1301  Economy / Reputation / Re: Most famous person on Bitcointalk? on: December 06, 2023, 10:10:15 AM
Well, we don't know the real persons behind majority of the usernames here. There may be some of us here who are famous in real life. So it's hard to tell, but as far as those who are personally known are concerned, at least there's Charlie Lee, the creator of Litecoin. He's still a bit active. There might be more, but the rest of those who have got big names especially in crypto like Andreas Antonopoulos, Adam Back, Vitalik Buterin, and others are mostly inactive.

I would agree that Charlie Lee is likely the most famous person that can be reached on these forums. He has been featured on TV many times making him the most likely person to be recognized by the average person. There have been more influential and well known people who have posted here, but not many stuck around once the trolls and scammers moved in.

I didn’t expect the Paces and Pelicans to be this far in the tournament but here we are. Another good win for LeBron over KD as the Lakers advanced passed the Suns. LeBron seems to have KD’s number these days with the sudden win streak after not facing each other for years. KD upped his efficiency this matchup, but it still wasn’t enough to secure a win.

Jesus. Two pages of going on about GPUs and not one locomotive?

We're still a long way from CCMF.

Maybe after $60k.

Indeed we’re still in recovery mode

I think they'll first do a major bull trap (sell the ETF news), before eventually reversing course and plowing onward and upward.

I’m surprised a bull trap hasn’t occurred yet. Someone must be buying a ton of BTC right now. This is bigger than a Microstrategy buy. I would speculate a Saudi Fund or maybe a country like Argentina or even a company like Apple. I’m in full spectator mode seeing what happens next. I’ve got a Bitcoin ticker going in my house now.
1304  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2023-2024 betting on: December 06, 2023, 01:03:13 AM
Some good games on tonight as the in-season tournament rolls on. TNT is airing them so it will be a good night for basketball. I like the Bucks beating the Knicks in the first game, but the second game could go either way. I think the Suns have a better team but they’ve got some injuries and the Lakers are playing well. We all know how cheap LeBron is so I’m not sure betting against him with $500,000 at stake is a good idea.

I don't know though, but I'm leaning towards a +5.5 for the Knicks here.

One thing that got me into the Knicks is their defense rating, as they are in the 4th position. And they are also shooting very high percentage as well. While Bucks will rely on Giannis and Lillard and Middleton.

And it could be a tough match up for them here against the defense that the Knicks are going to put up here.

I was thinking of going Bucks and Lakers to win in a parlay. I think Giannis is just too dominant to bet against and LeBron’s cheapness should help the Lakers win tonight. Booker is also coming off injury and you know LeBron wants another accolade to add to his career, not to mention they’re in Los Angeles. So far the Knicks are staying with the Bucks as it’s a 2 point game after 1.

Nice one. No doubt this is how a lot of people feel who have been ignoring crypto since buying at $60K and selling at $20K… The time to fill your bags might be behind us, but a good DCA strategy will never do you wrong. The exciting part is that if this buying could somehow magically continue for the next 5 months, it could really ramp up once the halving takes place.
1306  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 05, 2023, 10:52:03 PM
down to 30k-35k

Or up to 50k-55k.

We're still correcting from last year's steep dip.

2024 has been one big correction.

I think a lot of people don’t realize this. My personal belief is that if FTX didn’t defraud everyone out of their Bitcoin and pump everyone’s shitcoins then the price of BTC likely would have gone up as high as $140,000 and would have bottomed around $60,000. So while we may be in a bull market now, we should have never gotten this low in the first place.
1307  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to view cryptocurrency prices secretly on phone? on: December 05, 2023, 08:56:07 PM
On my iPhone I use the “Bitcoin Ticker” app which may not really be secretive, but you can add a widget showing the price so you can quickly and easily check the price with a quick swipe on your phone. You can also add your entire crypto portfolio to make it easy to track the value. With the demise of Blockfolio, this has been the best app I’ve found.
1308  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: when did KawPow take off in earnings. on: December 05, 2023, 08:53:22 PM
It is pretty crazy. The price doesn’t seem to be that high so maybe some miners came off the network or something? I haven’t explored it much. I am surprised to see that even my old 1080ti rigs are once again profitable as a result. Those babies just keep on bringing profits year after year. Amazing really.

I can run a profit in my house at 14 cent power which is pretty good thing.

This time of year I pay weird usage fees on my grandfathered electricity plan that inflate my bill (I could save money monthly if I moved to a different plan), but I also get a $0.03/kWh rate which makes mining pretty profitable. If only it was winter year round… Once I get a Tesla I think that grandfathered plan will really start paying dividends. Now it’s really only useful in the winter when I need miner heat.
1309  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think voting for Bitcoin to become a legal tender was the plan? on: December 05, 2023, 08:49:13 PM
I think satoshi figured there was a chance it could become legal currency someday, but I think he was off about how fast it would begin happening. He even had lofty price expectations but if you asked him I’m sure he didn’t think we’d hit $50,000 per coin for many years yet, giving regular folks more time to stack before governments.
1310  Economy / Reputation / Re: For how much money heroes and legends are willing to advertise fraud and scam? on: December 05, 2023, 08:46:31 PM
"For how much money heroes and legends are willing to advertise fraud and scam?"

Interesting question if we consider the recent case of Sinbad.io. Next mixer will pop up and get advertised again by heroes and legends .

It was clear when the government started going after mixers that they were not only unsafe to use, but also were considered illegal. People here defended the illegal operations because they were getting a couple hundred bucks per week, claiming it is about privacy and not them getting easy money. I imagine once the ban is in place and these people find other sponsors suddenly they’ll have a change of heart and admit mixers were bad but they didn’t understand the entire problem.
1311  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: I could have won bigger. on: December 05, 2023, 08:43:20 PM
That’s a nice win for sure but they can always be bigger. You could always lose too so I wouldn’t go blaming people you give money to for you not getting rich, or in this case making a little extra money. Be glad you got the win and were able to pay your friend. Thats a win win. No need to go looking for negativity in the situation.

