1181  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How to learn bitcoin software development without downloading whole Blockchain on: October 27, 2018, 02:52:49 PM
Enable pruning? You can set Bitcoin Core to only use X amount of GB/MB.

-prune= Reduce storage requirements by enabling pruning (deleting) of old blocks. This allows the pruneblockchain RPC to be called to delete specific blocks, and enables automatic pruning of old blocks if a target size in MiB is provided. This mode is incompatible with -txindex and -rescan. Warning: Reverting this setting requires re-downloading the entire blockchain. (default: 0 = disable pruning blocks, 1 = allow manual pruning via RPC, 550 = automatically prune block files to stay under the specified target size in MiB)

To enable pruning use the above command in your bitcoin.conf (If you don't have a bitcoin.conf yet, simply create one.)

Anything above 550 will work.

So if you put 1000 It'll use a maximum of  1GB. (If every block were to be 1 MB that is)

I've bought Antonopoulos' Mastering Bitcoin and there he states that you can install Bitcoin Core and configure it to reduce the size of the blockchain by discarding old blocks, but that it will still download the entire dataset before discarding data (page 38).
I don't think this is true. I'm pretty sure it'll discard data as you go.
1182  Other / New forum software / Re: Responsive forum? on: October 27, 2018, 02:03:36 PM
Will u fix the forum to be responsive for cellphone users?

Yes, Epochtalk is responsive. Try it yourself, visit https://beta.bitcointalk.org from your mobile device.
Wow, so this means that the new forum could be like some social media apps that will notify one if there will be some replies on the topics you were in for a discussion? This is really great. I can't wait for the implementation this new forum for cryptocurrency discussions.
I think this is indeed a feature in the new forum. Really though, something like that should've been implemented in the current forum a long time ago already. It's long overdue.

The new forum is running on AngularJS, which has just entered LTS, since Angular 2.0 is now the new "standard". This shows that the new forum software is already getting slighly out of date before it's even released...??  Undecided
1183  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: noob question about `bitcoin-cli getnewaddress` on: October 27, 2018, 11:08:43 AM
OP is using Bitcoin Core, as seen in headline of this topic.

You can generate an address however many times you like. Each time you run that command on newer versions of Bitcoin Core, you will simply get an address that was already generated in your wallet (HD wallet). You have couple of hundreds, I think, already generated and another batch is likely generated once these run out.

Is this actually still the case? Does bitcoin core still use the keypool to store X amounts of adresses? That seems.. unnecessary?

Why not just generate them when needed using the xprv? Is this done simply because it was easier to implement, or is there some kind of reasoning behind it?
1184  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Lost my "12 Word Phrase / Seed" for coinbase commerce - Need help on: October 26, 2018, 08:18:42 PM
>> My key is in bip32 (I got this information our of my wallet-file). Does that matter ? I used this website http://bip32.org/ to decode the xprv key from the wallet file to a shorter one.
Don't use such sites ever again when dealing with private keys that may or may not have actual balance.. http://bip32.org/ might be open source, but that doesn't mean that it is safe. It doesn't even have HTTPS.

What you can try is the following: (Emphasise on try , as i highly doubt that this will work)

Download this library: https://github.com/ethereumjs/ethereumjs-wallet

put the extended bip32 privkey in there and generate a couple of private keys + their corresponding adresses. Depending on the derivation method used by coinbase, you might find your balance. It's worth a try.

-snip-

Would that also be possible with just an xprv? I don't think OP has any "normal" private keys. (Forgive my ignorance here, just wondering.  Undecided)

Christ that's so sad it's almost funny. Looks like Alex Jones got into his head.

Other angle;

You can't make this shit up.
1186  Other / Meta / Re: sent the wrong bitcoin to the paid address of the forum, on: October 26, 2018, 04:23:48 PM
At the very least you’d need a signed message from the sending address I would think.

Why?

Every adress is unique for each user.
We are commonly asked how we know that you sent a payment. The address above was newly generated just for you, so when any BTC is sent to it, we will know to credit it to your account. It is all automatic.

It seems highly unlikely that someone else send bitcoin to (it) -> referring to his adress specified for his Copper Membership? I'm pretty sure theymos could check whether or not that adress is connected to his account.
The only way (As far as i know) that that would be possible if is someone else also had access to his account.

I sent it from a trading floor

Which means that he most likely doesn't have access to the keys belonging to the adress.
1187  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Your favourite Crypto Exchanges on: October 26, 2018, 01:53:32 PM
I have done trading in exchanges like binance, kucoin, mercatox, etc...

Can you post your favourite  crypto exchanges you are trading without any problem?

