3221  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: February 04, 2017, 12:11:52 AM
thanks for the response. Not sure which fan I have but it's a fan from the first batch of S7. Do you happen to know if that qualifies?

That would be a 4300rpm fan and you can use it to replace the rear fan of the Antminer S9 which is a 4300rpm fan as well.

The front fan in the S9 is 6000rpm, so if that is broken then you would need to buy a new one.

All are testament to why you shouldn't mine if you don't understand watts/amps/wire gauge...   Roll Eyes
This is exactly what I'm thinking when people sometimes ask the most basic questions.

Hey all, does anyone know if you can use an S7 fan to replace a busted S9 fan? thanks in advance
Yes if you have a spare 4300 rpm fan, you can use that to replace the 4300rpm S9 fan (but not the 6000rpm one).
3224  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: February 03, 2017, 08:05:20 PM
Most likely not. Try asking Bitmain or Bitmain Warranty to buy one?

Just make sure you don't mix the two PSUs in the same circuit a.k.a. in the same hash board.

HP DPS-1200 is only able to do max. 900 W, when the voltage is 110 V.
See my specs link above.
3227  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A7 announced on: February 03, 2017, 01:37:37 AM
Actually HP DPS-1200 is able to do even little more than the rated power, so I would say it is safe to use it if your voltage is 200-240VAC and cooling works ok at your miner place.

3228  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer s9 - dead board advice... on: February 01, 2017, 12:55:27 PM
Yes you can run it with two boards. Get in contact with Bitmain to make a RMA case and remove the board and send it properly packed after they say ok.

Here are some instructions, useful to read https://enshop.bitmain.com/workOrderGuide.htm

Time for warranty repair or fee based repair (Bitmain Warranty in Denver, Colorado).
3230  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: February 01, 2017, 10:30:51 AM
I'm pretty pleased with the service of Bitmain Warranty in Denver, CO.  Smiley
Even though the board they repaired for me didn't work properly after all (it keeps dropping to zero hash rate and shows a row of x's),
they handled fixing the situation very well.
They will send me a working hash board in exchange after I have sent (I just actually came back from the post office) the faulty board back for them.

I can definitely recommend them for fixing your miner.

And thank you Phil and the others who have shared previous experience with them.
3231  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Antminer L3 - 250mh - 400watt Scrypt miner coming soon on: January 31, 2017, 10:01:02 PM
Something I just noticed today is the copyright at the bottom of the screen on my L3's.  The miner software is copyright 2013-2014.  So it would seem that Bitmain has been sitting on the scrypt mining software for a while.  Just thought I would pass that along as food for thought.   Grin
They just have not bothered to change that.
Even my S9s and R4s say the same.
3232  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: What Kind of Outlet is This? on: January 31, 2017, 06:07:47 PM
Sorry, I'm not so familiar with ANSI standard world (United States) and I haven't had a need to use PDUs so I don't have much info about those either.
3233  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: What Kind of Outlet is This? on: January 31, 2017, 05:55:58 PM
Actually if you are in US, the voltage between phases is 240 V.
The values 20A 250V you mentioned above and shown in the picture are rated values for the component.
Presuming that we only take account the resistive load it would then be 240 V * 20 A = 4800 W
And it is not advised to put a full load 24h, maybe something like 17-18A max. 24h/7/365.

Just a hint: Gekkoscience 2Pac stick miners are available now (two BM1384 chips per stick).

This is why I like BTC and escrow when buying here at bitcointalk.
Sorry to hear this.  Undecided
3236  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: January 29, 2017, 02:36:52 PM
I had a board repaired at the bitmainwarranty, but it still isn't working correctly.
It occassionally keeps dropping to zero hash rate and asic status shows a full row of x's.
Reboot fixes it again for a variable amount of time.

I've tried different communication port on the controller and the problematic board only moves to a different chain and the controller in functioning normally.

I'm keeping in touch with bitmainwarranty to find out a good solution, but as a back-up plan I was wondering if someone here would be familiar with a script for restarting the cgminer/bmminer in case of some of the boards dropping to a zero hash rate?

This is a 11.85Th/s 550M pre-autotune model.
Use Awesome miner  and create a rule for the miner to restart or reboot whenever its rate drops below your trip point.

Works well, Awesome for me, especially with my under-volted s7's. When one gets cranky and drops a card I have the rule set to start CGminer again and the card comes back up. So far with s9's that works as well which is great considering the s9's -- especially the auto-tune ones -- don't like reboots...
Thanks, I'll consider this. I was wondering though if it could be some how wrote directly to the cgminer conf for example. (via ssh)

edit:

I tried now to swap one board with my another S9 and see if I get any new results, lets see...
edit2:
yep, same results as before, so it is indeed still a faulty hash board and other components are ok.
3237  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A7 announced on: January 29, 2017, 01:36:23 PM
Can the new Avalon 741s run on the same controllers that I purchased last year to run Avalon 6's just with updated firmware?

Yes, as I already answered.
You can use the same raspberry pi.
Make sure you have the newest software.

Different AvalonMiner generations must be in a own chain, with own usb adapter, so for example:
- chain 1 = AvalonMiner 721 or 741
- chain 2 = AvalonMiner 6.0 or 6.01
- chain 3 = AvalonMiner 4.1

3239  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: help needed on: January 26, 2017, 02:49:02 PM
I'm wondering the same thing as Notfuzzywarm, since the manuals are pretty straight-forward and there is not that many pages.
Even finding the manual is not that hard, just type antminer s7 manual in Google.

And even though here at the forum there is a lot of chat about almost every basic thing in mining, these new help!!!! topics just keep coming over and over again.

DO NOT UNZIP THE ARCHIVE.
Upgrade it with the zipped file.
Please follow the Antminer R4 manual found at www.bitmain.com
