1541  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Economic Limits of Bitcoin on: June 29, 2018, 06:33:53 PM
I was trying to follow the math as well, but didn’t get it. Maybe due to my limited understanding of making a very easy bitcoin calculation so difficult in formulas  Smiley
I tried to reverse the idea, and think about attack vectors and the validation of the system (nodes validations and miner validations, where a single wrong tx makes also end up in an invalid block, destroying potential revenues). There is no view on this “from the bottom”, instead it postulates a model, and derives “limits of blockchain”. Without links to reality. So I believe it is a speculative paper to prove at a “scientific” level, that bitcoin cannot scale. And this smells like fiat banks or big blockers behind the paper...

I *think* the author is trying to say that bitcoin cannot grow due to the fact that if it will, the incentive to do a 51% attack would become too big.

To counter this his argument is that the transaction value of each block must be atleast X amount of $, ( to make it unprofitable to do such an attack, (Right?)), which means that relative small transactions will become impossible, ( due to the high fees and limited blocks) and thus bitcoin would never "work" on a larger scale/be adopted due to the fact that there are much better/cheaper options out there.

I've skimmed through the text, so i might be completely wrong here though.

I'm not too sure if his math checks out either. We've seen bitcoin work reasonably well at a marketcap of >200 billion, so i'm not quite sure how accurate all his statements are.

1542  Other / Meta / Re: A volunteer available. on: June 29, 2018, 03:05:37 PM
Does the forum need any volunteer to do any mundane tasks? I can commit at least 2 hrs a day even everyday. One reason is I would like to get some experience on running a big forum like this one.
+1 on this, i think i can volunteer too.

As much as i want to report all those spammers, it would also be a good opportunity to experience being an assosciate. Not only i would learn more about crypto, but also how a forum works (probably codes and such).
I doubt anyone here of the admin team ( if that even exists, i'm pretty sure it's just theymos at this point) is just going to give you a position. You'll really need to earn it.

Since it seems you're too lazy to report people, but still want to "be" an "associate" you could maybe assist the current dev team that's developing the new version of the forum?

See https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=167.0

https://github.com/epochtalk/epochtalk

With the current state of it, i'm fairly certain you'd be rewarded in some way or another  by theymos if your contribution is significant/completes it.
1543  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Will you guys check out my Bitcoin news site and let me know what you think? on: June 29, 2018, 01:35:10 PM
Would you guys check out my site and give me some honest feedback? i.e., whether or not you'd use it, user experience, articles that are shared, sources I'm using, any pointers you have that might improve it, etc.

The site is a news aggregator for Bitcoin, cryptocurrency, and blockchain. I realized in my time involved with Bitcoin that there wasn't a single source where I could find all the top stories/articles of the day in the space. I have to jump around to so many site and it's never concisely in one place. So I decided to throw this together and update as much as I can throughout the day between my day job. Let me know what you think. Thanks!

http://macscoinreport.com/

It looks very drudge-reportesq-like, i guess. I'm not really a huge fan of it since everything is really cluttered, and the font is  ( in my opinion, really shitty.) It reminds me of some of the earlier days of the internet.

I doubt i would use it very much, but then again, i feel like this is mostly due to personal preferences, and it's not really a good indicator whether or not the site in general is bad.

You've listed some decent articles, so there's that. The site also looks *better* on mobile due to the relative sleek design, which is a good thing, i think.

1544  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Earn merit by telling us about the dangers in using 3rd party wallets. on: June 23, 2018, 02:08:43 PM
Your private key is stored online and you lose your money if the exchange/wallet is compromised. If you can't access your private key then the coins that you store in a 3rd party wallet is not your money. Worst case, they'll gonna declare bankruptcy and your funds will be gone in seconds.

Didn't knew Electrum stored my private key online  Undecided. (They don't, obviously.)

Also, isn't every bitcoin wallet a third-party wallet? (With the exemption of Bitcoin core maybe..)

I doubt many of us here have compiled/compile/code their own wallets.
1545  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I’ve misplaced my Eth on: June 22, 2018, 07:40:30 PM

The problem is, I don’t know where I sent them. I do have a memory of doing the exchange. I also updated Blockfolio to get rid of my btg and bcc and add the eth.
With "Them" you are referring to the "bitcoin" half that you sold ( on an exchange, as you recall)?