That seems rather useless. There's already dozens of threads about this topic, or about any notable exchange really.

Anyhow, if you want to trade BTC -> Altcoins, i don't see why you would use anything other than Binance for popular altcoins.

USD -> BTC i'd personally use Coinbase/Bitstamp, (although i'm not that big of a fan of them either) considering all the issues bitfinex and kraken have.
1188  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / What's going wrong here? Different privkeys from same XPRV. on: October 26, 2018, 12:12:13 PM
Okay.

I start with generating an bip32 xprv from https://iancoleman.io/bip39/

Code:
xprvA1spA8iHkXqJwZHPeiEFDUkzmqgnF4LRLzDrioV98peEs2ykDutTjunz1H1jdiaPjMWG8ae6PornnWoDAZfw15xxkxqk4tJoa5Tn4yZJ1x4

Code:
m/44'/0'/0'/0/0 	1Bc7RvUdCSHEZmyXkdwTe1JYEFLdd3ebvw 	024d27c803e9cb8092021bb74643e188233e0985be5b7130e6b0966dce6458d4f2 	KxXviT8QiwyeRT4KP2cQjjSMPSQKTEhsGvGdQtGoxK4sRQZTsbLj

Code:
KxXviT8QiwyeRT4KP2cQjjSMPSQKTEhsGvGdQtGoxK4sRQZTsbLj
From WIF compressed to HEX;
Code:
27355B317CD6FFE47062B03BF2E9E01D8E31B0ADBA76F442A05BBF5F1B57208E
(Gives the following ETH adress )
Code:
0xEeC8a7981F2C9Eb03e2E8Ff1a915fa3E00367D94

I use the xpriv key in ethereumjs-wallet - https://github.com/ethereumjs/ethereumjs-wallet

Code:
var hdkey = require('ethereumjs-wallet/hdkey');

var extPrivKey = 'xprvA1spA8iHkXqJwZHPeiEFDUkzmqgnF4LRLzDrioV98peEs2ykDutTjunz1H1jdiaPjMWG8ae6PornnWoDAZfw15xxkxqk4tJoa5Tn4yZJ1x4';

var hdwallet = hdkey.fromExtendedKey(extPrivKey);
var wallet = hdwallet.getWallet();
var address = wallet.getAddress();
var privatekey = wallet.getPrivateKey();
console.log(`Address: 0x${address.toString('hex')}`);
console.log(`PrivateKey: ${privatekey.toString('hex')}`);[/size]
Code used for generation of m/44'/0'/0'/0/0 (?) - (Is this correct? it should generate the same index=0 as above tool, right?)

Gives;
Code:
Address: 0x03b82ba80f68502ee1f73e53a42175a89e718b66
PrivateKey: e174a4f2bc96cf67342c1bab1bfffa283c7a98cd08c61d6e829cdf683c13a844

Why are they different? - Am i missing something in their respective derivation methods?

This might not be the right section. Please move if it's not the appropriate section.
1189  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: NEED HELP!!! 6000 is locked in a watch only account on electrum on: October 26, 2018, 10:39:35 AM
I thought that watch-only wallets are actually mirrors of your existing wallets that you already have the private keys off.  Huh
Is it not a way to keep track of your transactions without actually logging in to your actual wallet where you are keeping your bitcoins?
Someone fill me in please.

Yep. That's exactly what he did. He simply imported an adress, resulting in him only being able to see balance/transactions.

@OP if someone "sold" you that adress, you got scammed.

I made an account quickly and pressed imported wallet instead of standard wallet and I received 1 Bit. It never asked me to make a seed or password. And it says its watching only and I have no seed or key, but I have about 6 grand in this account. Is there a way where I can get the money to a standard wallet account or did I lose 6 grand because I pressed the wrong Wallet type.
It's not your money. You have no seed or key. (Just an adress?) Which everyone can have. So you didn't really "lose" anything, as it wasn't yours in the first place.

Unless ofcourse, as i stated above, you "bought" that adress from someone.
1190  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How to verify transactions? on: October 25, 2018, 06:43:50 PM
Anyone?
You can use a block explorer such as https://blockchair.com/ to see if those transactions actually happend.

But even then, you should be cautious.
He could've simply taken/snapped those transactions from a node (depending on his business model). ( A lot of HYIP sites do this. (I do hope that's not what you're trying to buy here!))

If you really want to make sure that the "company" made those transactions, ask them to sign a message from the adress that the output was made from.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=990345.0
(And then ofcourse verify it.) Although, if you gotta ask this, i'm pretty sure something is fishy.

