed the minimum value we can attribute to bitcoin.

but i'd probably give bitcoin more then a 0% for "track record", especially now that bitcoin is about to get a stamp of approval  Cool

also... it might be more fair to estimate the Total amount of gold available on earth and use that to calculate gold's market cap and compare that to bitcoin's 21million max supply.

Just to clarify, Bitcoin already has 0% for 'track record'. Gold beats Bitcoin in that category so that means Gold gets 100 points vs Bitcoin 0 points in that dimension.

The main variable is that I consider Bitcoin to be 35% as good as gold (all the points stuff just leads up to that 35%, so if you think maybe Bitcoin is 50% as good as gold overall you can just work with that % instead).

This is a pretty major point.  The 0 track record for Bitcoin is a big deal as gold has survived the test of time whereas Bitcoin struggles even today with just hanging on to it's most basic function of transferring BTC from one wallet to another (check the fees and mempool).  I think it's important to note that and remember that even as an ETF, gold has a major head start on Bitcoin.  So while you may come to a value using a system like this, it's also good to remember that it took gold a LONG TIME to realize this value and it will take Bitcoin a long time to realize it's full value as well.  This won't happen quickly.
1192  Other / Politics & Society / Re: [POLL] Do you eat tacos on Taco Tuesday? on: December 20, 2023, 06:32:55 PM
Everybody getting their tacos today? I’m proud to report that I had some delicious tacos today and for less than $4 for 2 of them it simply is the best deal I know of right now. The idea that this post can pay for me to eat tacos is wild. Anyway, I’m happy to report that after some disappointing tacos last week that were clearly made by someone different, my regular taco man is back at it and outdid himself today.

You know, you post makes me think about some ideas I have had for long time about the access of food there in the United States. I have got some friends there who have told me it is pretty much impossible to starve there, because food is very cheap and there are even things like food banks, food stamps and charities which provide the minimum to the needy. Your post about the price and the availability of those tasty tacos you continue to share is an example of it , in my opinion.
Me being from South America, I have got the impression people from your country take from granted the blessing of always having affordable food near them, one must truly be thankful about it.

Have you heard about Tequeños? it is a typical from here which have lately become very popular around the world, even in USA, you may like it if you like cheese.

I have never heard of Tequeños but did take a minute to look them up. Seems like almost a cross between a cheese taquito and a croissant. I’m sure I would love them but might have to take a closer look at the menu next time I’m at a Mexican restaurant.

While there are some great deals in the US, there are also really bad deals. A few days ago I had to stop at a fast food restaurant (Culver’s) and spent $25 on a fast food cheeseburger and fries. I would have preferred my $1.79 tacos…
1193  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Can You Really Make $33,000 A Year Mining Bitcoin? on: December 20, 2023, 06:26:23 PM
I will first start from the topic. Yes it is possible for one to make such amount of money in the year if the person is good miner. There is money in mining but what people are not doing it because of the criteria that involve. The basic things one need to mine is constant light, the location and finally the mining machine. And for you to have to equipment before mining you need enough money. And not that people don't want to invest in mining but the expenses is one the things that making people not to invest in it.

I don’t agree with you. I don’t think a person’s mining skills have much to do with making $33,000/year mining Bitcoin. It would have more to do with their investment size and power costs. I think it’s far more likely for an individual to make $33,000 a year holding Bitcoin than mining it, which is something I’ve seen far more frequently.
1194  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 20, 2023, 06:24:16 PM
...

For the first time I have seen TV ads for an upcoming (we hope anyway) Bitcoin ETF.  I saw three ads on two different channels just this morning (Bloomberg and Fox Business) from Bitwise. They seem very confident...

Previously the only ads I saw were for the Grayscale BTC trust.  <--- and their discount to BTC price is narrowing, meaning Wall Streeters likely think the SEC will approve.

I haven’t seen any ads for an ETF yet but if this is actually true that’s pretty huge news. While I can understand them wanting to get ahead of everyone else by advertising a little early, I would agree that this is a sign of confidence as finance companies aren’t really in the business of wasting money advertising non-existent products.
1195  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk mixer ban, Altcointalk is active in that scope. on: December 20, 2023, 06:22:28 PM
Secondly altcointalk is hosted outside the U.S jurisdiction, it's one of the safest forum out there. Something theymos should have done a long time ago.

This would not improve any legal safety for Bitcointalk unless theymos himself also moved outside U.S. jurisdiction. What is stopping law enforcement from forcing him to hand over database access and/or records from the "off-shore" servers, in the event they come for questioning or arrest?

thyemos' mistake was messing with his privacy and location; I had no idea he was going down a street in the U.S buying McDonald's. I used to think he was the closest thing to Satoshi in terms of privacy, but I was wrong.

If only the site was hosted on one of BRICS servers. Who knows.

You used to think theymos was the closest thing to satoshi in terms of privacy? That’s a wild statement to make. I don’t think theymos was ever anonymous was he? The first time I googled him I came across his real name in seconds. I don’t think he ever even made an attempt to try and hide or be anonymous. Maybe I’m wrong?
1196  Other / Meta / Re: Is really referral or affiliate are not allowed in Forum ? on: December 20, 2023, 06:19:47 PM
They are allowed in your signature.
Yes. There are even some campaigns that their signatures have referral links. This can be used to know if there are people from this site (Bitcointalk) that join (the site with the campaign) or use their service through the referral link.

I use one in my signature. I think it’s great that some signature campaigns allow their participants to do this as it brings them additional revenue for advertising for the brand. I can also understand why the forum doesn’t want people spamming their referral links everywhere and think the way it is done now is a nice win-win for everyone.
1197  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: December 20, 2023, 06:16:05 PM
Some really good matchups today. The Clippers and Mavericks are facing off with identical records. This should be a good game… You also have a couple of the best teams in the league facing off with the Timberwolves and the 76ers. Then another great matchup between the Kings and the Celtics. Almost like a playoff day with these matchups.

I like making money while taking care of her horses  Grin

We’ll hold your horses buddy. Bitcoin is rallying hard. Back to $44K and seemingly once again headed higher… A lot of people saying we’re 2-3 weeks away from seeing a spot ETF approval. I wouldn’t be surprised if the rally continued until then as the market buys the rumor in preparation to sell the news.
1199  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] S17 Pro - 0.01 BTC obo on: December 19, 2023, 10:53:50 PM
what specific model is this? How many Th/s?

Being totally honest I’m not 100% sure and would need to examine the unit to see if it says that information on it somewhere (which I could do if you’re really interested). I sent my S17Pro in for a repair and they sent me back this unit which I believe could be different. Anyway, it includes a printout showing it successfully mines at 56th/s.
1200  Other / Meta / Re: Mixers to be banned on: December 19, 2023, 10:49:53 PM
They made the right decision and we need such righteous behavior.

My short term trading account balance has increased by another 15%, is there anyone out there celebrating this with me? Grin

Are you saying that you think Bitcoin’s recent runup in price is due to bitcointalk banning the advertising of mixers on this forum? Maybe I’m misunderstanding, but that’s how it seems. Anyway, I don’t think this news is something that would move markets. More likely it will cause people to attack those in signature programs that remain with the hopes to replace them, and the wider markets won’t care at all.