If so, do you have the adress you send the bitcoins to? If you send them from your trezor, it should be noted somewhere there in your outgoing transactions. ( I assume you send them to an exchange to "exchange"/sell them there for ETH?)
1546  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How much the real monetery value you earn from attending crypto campaign? on: June 22, 2018, 05:46:48 PM
As a beginner it will create inspiration among us if we can know the value we can get by participating crypto campaign. And we also easily can attract other people on crypto by the info. So everyone please be truth with your answer. Thank you.

You can look this up quite easily yourself, as it's going to be quite different, since everyone is in different campaigns/does different bounties.

For signatures, take a look at the current campaigns here, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=615953.0

Simply calculate the max amount you can earn per week by using something like http://preev.com/

Also, just saying, if the only reason for you to join this forum is monetary, you're probably not going to get far.
1547  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Question about Airdrop on: June 22, 2018, 01:28:40 PM
Can you join multiple Airdrops or it's like bounty campaign that you need to finish a certain deadline to join another one?

No, aslong as you have time to fullfill all the requests that the airdrop requires ( posting on social media), i believe you can do multiple ones at the same time.

This might be different with certain airdrops though, so maybe read/look into the airdrop you want to join to see what their requirements are.
(Do you have any example? I might be able to find it out for you?)
1548  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: An idea, a tool, does not know whether it has practical significance on: June 22, 2018, 01:02:08 PM
Hi Coin-Friends

Last month, nothing had been done. As a developer, of course, it was necessary to do something. In the currency circle, it had been a long time and felt that there were relatively few related applications, and most of them focused on information consultation, quotes, and wallets. Then I feel like I can't make an application.

Thinking about the current shortcomings, can you solve the "pain point" problem, and finally found that your currency is relatively large, and sometimes you have to trade coins on several exchanges. My method is to use Text text to copy and paste transaction records, and then Calculate the position and cost of each currency with a calculator, but if you have more times, you will feel particularly troublesome. See if you can seek software app help.

In the general exchange's app, there are currency accounts and legal currency accounts, but they are not used. They are too scattered. And then to find a currency bull mytoken has added transaction records, but it is particularly funny to only support the currency transaction, which is a bit pit, after all, trade transactions between the usual currency more and more frequently. So it was decided to come up with an app to manage their own transaction records, and then count the positions of each currency.

Now that the app's basic functionality has been made, it also iterates several versions and goes to Google Play. The current basic functions include:

  • Add legal currency and currency transaction records to generate transaction record list
  • Count out the number of positions, purchase capital, and total value of each currency
  • Calculate the capital of the coin circle and calculate the profit and loss

These functions are basically what I usually need. Now it's a bit of a question. Does this app have any practical use? Does everybody have my needs like this, or can I solve the problem of common money players?

We welcome the suggestion of currency friends, because people around them don’t have much money to play. If they can help test the bug, they are extremely grateful. Roll Eyes

Ps:Binance zoomed in. Why did not grow up? Forget it. Embarrassed.

I can't really make up what it is you're missing here/what you want to achieve with your app.. You want to make something that calculates... what? Or do you want to make an exchange where everyone can add their currency/(token) for free, ( decentralized exchange??).

Perhaps you should clarify it a bit more..  Huh
1549  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Buy/Sell Crypto on DAM on: June 15, 2018, 05:22:55 PM
I didn't buy the favicon, I saw it on another site and nabbed it.  That is a nice site for crypto icons tho.  Also, the favicon on bitcointalk is there and not even modified Wink

Yeah, the About Us is pretty lame.  I think I will just remove it.

This is exactly why it's sketchy.

A site constructed with low effort  will raise alot of questions, e.g what else you are neglecting, ( user security etc.), or you might even be pulling a scam and going dark once a certain amount of users deposited money, since, correct me if i'm wrong, you're running a centralized exchange?

How can we/I trust you in the first place?
1550  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Buy/Sell Crypto on DAM on: June 15, 2018, 01:33:35 PM
List your crypto to sell for the amount you want in US Dollars on DAM! It's very easy to sign up and get your listing(s) online.

Once your listing is online then you can just sit back and wait for someone to purchase it. If you don't want to sell anymore then delete it.

https://digitalassetmarket.me

If the market grows then more features will be added to make the listing and selling process even more seamless and automated.