What exactly are you trying to buy? An exchange? A gambling site? If so, you could check their traffic sources using https://www.alexa.com/siteinfo or SimilarWeb as well.
1191  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do not send bitcoins to extortionists on: October 25, 2018, 05:46:10 PM
I found this interesting site that I was not aware of called Bitcoin Abuse Database (https://www.bitcoinabuse.com) where people report scam attempts (similar to those sites that do it for phone numbers). Specifically, searching for the scammers BTC address listed in the OP, there are 87 reports created between today and yesterday alone. Seems like a good initiative that, if used extensively, should help quite a few from taking the plunge (not that it isn’t clear from the beginning though in this case).

That seems pretty humble, but rather useless? I'm pretty sure if that site becomes anywhere near mainstream scammers will simply use a fresh adress for each scam attempt, won't they?

1192  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Bitupper BTC Block Explorer | SegWit support (bech32) on: October 25, 2018, 04:47:50 PM
Check again. All has been fixed for the address you were searching.  https://bitupper.com/search?q=%20bc1qmqz93sjvdxdnnacplrgn0lzun05tzjumklnlnp

Yep. Seems to be working now. Still, there are some things which i don't really understand.

Why are these two transaction placed at the bottom? Is there anything that makes them stand out?

We have switched off the Browser integrity check function in Cloudflare. Please check again and let us know if the problem still persists.
Thank you.
Yep, it seems to be working now using a VPN. Site looks pretty clean.

However, what am i doing wrong here?

I'm 100% sure that that is the right adress..

Seems like no adress is working?

The last block you indexed is https://bitupper.com/en/explorer/bitcoin/blocks/1515413, but when going to this link it redirects to Bitcoin Block # 323809...?

Same goes for
https://bitupper.com/search?q=1G4nDQQ8C66u1jaPHDfSca3LW995A5GecG v
https://www.blockchain.com/btc/address/1G4nDQQ8C66u1jaPHDfSca3LW995A5GecG

Seems like there are still a lot of errors.
1194  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Lost my "12 Word Phrase / Seed" for coinbase commerce - Need help on: October 25, 2018, 01:52:24 PM
That would be easy...

in my case the field "seed" is greyed out Sad

I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to do.

Quote
At the start I just used "electrum" wallet to receive bitcoin. This wallet still exists and is usable (I have access to my BTC at coinbase commerce).
Did you download and use electrum externally, or is it implemented IN "Coinbase Commerce"? I'm rather confused since you first mention you use Electrum, and then say you still have all your bitcoin in "Coinbase Commerce". Huh

Or did you "import" that seed into electrum, and then forgot what the seed was exactly, is that it?

Quote
The weird thing is that "electrum" offers a method to read out my "seed / 12 word phrase" but for this wallet its "greyed out". Even in the wallet file the line called "seed: ......." isnt existing.
BUT the wallet is working. I could transfer my BTCs from it to another wallet and I still receive new payments there successfully. Its not "readonly".
How did you create this electrum wallet in the first place? Did you import the keys or the seed? Huh

Quote
If coinbase delivers the same mnemonic seed (12 word phrase) for alle currencys (ETH, BTC, BTC-Cash, LTC) could there be a chance, that even the private (WIF-Key) could be the same and could be used for other currencys as well ?
Yes. LTC & BTC-Cash are both "forks" of Bitcoin. (Well LTC isn't really, a fork i think, but it's basically a copy of BTC too.), and thus they work the exact same way as BTC.

Ethereum also uses SECP256K1. Which means that you can use a "BTC" generated private key to generate an ethereum adress as well.
See https://ethereum.stackexchange.com/questions/6520/can-i-use-the-same-private-key-for-ethereum-and-bitcoin

But if that key will actually have any balance.. I'm not so sure. That seems pretty unlikely.

EDIT:

I just tried the following; I generated a extended private key using https://iancoleman.io/bip39/.
Code:
xprvA14zZuN9cNGz4p7csu5mgkiwHAZf55NHeAFwihowKfHvkv5GHhjxejpLRgiLqH4us3sEXy7D3h6TMHtQ6Mc5nxWttQD4r98susQzdQsVg9K

I then imported the xprv key into https://www.mobilefish.com/download/ethereum/hd_wallet.html (DO NOT DO THIS WITH YOUR ACTUAL KEYS, ALWAYS CHECK THE SOFTWARE YOU'RE USING!)
Which gives the following *first* public key;
Code:
Public key: 249536cfb9a2629e98c65f6f240e53e0cc1e986a8606a75f0081512895443aea273176ef5e40702d87447f89cb87e1cd959ca7e30682ffdc67d6b8b95805cc39

Which if you "decode" the first private key in https://iancoleman.io/bip39/
Code:
Kxepdb6GhDUSxrGeASofQYY4mahVSgE9YcfW3CjBiutHu1L6HTeU
Using https://iancoleman.io/bitcoin-key-compression/

Gives;
Code:
04249536cfb9a2629e98c65f6f240e53e0cc1e986a8606a75f0081512895443aea273176ef5e40702d87447f89cb87e1cd959ca7e30682ffdc67d6b8b95805cc39

Is the same? So yeah, if you have a XPRV key, you should be able to generate your ethereum adress from that.