1313  Other / Meta / Re: Mixers to be banned on: December 05, 2023, 07:29:36 PM
Are we going to see a mixer that will require KYC verification before sending them your coins? A government run agency can bring such mixers. What do you say?
A mixer in which the government and 'their' blockchain analysis companies already have your data serves no useful purpose, people might say you can use it to hide from friends, family, business partners and other 'ordinary' people, but you don't even need to use a mixer to hide from such people. It is trivial to hide from people who do not have any blockchain knowledge, an exchange is even enough to do that. People use Tor, mixers, CoinJoin and privacy solutions so that their government and blockchain analysis companies can't deanonymize them, in other words, KYC defeats that purpose.

Yes, I think a legal mixer would not only serve no purpose for most people, but it would also demonstrate that nobody wants to use a legal mixer, which would then ironically make the mixer hilariously bad as it wouldn’t get enough use to serve it’s purpose as a proper mixer. It would also end the debate on if people are using them for legal purposes, as nobody would use it…
1314  Other / Meta / Re: TalkImg.com - Image hosting for BitcoinTalk on: December 05, 2023, 07:27:23 PM
It’s pretty crazy how many images I’m seeing that still don’t load due to the Imgur issue… I thought the forum had a plan in place to do something about it. Are we really expecting every user here to install 3rd party software to correct this issue themselves? Is there any plan for talkimg to work with the forum to move the images over or is it going to be an every man for themselves scenario?
1315  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] 1oz .999 FINE SILVER "LITECOIN" BINARY ROUNDS (2018) on: December 05, 2023, 07:24:52 PM
I am no longer offering the 20 gold plated rounds for $600 deal, but I am still offering a 15% discount on rolls of 20 and will toss in free shipping for the holidays if anybody was looking for some stocking stuffers. I also still have some Bitcoin rounds available if those are preferred. Available for immediate shipping to ensure they arrive in time for Christmas.
1316  Economy / Speculation / Re: So I guess we sell at $48626 ? on: December 05, 2023, 07:20:41 PM
I’m not sure those charts are all depicting the same thing. When comparing times like this, it’s best to use charts every 4 years as the halving is the dominant factor in Bitcoin’s value increases. I also think that 2021 was an anomaly due to the FTX fraud, so only one of those comparison charts makes any relative sense. I do feel like a correction is coming, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if the FTX fiasco depressed values so much that up is the only way to go from here.
1317  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 05, 2023, 07:16:12 PM
Something is going to happen next year that will force the Fed's hand to start lowering rates. (A war in Taiwan? Major terrorist attack? CRE and Banking sector meltdown? Who knows, but it'll just be a cover story)

When this starts to happen, the leftover 1 trillion $ from the Fed's RRO will begin moving out, looking for a better return elsewhere. It's already been draining fast since June, down from a high of 2 trillion $.

If the market begins to crash, Wall Street will take all that money and massively short the market, looking to scoop up more cheap shares.

Wall Street already knows all this is coming (insider knowledge), they are just front running it now.

I'm actually starting to think that a proxy war next year in the South China Sea makes the most sense.

Look how they've run up the biggest bubble in nVidia stock.

And now the word is that insider investors are dumping their nVidia shares.

Gee, I wonder why?  Tongue  Wink

https://www.fool.com/investing/2023/09/15/nvidia-ceo-jensen-huang-dumped-shares-ai/

https://finbold.com/insiders-continue-dumping-nvidia-shares-crash-incoming/

https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/markets/cathie-woods-ark-invest-is-selling-nvidia-stock-and-buying-these-2-artificial-intelligence-ai-growth-stocks/ar-AA1l2heL

Nvidia maybe knows, that they will not have always the best hardware for ai training. There are new competitors:

https://www.wired.com/story/openai-buy-ai-chips-startup-sam-altman/

Quote
Rain, founded in 2017, has claimed that its brain-inspired NPUs will yield potentially 100 times more computing power and, for training, 10,000 times greater energy efficiency than GPUs, the graphics chips that are the workhorses for AI developers such as OpenAI and primarily sourced from Nvidia.

Like cryptomining with GPUs, everything has an end.

Well, to be fair I am still mining crypto with GPUs as are a lot of others. You have a point though. The market is valuing Nvidia like they’re the only company that will ever be able to make AI hardware. Clearly it’s overvalued so insiders are just taking profits. I actually think AMD makes a far more attractive investment option than Nvidia currently.

Another day, another AYH.

Getting richer while sleeping and all...

Life's good.

$43K in one hour confirmed  Kiss

I concur.

It is crazy that this rally seems to be accelerating. Every time I look at the price it seems like it’s gone up another thousand dollars. I feel bad telling my friends not to dump their 401K’s into Bitcoin last week. The market is on fire. I might have to get a ticker going again in my living room. Between the crazy mining profitability and rising price, it’s a good time to be in crypto.
1319  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: December 05, 2023, 05:40:57 PM
I was a bit surprised to see the Pelicans beat the Kings last night. Brandon Ingram had himself a game though putting up 30 points. Zion was less impressive only getting 10 points but he did it on an efficient 5-8 from the field. Sabonis had a great night for the Kings, but Fox wasn’t shooting the ball well and I think his 10-25 gf performance was the difference.

Well Dec 4 vs Dec 1 on my 42k pick

here is hoping that my 48k pick hits closer then dec 31

so far so good

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5472517.0

I thought we’d end the year at $40K. If we get over $43K I might have to start becoming even more bullish.
