In case of modifications, I would suggest a qualified electrician to inspect the existing wiring first.
|
|
|
If he hires an electrician to visit him, then he might as well have one two-pole phase-to-phase 208V group installed and use the Bitmain APW3 PSU.
Yeah, but these days most know an electrician that could do the work for them Just a recommendation for the sake of safety on knowing the wiring between the high-draw device and the source is up to par. Yes. That is why it is in most cases to give the job for a professional electrician who knows what he is doing. I'm glad here in Finland laymen are not allowed to do electrical installations. You need here a qualified electrician to do the installations.

Make sure that you don't mix the two PSUs in same hash board. Keep the PSUs separated from each other. Turn on the PSU powering the miner controller first!
I don't know where you got the idea to buy two PSUs. With Antminer S5 you would be good to go with one EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G2 power supply, for example.

Bitcoin block reward is actually 12.5BTC right now.
You must ask yourself that how in the world would you end up finding a Bitcoin block if you are mining FantomCoin? Also, if you want to find a Bitcoin block and have the whole block reward, that means solo mining. With small hash rate there is a very small chance to ever find a Bitcoin block in solo mining.
In the pool mining all the found blocks are shared with pool miners.

You are mining FantomCoin. It looks like you have found a FantomCoin block. If you are mining in a pool, that block reward is of course splitted between all miners as always in pool mining.
And it seems that the FantomCoin block reward 4.21 equals only about 0.10 USD. It is pretty much nothing unfortunately.

is bitfury still made a miner ?
Yes, like previously mentioned in this thread, they have the Blockbox solution for big scale customers. AC version is 7.5Ph/s and IC version is 15Ph/s. Briefly said, you need BIG money to buy a miner from Bitfury.

Bitcoin --> ASIC miners
Other cryptocurrencies --> PC with high-end GPU cards
Laptop is a no go, you only end up burning it in the end.

I guess so far only Sidehack (user here at the forum, check out his projects), LightningAsic ( lightningasic.com) and Hotmine ( en.hotmine.io) have been able to get hands on the chips.

Has anyone yet tried running this on Linux+WINE?
It doesn't work. I have Ubuntu 16.10 and I tried it now with wine ('wine msiexec /i AwesomeMiner.msi' command). The installation stops at: Awesome Miner Setup Wizard ended prematurely
Awesome Miner Setup Wizard ended prematurely because of an error. Your system has not been modified. To install this program at a later time, run Setup Wizard again. Click the Finish button to exit the Setup Wizard. Virtual machine and Windows in there is the way to go in Linux distros if you want to use Awesome Miner.

They just have not bothered to change that. Even my S9s and R4s say the same.
Does it affect the mining stability and hash rate? No. Why would the copyright text affect the mining?

Most likely, but as Bitmain has the most efficient hardware in the current generation and they are most likely in no hurry, I guess it is going to take time before we see smaller node Bitcoin ASIC chips.
Wild scenario would be that Bitfury, Canaan or BW.com for example would come first before Bitmain with a smaller node chip.

Most likely not. Bitcoin mining today is done with ASIC devices. Sorry, but this must go for top 5 craziest ideas for Bitcoin mining along with gaming console, laptop mining etc.

Thanks for that one, Cirtonick.
A bit OT, but I'm not hearing back from Jon yet (it's early there)...anyone know if I can run this 721 and the new 741 from the same controller that's been running the 721? It has the most recent .img on it.
Yeah, you can even run them in the same chain. Older Avalon generations can also be used with the same raspberry pi but they need to be in a own chain. So what I mean is that behind one usb adapter you can't mix A7s and A6s for example.

Bitmain APW3 PSUs have actually been quite reliable for me and I haven't heard much talking about them breaking up. Definitely a big improvement after using the Enermax PSU with the Antminer S2 and all the poor quality Apluspower PSUs used in the Antminer S4.
If the 741 really uses 1150W at the 12V side, that would make two miners 2300W. So if you got about 230V mains voltage and good cooling in your place, I would say it is possible to use the APW5. With 230V you will need at least 16A dedicated circuit for it. This is said by a guy who knows IEC standards.
For ANSI standards a.k.a. United States I'm not the guy to give perfect answer.

Yeah, if you really got money to invest and other setup for it too, then there is the BlockBox by Bitfury http://bitfury.com/products#container-datacenterThe BlockBox IC is the first mobile Bitcoin mining unit that has the scale of a full-size data center, allowing for easy access to the Bitcoin network. For the first time, Bitcoin mining can be readily purchased at petahash-scale.