My IP is banned.. Seems like you have cloudflare configured to block every VPN/Proxy?

You might want to reconsider that? That's a lot of potential traffic being lost for no reason really.

1196  Other / Meta / Re: Can we establish a division for posters according to their quality? on: October 25, 2018, 10:44:55 AM
The idea isn't good at all.

If you need to create a special badge to point out "good" posters, something is going very wrong.

I have an own concept for those who are not shitposters and not exceptional posters, so they fall into not bad, OK, and good poster categories, but it is just a rough idea.
What the hell happend to this forum being moderately libertarian? Why do you have to categorize everyone? This is exactly the type of stuff that's so disgusting about present-day politics.

Merit in itself is already pretty silly -- (You'd think that everyone posting here would do so in a moderately constructive way, right?), but adding "badges" to ascertain good and "Bad" posters seems extremely childish to me, and it makes me wonder why/if this (is) still (is) a crypto/bitcoin related forum.

What's next? Someone's going to grade my last 100 posts?
1197  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: What is colored coin in layman terms? on: October 25, 2018, 09:22:18 AM

Recently I come across the concept of colored coin.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=347398.0

It says some extra metadata is put in bitcoin blockchain to make it colored. That extra metadata always associated so that it will always be identified.

1. How this extra metadata is introduced?
2. Is it really a useful concept?

There have been some other threads about this; Might be worth reading.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=214316.0

And:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=106373.0
Quote
By the original design bitcoins are fungible, acting as a neutral medium of exchange. However, by carefully tracking the origin of a given bitcoin, it is possible to “color” a set of coins to distinguish it from the rest. These coins can then have special properties supported by either an issuing agent or a Schelling point, and have value independent of the face value of the underlying bitcoins. Such colored bitcoins can be used for alternative currencies, commodity certificates, smart property, and other financial instruments such as stocks and bonds.
https://github.com/bitcoinx/colored-coin-tools/wiki/colored_coins_intro

Would something like this still work? How exactly do i broadcast this? Using the testnet? Do i need a "color-aware" wallet? -- https://github.com/Colored-Coins/cc-transaction-builder
Do those wallets even exist still?

The entire implementation looks rather depreciated?

2. Is it really a useful concept?
It seems like it could be very useful, if implemented correctly, as explained above, but i haven't seen any projects apart from USDT (or XCPaccording to [1]) worth noting that use(d) colored coins. Perhaps because there are better and easier alternatives available. (such as ERC20?)

But to be honest i cannt actually understend the reason of this need. Could anybody answere me ? Roll Eyes will be very glad to make it more clear

I think he worded it quite badly (but the answers above should already give you an answer) and is actually referring to an API to make/facilitate transactions, for his business or w/e reason.
(As opposed to making an entire new altcoin for whatever purpose..)

I don't think Bitmain has any official resellers.

So unless you want to pay a premium for a product that might never arrive, or arrive used/broken, it might be better to wait for their next batch.

(Or even better, buy from their competitors.)

I have some questions:

- Who is the owner of the exchange?
- Where the exchange is located: (country, street, city)
-  Do you have license?

Why this: " Whois Privacy Corp. "; " Domain Admin "

Registrant Name: Domain Admin
Registrant Organization: Whois Privacy Corp.
Registrant Street: Ocean Centre, Montagu Foreshore, East Bay Street
Registrant City: Nassau
Registrant State/Province: New Providence
Registrant Postal Code:

KYC is required only for deposit and withdraw operations with fiat.

You remain anonymous, but customers can not be anonymous.

You can find legal info via the link: https://polyx.net/static/docs/EN_Privacy_policy_V02.pdf

That wasn't even close to an answer for his question. I bet that that entire doc is copy pasted from someone else, and you simply pasted your exchange's name in it.
The only thing that referred to an adress was this;

Code:
OÜ: Harju maakond, Tallinn, Lasnamäe linnaosa, Punane tn 56, 13619