If you have any questions then post away. I will try to answer them the best I can. Constructive posts are always welcome 😉

Hmm. This site looks extremely sketchy, and it doesn't look like anyone has used it yet, or atleast, i can't find any signs that it has been used yet.

Also the concept doesn't really make sense when there aren't alot of users. These orderbooks will just be empty with huge gaps? I also see XLM for 0.25$ when the current price is .23xx, that's a hefty fee, isn't it.

1551  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Who can offer me a service that gathers all the important information? on: June 14, 2018, 12:24:48 PM
I have a lot of coin/token, I think more than 30 in my portfolio, which I keep in principle for the long term (2021).

I have a portfolio management problem right now.
  • I am always afraid to miss information about a swap / HF
  • For some tokens there is too much information out there and I don't have time to follow everything.

Is there a service that gathers all the important information (swap, HF, exchange listing) and where can I subscribe only to the Token that interest me?

If not, I think it would be a great business idea to launch such a service (against subscription of course)

My goal: more time for my familly  Grin

The closest thing that i can think of that does this sort of thing is https://coinmarketcal.com/

Simply go to "Alerts" -> Create new alert -> Add all the tokens/coins you want to be noticed of, and then you'll receive an email or something similar when an event gets added.

I'd say that it is definitely not 100% accurate, but it's a start.
1552  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where are all the best and reliable ICOs listed? on: June 13, 2018, 02:26:43 PM
I am a newbie and wonder if there are any reliable ICO listing websites that list the more reliable and the best ICOs out there?  I thought ICObench is a good place to start with, but some say that it's BS...

Icoalert, https://www.icoalert.com/? Simply google ICO calendar/or similar and you will find some good sites.

Not sure how reliable they are but they could be a good place to index the current ICO's, and to then continue researching/inspecting the ones you like.

I myself also would never just trust 1 site. They could easily be bought off/manipulated into giving a false review, even the biggest sites out there.
1553  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Coin disappear in QT on: June 09, 2018, 06:31:34 PM
Hello guys,

I'm doing a testing on my altcoin network server.

User 1 sent an amount of coins to User 2

User2 used "getnewaddress -addresstype legacy" to receive the coins.

User2 successfully received the coins, with 100 over conformation, however suddenly it the coins disappear from User2 qt's wallet.

Any idea what is going on? how do i retrieve the coins?

Is it similar problem which this person faced? https://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/17621/help-tried-sending-bitcoins-to-myself-and-they-disappeared

The problem that the person in the SE question had was that he didn't exactly understood how so-called "change" adresses work.

You here ( or User2) have/has only received coins, and not send them, so no, this has nothing to do with change adresses, but is probably related to your software being buggy/working incorrectly.
1554  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: HELP WITH A BTC TRANSACTION! on: June 09, 2018, 11:52:48 AM
Yesterday I made a payment to a website with your specific address. However, at the beginning of the transaction this address appeared:

1QYBTf2tDgyzc6GA8w4ycef7HjWoPgk6j

Searching in google I have seen that it is the address of a user of this forum, who coincidentally, only logged in once and does not accept private messages.

So, I feel bad thinking, but I do not know if it is a scammer who has created a malware or what. I do not have any previous transactions with that person and seeing in Blockchain receives enough bitcoins,

Does that address sound to someone? Has it happened to someone else?

What exactly do you mean? When you tried to make the transaction, when you copied the adress you were supposed to send the bitcoin to, this adress appeared? Do i understand you correctly?

If so, you've problem fell victim to a clipboard virus that replaces the bitcoin adress you originally copied by one of theirs, effectively stealing your funds if you don't look twice at the "receiving" adress before actually sending..
https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/evrial-trojan-switches-bitcoin-addresses-copied-to-windows-clipboard/

The adress you linked is also mentioned in this thread, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3334079.20

I just looked through the other thread, and users there are also suggesting that the OP fell victim to a/this "Copy-Paste" virus. See for yourself. I'm afraid this has happend here aswell.

You should really run some anti-virus scans, and i personally even would transfer out all the remaining funds, just to be safe.
1555  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best Cryptocurrency Exchange Site to buy new ICO(Initial Coin Offering) on: June 08, 2018, 04:27:45 PM
Mates  Cool good day,can anyone help me mentioning which is the best cryptocurrency exchange site to buy newly released ICO(Initial Coin Offering) so that I can buy them ASAP,It is matter of sorrow to miss pre-sale ico of promising one,so I wanna buy them even when they are in exchange site  Cool

I would buy directly it from the ICO if you're that interested in it, instead of waiting for it to be listed on an exchange, and potentially costing you a lot of extra $. I don't really get your question..

If the ICO is already sold out, look up the coin/token on CMC or on their project site, and you should be able to find out on which exchanges they are listed rather easily.
1556  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: QT Wallet multiple addresses on: June 07, 2018, 04:45:54 PM
The recommended procedure is to use a different receiving address each time you receive funds. You have a couple of scenarios where people could find out:

1. If you send bitcoins from one of your addresses to another on a regular basis, one could come to the conclusion that you control both addresses.
2. If you receive funds in different addresses (0.5 BTC in X address, 0.5 BTC in Y, 0.5 in Z) and then send 1.5 BTC to another address, the blockchain will show that the funds came from these three addresses and so people will know that you control the three of them.

However, If you just create an address like you said and you're not really doing anything, then no there is no way to know unless they have your wallet.dat file.
That's the answer I was looking for, thank you! If I had merit I'd have given it to you  Grin Thanks again!

Or if you use the same "change" adress for multiple adresses.

Say you make a transaction using adress X worth 1 BTC, whereas adress X holds 10 BTC. 9 will go to "change" adress Y.

Let's say that adress Z also holds 10 BTC, and you spent 1 BTC of it, where, again, 9 will go to change adress Y, more or less connecting both of the adresses.

I doubt this is common practice in most wallets nowadays anymore, but you should always make sure you use different change adresses correctly if you want some extra privacy.

1557  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [TESTED!] KYC on exchanges on: June 07, 2018, 03:48:56 PM
One single case does not represent the population.

While you may have gotten verified on Poloniex in 15 minutes, this does not mean that others were verified this quickly as well. If you wanted to do an actual test, you would need a larger sample size that accurately reflects the entire population.

It does say something though when comparing it to Bittrex (one could argue that this is currently their "biggest" competitor), where one has to wait for days.

I didn't know Poloniex verifies accounts so quickly nowadays. I used to read complaints from people who had to wait for weeks in order to get their accounts to Level 2 status/out of legacy.
This does seem like an improvement tbh.
1558  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: R.I.P. Poloniex (new face-image requirements) on: June 07, 2018, 01:46:21 PM
All of the centralized exchange will getting a stricter regulation soon. I believe it is the time for decentralized exchanges to rise. Decentralized exchanges are fitted with cryptocurrencies nature whereas anonymity and privacy are valuable.

I think this highly depends on where the business is registered. Afaik only US exchanges are affected. Binance still allows for >2 BTC a day w/o verification, and it seems like you'll soon also be able to trade with fiat on their platform.

See https://cointelegraph.com/news/exclusive-world-s-top-crypto-exchange-binance-sets-up-bank-account-in-malta, a pretty interesting read.
1559  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: R.I.P. Poloniex (new face-image requirements) on: June 02, 2018, 10:09:52 AM
I cant see how all the complainants have not seen this coming. Poloniex was acquired by Circle. KYC/AML was coming and every unverified account had months to prepare their accounts for verification.

For the users who have their coins trapped in Poloniex. What are you doing? If you dont control the private keys then you are holding nothing but IOUs.

Why don't you start by reading the thread before commenting this garbage?

Poloniex explicitely promised to NOT block withdrawals for unverified accounts, even after the forced verification process would have started.

I trusted them, since they're an extremely big company, and i don't see why they would  lie about such a thing, as it makes them look extremely untrustworthy.

Quote

I don't see how this argument makes theft of possibly hundreds of millions of dollars okay.

Ironic coming from a guy who uses Binance for all his coins.. :/
1560  Economy / Digital goods / Re: WTB exchange site that I can buy bitcoin with paypal on: June 01, 2018, 05:30:09 PM
Looking for something so I can buy bitcoin with paypal on a daily basis in larger amount. Can anyone help me out?

Are you willing to verify your identity or not? If so, you can use almost any regulated exchange i think ( coinbase, bitstamp et al).

If not, you'll need to do P2P transactions with something like Localbitcoins ( although i think you also need to verify your identity on their platform nowadays), or something like paxful.

Do note that you'll be paying huge premiums due to the great risks that the seller is taking, ( risk of chargebacks etc.)
